    Had to play with it a few days but I can’t believe what this thing is capable of! The bias fx/amp software is already amazing, I’ve used it on my daw for years. All the cloud presets you cherish can go through it and yes, in spite of it’s inputs it sounds identical depending what you plug into. I was so close to spending hurtful amounts to have a transportable digital rig with quality tone but not only did it come in clutch, it kinda kicked doors down. Run your ios through a good frfr with this and you could get away with murder almost anywhere

    Aww, missed the bus on a USB-C though. Micro USB in my experience aren't very durable even with care over time.
    Great looking unit though! Fingers crossed on price.

      IMO the bigger oversight is that they could have included a battery and a belt clip, so you could use RIFF as a stand-alone headphone processing device that would compete with gear like the Fender Mustang Mini. Basically you would have an ultra-portable Spark without the amp and speaker.

    Tough crowd.... It is what it is gang. It works, and it works well. Many of the answers to the rather obscure questions are available online. The rest have been addressed by PG. I have a Spark, Spark mini, Bias FX2, the Riff, an iPhone, an iPad, a few amps and a monitor and a couple of Scarlett's (not cutting edge new stuff) and all seems to be just fine interchangeably. Sorry if y'all are having issues Experiment with it, grind it out and make music so you can be happy. Wishing you all the best of fun, and be well in these funky times! Now let the flaming responses begin...

      So more users who potentially want to buy this will. Not everyone has computers or devices for usb c or any other higher speed connection. A lot of people don’t like to upgrade things that works for them as much as products like apple expect you to. Meaning every year basically. It it sucks but it is what it is. Rather reach more costumers than lock those out who don’t have a newer system

    Hi. Just got my Riff. Looks great but I can’t plug it into my iPad because you’re providing me with an iOS connector that Apple stopped using in October 2018. Did your Chinese supplier give you a good deal on those connectors? Why on earth would you supply an IOS connector in 2022 that the manufacturer stopped using in 2018? Very poor.

    It’s 2022 and you guys can’t include a USBC cable and by the way direct monitoring is not low latency, all audio and her faces are technically low latency if you’re listening to the direct signal. Low latency is when you can run an amp sim and still have low latency… not that I would have purchased this anyways.

    Video mentions line out is “audio played back along with input signal” - that doesn’t mean dry input signal, right? I think by “audio played back” he means other tracks in a DAW for example, but want to confirm. Intending to record only Bias-treated guitar (while connected to iPad) line out to Tascam recorder.

    I just go this unit (Shame I had to order though Amazon to get it in my country but so be it). I already had Bias FX 2 elite and was using it with the Steinberg UR22 mk2........ I can't believe how much better my guitar is sounding through the RIFF/Bias fx2 combo. I am not a tech guy so I don't know why but the RIFF has made the Bias FX2 effects sound soooo much better with my guitar. It's night and day to my ears!
    Worth noting that I am sending the Riff back to the return of my amp so bypassing my amps preamp.

    Riff looks great. Nice mobile solution to bring my guitar sounds in my macbook (M1) to the rehearsal room and on stage without dismounting my 19 inch audio interface anymore. But now that Apple brought us the M1 chip more than 18 month ago and no new Mac is sold without one and iPad is moving in the same direction isn't it time to bring BiasFX native M1 support! A piece of hardware is as good as it's software! Please get focus on the software too instead of bringing out all kinds of hardware.

    • @journeytree
      @journeytree 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Use Guitar Rig. Sounds better and Guitar Rig as a plugin on M1 doesn't have catastrophic issues as Bias FX has. I bought Bias Amp and never used it just because of how terrible my experience is on my Mac. I pre-ordered the Riff so I can exclusively use it with other software.

    I’ve got bias fx 2 elite and a spark amp. I love those products and would love to stay with positive grid for buying a new interface. I’m currently using an old usb 1 mixer as an interface and it’s a bit cumbersome so my next purchase is a modern audio interface. I’m torn between the positive grid riff and the xsonic xtone pro. The latter has the advantage of being a midi controller, but if the former can offer any audio quality advantage over the xtone, I’ll go for it

    • @positivegrid
      @positivegrid  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      While RIFF does not offer an audio advantage over the Xtone Pro, it does allow BIAS FX 2 functions to be assigned to the control knob and it offers three tone modes which are super convenient.

    I'll do my review here, because apparently my review on PG website has been censored. Note that I'm using it on Windows, not Mac
    Pros:
    Very robust build and perfect Bias FX 2 integration. You connect and it works... sort of.
    Cons - everything else:
    The drivers are just terrible - on my rather powerful machine I could make it work (sometimes) only when I went down to 512 samples. One step down and the latency becomes an issue. As a comparison, I can record (via DIBox to LineIn) my guitar using SoundBlaster at 96kHz/128 samples with no issues at all. Another example, Fender Mustang Micro can easily record at better than Riff settings (44100Hz/256 samples)! There is also an issue with random buzz when powering it on, happens probably when CPU is a little bit more loaded so I don't think it's hardware issue, rather bad drivers on Windows.
    Riff doesn't have AUX input, which, combined with poor drivers (barely works with Asio4All or similar) makes it almost impossible (or very difficult) to run a backing track.
    Also Riff doesn't have "Turn on/off" switch, which leads to either burning the LCD (when you keep it powered all the time) or sooner or later damaging USB port when plugging/unplugging.
    The last but not the least, there are information on website that they provide a free copy of Studio One Prime. But don't be fooled - this version can't run 3rd party plugins, so you won't be able to run Bias FX 2 in it. Pity they don't mention about it anywhere.
    Keep also in mind that in Europe they send it from Holand, so check shipping costs if you want to buy it and send back, because it can take 1/3 Riff's price

      Yes and no. RIFF gives you access to BIAS FX 2, which gives you a more beefed-up version of the amps & effects modeling and customization that comes with Spark. I would check out some more videos on BIAS FX 2. If it looks appealing to you, and if you're interested in doing more computer-based recording, then RIFF and BIAS might be for you! Let us know if you have any other questions. Cheers.

      You can get the Bias FX 2 LE version for free. If you want to unlock more amps and effects you can upgrade anytime. If you have any kind of interface you can try it now. Bias FX 2 is my favorite guitar modeling app, but the RIFF will work with any modeling apps. I don’t like PG’s marketing at all. There are custom controls that allow you to scroll through presets, switch preset banks, scroll through a preset and turn effects and amps on or off and turn the metronome on and off and adjust tempo. He quickly glossed over these features that are supposed to make this interface unique , but they are just fluff. To switch the custom knob to a different feature, I have to scroll using iPad. I’m sure you have to use a mouse for the same thing on a computer. Not hands free for for custom knob. All this can be done without the RIFF. They kinda market this on their website as the only way to use all the features. For the price point, it is probably the best at $100,. I like the portability of the RIFF, but I would take a serious look at the Xsonic Xtone. At the most only $50 more with so many more features.

    You screwed up using Micro USB and not USB-C. Plus, you don't have a Micro to USB-C cable included. iPads and Macbooks only have USB-C. An USB-C to lightning cable can be found anywhere even Walmart. A Micro USB to lightning cable not so much. It's going to hurt your sales. Really bad design decision.

    Had mine less than an day and it's going back. Not worth it in my opinion even at the introductory price. Latency in FX2 is horrible, went through all the buffer settings, tried ASIO4All, Default settings, Windows Audio. I have other interfaces that I have no latency issue. The tuner in a joke and it never gets close to 0 cent either sharp or flat. Tells me there is an firmware update, click on to update takes me to a webpage and there is states there isn't an firmware update for the riff. There are other options out there if you want an interface and just purchase BIAS FX2. The only thing I like was the Music Page. Running it on a 5800x, 32Gb Ram, and on NVME Drive.
