You know you have range as an actor when you can star in a serious film like Dune, then play a joyous character like Willy Wonka afterwards, and go back to Dune again, without missing a beat. Timothee Chalamet is so impressive.
Timothée Chalamet is one best actors that has broken out this past decade. This movie was very sweet and whimsical, and Chalamet is big reason for that.
Has he broken out or landed roles in established properties like Wonka and Dune? If he can have a big hit movie that’s not part of a popular franchise then we can say he has. It’s like Tom Holland or Zendaya. There only big movies are established properties.
As a fan of the Gene Wilder version, I LOVE this one so much. Felt like a love letter towards the original. It's fun, happy, nostalgic and beautiful to look at.
Even tho genes wasn't anything Roald Dahl wanted. He went against everything Roald wanted and Roald hated Genes version so much so he didn't even want his name attached to it. Genes was awful compared to the book. Johnny Depps Charlie and the chocolate factory is exactly like that book and what Roald wanted with the original
@@rachelBrady-ni it’s funny that the number 1 for me will always be the book because it’s what I fell in love with first but strangely I was lukewarm towards Depp’s version. Probably imprinted on Wilder’s since I saw that one first. I really like this 2023 version though it makes me happy
The way they utilized “Pure Imagination” for that last scene with Noodle absolutely had me in tears. Overall, this film was visually beautiful, and also felt magical.
Timothée gives to his young Wonka so much sweetnes. I love his performance in this movie and the movie it-self is adorable. Shout out to the one and only Olivia Colman, always perfect!
I'm not gonna lie. I was really extremely worried about Wonka. But when I saw the very first image of Timothée Chalamet as Wonka... I knew it was in great hands. The movie needed to have heart, soul and a smile. And it did just that! As Gene Wilder's Wonka put it: “Don’t forget what happened to the man who suddenly got everything he wanted….He lived happily ever after.”
Exactly! This movie was awesomely fun, and it not only made me smile, but it left me with a warm, whimsical feeling in my heart that returns every time I hear the songs again - and I can't stop listening to them, like mega-earworms!
I grew up really poor in Brazil, and every time walking to school there was a chocolate factory, "Garoto Brand", and one day as a kid I found the portuguese translated book for Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. It had no cover, and in bad shape, but I remember reading it and every day when I walked past the factory I'd look at it, and smell the chocolate coming off of it and dream. I came to America way later, grew up, and one day when I went back to visit my home country I walked into the factory and asked them for a tour. It felt like going through the chocolate factory I dreamt of all, and the book fueled.
I fully expected to be disappointed by this one, but was most pleasantly surprised by how much I genuinely enjoyed it. Timothée I think was perfect for this version of Wonka
The director and Timothee were asked about doing a sequel that would bridge the gap between this young Wonka and the one in the OG movie - and they both thought it would be great, but they'd have to handle it delicately because it would have to be dark in some places. My headcannon is that Wonka loses Noodle in some traumatic way after Slugworth and co. return to steal his ideas, so that's when he closes down the factory, travels the world again, and brings back the oompa loompas with him.
I absolutely loved Timothée Chalamet as Wonka even though I grew up watching the Gene Wilder version. Its funny because before he was cast as the new Wonka, I was watching one of his other films called Little Women and thought he would make a great Wonka. I guess I was right. 😉
i finally watched this movie yesterday with my boyfriend and i absolutely loved it! i teared up a bit at certain parts. i don't understand why people hate it so much, like if it's not your cup of tea then that's fine but you don't have to be awful about it. and when people say "oh it's a musical, hate it!" i laugh because the original willy wonka and the chocolate factory with gene wilder & charlie and the chocolate factory with johnny depp both had musical in it and they both turned out amazing especially the one with gene wilder in it.
I loved this movie. I like it best as a backstory to Wilder's, but it works as a standalone as well! I teared up when I saw the final message was a Golden Ticket and hearing "Pure Imagination". Funny, fun and heartwarming, adored this film.
If you loved this, you'd love the Paddington films. They are two of the best movies of the last decade. Same director as Wonka. If you two haven't seen them, you must watch and react to them asap! They are both nearly perfect films. Part 2 is the rare sequel that is even better than the first.
My oldest son who is autistic has always been totally obsessed with Willy Wonka. He even once had a Willy Wonka themed Birthday, so he'd been watching all the trailers and sneak peaks a soon as they'd been released. When the movie finally came out, his school took everyone to see it in theaters. Apparently they didn't plan it out very well and they made his group leave before the movie was over and he was absolutely crushed. This was right before we left for Christmas break so the first thing I did was take him to see it just the 2 of us. When he finally got to see the part at the end about enjoying it with family, he was in tears and so then I was also. As mad as I was what the school had done, in the end, I was grateful to have been able to have that touching moment with him. Needless to say, we both love this movie.
This is definitely what I would expect from a young, excited, innocent Wonka versus an older and more jaded Wonka. It has the same whimsy as the original but it's very much the optimism of youth here.
My dad saw the og Willy Wonka back in the 70s when he was 9. He wanted to see this movie, and he is a notoriously hard man to please; but I’m happy to say he loved this movie.
The Chocolate Cartel line was what got me interested in the movie. I just rolled my eyes when I saw the trailer in theaters at first and dismissed it as just appealing to nostalgia. When I heard that I actually paid attention to the trailer and saw it was goi to be a fun goofy movie with heartfelt moments and now it’s my favorite Wonka movie
The Charlie version is closer to the book while Genes was really hated by the author. I’m not sure if it was this movie or not but I know the author said something about not wanting another movie made while he was alive
Here in Portland, Oregon, there was a specialized chocolate shop that made the most divine chocolates. It was called Van Dyn Chocolates, and it was a complete tragedy when it shut down after so many years. My mother used to go to them.
A throwback you may not have noticed or mentioned. The cop's outfit resembles Violet's from the original and she also "blew up". Violet! You're turning violet Violet!
It was great to see a reaction of this from you guys! I think I was skeptical as well when the film was announced, but felt better after seeing the official trailer, and hearing good things about the director. Finally got to see this recently for my bday, and I'm still loving it so much. I smiled a lot too, and definitely needed that. Along with the chuckles and tears lol Glad you had a great time with it :) Love the original movie as well.
You guys should watch Mr church it is a movie starting Eddie Murphy and Britt Robertson it's really good. It's heartfelt and based on a true story about friendship and chosen family.it's not a funny movie but is really good one of a personal favorite.
After seeing the remake with Johnny Depp, I was somewhat skeptical about this one. Just watched it last week and I loved it. I’m glad they didn’t copy the original movie but went in a new direction. Wholesome with a little darkness but a happy ending, the music was great, and everything about it was magically outrageous 😂 Great reaction ❤
You know what i find when it comes to Wonka adaptations? You have to go in each time like its the first. I originally loathed Depp's version because of how far it strayed away from Wilder's but years later i watched it again and realised how much work went into it. It may not come close to Wilder but DAMN did they put in the effort. Depp is hilariously unpredictable, the kids are great actors, the design is so Burton-packed and that one guy playing ALL of the Oompa Loompas - you just gotta separate the two cause if you see each one as a remake you'll just hate it and completely look past all the amazing work gone into them. Not that this film had that problem
Watched this movie with my 6yo son in the theater. Not sure if he enjoyed it, but I loved it! :D. Such a fun movie. Of course, there were plot elements kids can't understand, but visually it was so nice and engaging! He has been singing the "Imagination" song for many days now since he watched the movie. Thimothee is so talented!
I was in such a bad place mentally about becoming 21 and not knowing where to go from there, i was having physical ailments that forced me to change my diet radically, just things going wrong left right and centre. Finally my friend pushed me into seeing this one night after work and it was EXACTLY what i needed - for the first time in months i drove home completely calm and content with myself, not thinking about the things that suck in my life. Every time i listen to these songs i'm no longer scared about following my dreams because i realised its no bad thing doing what you love. It even inspired me to buy myself a cane lol i have yet to test it out walking thru the city streets, i haven't got the top hat yet :D thanks for reacting to this Nikki/Steven, love you! xxx
I think my favorite part of experiencing this film is seeing fellow grown people become little kids again with the innocent whimsy wonder in the eyes. Nikki started tearing up at every place I did as well while watching with my sons 😂 Going into this with 🎶 a little trepidation 🎶 I think made me appreciate it more. My oldest son used to be a fan of the Johnny Depp Wonka but after this film I showed him the original film and he has watched that about twenty times since and then this version again to pick up on all the nostalgia feels I had while watching. It was a surprisingly delight for me, though I understand those who have serious qualms with this rendition as well.
This movie is one of the most fun and wholesome things ever! (no wonder, the guy who did this did also the Paddington movies) What I also like is how, no matter if you grew up with the 70s or 00s version, this movie makes it very believable how a naive eccentric could turn into a bitter eccentric.
My sister invited me to go and watch this in the theatre/cinema with her and I am so happy she did I enjoyed it so much I’d have gone to see it again the next night!
It's always interesting when people say they prefer Gene Wilder's version even though it's nothing like the book but people don't really like Johnny Depp's version even though his is closer to the book.
I think my favourite part of the film was seeing Matt lucas and the original horrible histories crew in several roles for this film, the guys/girls deserve even more roles in future films.
I can't stop playing this soundtrack since i saw it. I took each kid to it so i've seen it 3x lol just curious why do you have to cut out the movie is it due to copy rights?
This is Directed by Paul King who made the first two Paddington films he's really is an an expert film maker I was like you when it was announced I love the original with the late Gene Wilder, but he pulled it off.
I always feel weird when someone calls Gene Wilder's Wonka "the original". 'Cause, the original is Roald Dahl's book, and Wilder's Wonka is nothing like that one. Depp's Wonka is much more like the original, but unfortunately, by the time *his* Wonka came out, everyone was expecting it to be like Wilder's Wonka and were disappointed when it wasn't. The makers of **this** movie apparently took that lesson, because now, Roald Dahl's Wonka has been replaced by Wilder's.
With Dahl's stuff, i find the film adaptations always outshine the books. Have you tried reading James and the Giant Peach?? Not as good as the movie :/
@@lillymsf5946 Matter of opinion. I like the book version of JatGP just fine. And I actually prefer the book version of "Matilda" to the film. There's nothing wrong with having a preference; but judging one version because it's not like the other version just isn't fair.
@@seanking1775 You say that like Roald Dahl's original book hasn't "stood the test of time". By the way, he *hated* Wilder's version. It was made as a blatant cash grab, full of cynical product placements that failed to become actual products because the people who made the movie were better at making movies than they were at making chocolate. The only reason that movie has stuck around so long is because people like Gene Wilder so much. But *some* people still wanted to make an *actual* movie about the *actual* book, and they did.
I loved this movie and I reacted the same as Nikki lol! A movie I recommend, if you guys don't mind anime, is a Netflix movie called Drifting Home. I'm not much into anime but I really like that movie!
Wonka is great and on par with theoriginal and great in its own way with call backs and manurisms of gene wilder just perfect omg i actually got the feels at the end
Nik and steve, You want to see more of rowan Atkinson watch his blackadder series you'll love it, with hugh Laurie, Steven fry, rik mayall, Tony robinson and many other great actors/comedians
I missed this train back in the 70s, and only saw the original in my late 20s or so. Didn't see the Depp version. I basically hate musicals but I did give The Greatest Showman a chance because I like my Duners Zendaya and Rebecca, and it was pretty good. So, I felt I couldn't leave the Lisan al Gaib out in the wind in terms of musicals recognition, and I gotta say I really liked this film and thought it was very charming. The songs were clever, the acting was great and I'd be up for a sequel. Makes me want to watch the two Paddington movies that preceded it.
i think being older has messed with my brain now. when i was younger i could just enjoy movies but now i see a movie like this and i just think about how much money was spent to get known actors to play fairly minor parts anyone could have played. kinda like Oppenheimer had such a stacked cast and most of the big names really didnt have a big role or do anything to elevate that role to a level some unknown actor could have done. Now I dont know if any of the actors in the original Wonka movie were famous outside of Gene. Its kinda like with animated kids movies and they get a stacked cast to do the voice acting... like whats that to try and get the parents to watch it with their kids vs just buying a ticket for their kid and leaving them there? kids arent going to see toy story because of tom hanks or tim allen for example
I like Gene Wilder's version, Johnny Depp's version, and this version. I just find it funny that a lot of people prefer Gene's movie version over Johnny's movie version even though Johnny's is closer to the book. Not exactly, but more so than the original.
@@NikkiStevenReact I'm sorry if my comment seemed like it was directed solely towards you. I just mean others in general. So many people don't like a lot of movies based on books because the movies tend to leave a lot out or change things. I just thought it funny that the Gene Wilder version is one of the few that is the exception, that's all.
Loved the reaction, as always ❤ I would love you guys to react to Society of the snow! It is one of the most impactful and beautiful movies I've ever watched!
i love this movie it was a love letter to the classic one... it was recieved well too.. unfortunately the force awakens although a bit clunky was a love letter to the originals that got memed on bc of south park and then everyone hated on it. super sad how south park unironically ruined the trajectory of the star wars franchise by making the higher ups question jj abrams lol
Timothée did and incredible job with this, it's a really simple movie but everything works perfectly, and it's really memorable. We definitely don't need it, but I would be down to a sequel/remake of Charlie and The Chocolate Factory with Timothée's Wonka.

22:43 if you ever get the chance to pet a giraffe don't pass it up you'll regret it, I certainly do.
Love this movie. Thank you so much for sharing this please do scary stories to tell in the dark if you haven’t already seen it ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Wonka is great and on par with theoriginal and great in its own way with call backs and manurisms of gene wilder just perfect omg i actually got the feels at the end
never seen the original but absolutely loved the one with johnny depp, this one was so much fun to watch as well 😇
i really love this movie! Thank U so much
This was one of my favorite movies of 2023 ❤ I wish you guys would watch Downton Abbey 😊
I watched this in theaters with my brother and his God siblings he left to the bathroom to cry 3x his 9 this is such a great movie
i think being older has messed with my brain now. when i was younger i could just enjoy movies but now i see a movie like this and i just think about how much money was spent to get known actors to play fairly minor parts anyone could have played. kinda like Oppenheimer had such a stacked cast and most of the big names really didnt have a big role or do anything to elevate that role to a level some unknown actor could have done.
His travel factory reminds me of Harry Potter potions kit 😂
Great reaction as always
Actor Chance Perdomo just passed away on March 29 Easter Friday 😭😭😭 we won't see him on S2 of Gen V😭😭😭😭 it was a motorcycle accident😭😭
And my first movie with timmothy chalamay and a big fan
I just got done watching this. So good.
I really enjoyed this movie too, just sweet and fun
I❤This Version ( Ofcouse I❤ The Original Too!) Also Love Tim Burton's Version Because Johnny And Freddie Are Great Actors!
One of the few channels where I need to be able to do a double thumbs up.
I like Gene Wilder's version, Johnny Depp's version, and this version. I just find it funny that a lot of people prefer Gene's movie version over Johnny's movie version even though Johnny's is closer to the book. Not exactly, but more so than the original.
For us, we never read the book so that has no impact on our opinions. Wilder’s movie is just a much better movie.
It’s part of a discussion so figured it was general to all who like Wilder’s Winka more
None of the remakes can touch the original RIP Gene Wilder.
This is a prequel not a remake.
Loved your reaction as always💗
You should check out society of the snow, i would love to hear what you have to say about that one
Loved the reaction, as always ❤ I would love you guys to react to Society of the snow! It is one of the most impactful and beautiful movies I've ever watched!
I love this movie I watched 5 times in theaters lol 🍫😊
Nikki, never change.
I just watched this today 😂 so cute
i love this movie it was a love letter to the classic one... it was recieved well too.. unfortunately the force awakens although a bit clunky was a love letter to the originals that got memed on bc of south park and then everyone hated on it. super sad how south park unironically ruined the trajectory of the star wars franchise by making the higher ups question jj abrams lol
I never wanted to watch this but you guys were watching it so I gave it a go but it was good and made me tear up
It's a really great movie. Chalamet was awesome. Please react to Society of the Snow. It's an amazing movie.
I was super worried and soooo cynical about this movie when it was announced... boyyyy was I wrong. I love this movie.
Timothée did and incredible job with this, it's a really simple movie but everything works perfectly, and it's really memorable. We definitely don't need it, but I would be down to a sequel/remake of Charlie and The Chocolate Factory with Timothée's Wonka.
a sequel would be nice
