Agreed. I'm not a fan of musicals, I'm not a big Wonka fan (think the original is good not great hated the johnny depp version) and have no idea who the main actor is besides he's also in dune which I haven't seen but I still enjoyed the movie
Hahah love it! My kids usually scream the second part of the first sentence: "Somebody call the doctor..." Other side of the room: "BECAUSE BADD MEDICINE IS BACK!" 😂😂
Fun fact: you mentioned Prof. Umbridge and the man who plays the accountant is Jim Carter who is married to the actress who portrayed Prof Umbridge (Imelda Staunton)
I love how World of Pure Imagination pushes every reactor to the edge of tears. Everyone grew up with the 1971 film, and they have their heartstrings pulled on with that song.
This shouldn't have worked...but boy it was delightful. The director, who made the PADDINGTON films, has this type of charming, funny, fantasy film down to a science! Never bet against this team of filmmakers.
There were some doubts when a wonka sequel was announced. Willy Wonka in the original story works well in big part because he's mysterious, and we don't know his past or the true nature of his character. An origin story kind of doesn't jive with that, but it ended up being a good movie with a unique take on the character. @@アキコ2003
@@アキコ2003 I believe what he means by that is because no one would find the idea of a Willy Wonka prequel ideal it wouldn’t do well. I was one of those people but ever since I saw the trailers then the movie itself I regretted doubting it. I even saw it three times at the cinemas

This is 100% a sleeper hit, and also 100% now going to be a family classic to watch. It's so good and fun, and somehow the marketing really did drop the ball, a bit. The trailer did give hints to it, but I think in part we're so used to cash grab sequels and prequels that we just shrugged it off. What they should've done was properly screen it so that the critics would've raved about it and then market as to how good the reception was. This movie was top tier, and I didn't expect it at all.
Wonka was definitely the sleeper hit of the 2023 Christmas season an currently stands at a $632M WW box office and #7 highest grossing films of 2023. It was really the little movie that could.
Guys you have no idea how quickly this became one of my favourite movies. There’s so much hope and love and nostalgia in it and you can tell everyone poured their heart into the movie ❤ I listened to the music daily for months and I’m still not tired of it, humming ‘pure imagination’ and ‘a hatful of dreams’ all the time. I couldn’t stop the tears when Willy turned the golden ticket around and it said ‘it’s the people we share it with’, love the message and was watching the movie in the cinema with my sister and my best friend and we snuck chocolate in and shared it with each other, it was so perfect I couldn’t stop crying 😃 I went to see it twice in the cinema and both times I left the theatre with a grin on my face and a skip in my step, dancing through the rain on the sidewalk. It’s magical ✨ sorry for the long message 😃
Oh and by the way, since you loved this you are going to adore the Paddington movies! They are by the same director, Paul King, and they are also so heartfelt and wonderful ❤ if you haven’t seen them pleeeease check them out, I guarantee you that you’ll love them!
To be honest I did not want to see this movie but I did because of all of you and I found myself surprised at the end, with tears in my eyes because of that ending with the girl and Wonka. Amazing reaction guys!
Adored this movie so much! So well written, so well made, so well acted. Timothee Chalamet was an unexpected but perfect casting. When I first saw it I was also so excited to see several members of the BBC Ghosts cast, love those guys so much!
This to me was a redemption movie for Willie Wonka. It was positive and charming instead of creepy. The time before Willie became jaded and was full of dreams. Loved it!
Terrific movie. Timothee Chalamet is a wonderful actor. Worth watching his filmography. Interstellar. Call Me By Your Name. Bones And All. Beautiful Boy.
this was such a surprise to me. it made me legit emotional. doesn't help that i've lost a parent and can relate that way, but still... it had heart! it was a really good story and i was never bored.
Answer, I loved your story about making your mom's cookies, at Christmas, after she passed. My mom used to make shortbread every Christmas. Like Willie Wonka's mom she believed that sharing it was what was important. Everyone even remotely a part of the family's sphere got some. When she died I wanted to carry on the love, but she didn't write down all of her recipe. After many failed attempts I finally figured it out and, yes, there was a moment of tears when I tasted that taste again. For the last 25 years the shortbread that my mom's hands used to make has been made (and given with love) by the hands that she made.
This film was a fantastic surprise for me. I found myself grinning like an idiot the whole show. It's rare these days that a film captures the sense of wonder that only cinema can bring. This was one of the few. Not gonna lie, I fully recognize the milking of nostalgia by closing with "Pure Imagination", but it still hit me hard enough to bring tears.
I went into this movie almost adamantly not wanting to like it. But I found it incredibly charming and well done. TC wasn't trying to replace Gene, just take inspiration from him, and I appreciated that.
Timothee is in quite a few different types of movies so his range is amazing! I love Call Me By Your Name, it is one of my favourite movies in term of the cinematography, acting, setting and Timothee is phenomenal in it. If you want another movie featuring chocolate, try Chocolat! It has Juliette Binoche, Judi Dench, and Johnny Depp. It is sweet and charming.
That sponsor bit!!! You guys rock 🔥 Also, you now have to go directly to Dune Part 2 so you can see how Tim does a complete 180 on being a nice and joyful character. Amazing performance on both movies!
There's a reason Timothee Chalamet's star has risen so fast. He really is an incredibly talented actor... but he's not your traditional movie star handsome, so I think it's easy for people to overlook his skill when they think of today's movie stars. He was nominated for an Oscar for his role in Call Me By Your Name.... I'd be real curious to see what you guys think of that one, particularly his performance in it.

Timothée Chalamet and Paul Mescal to me are the actors of this generation. Timmy has amazing range which is why his great performance here was no surprise. I think his best performance is in Beautiful Boy, which I can also highly recommend as a film. I sometimes feel like Timmy is in so many things nowadays and maybe some people haven't seen his earlier work and feel like he's overrated. He's definitely not, he has earned his success.
I really really love this movie. He inagination rendition has me sobbing every time. I love that song. It was one of my lullabies as a kid and its stuck with me. They tease it and then drop it at the end and it makes me sob. Its so good. I really really would be so interested in future mobies with this cast. He crushed it as wonka
I can’t say enough how pleasantly surprised I am to see you all give it a 5/5 WOW. (Not me tryin to take a pic of everyone’s boards 5/5 l but it cut off at the end 😅). I even watched the movie again (after two theatre runs) so I could refresh my memory before watching your review, and I cried more than I ever had yet couldn’t stop smiling on my third watch. It’s just brilliant. And those songs have been in my top rotation since Christmas. What an absolute joy for me to see three grown men love this. So glad you enjoyed this incredible movie.

Gents! Great reaction & what a fun movie - much better than I thought it'd be from the trailer. One point of note - the older gentlemen with the excellent voice (playing Abacus Crunch) is Jim Carter, who was Carson, the butler, in Downton Abbey...which brings me to my second point - I know it's outside your typical purview, but if you happen to find a gap in your schedule, I'd be absolutely over the moon if you guys ever did a reaction to Downton Abbey... But anyway. Also wanted to mention that the promo at the beginning was simply *chef's kiss*. Cheers!
I to was shocked by timothee's range until i went back and watched some of his other work and would recommend call me by your name and beautiful boy if you want another different side of him the later is probably my favorite role of his so far
I'm so glad you loved this movie as much as I did! I felt the same way about the beautiful message "every good thing started with a dream." This movie made me adore Timmy as an actor. If you are interested in other Timothee Chalamet films, I ended up watching a lot after Wonka and can give you a brief summary: 1.) If you want young Timothee Chalamet at 20 years old, he had a role in Beautiful Boy. It's about a father and son but it deals with the son's addiction to meth so it is a heart wrenching movie especially if you are a father. My Dad was choked up a bit. 2.)Little Women 2019 version is a great adaptation of the widely loved book. I love the actors. Florence Pugh is in this as well as Timothee. 3.) The King on Netflix is an adaptation of Shakespeare's historical plays. Timothee acts more like Paul in The King. He gives another compelling speech. Whereas in little women he is more sweet like Wonka. Beautiful Boy is really cool because it's a different side to Timmy's acting. He showcases his ability to be vulnerable and struggling with addiction and breaking down.
I love Wonka as you could tell from my pfp and i must say this was my most favorite react on your channel and my favorite reaction of Wonka ive seen on you tube i saw this movie 10 times at the cinema
That you guys didnt know this was a musical is so funny! 😂 Ive been waiting for you guys to do this one!! I loved this! Ive never seen timothee in anything else but knew he had some great movies under his belt. I loved him in this! He knocked it out of the park! It was a feel good movie with cute songs! I thought it was great! Noone is really making postive, happy movies latly so it was a nice adjustment to all the nagativity in the world. I loved that wonka was a man of his word, kept his word to his friends and didnt cut out anyone. Its a very rare charteristic especially in movies. So it was very endearing to see. It makes me curious to see what changed him to such a dark and mistrusting person
The thing about Sweet Tooth is that it IS how most commercials sell products, with a lil song, dance or just something exciting I love the villain song is basically a commercial
Mason totally nailed it with when he talked about trailer. I saw the trailer in the theater and thought it looked like trash. But then my kids asked me to watch it with them and I'm glad they did.
I wasn't initially willing and able to watch this movie but I kept seeing a lot of my favorite reactors watch this movie so I finally gave it a chance yesterday and I am happy I did. 😊 And then I got to watch you guys enjoy it haha 😄
Fun Fact. Mason, you love the voice of the actor Jim Carter. His most notable role has been Mr Carson on Downton Abbey. Hold on to your socks, he is married to Imelda Staunton, Delores Umbridge of HP infamy
One of my favourite films with Jim Carter (Abacus Crunch) is Brassed Off from the 1990s. It's set in the next town over to my home and also stars Ewan McGregor and Pete Postlethwaite ❤
Jim Carter, who played Abacus Crunch, (the accountant for a week), also played Mr. Carson on Downton Abbey. He's the one Mason Quinn mentioned for his voice. He's a wonderful actor. In real life, he is married to Imelda Staunton, the actress who played Delores Umbridge, in Harry Potter. She has said she loved the challenge of playing the character of Umbridge, but agrees that Umbridge was horrible. Staunton said she had no sympathy for Umbridge. So, she didn't like her either! 😂 Just a little info, as a fellow Harry Potter fan. 😊
I love this reaction so much! Like you guys I saw the trailer and had low expectations, only watched it because a few friends told me it was actually good with wholesome vibes all around. They were right, I was smiling from start to finish and the last 5 minutes made me cry, honestly I wasn't expecting such an emotional reaction. As usual I agree with The Oak - perfect family friendly movie and Timothee really did a great job here. I saw Dune 2 as well and man I'm excited to see his career pan out.
I think they figured that that people would know it was a musical BECAUSE this film was based on the Broadway Musical. That was not the case, this could’ve been a billion dollar film. Wonka’s appearance and attitude was Roald Dahl inspired, as was the height of “Lofty”. MOST of the music was written in Roald Dahl’s style as well. They also wanted to connect this film and the musical to the “original”, which includes “Lofty’s” song, Willy’s Final Song, The Clothing Worn, and MANY little quips throughout the film. It was truly, truly an amazing story with amazing humor and lessons.
It would make sense, filling in how Wonka goes from cheerful chocolateer to punishing badly raised children in disturbing ways. In this film, he was screwed over by fine print and nearly drowned in chocolate. Yet he goes on to use those punishments himself?
It was the perfect Christmas/New year movie I watched this twice. Definitely will be a yearly tradition to watch this then I think. Was a lovely surprise it was a musical and love Timothees acting!
i wouldn't call it a christmas movie yes it released in december bu that doesnt mean its is christmas film the film doesn't even focus on christmas its film that released around christmas time it isn't a christmas movie calling this a christmas film is like calling call the avatar movies christmas films when theyr not candycane lane is definetly a christmas film cux it focuses on christmas
Enjoyed this movie way more than I thought I would and it was a complete surprise to me that it was a musical which I loved! You guys definitely need to watch Paddington and Paddington 2! Wholesome light hearted movies directed and written by the same guy who directed and wrote Wonka which I believe he got British academy awards for best originalnfilm and screenplay that have plenty of humor, a few Harry Potter actors and tons of moments that are all about our favorite thing....FAMILY (in vin diesel voice)! haha 😂 Really hope you add them to your list soon! Keep up the great content! You guys are awesome! 😎💯👍👌🔥
Please, oh Please! BBC Ghosts! Written by amongst other one of the writers of this movie (the zoo keeper), and the guy that becomes sick by the word Poor. The zoo keeper, choclateer and the girl that gets married are amongst the great cast)
When he got to the part about "1 silver sovereign" i was distracted visually by something else, but still said "no you don't." I turn back to see it drop in the drain and i went, "I DIDNT MEAN TO DO THAT TO YOU THO!"
I’ve been waiting for you guys to react to this and I’m so happy now! Wanted you to experience it and me to get to watch you do so. Oak you’re always my fav, but everyone is wonderful

So glad to see you all enjoyed this! Like others, I was skeptical when I saw the trailer but my mom convinced me to watch it and I was like 🤩❤️ Nothing about it felt tedious. And all the nods they threw in toward the first movie (some of which you made me notice) were gem. 👏
I feel the same about the trailer. It intrigued me enough to want to watch it, but I waited until it was out on a streaming service. I watched it with my teenage kids and we were all surprised by the actual movie.
Great reaction as always ❤️ By the way guys the book keeper in this movie is very famous for playing Carson the butler in the show Downton Abby and he is married to the actress who played Deloris Umbridge in the Harry Potter series 🥰
If you guys haven’t already, you should watch Paddington, the director who directed that movie also did Wonka, which imo is why it’s so great and has such a unique story and lesson. Hope you guys watch it!
This is my favourite. Took my daughter and husband ti watch it in the cinema and we all left smiling and warm 🙂 It’s Whimsical and charming, true to Roald Dahl’s word play. I’d love to see a new Charlie and the Chocolate factory following this, with same director, style and Chalamet as Wonka. And you think Mrs Scrubitt is bad? Wait til you see Mrs Trunchbull in Roald Dahl’ Matilda, which I hope you watch some day (musical version on Netflix).
gotta be honest. my first viewing at the cinema was “ok”.. i thought it was a little lackluster and boring. but second viewing at home and i ADORE it 😂

timothee will blow your mind in Beautiful boy movie
Loved this movie. Instant musical classic. Only complaint is that it didnt do better at the cinemas
This film had an EXCELLENT return at the Box Office. It made over double what the company was expecting.
Why does everyone say that when it's top of the charts
I can’t say enough how pleasantly surprised I am to see you all give it a 5/5 WOW. (Not me tryin to take a pic of everyone’s boards 5/5 l but it cut off at the end 😅). I even watched the movie again (after two theatre runs) so I could refresh my memory before watching your review, and I cried more than I ever had yet couldn’t stop smiling on my third watch. It’s just brilliant. And those songs have been in my top rotation since Christmas. What an absolute joy for me to see three grown men love this. So glad you enjoyed this incredible movie.
Clicked so fast, I've been waiting for this since u guys started watching the Wonkas. I kept trying to hate this but it's a comfort movie for me now, it's that good. Everyone knocked it out if the park, great reaction guys!
Cause I watched the full reaction on Membership, I totally missed out on seeing that ScentBrd sponsor ad 😂 now that's the best way to do it! Quinn should wear the 'Handsome Devil' one 😉 Brilliantly done guys! 😄
I think he lived up to Johnny Depp's Wonka legacy. He embodied his mannerisms flawlessly at times!
It was a nice unison of Depp and Wilder. Very good work.
this is not a prequel to the depp one
Excited for the reaction, but first, Scentbird ad is hilarious!! Yall really killed that 😂❤
I'm so glad you loved this movie as much as I did! I felt the same way about the beautiful message "every good thing started with a dream." This movie made me adore Timmy as an actor. If you are interested in other Timothee Chalamet films, I ended up watching a lot after Wonka and can give you a brief summary:
1.) If you want young Timothee Chalamet at 20 years old, he had a role in Beautiful Boy.
Super excited to see this with yall. This surpassed my expectations since I went in with the bat on the floor
I love Wonka as you could tell from my pfp and i must say this was my most favorite react on your channel and my favorite reaction of Wonka ive seen on you tube i saw this movie 10 times at the cinema
I went into this movie with low expectations and left the theater with a smile on my face.
Pleasant suprise is the most accurate way this movie has been described
Another excellent reaction! Hilarious sponsor skit 😂
You have to do Ted Lasso next! I think you'll love it!
The thing about Sweet Tooth is that it IS how most commercials sell products, with a lil song, dance or just something exciting
I love the villain song is basically a commercial
Thank you Answer for sharing that story at the end about your mum and the Christmas cookies, it was incredibly touching ❤️
Oh my goodie, goshness! That sponsor Comercial! I think that was the first one i didn't skip. 😂
The film Wonka is..timeless! It's most certainly going to contribute to this becoming an EVEN better world!
I really enjoyed the reaction. I grew up watching the 1970s version with my family and I really enjoyed this one. It was fun and magical.
My parents managed and we lived at Stuckey's when I was growing up. I literally had chocolate and other candy trucked to my home twice a week.
I went and seen this film at an outdoor cinema earlier today for the first time and I absolutely loved this movie.
Yes I loved this movie the musical were amazing and the story was good thank you for reacting.
I have never skipped a sponsor ad out of habit and then went back to rewatch it until now HAHAH hilarious stuff!
14:16 Answer and Oak's nearly secronized reaction
I think they figured that that people would know it was a musical BECAUSE this film was based on the Broadway Musical. That was not the case, this could’ve been a billion dollar film. Wonka’s appearance and attitude was Roald Dahl inspired, as was the height of “Lofty”. MOST of the music was written in Roald Dahl’s style as well. They also wanted to connect this film and the musical to the “original”, which includes “Lofty’s” song, Willy’s Final Song, The Clothing Worn, and MANY little quips throughout the film. It was truly, truly an amazing story with amazing humor and lessons.
this is a prequel to the original musical film ad has nothing to do with a the stage musical
There’s rumors that a sequel is gonna be worked on which would be interesting.
It would make sense, filling in how Wonka goes from cheerful chocolateer to punishing badly raised children in disturbing ways.
In this film, he was screwed over by fine print and nearly drowned in chocolate. Yet he goes on to use those punishments himself?
it wasn'st rmuour the director discussed something about it himself
Always awesome seeing you guys!!!
You guys should watch the paddington movies. Such positive optimistic, wholesome vibes. It’s the same director.
And there’s chocolate!!
But only Wonka’s makes your eyes pop out of their Sock-olates!
Enjoyed this one a lot! Thanks, guys
Timothee is so talented, beautiful movie
Enjoyed this movie way more than I thought I would and it was a complete surprise to me that it was a musical which I loved!
You guys definitely need to watch Paddington and Paddington 2! Wholesome light hearted movies directed and written by the same guy who directed and wrote Wonka which I believe he got British academy awards for best originalnfilm and screenplay that have plenty of humor, a few Harry Potter actors and tons of moments that are all about our favorite thing....FAMILY (in vin diesel voice)! haha 😂
Really hope you add them to your list soon!
Of course this movie was gonna be good. It's from the same people who made the Paddington-Movies ❤❤❤ Watched it in theaters twice with my 9 yrs old :-)
So glad to see you all enjoyed this! Like others, I was skeptical when I saw the trailer but my mom convinced me to watch it and I was like 🤩❤️
Nothing about it felt tedious.
I loved this movie. It was just a fun adventure and really tapped into creativity and whimsical imagination. It was just what a movie should be.
that scentbird ad yall made had me dyin 🤣
I can't get over that sponser ad. 😂😂😂😂😂
24:25 That guy is amazing in Downton Abbey. It would be a great (complete) show for you guys to watch! There are even two post-show movies!
This is my favourite. Took my daughter and husband ti watch it in the cinema and we all left smiling and warm 🙂
It’s Whimsical and charming, true to Roald Dahl’s word play.
I’d love to see a new Charlie and the Chocolate factory following this, with same director, style and Chalamet as Wonka.
And you think Mrs Scrubitt is bad? Wait til you see Mrs Trunchbull in Roald Dahl’ Matilda, which I hope you watch some day (musical version on Netflix).
whos worse mrs scrubbit or mrs trunchbull
This movie helped me thru a rlly rough time, i cannot thank the creators enough❤😊
You guys have to watch “The Greatest Showman”!!! Hugh Jackman is great in it!!
The guy crying is adorable
gotta be honest. my first viewing at the cinema was “ok”.. i thought it was a little lackluster and boring.
but second viewing at home and i ADORE it 😂
The 2023 musical film Wonka uses a real giraffe named Molly as the model for a computer-generated giraffe named Abigail. The footage of Molly is copied, scanned, and used as an actor.
