- Debbie Reynolds captivated the world. In honor of her passing, Christopher Rice (The Book of Mormon) recreates the classic “Good Morning” number from the film “Singing in the Rain”.
Featuring Rice as Don Lockwood,
Clay Thomson (Newsies, Matilda) as Cosmo Brown,
and Broadway leading lady Eloise Kropp (Cats, Dames at Sea) honoring Debbie Reynolds as Kathy Selden!

Watching this reminds me why I love musicals, dancing, & singing and why I wanted to work on broadway and work in show business for all the years I did. I’m 62 now but this makes me emotional, smile, and again remember the joy this kind of dancing and theatre brought into my life. It’s in me forever. I don’t mean to be dramatic but this was just so wonderful watching these beautiful, young actors. Loved all three of you.

Not many people can do justice to Debbie Reynolds' excellence, but this is amazing!
1) I *love* that we hear the real taps from the dancers in-camera. It's a little glimpse into what the original number might've sounded like before they dubbed the taps in. 2) Loved the bloopers, too! Once again it gives us a taste of the sheer amount of work these types of sequences take to dance and to film with modern digital equipment and editing, let alone with 1950s film technology. Thank you very much for giving the world this wonderful tribute.
I agree. I found that quite thrilling to hear. In-camera taps were almost like retrieving the lost originals.
Debbie said they finished shooting at 5am....I assume you guys had much better working hours. This is a great tribute to Gene Kelly's choreography and the ability of a cast to nail the authenticity.
My son was born on March 23rd... I had never paid attention to that in all the years I've watched Singing in the Rain. You guys were magnificent!!!

And lol the NGs for the couch scene. If I remember correctly the original had to be filmed 17 times before Gene Kelly was satisfied with how they tipped the couch and flopped down on it. Seems like you guys recreated the filming process too hahaha

Having been one of those folks who saw this film when it was first issued, and then used it as a teacher (in so many ways, for so many reasons), I shuddered at the thought that anyone would have the nerve to attempt any kind of duplication of this classic moment in musical film. I was captivated and dazzled and have the section on "save" as it is worth any number of rewatching, if anything deeply enriching the experience of the original. Bravo to you for not demeaning the performances or being cute about them or doing anything but demonstrating the skill, talent and joy necessary to make an old number new again.

This is the definition of feelgood. It's so happy and joyous. It's also a faithful and expert tribute to the orginal that required a lot of study of the original as well as the obvious talent and rehearsing. The section with the yellow coats was particularly brilliant. Congratulations.

Fact:
Gene insulted Debbie that she can't dance. Fred Astaire found her crying below a piano
Carrie Fisher said that her mom and Donald stayed friends after that, and neither of them really cared for Gene.
Her feet were bleeding by the end of the Good Morning shoot, and Gene Kelly allegedly dubbed over her tap sounds with his own.
Fred Astaire didn't have much time for Gene Kelly. Referred to him as 'the Irishman'. When Tommy Steele went to Hollywood to make Finian's Rainbow in the 60's, he first took dance lessons from Kelly. Then he arrived for dance rehearsals with Astaire, who took one look at his moves and said ..... 'Hmmm... you've been learning from The Irishman, haven't you.....'. Then Astaire took Tommy under his wing, made him practice day and night, and before shooting started, re-taught him how to dance.

Gene Kelly was pretty well known for being demanding and a bit disparaging behind the scenes. . .
But you can’t deny that both he and Astaire (more to my taste) put out a quality and entertaining product.

Little known fact, Debbie didn't sing in the film. Her voice was dubbed over by another singer! Crazy, right?

According to my research Betty Noyes dubbed Good Morning but who knows! Whoever did it, it sounds great and Debbie is a dream! :)

I thought that was only for 'Would You' and 'You Are My Lucky Star' because of Betty's richer singing voice. Well, now i'm confused. But that's besides the fact that this is an outstanding tribute!
This is a lovely and dear tribute to 3 legends. All the talent involved in this endeavor are without question fantastic and sincere. But I can't help compare the reality of what true gifts the original 3 were to the world. Their unmitigated zeal and chutzpah wasn't something learned via a degree. They paved the road. THEY are THE inspiration. Debbie Reynolds was a true raw talent that will never be replicated nor her co stars and predecessors. We as artists are only our best when we create even a fraction of their brilliance.

Oh my goodness, I don’t even know where to begin with the comments but this has just totally and completely MADE MY NIGHT!!! When I was 17 Singing In The Rain was my favorite film ever! Every
time my parents would go to the library my Mom would ask what she could pick up for me and I’d almost always says, Singing In The Rain.
I loved the film so much that on the night of my birthday, at eleven that night I put in Singing In The Rain that way when the clock struck midnight and I was officially eighteen I would be halfway thought the film. Half at 17 and half at 18, not a bad deal.
Well, now I’m about to turn fifty in about three months and I still love this film as much as I did when I was 17, so when I say THIS WAS SPOT ON PERFECT, you know, that I know, what I’m talking about.
Thank you SOOO much for making this and posting it, it was an amazing and wonderful find and I can’t wait until I have the chance to show this to my Mother because I know that she will love it as well. Thank you, thank you, thank you!!! Much love to all of you!!!

I had the pleasure of meeting Debbie Reynolds when she came to Richmond VA to celebrate Seniors increasing their activity levels. I will never forget shaking her hand and being in the presence of a legend. Thanks for putting this out there. LOVE it

Singin’ in the Rain was my favourite musical out of a long list. I grew up watching Hollywood musicals and can watch them over and over again - they never get old.
