I'm on 100 mg & it doesn't work at all! I took 200 mg one night & all it did was put me in a weird trance. I've been on ambien, lunesta & everything out there. The only thing that knocks me out is Xanax. I have major PTSD & clinical depression. My doctor wants to put me in a sleep clinic. Once I was up for 7 days straight. Insomnia is horrible & how can anyone even work if you never sleep??? Insomnia needs to be taken more seriously.

I take it to help get too sleep, I take 50mg also. I take seriquel also plus a nerve pills. I've been awake for 48 hours because my pills came up missing. People know I suffer from depression. My X who I live with got upset when I took back my medicine. I fell the other night and I have a broke lumbar, he has been mean to me, he told me to leave or he'll call bad names, he started in on me and I called my sister to come and get me, I was serious about leaving, he's been nice except he was going to cuss me, I looked at my phone and he shut up. He didn't think I would leave. Pray for me please.

50mg consistently works for me. The only side effects in my case are dry mouth, needing to drain my bladder once during the night, and vivid dreams. I see a lot of folks complaining about the dreams, especially those with PTSD. For me personally, they aren’t always a walk in the park, but I actually consider them an added bonus.

@@lindacarol5982 I understand why you want to avoid the medications. I’m glad you’re not bipolar. Sometimes we just feel out of it and our mood could improve. I suggest looking at natural supplements. L-theanine, 5HTP, Mushrooms such as Reishi.
      But going back to meditation,
      meditation teaches Mindfulness.
You relax yourself, you recognize that you are safe, that you are in the present moment. Your thoughts are just thoughts. Acknowledge them as such and focus on the present moment which is real. The present moment is reality. Your thoughts are not reality.
You can do meditation anywhere from 5 minutes to an hour. You can also look up on TH-cam Guided Meditations for Anxiety or PTSD. Those are great.
Also keep praying if you do so, prayer was an early form of meditation. So it’s good. It teaches gratitude and mindfulness as well. Positive mood as well.
I wish you the best!! You can do mini-5 or 10 minute meditations throughout the day.
Add that along to some breathing exercises. I hope this helps you!!! All the best.

@@lindacarol5982 Memories about the past give us depression. Thoughts about the future give us anxiety. And the problem is that both are just thoughts. They are not in the present. They are not real. They’re just in our head. The only thing that is real is the present moment. And we gotta recognize we are safe in the present moment. Those are just passing thoughts, acknowledge that they’re thoughts and not reality. And let them pass by and go away. Just like clouds. Let them pass by and go away. Don’t let them control you. I've had every type of psychotropic out there over the past 30 years dealing with depression, anxiety, and insomnia. Each individual reacts differently to a psychotropic drug. If you have side effects that reduce your mental and physical safety, then stop immediately and inform your physician. Now that I'm retired, I don't need anything. Retirement is the solution! :-)

Ive been on this at 150mg quite long term for depression and insomnia, the most persistant side effect ive had have been swelling in my sinus. Ive also noticed that despite others experiences, its made my dreams completely bland, my dreams usually consist of a normal day at work or something otherwise realistic. However i do have occasional dreams about drug use wich have increased quite a bit ever since ive started sobering up. The dreams of drug use are so realistic they stop my cravings.

Had to stop traz this past week as I was getting symptoms of serotonin syndrome. The drug interactions between it and my other meds, along with my liver and kidney problems caused significant problems ending up in several visits to ER. It cannont be stressed enough to looking at all the meds you are on, and all your medical conditions prior to and during taking of drugs like Trazadone can help avoid or detect problems with your meds .
I have a dr in a box managing my meds who does not seem to have a clue about all the meds I have been taking that were prescribed by my med team and ER drs. And to top it off my now fired pcp dropped the ball managing my case. No one had a clue I was taking a potentiallt dangerous mix of medications. I got pretty sick.
Drs spend too little time on those of us who are taking so many different meds nowadays. Time constraints during medical visits due to many factors these days cause medical mistakes to happen like med interactions. Tgem problems like serotonin syndrone can develop. Communication between all the med providers you see has to happen, and in my case it was pretty lacking it has become clear to me.
Patients need a great team pcp to be your team captain overseeing all you take! And it would help if there were a centralized database that is up to date on all your meds you take regularly or prn.
I am no fan of drs in a box giving out psych meds now. Risky in cases like mine.

50mg of Trazodone has helped with my extreme case of insomnia. However, the side effects are very difficult to tolerate. It’s very hard to manage them, at times. But in my case particularly I have dealt better with the side effects of Trazodone than Atarax. Everyone is different, but I wish I could find something to help me sleep that didn’t give me these surreal side-effects.
I don’t think I can take this for a very long time because every single day I feel some tired, weak, lightheaded (especially at night), and it triggers anxiety too.
I have to say I would rather sleep and deal with side-effects for a while. But they are really strong already, so I will taper off after about 2 weeks or so ,hopefully.

Took this last night at 50 mg, I honestly felt like I was going to die. I vomited and my heart beat was irregular. I passed out on my desk and there was ringing in my ears. The way I passed out and then came back freaked my partner out, he was screaming a lot as I was going back and forth from reality to sleep. I'm not sure if this related but I was diagnosed with mild ASD by a psychologist, neurologist who prescribed this medication said I didn't have it. I know that those with ASD tend to be very sensitive to all kinds of medication even if the condition is mild. This rings true with alcohol and marijuana. I am happy I threw up last night, immediately felt better. I don't think I will be taking this again.

Great information. I have a mild serotonin syndrome. I've been on 200 mg Trazodone for several years. I started 10 mg lexapro two weeks ago and started to notice the symptoms. My physician is out of town for another week so we have been emailing so it's been a little difficult to communicate. I've been told to immediately withdrawal from the trazodone and cut lexapro to .05 mg. I am 72 hours into cold turkey. What can I expect as far as withdrawal since I can't taper. When will withdrawal start, peak, supside. I'm a 95 lb 5'2" woman. Could really use any input from you. Many thanks!

Xanax & stuff like this is all a mental withdrawal. I’m 5.5 days sober from Fentanyl & H. I find myself trembling outside and it’s 90 degrees out. I’m shaking, throwing up, and just overall really really bad. I did Xanax for a couple months and stopping really wasn’t for me. I just went cold turkey! Stay safe and Enjoy!

Also, I have methadone I take about 10 mL. I havent even started taking it yet. I was planning on taking it as soon as my detox starts, is it safe to take the trazodone and 5 to 10 mL of methadone at the same time or should I not take the methadone at all and just take the trazodone only to help sleep?

@@SnowWhite-kr9js the doctor started me at 50mg for anxiety. I was nervous to take it at first(I guess that's how bad my anxiety is) but I took it Saturday night after I tried to go out to eat and to a movie with my husband. We had to leave in the middle of eating and canceled our movie tickets because I felt so horrible! But I took it that night before I fell asleep. I tried four times the next morning to wake up and I couldn't I was so tired. That whole day my heart rate would not drop below the 90s which is not normal for me and that evening I got really hot trying to eat dinner at home I had to lay down! So it raised my heart rate and made me very hot but I didn't have a temperature! So I didn't take it again!

I take trazadone 50 mg and also citalopram 40 mg before I go to bed 🛌 together. Are those okay to take together before I go to bed just wondering. My doctor gave them to me to take but never told me how to take them. So that’s why I was wondering if they were okay to take them the way I Have been taking them okay let me know by. March 16/2019

People are able to use them together without any issues. However, since they are similar mediations there is a higher risk of side effects. I wouldn't expect any issues, but be contact your doctor if you feel like you may be having side effects.

I take 50 mg of trazodone. Would taking 1/2 the recommended dose of OTC 5-HTP have any negative side effects or could it cause serotonin syndrome? Does trazodone cause weight gain in women and loss of libido?

I was a alcoholic many years, but not anymore, there were many times it helped me sleep good, but there were many times it caused lots of destructive things to happen, also addiction to it is very dangerous, my addiction got bad sometimes n other times it wasn't bad
But people alcohol is to dangerous to mess with to help you sleep, it does help many sleep at times but it also causes lots more destructive stuff to happen n opens you up more to get possessed by more evil n you will become more evil
One night of drinking alcohol can cause many real bad things to happen to you

Trazadone was what got me out of 3 weeks of no sleep, I discontinued it due to fear of giving me a Prolonged QT which I was wrongly diagnosed but is a possible side effect. If permanent I don't know but it's a terrible disease.
