    Perfect message for me, I'm 61. Had to deal with parents getting sick in 2018. I just lost my job. Unsure why it happened then. Then weeks later many challenges happened that gave me why. I had roof issues, both parents got sick. Found out Dad only had 5 years to live from bone disease. Mom needed heart operation. I became care giver. Help with appointments, medical, repairs, maintenance for 2 houses. Plus had to deal with legal and my own fatigue. They both passed very quickly Sept 2021. I'm still dealing with estate while looking for work. I'm ? Why employers are not calling me. I have also learned from the greats. I'm using mindset resources like Joe dispenza's work. I feel I'm in a waiting period. ? When will things shift. Yes, I can understand that the steps I took for years and focusing on main tasks, projects is preparing me for something big.

      @JamesJones8552 I’m so sorry for all your losses and struggles. I read this and it resonated. I’m in a similar season and working my way out of it.
      I highly recommend reading Bob Proctor’s “You were born rich.” The Audible comes with a PDF handout that helps with understanding the subconscious programming we all have and working toward intentionally shifting our lives in a more prosperous fulfilling direction.
      Honestly, anything from Bob Proctor that resonates will help. I consume lots of self help and have for years, but something about his voice, his story, and his GENUINE desire to help others has helped me move out of the darkness. Wishing you the best! 💛

      Absolutely! Gratitude is what got me through my late-stage 3 cancer in 2016. When in my recovery during my discovery phase, in my quest to understand what I did to myself to get so sick, I learned on YT from Dr. Joe Dispenza that there are about 1,200 chemicals in our body that are activated when in a state of gratitude to help heal and restore our body back to health. AMAZING!! That was a WOW moment for me that I'll never forget because throughout my ordeal in 2016, no matter how small, I was constantly thanking God for everything, from the pillow my head laid upon, to every family member, friend and health professional that helped me. I never once blamed God. I was eternally grateful to Him and prayed without ceasing. Gratitude and prayer are more powerful than anyone can ever imagine!

    Your video reminds me of the story of the baby elephant who was chained to a small, old tree. It tried to pull and pull on the chain, but couldn't free itself. So it learned that struggle was pointless here. Eventually it grew up to a huge adult elephant, who could effortlessly uproot the small tree, but because it learned it couldn't, it never tried.

It is a great thing to concentrate on something and get good at it. And that's what can lift you out of the hum-drum. Then you don't check job ads you just pick the company you want to work for.

    I'm not sure how this video popped up, but it's cool that it did. You described what I'm going through right now. I'm 40 years old and have been teaching myself to code over the past couple years. That gave me the ability to create some lucrative programs that autonomously trade the futures market. I have just recently started taking some certificate courses to get a deeper understanding of programming. It took quite a long time, but I finally got tired of the 9-5 as well.

    If anyone reads this.. what I find so difficult, is coming up with WHAT is most important to do? If you want to become healthy, happy and financially stable. I can't seem to find my "thing", what I want to do, so I never stick to anything cause I don't know specifically what I want to do.

    • @lauriexwang
      @lauriexwang  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Figuring out what’s most important can be tough. Try starting with small goals in each area to see what clicks for you. Experiment with different things, think about what genuinely makes you happy, and don’t be afraid to switch things up if something doesn’t feel right. It’s totally okay to take your time to find your "thing." Every step brings you closer to figuring it out. You're definitely not alone in this!

    I think about pre-existing beliefs and find that it isn’t about challenging beliefs but about thinking analytically what they mean, their origin, and which are facts that truly benefit our lives because they are truths.
    It isn’t about challenging for the sake of it, because we feel uncomfortable or because the masses adopt new unfounded ideologies, dropping older beliefs. It is about learning to unlearn bad habits that come from false beliefs, false teachings, and false ideologies.

    So true this video. I did the 9-5 many years because I came from a middle class family so I just assumed as a young man , this is my fate not giving it a second thought. Don’t follow the herd when you are young. Do a job you really enjoy . Once I retired I started listening to educational you tube videos and positive psychological short videos as well. The combo made me think differently and it worked. Ive always had an interest in investing since my mid 20’s I must add. After I retired I decided to do something to earn money for fun. It turned out to become a fun part time job”work” maybe 8 hours a week that I’m making more then my last year of 40 hour a week plus from the job I retired from. But in my case the 40 hour job and my dedication to invest every year helped to do my new hobby/job/fun. Love making money with a click of a button. God bless.

After that I found a well paying job as a low-code application developer (started off as a trainee, as I had a business background). I have done projects for really big organisations, which I am really proud of.

      Thank you for you reply, Laurie.
      I have accepted that sometimes it is fine to slow down and rest. You could compare our bodies to tires, if you keep on hitting the gas pedal, eventually your tire lose profile (grip).
      Furthermore, I came to the conclusion that even though I have been growing quickly over the years, I am always on high alert -always wanting to please people, prove that I am good enough. The conclusion is that although I seem confident, deep down I have a really low self worth.
      This actually stems from my youth. Always seeking that validation from my father who was a successful businessman, wanting to be like him.
      Lessons so far:
      1. You are good enough as you are. Don’t go chasing after other’s their dreams. Find your own purpose (meditation really helps you in finding ‘yourself’)
      2. Question, really question when you are feeling some type of way. Dig deep and you’ll gain clarity. Only when you know the underlying reason, will you be able to take real action.
      3. Listen to your body, life is more than work. Learn to accept that it is fine to slow down sometimes

    Mindfulness inspired me to create my own channel - to gently remind people to stay in the present.
    I started deeply looking into meditation as someone who struggles with a constantly wandering mind since early university days. Some days are easy but most days are incredibly hard to be present constantly, especially as a student. Meditation has genuinely helped me become a better person and more importantly actively try to be a mindful person.
    Days are not easy but its the littles steps consistently that count!

    Great video! I've read a few of the books mentioned, so I know what I need to do but get stuck in that vicious cycle. I'm fairly active, sleep well and have a good income, so I feel privileged for that, but I want to do more for myself. For years, I've dreamt that people could buy a brand that I created, watch my TH-cam videos and I can work for myself, but I've not done the work to create something that I own. I know my downfall is distractions, whether that's doom scrolling or thinking that a different business or skill will get me further. This video was a positive reminder, and I feel more motivated to spend the rest of this year wisely.

    Your advice is inspirational - particularly regarding gaining new high income skills like digital marketing, coding, AI, etc. However, as someone from the industry I'd appreciate if you publish my note when I'd clarify especially for the younger audiences - learning from courses on tech skills alone won't be by far sufficient to launch a successful business, unless you have other leavers such as strong brand awareness you've worked years to build on. It all comes with experience. I'd recommend not only learning new skills but also getting into the industry by gaining an apprenticeship, attend events with successful e-commerce founders, network with those who've become who you want to be in years time. It's a roadmap, not an overnight shift to a new reality. Wishing all the very best in their journeys x

      Thank you so much for sharing this thoughtful insight! I completely agree-while learning high-income skills like digital marketing, coding, or AI is a great start, there’s so much more to building a successful business. Your point about it being a journey and not an overnight shift is so important for people to hear 🙌

    • @lauriexwang
      @lauriexwang  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +24

      Balancing deep work with a spouse and child can be challenging, but it's possible with the right approach. I had my child during lockdown and it was probably one of the most challenging period of our life (my husband is also an entrepreneur and was writing his book then), we are now parents of an energetic toddler and constantly juggle childcare and running our businesses. Here are some of the things that we did as parents that helped us:
      Creating a flexible schedule around our kid (I get those deep work period when school is open).
      Prioritizing tasks (this actually made me more focused).
      Embracing short bursts of productivity (when you are able to have it!).
      Communicating openly with each other.
      Be kind to ourselves and recognize that we are all running a different race and we need to recognize that we are in different season of lives (I'm not going to compare my productivity to that of entrepreneurs who are not parents).
      Thank you for sharing your perspective and hope these help on your journey!

      @@lauriexwang thanks for your prompt and candid reply. Nice to know you’re also married and a parent. We just had our first child in December, so she’s only 4 months old now. Honestly, I think I was getting more done in the late hours of month 2 while I was watching her each night, but even though she sleeps through the night now, I can’t manage those late night deep work sessions anymore since I’m back to my day job and traveling for work again. My wife also suffers from bad PPD, so I’m left to carry much of the duties around the house, plus care for her, the baby, and dogs, on top of my job (the only income) and building my business. I’m motivated but there’s no logic or reasoning I can apply to break through to her (e.g. I spend a bit more time now to gain a lot more time back for family in the future, not to mention financial freedom). I just feel stuck between a rock and a hard place. I have a daily accountability coach reminding to focus on one goal, it just seems that there’s always something that comes up at home stifling my progress. I’ve never been one to quit, but I’m really considering a long pause on everything. I just don’t want to let anyone, including myself, down. Anyway, thanks for listening and for the advice. 👍 I can’t wait for our baby girl to be able to do more herself. I know each stage has its challenges, but 24/7 monitoring and care is draining without family, friends, or hired help.

And that's fine but this time around I would really like to make something stick so when I leave this planet, I can leave something behind for my two adult children. My new channel I just started WORK HARD PLAY HARD is my new project to take me in that direction. Fingers crossed wish me luck! ✌️💜👊

    Hi Laurie, you are right about the learn high income skills. I was actually making the mistake of learning a role or learning the skills needed to do a job instead of me learning a skill. But out of all the skills out there, I only see a few listed, and they’re all the same.

      Having an idea of what you enjoy doing and want to learn will help you identify what type of skills you will need to future proof yourself. If you enjoy doing something or learning something, you will more likely stick it out in the long run. 🙌😀

    What does 1% improvement actually look like in real life? Does studying 1 hour per day count? And should I keep increasing the amount of time I study with passing day?

    • @lauriexwang
      @lauriexwang  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Every micro action that you do daily will add up (especially compounded over a year and several years). You don't have to keep increasing the amount but it doesn't hurt if you want to do more as a bonus to help you achieve your goals.
