Over 20 years ago life was a struggle for me. I started keeping honey bees. I know, odd. But talk about simplifying my life! Honey bees have taught me so much about life. Amazing.
Enabling, people pleasing, needing to be right, putting myself down, caring what people think, expectations, gossiping, staying comfortable, eating processed food…💖
This so much. I quit sugar and ultraprocessed foods a couple of months ago. I lost around 15 pounds without feeling hungry, and at 46 I feel better than in my thirties.
Got rid of television, alcohol, social media, junk food, and realized most things beyond my control are not worth worrying about, but realize I am capable of making my immediate surroundings better/tolerable/efficient on improving myself through diet, exercise, sleep and what I put into my mind and spirit on a regular basis.
Quit noise. Try to be analog. You don’t always need AirPods in your ears. Just go outside with nothing but your shoes and listen, look, SEE nature. It is amazing how present you can become with nothing in your pocket or in your ears.
I’ve been successfully decluttering my flat and like what I don’t see crowding my life. I’ve given up caffeine, processed food and gambling. No more unnecessary purchases or overbuying what I don’t need. I feel good about minimizing my life.
That is one of my three guiding quotes/sayings. The others are "Whatever you can do or dream you can, begin it. Boldness has magic, genius and power in it. Begin it now." Said to be by Goethe. And third one, "If you can move it an inch, you can move it a mile."
Very insightful. Thank you for sharing this with us. I'm 65 and two years ago I was contemplating a cross country trip on a motorcycle. Something I always dreamed about. All the negativity and voices from others told me not to do it, it's too dangerous etc. I felt something within that was saying if I didn't do it I would always regret NOT doing it. I went away from the negative people and I planned it out and I DID IT! At 64 I rode all the way to the west coast and it wasn't the destination but the journey that was so fulfilling. I met people from all different walks of life on the way and got to see things I never would have seen if I would have stayed safe. Thanks again for sharing this. New sub'r here.

I quit eating sweets too at the beginning of the year and I'm down 2 dress sizes. I'm now working on cutting out ultra-processed foods/ingredients. I still have 2 sizes I want to lose, but I'm already feeling more myself as I'm closer to what used to be my baseline weight. Call it decluttering fat. Lol. But two unexpected bonuses from getting off sugar were: I stopped wanting fast food, and after about a month of being off sugar, the pain in my feet (plantar fasciitis) went away, and I get much less random joint pain everywhere, which I had previously attributed to just being a symptom of being over 40.

Cutting out alcohol 22 months ago made a massive difference to my growth as a person and my happiness. I quit saying “yes” and “being available” to everyone who constantly come to me to vent about their problems…. I’m a empath and want to help fix peoples issues but what I realized is that people like to trauma dump on you and go their way. They never ask how you’re doing because they have become accustomed to me doing things for them. I am not going to change who I am to people but I now know who the usual suspects are and am comfortable with setting boundaries no matter who they are.
This was extremely helpful! My life goals may not be as lofty as some others (building a refuge for unwanted roosters), but I've been letting many of the things you've mentioned hold me back. Fear, mental and physical clutter, and definitely over-consuming media. Time to focus and act!
To simplify my life, I quit... trying incessantly to be a minimalist, expectations to have a perfect morning routine, and also shaming myself for not doing repetitive meditation/yoga/breathwork.

Hi, Simon, thank you for sharing! Good points, I wrote them down! What I quit over the years and never regret: smoking, drinking alcohol, eating meat, company of people with 'bad vibes'. What I ADDED on a daily basis: fresh fruit and veggies, moving/dancing, reading/learning, singing, knitting/crocheting, gardening, watching the clouds, taking pictures of the beauty of nature and share them with others, who are like minded. On a WEEKLY basis I added painting, playing guitar and recently Ukulele, nice company and a new language: Chinese (my husband and I love to learn new ones). At the age of almost 70 I’m thinking more about clutter … I don’t want to store more than I need, but it’s difficult with a lot of interests. I’ll follow you for inspiration😁. Love from Germany, Monika❣
Yes! yes! yes! I gave up meat at 20, alcohol at 36, and smoking shortly after that. After losing my job during the pandemic I found a way to not go back to dead end jobs I used to think were all I could do. Now I volunteer as a delivery driver to take free food to a women's shelter and feel good about my contribution. Oh, I forget to mention what i consciously gave up that actually saved my life: Choosing damaged men to fall in love with who would go on to abuse me. I only allow loving and kind men in my life now. I know my worth and believe in myself. Things I am working on letting go of now: clutter in my home, excess food waste, over spending, and procrastinating.
Excellent tips you gave. Some tips that have helped me: 1. Never put off things that could be done today so you don’t carry that burden into tomorrow. 2. Strive to do what excites you to keep you vibrating at a high level. 3. What you put out is what you get back. Put out positivity and people will reflect your positivity back to you and you will in the flow of synchronicity. 4. Be yourself. You all have your own signature vibration and frequency, just be yourself, it’s too much work, too complicated to be an actor. 5 circumstances don’t matter, only your mindset matters. Keep your mindset positive.

I downsized my clothes radically and it makes things easier for me. I even bought 3 shirts from L L Bean of the same green plaid. My closet is half full now. Fun to be a minimalist.
I never understood this Steve Jobs / tech-bro fad of wearing the same thing everyday “because it is one less decision.” How big is your wardrobe or how much second-guessing are you doing that you spend more than 5 minutes getting dressed in the morning? Grab socks and undies from top of stack, pull pair of pants from top of stack (or front of rack). Pull first shirt that goes with pants. Get dressed. Done. If you spend more than a minute deciding what to wear, you either need a better system or need to be much more decisive.
Over and over, I relearn that if a decision (not-life-or-death) has to be made with urgency, it probably is a bad decision. Good choices come from taking time to think about them :) I really enjoy your videos, they are a great way to help me realign my internal compass. Thank you for sharing your thoughts!

Seeing this video affirms me. Thank you 🙏 I quit nursing school 2 months ago due to financial and health constraints. I felt directionless. But recently, I brought myself to a journey of setting myself up for the best. I have been doing daily yoga, pilates, and I have quit sugar, dairy, and gluten and only opt for eating whole, unprocessed foods. And I never felt this beautiful and healthy in my life. I also donated many of my things that I dont use, i switch to minimal skincare, haircare etc. and that made such a difference to my previously unwise spending habits. Now I’m in the process of being a flight attendant. I do not regret quitting nursing school, knowing if I become a RN, it would have not fit in the lifestyle I dreamed of living 5 years from now :) I always keep in mind, my daily habits will determine who I will be in the future.

The big negativity throughout my life has been my family. They don’t support my positive energy. Imagine them as the metal, lead. So now I keep minimal or 0 communication with them & started repairing: ME & my own family. Great video.
The result of the experiment makes sense. I’ve worked on group projects for my graduate degrees and overthinking and lack of unified ideas was rampant. Children have clearer and less complex thinking. Your video is excellent and full of wisdom. I have started throwing out and have cut out news apps. Yesterday I was thinking of my favorite things- my sons, grandchildren, clean drinking water, playing my instruments, hiking, sketching., and my finance job. Thank you for the video. I tend to be a research addict. We don’t have to know the answer to every question. I love knowledge but balance is most important. Thanks again.
3 things I quit that freed up an enormous amount of time and energy for me: 1. Watching all sports on TV and then all TV. My TV set is an old plasma screen and rarely ever turned on. 2. Going to church religiously every week after they went woke. Selective teachings instead of the whole truth. 3. Working longer than the standard expected hours per week. (Quiet quit).
Your decision to quit these activities to reclaim time and energy is quite empowering. By eliminating TV, you’ve likely found more time for productive or fulfilling activities, and an old plasma screen gathering dust is a testament to that shift. Stepping back from a church that no longer aligns with your values reflects a commitment to personal integrity and truth. Lastly, adopting "quiet quitting" to work within expected hours emphasizes the importance of work-life balance and self-care. These changes highlight how intentional choices can lead to a more focused and meaningful life. Thanks for sharing your experience and inspiring others to evaluate how they spend their time and energy.
This year i decided to simplify my life with a similar wardrobe change. I’m no longer dealing with fashion. Black shirt and jeans. It was the most liberating decision. After 2 years of extremely challenging events, I have decided to pick myself up, move, and create a better life for myself. At 63 years young, there is no time like the present! I am working on many points you listed. Decluttering, being more conscious of my spending, exercise, proper sleep and eating clean are what I am focussing on at the present time. I am living a nomadic life for the next 4 months, so putting my energy into what will make me & my life much more productive is the goal. I am very glad I have come across your channel. Timing is everything! 🙏
Really good advice. I procrastinated starting my own TH-cam channel for more than five years. I was afraid what other people would think of me. I was afraid I would fail. "Consuming more than I create" is something I had never heard before. Very good point. I first have to cope with overthinking, indecision and anxiety though... And cramming information is not helping that much overall.

3 things I quit that freed up an enormous amount of time and energy for me:
1. Watching all sports on TV and then all TV. My TV set is an old plasma screen and rarely ever turned on.
2. Going to church religiously every week after they went woke. Selective teachings instead of the whole truth.
3. Working longer than the standard expected hours per week. (Quiet quit).

Best comment yet!
@@thomasarbec7242 👏

Your video, direct and to the point. No word salads. The best :16 minutes I’ve spent to day. I have to start eliminating. Old habits need to be replaced w/best practices you recommend. Thank you so much ! I’ excited to see how my world opens up.
❤️❤️❤️
Quoting/reducing social media simplified my life drastically
👏👏👏
Busyness trap is the gem here! If you're working crazy hours or running around everywhere but not making progress you're not being productive, you're just keeping busy.
Absolutely 👏
Risk is the only thing I can control. And tomorrow I will be waking for 1 hour.
Thank you Simon
👏👏👏
This is the first time I am commenting on a TH-cam video and I am doing that because you said everything I want to hear in the most kind and exact way, so thank you
Thank you 🙏
Uncluttered living space; eating less and eating well. - thank you you have reaffirmed the necessary 🎉
👏👏👏
I try to distance myself fr negativity and as I am getting older I try to fill my free time w people that are more positive. Also I have made self care a priority. Easier to do since my girls are adults. It’s nice to think of yourself and your likes
👏👏👏
"Consuming more than I create" is something I had never heard before. Very good point.
I first have to cope with overthinking, indecision and anxiety though... And cramming information is not helping that much overall.
❤️❤️❤️
I live in a studio apartment.
Twin bed.
One easy chair.
One desk chair.
Armoire.
In this space I live and work.
I draw in graphite, charcoal , pastels and oil paints.
All my art supplies, papers, mats, frames, brushes, canvases are here.
Plus, over 150 completed art works.
I would love to simplify and occupy a spare space.
But I cannot.
❤️❤️❤️
Your voice is so soothing that it helps me focus on my homework and inspires me to keep going simultaneously. Thank you Simon for your time and effort in aligning people with their higher self.
