  • Hi Viewers,
This is not a tutorial on how to fix ( I am not a mechanic). I am trying to fix this problem by myself to learn, repair and save money. My approach was to watch youtube videos ask experts for their feedback on fixing the problem.
In this video I am sharing my personal experience on fixing a rough idle, loss of power, problem on my Mitsubishi lancer 2004 ES 2.0L.
I am guessing it will take me few more videos to fix this issue.
I would love to receive your feedback on the repair and video editing; I will try my best to improve my future videos with the help of your feedback.
Thank you for watching and enjoy.

I have a 2006 Lancer and I am having the same rough idle and vibration and inconsistent idle . Now that I have seen you do this I feel confident enough and I am going to attempt to remedy the problem myself. I have not changed the spark plugs in almost 5 years and I am going to attempt to change them myself. I just have to borrow some tools from my neighbor. Thank you so much for this video. God bless you.

I just wanted to update you on the progress. After cleaning the EGR valve the response to acceleration improved; but it did not fix the idling issue. There was also some oil in the EGR valve. I am guessing the blow-by gases caused the oil in the EGR Valve, and/or blockage in the exhaust system, perhaps the catalytic converts. I am still trying to figure out how to perform the exhaust pressure test.
Further, I decided to use the Seafoam treatment to clean carbon build-up. I used 1/3 in the fuel tank, 1/3 in engine oil and remaining in intake through the brake booster line. I couldn’t believe the results; it fixed P401 code (bad catalytic converter). After the treatment my O2 sensors and catalytic converter functionality worked at normal levels. However; during the treatment I saw smoke coming out around the rocker cover. Further inspection revealed there is an oil leak coming out of the camshaft seal.
Recently I have also installed an oil catch can. I also performed a compression test but readings are not consistent, maybe I have a bad gauge.
Engine shaking was fixed after replacing the front and rear mounts. My youtube video is available on how I replaced the mounts (th-cam.com/video/FIda5OMI5t4/w-d-xo.html)
Engine idling is still not fixed, I am running out of options!

    Hi Viewers,
I just wanted to update you on the idle fluctuation issue. After diagnosing the problem related to the stuck throttle body value. A month ago, I took out the throttle body, and lubed the butterfly valve/plate with WD40. Since than I have no idle fluctuation issues. This problem is fixed! I am more than happy to provide any information. Thank you so much for watching and please subscribe.

Loss of power, poor idle is also related to exhaust leaks, including, exhaust manifold w/catalytic converter, leaks from flange gaskets. A leak test should be performed. In my case I had a oil leak from the valve cover for many years. It eventually seeped into the exhaust manifold and perhaps contaminated the catalytic converter as well. I will be posting a video related to the exhaust system. thanks for watching.

+Eric Boyle Hi, thank you for watching my video and especially reading all the comments! I don’t think a flex pipe leak causes idle issues. However; there might be other issues such as, exhaust creating back-flow resulting in poor gas mileage, loss of power, catalytic converter functionality issues, rich / lean fuel issues etc.

    Hi Viewers,
Today, while I was sitting in my car, the idle started to fluctuate from 1000 rpm to 2000 rpm. It always stays above 1000 RPM (it is higher than normal). However; when AC clutch engages the RPM jumps to 2000 (it is also normal for RPM to go slightly higher when AC engages, but not 2k rpm). My understanding is that the RPM levels should stay around 700 and with AC on it should be around 900-1000k range.
Next, I turned off the AC to see if the RPM drops, and it did. But the idle was still at 1250 rpm after turning the AC off (normal is 700). While I was thinking of a possible cause a thought of stuck accelerator cable, throttle or a stuck accelerator pedal came in mind. So, I decided to put my foot behind the gas pedal and pulled it up. It immediately brought the RPM down to 700 rpm!
Now, this tells me that I might have a problem with a stuck throttle or perhaps cable and/or the gas paddle.
Now, I will be focusing on these areas to confirm and fix this problem.
    Thanks

Recent update; After installing the Oil Catch Can, (Here is the link on the video, th-cam.com/video/uEIYts3Evtg/w-d-xo.html) idle is much better. I think PCV line was leaking or perhaps it was cracked. In addition, my battery's negative terminal was loose. I have replaced the negative battery terminal with a new connector. So far, I have not experienced any fluctuation in the idle. I will update you if it comes back.
    Thanks
    PS
I will be replacing, camshaft oil seal (Here is the video on how I replaced it, th-cam.com/video/ZEdoJzgTtEM/w-d-xo.html) and perhaps rocker gasket. Thanks for watching.

perhaps you do a lot of kick downs and run engine on very high revs. you can see the black film on and around butterfly plate before cleaning. I always clean butterfly and throttle using tooth brush and either WD40 or throttle cleaner it will efficently remove that black film that makes it stuck

I have an 02 lancer and you may want to check your adjustment on the throttle cable itself and also whenever you do anything to the vehicle, (plugs, cleaning, gaskets, etc) always disconnect the battery and take a drive so the ecm can relearn. Otherwise it is still trying to use old information. Good luck. Oh. and my biggest issue was the intake manifold gasket.

hi got a Mitsubishi lancer 2010 2.0 manual car and got this 1500 rpm problem recently when my mechanic cleaned the injector nozzles manually. I noticed when I start in the morning it'd running normal at 1000 but when I drive and probably get warm it increases to 1500 and it plays. he coming tomorrow to check buy any reason or same as video

Hiya nice video, question I have the same problem and the engine mount on the drivers side firewall was broken and causing the engine to really idle badly whenever I came up to a light I had to put the car into neutral to quiet it down. Have you also changed the transmission mount.? I have a 2000 galant and its located under the battery

Hi afza motor. I have a Lancer CS3 which is pretty similar to yours except that mine is a 1.6 4G18 and urz is a 2.0. I too decided to clean my throttle body one day and did so exactly the same way you did your car. After starting the car, (f.y.i - you are suppose to press on the gas to kick start the engine once ur done cleaning the throttle body) I noticed that my idle has gone up to 1100rpm -1200rpm and when I switch on my a/c it drops down to 1000rpm. This has now resulted in a increase of petrol consumption and I've got no idea how I can push back down the idle to its original 800rpm mark. I'm thinking of sending the car into the dealership to get a engine tuning done (ecu flash and adjustment) but I'm not too sure if it would solve the problem. Your help would be much appreciated. Thanks!

Hi, I would do a vacuum test, use OBD-II scanner and make sure all of the systems read "ok" or "completed". fix if there is engine light. Make sure engine air filter housing is secured and there are no leaks. test and clean egr valve. good luck and thanks for watching my video.

Well there was some improvement, but it did not fix it, instead of cleaning and replacing, I will perform the below the diagnosis
    1. Fuel pressure check.
    2. Exhaust related issue, pressure
    3. Catalytic converter functionality.
    4. Fuel Trims
    5. Mass Air flow sensor testing.

      Hi Tony,
      do the following
      1. Check transmission fluid, if low fill it, check for any leaks, do a smell test and see if its burnt. Hopefully you replaced it as per the maintenance schedule. If it was never changed then there is a possibility of failing transmission or bad valve body or bad clutch plates.. Change oil as per the maintenance schedule.
      2. Check and fix any engine codes, use an OBD-II scanner.
      3. Early and late shifting is caused by a malfunction in the valve body or a bad PCM, sometimes cleaning or replacing the valve body can fix the problem and in some cases fresh transmission fluid can fix. However; if the fluid was never changed or if the transmission fluid smells burnt than changing the oil will make this problem worst than it is now..
      4. Test and verify the functionality of transmission range switch.
      Good Luck

      @afzamoto5325  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

+jennifer bernales Hi, I am not an expert on transmission, but i would check the below items.
      1. Check fluid level, quality of it, check if it was ever changed. If it was never changed there is a possibility of damaged transmission.
      2. Check for an engine light, if there is a code, fix it.

+getsome sports okay do these as well, so fix one problem at a time and test, and then move on to the next solution, one by one,
      1. Clean EGR valve, and tests its functionality (if it holds pressure).
      2. Make sure engine air filter and its housing is sealed and there are no gaps/holes etc.
      3. Clean MAF
4.Test injector (s) and fuel regulator.
      5. Check your coolant ( test the coolant) replace if needed, and test coolant temperature sensor.
      6. Perform a vacuum leak test.
      7. Perform a exhaust leak down test.
