      DarkDragonWing i have a p0401 code do you think a bad o2 sensor might be the cause of it?

      GJJS hey bro, i see you having the same problem as me, did you change your O2 sensors or the catalytic converter? my mechanic is saying i have to change the catalytic converter and it will cost around $400. i feel they robbing me

    • @Black_Sniper2587
      @Black_Sniper2587 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Emran Ali i changed all that but a mechanic told me there may be a clog somewhere in the intake manifold.

      how i solve this

      @@emranali1705 if the change is for a complete exhaust manifold that have one catalytic conveter cartdrige inside, $400 its probably a big deal. If your mechanics just gonna put a new catalytic converter into your manifold it should cost just $200 but i dont know if it is legal into your country

    Great video, tried the spark plugs, didn't do it, took it to a shop, they gave us the readings, replaced mass air flow sensors and new computer, runs like a champ

    Upstream smooths out acceleration hesitation, downstream smooths out backpressure when decelerating. Noted that when I replaced mine. Good video!

    Well done young man ( well u may be old now due to when this vid was made ). Im an older home mechanic and you went through the diagnosis steps very quickly and clearly. Ticking each negative result off as you went, this was very helpful to me and comfirmed component parts I needed to check and possible results. Thanks for the Video work and succinct commentry ; Your still helping people yrs after.

    Hi there.
    1.Check if you have bad inner & outer tie rods.
    2.If you have good or changed inner/outer tie rods and still feel vibration, try doing the alignment or check if your front wheels are good.
    The main cause of the vibration is the bad wheels/tires.
    Suggestion: you can try replace your front wheels with rear wheels to see if that will do it.
    good luck

  • @DarkDragonWing
    @DarkDragonWing  12 ปีที่แล้ว

    No problem. Oh, I believe I have showed you in the video how I took it out. I basically cut the wires and use a wrench, the ring wrench with another wrench to kind of give it a torque or a lever. So I can turn it easier. I thought I was gonna bring it to the mechanic, but I figured, I should ruin it before I pay some money. However, I got it out myself.

  • @MattacksRC
    @MattacksRC 8 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    awesome how you extened that wrench but just putting two together.. I would not have thought of that.. nice man! XD

  • @DarkDragonWing
    @DarkDragonWing  11 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hi. He was just showing how to disassemble/reassemble the IAC so that you can clean the inside or you can change the parts that need to be changed.
    .
    If you don't wanna mess with it, I would say clean it like I did at 2:19
    .
    Or you can buy a cheap non-OEM one on eBay.com for $40, but I don't know if it's any good.

  • @DarkDragonWing

    That's good. Yes, it it normal. The RPM at idle will be low when the engine is warmer. Once you change the O2 it will even be better.

      DEFINE COLD....... the temp gauge is registering ABOVE the cold line,, and as long as the valves and rings have oil and condensation (if cold outside) is off the cylinder walls, rev it all you want.. But a first start after 8 hours straight to a redline..yeah thats just dumb.....

    Interesting video but.....why would you just start changing/cleaning random things? That is a complete waste of time and you seem way too smart to just do random stuff. Also buying your own "code scanner" seems like it would be well worth the $100 or so seeing how you do all your own work on these cars

    • @DarkDragonWing
      @DarkDragonWing  9 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      +mikekoz68 Oh most of these things are the things that I need to change or clean. At the time I just bought the car, so to make sure that I can trust it and know where it is at, I have to perform all these things. cheers

    I looked on Google images for the location of both sensors. So I think you should do the same, just search for IAC EVO 3 location or IAC EVO 3 replacing.
    I read people's forums and also watch youtube videos that will sort of help me to see stuff better.

    I would say you did the right thing by cleaning the (MAF) Mass air flow sensor,(IAC) Idle air control and also the (O2) Oxygen sensors nice job

  • @DarkDragonWing
    @DarkDragonWing  11 ปีที่แล้ว

    Yup.
    - unstable idling
    - feel like a flood in the cylinders which gives no power when you try to accelerate it
    - seems to be fine once it's running for a while
    - happens every time when you start it up especially when it's cold

  • @DarkDragonWing
    @DarkDragonWing  11 ปีที่แล้ว

    No, only one small piece of plastic there that you have to remove. So that you can lift up the carpet.
    And the reason why I cut the wires is because I want to fit the wrench ring on the censor. I couldn't take it out with the socket.

  • @DarkDragonWing
    @DarkDragonWing  12 ปีที่แล้ว

    Did you unplug the battery before you did all that? If you think everything is good and in place and if you just want it to start it up, what I would do is lose the tube from the air filter to the intake, so that you can see the throttle hole, and spray some gasoline or engine starter spray in there. Not too much though, just enough to get the engine started. Good Luck!

  • @DarkDragonWing
    @DarkDragonWing  11 ปีที่แล้ว

    I don't know the specific way for that, but the general ways to reset the car's electric system without a high-tech-code-reader are:
    1. Take off one of the battery cable for a couple of minutes. Then put it back.
    or
    2. Take both battery cables off, then touch them together and wait for like a couple of minutes. Then put them back.

    Hi, if you can go to Ebay and search, these will be the ones I would buy:
    NEW DIRECT FIT O2 OXYGEN SENSOR REPLACEMENT - AIR FUEL RATIO PRE CAT UPSTREAM
    NEW DENSO 4W OXYGEN SENSOR MITSUBISHI VEHICLES VARIOUS
    First one is the upstream, and the second one is the downstream(it's universal and you'll have to wire it). The part numbers are varied due to different companies that make them.
    Here is another downstream that you don't have to wire anything:
    Bosch 15360 Oxygen Sensor
    Cheers!

    Man I gotta say, I have a crush on the rotary engine. I like both RX7 and RX8. I like the look of the RX7. The new modern type of driving goes to RX8.

  • @DarkDragonWing
    @DarkDragonWing  12 ปีที่แล้ว

    O2 sensors' rough idle: unstable idling, feel like a flood in the cylinders which gives no power when you try to accelerate it, seems to be fine once it's running for a while, happens every time when you start it up especially when it's cold...
    I would if the engine light says so. I also would even If the engine light isn't on or doesn't say if it doesn't cost much and I can do it myself. Otherwise, it could be a vacuum leak which I have no experience on that part.
    Hope that helps!

    To change upstream sensor was easy for me . Downstream sensor for someone who never did it it's little challenging . Downstream sensor it's between driver and passenger side under the car "next to the catalyst converter" . When I was changing both sensors I just cut wire and removed it " so you don't need some special socket ".But to find out where to plug in new one 'downstream sensor :_) O my good > That took me a while to find out , because I didn't want to cut wires on new one . If you take carpet out on passenger side in the left corner close to the shifting gear is plug in .It took me 2 hours to change both sensors , but I'm glad I did it and for next time I can easily do this job in 1 hour .Anyway I have to thanks this guy

    There are two fans right? So only one running? Well I guess you should check if that fan is not working. Technically, both fans should stop/or running at the same time. (you should do more research, I can only guess)

  • @DarkDragonWing
    @DarkDragonWing  12 ปีที่แล้ว

    Ok I can see how it is. I think you can fix this by checking the EGR (see if there is any tube leaking). Take a look at the video below. Just search for it. I know it's not the same code, but just so you can see to help you figure it out. To help you by making video, that might not be possible for me. Search for photos on google would help too.

    No problem man my car still at the machine shop and it's going to cost me $600 for rebuild. The timing belt cost around $30 and water pump is $45. If I were you make sure before you take off your belt to mark the teeth on the crank shaft to the motor so you can assure you don't throw your car off time. You might also want to replace your crank shaft sensor since your all ready in there and have the motor all apart. The sensor cost $80 :(
