This video is great. To me Miles is a really good modern representation of what it means to be Spider-man. I really liked how the game emphasized the fact that Miles isn’t trying to be like Peter, he becomes Spider-Man by fully embracing who he is as a person (hence the tag line “Be Yourself”). This is something I wished the MCU did similar w/ Tom Holland since the whole fanboying over Tony Stark got really old fast.
Being a fellow black and Puerto Rican kid from the city (Chicago, not NYC though), Miles is a direct reflection of my experiences. The way him and his mom speak Spanglish, the way Miles interacts with his people, the way I said, “THATS ME!” during Spider-Verse, this game, and when I first discovered the character in 2013....it’s magical. I’m so happy Insomniac gave Miles his own game. It means more than a lot of people realize.

did anyone else notice in the game that when you zip zoom to a far spot with Miles, sometimes when you land and stay there he stumbles and has to catch himself. Amazing details in this game man. Also, the combat is clumsy at the first half of the game I would say, but once Miles grows more into his role as spider man, the combat becomes much more flawless. I love when story and gameplay are integrated into one like that.
I was hoping that this game would have all the small details that Spiderverse did and this video proves that it does. This is my first video I’ve watched of you browntable, pretty good. Peter Parker showed anyone can wear the mask, this kid proved it.
I really liked this version of Aaron. There was no way they were going to top Into the Spiderverse so they opted to craft a really unique story that fits this game and has so much potential for future games.
This game built on what ITSV did for me. I felt connected to the people of harlem and new York. I actually want something like this in real life, a community of people brought together by someone trying to do what's right. They completely aced everything about miles character, the way he won't give up and let people down no matter what, trying to live up to being spiderman despite not being as experienced. I really did feel like miles morales, because I could simply relate to him so much, and I feel everyone can on some degree.
I absolutely love this video, a lot people have their point of views toward this game but it really is a big impact to tons of people including me, finding out what kind of person you want to be and how you can learn from your mistakes and never give up is what a human truly is, Miles Morales is one of a kind and is my forever Spider-Man!
What makes me love both Peter and mMles is the one thing they share. They both doubt themselves and think they can't do what needs to be done but in the end they both never give up. As regular people they face challenges and have to deal with the publics perception of them, but they both fight because it's what right. Even when it seems hopeless they don't back down or give up because they know what they're fighting for and know they have to win the battle for the people they love
I really enjoy that this game makes some direct call backs to The Amazing Spider-Man movie. Spoilers! Spoilers! Spoilers! Spoilers! Spoilers! The brief first person swinging scene reminded me a lot of The Amazing Spider-Man but what really brought it home was the final scavenger hunt side mission. Miles finding recorded messages from his deceased father was completely reminiscent of Peter listening to the message from Uncle Ben at the end of The Amazing Spider-Man.

it feels so rewarding having to rewatch this video over and over for the nth time even if it's just recently uploaded. It's everything I wanted to say about this game too. So much heart and soul
This review is fantastic! There’s one part, I believe at 4:50 where you mentioned that it would’ve been nice if the side missions were mandatory but I’m actually glad they weren’t. It lends to the overall theme of the game. That’s why it feels better that they’re optional missions. :)
I already knew about the he's our spider-man line before I played the game, but when I got there after doing all the sidequests and connecting with the people of New York, the line just hit so much harder and I almost cried
I barely finished the game, I wanted to be sure I finished all the side quests and activities before finishing the main quest. But I really agree with you that whenever Miles speaks Spanish, it always is so nice to hear. I even like how it's not entirely fluent (accent wise). Cuz I can relate to it
Mauricio I’ve already simped enough but this video is amazing not only have you showed how two version of one character can have the same changes but have different impacts, but how one character who was seen as a skin color remold of the original is vastly different but yet the same in terms of being heroes who have to be the people’s heroes
I didn’t even know you could dance!! Also I really liked this game but I didn’t think Phin should have died. Her dying felt really weird to me. I know she did a lot of bad things but I felt like they should have let her live because a lot of her quest was justified. I feel like I’m general the final fight should have had Phin and Miles team up because neither of them were truly in the wrong. Krieger is. Also to say a bit about the Prowler I actually really liked this version of the character. We see a lot of Spider-Man stories where the hero gives up so much because of their responsibility and that’s obviously one of the things that makes the character great. But I think having this version of Aaron Davis to go “what the hell are you doing. This is not your job and you don’t owe the city your life like this” actually makes a lot of sense. He just wants to make sure Miles is okay especially after he never got to reconnect with his Brother but is unable to understand that the thing Miles needs to be okay isn’t just his own life but to protect his community. Also I like in general the prowler’s more anti-hero approach. The fact that the gave the character a sympathetic look as he was essentially a villain who was essentially working to make ends meet works really well. I hope insomniac doesn’t forget what they’ve done here for their next game which will probably be more Peter centric title. I would love another Miles Morales version of that game (the director of Miles said he likes making a smaller game) but even more I’d love for the sequel to be about both Peter and Miles. Please call it Spider-Men.
Another aspect of this is that Miles and Peter’s more altruistic goals and actions (wether through vigilantism or volunteering at FEAST) is contrasted with Kreiger, Fisk, Aaron, Phin and the Underground and selfish motives of greed, self-preservation, personal vengeance and notoriety respectively. Each of them only see their own goals and what it will take to achieve them, while Miles gradually begins to grow stronger bonds with the people around him (both his mother and Ganke in his civilian identity and the community of Harlem as Spider-Man) and strives to be better in order to benefit others. Meanwhile, Fisk and Krieger are left alone with only their influence, a thirst for more power and an army of goons they pay to do their dirty work. In the end, when Phin is able to literally see the people she has endangered and realizes for the first time that she isn’t right about something, she to becomes better to benefit them rather than letting her hatred towards Krieger blind her to the Underground being willing to remove her once they felt she’d supplied them enough. Aaron learning to overcome his self-centered and cynical world-view that he uses to excuse his crimes and instead support his nephew’s cause allows him to become instrumental in protecting Harlem and exposing Roxxon at the risk of his freedom. Miles being able to new connections like the ones he’d lost in Jefferson, Rick and Phin is precisely what gives him the push he needs to come into his own as Spider-Man, as a has something to fight for beyond himself. That’s the importance of family and community (or should I say, neighborhood)
We really need a Superman game with this level of community around it. This game was fucking amazing imo, it made me fall in love with Miles' character all over again!
Made me cry like a little girl when Miles realised Phin was dead, and again when he phoned his mum about her. Wonder how Spider-Man 2 will mess with my emotions.
So I’ve not actually finished the game yet, I’m pretty slow at video games in general tbh, so I’ve been avoiding spoilers and avoiding everyone’s videos about the game. Fantastic video, but I do wish they made Phin a deeper character and gave her an actual reason to hate miles/ spidey. They should’ve made it to where she has emotional ties to and hates SPIDER-MAN, not Miles. If they wanted to make it deeper they should’ve altered the story to where Miles as Spider-Man somehow had to do with the death of Rick while they were infiltrating Roxxon, maybe Miles interfered and Rick gets caught and killed, maybe he foils their plan and Rick later on dies to the sickness and Phin blames him, THAT would’ve made her hate for Spidey ( therefore making her hate Miles once she finds out) sensible and have more depth, instead she just hates miles because he didn’t say he was spidey and he used their friendship to infiltrate.

I love Spider-Man Miles Morales its really awesome and badass
This screams of the exaggerated swagger of a black teen
Wat
U has no swag boy?
Oh boy yeah
This review is fantastic! There’s one part, I believe at 4:50 where you mentioned that it would’ve been nice if the side missions were mandatory but I’m actually glad they weren’t. It lends to the overall theme of the game.
That’s why it feels better that they’re optional missions. :)
Dude both games so far have been the most beautiful love letters the the characters, can’t wait to see what they pull out for the sequel
There is definitely nods to Spiderverse. His swinging animations really remind me of it. Love it too.
I love this so much!
I love that the Prowler is in this.
Cuz I can relate to it
I’m just saying Browntable videos essays are always the best and just keeps on getting better
The shirt is bloody awesome. Thanks for having me in the video!
10:50 I felt that. I truly felt that.
I wonder what your opinion on the score/soundtrack of the game is. 🤔
I love Miles so much..ever since the spiderverse...I love both of the spider or one of my fave of all AU spiders!!!
HIGH QUALATTE VIDEO
Thank you for making this video
You make awesome content
Miles Morales is the bad-ass Spider Man that I really loved as a character.
We really need a Superman game with this level of community around it. This game was fucking amazing imo, it made me fall in love with Miles' character all over again!
My thoughts exactly. What I'd give to save a cat out of a tree as Superman. Not to mention having characters like Turpin, Bibbo, and Hamilton.
One thing to complain about this game...Peter Parker getting the Benjamin Button treatment (face aging backward).
I saw on Twitter that the vid wasn’t doin too well for ya, so I was like ahh I wanna support but no spoilers! 😂 So I decided, I watched it on mute while I was working on a video.
But don’t worry I’ll be back as soon as I’ve finished the game! Can’t wait to actually watch it, from what I’ve seen people are lovin it and I’m intrigued as to what was going on with the cereal 🤔
Keep up the good work man! Hope this helps! 😁
Thanks so much!
3:12 he swings with the exaggerated swagger of a black teen
I’m so glad it’s acknowledged. Imo this is the best of the 3 Spider-Man games
I finished the story last week and from the beginning I fell in love with it. This was such a great game despite its length.
If only the MCU had a spider man like this
When I got the PS5, literally the only game I cared about was Miles Morales and that was it! And it was definitely worth it
I HIGHLY recommend Lackadaisy cats as a comic to read.
Feel like you'd really like it.
I heard their making an animated Series also you should Check Out Dreamkeepers as well is an amazing Comic
Amazing content as usual!
Watching this made me wanna play the game and listen to the soundtrack while I do it
This videos has all the exaggerated swagger of a Black teen.
That's all it is Miles.. a leap of faith.
I appreciate the effort you put into getting the intro shots Mauricio.
that transition at 7:03 was so clean
Insomniac really knows what they are doing
This is your first video I've seen, but it is so brilliant! I agree with your review, I love this game, definitely my favourite spidey game!
Phenomenal video Mauricio as always :)
6:32 Wow you have a great eye, I didn’t even make this connection!
3:07 I think you meant to say he has the exaggerated swagger of a black teen
Quality content. Good stuff
Fantastic video, but I do wish they made Phin a deeper character and gave her an actual reason to hate miles/ spidey. They should’ve made it to where she has emotional ties to and hates SPIDER-MAN, not Miles. If they wanted to make it deeper they should’ve altered the story to where Miles as Spider-Man somehow had to do with the death of Rick while they were infiltrating Roxxon, maybe Miles interfered and Rick gets caught and killed, maybe he foils their plan and Rick later on dies to the sickness and Phin blames him, THAT would’ve made her hate for Spidey ( therefore making her hate Miles once she finds out) sensible and have more depth, instead she just hates miles because he didn’t say he was spidey and he used their friendship to infiltrate.
very interesting video as usual. i like that you talk about stuff you love not just dunk on bad stuff haha
aaaaaaaaaahhh...
With a year this... shity?, I think all of us needed a game like this. We needed a story like this.
Take care people.
Title: a powerful,inspiring story
Me:you’re goddamn right
*You should work for Disney+*
*or Hulu to make a new Spider-Man Series*
*No Joke Your work Is 🔥!🔥!*
You made me tear up 😿 at the end. Great review. I love this game, hopefully they find a good way to keep miles for spider man 2
it makes you feel like a black spiderman (not being racist i love miles)
and has the exaggerated swagger of a black teen
it gives be goosebumps every time he does that
