    This is a modern, already bladeless ( UK legal ) version of my old MP600 that I have had for years. I believe my old one is the pro scout, which had the remgrit jigsaw blade like the one on this new one. The saw is not as effective at sawing through anything soft but if you lose the key to your padlock, give it 15-30 minutes of sawing and you can cut the padlock off depending how thick the metal is etc! A friend had to do this on his campervan when he lost the padlock key on the outside of the door.
    This is truly, as other people have stated "the AK47 of multitools" it is just built like a tank. Does not look particularly attractive to most people but it sure is durable and very useful. Models of the MP600 are heavily used by the United States Military. There are models specialised for demolitions and various other tasks.
    I do not trust leathermans. I have had a cheapo leatherman-like tool break because I gripped too hard and an old friend told me he has trashed several leathermans because of his way too strong grip. This Gerber design means you CANNOT smash it. I have stamped on my old one before and it still, to this day, opens and closes perfectly.
    This would make a great fathers day gift. Something to think about.

    Great review - still actual and informative, without tactical nonsense. I do agree with the author- use tool as it is meant to be used!

    I DON'T live in a knife and gun restricted area of the world, but I don't like blades taking up space on my Multitool. I always carry a knife and ALL the blades on my knives are better than what's offered on multi-tools. Also, I prefer my knives to be just that, knives. No additional stuff or gadgetry. Thanx for the video my Bladed Brother 👍 ⚔️ ✝️ 🇺🇲

    I have an upcoming 'business trip' to the UK and while your restrictive knife laws suck, any reason to buy a new tool is a good day.and ordered a Gerber Bladeless. I found replacement saw blades from Ace Hardware for $4.99 each so ordered a couple of those as well. Looking forward to a proper English Breakfast! The optional tool kits are really hard to find and wonder if they have been discontinued, fortunately I already have one for the full size Phillips screw driver.

    There is actually an easy way to get all the excess black coating off of the metal surfaces. And speaking from experience, it doesn't cause rust or corrosion. Though I'm sure many will find the process disgusting. Still, if you never plan on lending your black Gerber multi-tool to anyone, then why not? Several very rough, stiff paper towels and some saliva works amazingly well. Don't actually spit on your multi-tool. Lick a small flat portion of the paper towel, then just use that to rub back and forth on a small section of the multi-tool. Repeat as often as needed. Be sure to get every surface of the multi-tool. Inside the handles as well. Along with the individual folding components too.
    After that, no more black smudges on your hands. And there's still plenty of coating left on the tool to prevent rust and corrosion. You'll be able to see all the cosmetic imperfections when the thick coating was first applied. Then again, this is a tool meant to be used. It's not something pretty to hang on the wall and stare at.

    Looks interesting, I have used two leatherman and have found them, as you said to have finish issues.

      So you have had leatherman have the same black finish issues?

    That looks like a rockin' multi-tool man. I carry a Leatherman Super tool 300. Usually I don't like Gerber, compared to Leathermans, but this one seems different.

      I do not like Gerber's smaller tools. Their full size ones are god though. Well, at least the MP600 and similar designs. I do not like the fold out /leatherman style because the pliers are not as strong with that design. These are nuclear proof!

      Smaller Gerbers like Vise/Dime are made in China hence quality issues. This is made in USA. Plus it's the preferred multitool of the US military.

    The precedent where a buttery knife was held to be a offensive weapon would apply to any non sharp edge such as can opener

    Everyone's getting a misconception here you can carry a multi tool with a blade on in the UK but the blade has to be under 3inch and can't have a lock I.e liner lock the reason why the Gerber m600 with the blade and many other multi tools like leatherman wave are not legal carry is because there blade locks into place and has to be manually unlocked but you can still carry them in the uk on the streets if you have a reasonable purpose for it like your a trades man or going fishing but you can't carry it as edc if your after a multi tool for edc purposes and want a blade then the best options are like the leatherman juice or a Swiss army knife which have friction lock blades which are under 3inch long and so are uk legal for edc

      I was looking at LM Juice CS2 but now they're unobtainable in the UK. Plus at £60 they were overpriced anyway imo, I prefer the MP600 as it's tried and tested as the favourite of the US military.

    Can you open the tools with the pliers disengaged?

    • @techwg
      @techwg  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You have to open the pliers first.

    surely the locking saw is classed as a blade

    • @techwg
      @techwg  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      By bladeless it means it has no knife in it. The tungsten carbide saw "blade" is good at cutting very tough materials but it won't even cut skin. I could scratch an itch with it nicely but that's about it. Plus, you can remove it easily if you are concerned.

      Firstly it's to make it TSA compliant, or legal in those countries (like mine) where locking blades of any size can't be carried unless you have a specific reason i.e. for work, but even in the USA if you work as a janitor in a school/college you're probably not allowed a bladed multitool. But apart from that, a lot of guys hardly ever use the knife blade on their multitool anyway and carry a dedicated folder with a better blade.

      @@simonh6371 TSA at HNL will still take it. They take nail clippers.
      They have an auction several times a year where they sell hundreds of these tools at a time. TSA is nothing but government organized thievery. They haven't made anything safe they just steal from passengers

    • @simonh6371
      @simonh6371 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@MasterYoist Yeah I've heard about them, they don't have across the board regulations and basically their officials can enforce whatever rules they want, so people get confused, and get stuff confiscated. Fooked up. But there are other places and scenarios where a knifeless multitool makes sense. Especially since most multitool knives are pretty wimpy, let's be honest.

    I'm sorry but UK absolutely sucks!!! If I can't have a blade in my Multitool than there's just no way I'm going to waste money on a bladeless MT. I care about the law as much as they care about me!!! Every MT I own has a great blade on it, it would be a shame not to have a blade in an expensive Leatherman or my Gerber. I just couldn't live without at least having a 2-inch knife in my MT. I'm always cutting things with it and so does everybody I know. A blade is a must have!! You wouldn't carry a gun with no bullets will ya?!?

      @168grhp 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think it's smart to get this bladeless Gerber and then pocket carrying something like an Eafengrow EF223. MT's with good blades are expensive.

    • @simonh6371
      @simonh6371 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You can have a blade, just as long it's non-locking and under 3in/7.62cm. This unfortunately rules out most Leathermans. Squirt is too dinky, Styles don't have enough tools, Juice CS2 is now unobtainable in UK plus at £60 it's overpriced. You can get Gerber MP600 for around £70. There are loads of options for a UK legal folding knife to carry too, I like Victorinox Alox as the blades are thicker than the ones with plastic scales. Even if I carry a multitool with a non-locking blade, I still carry a folding knife too.
