    A while ago I realized that I almost never used the pliers on my multitool, at work, and that the weight was always noticeable on my belt. I saw the KS2 Elite and bought it, and haven't regretted it once. Easy one-handed blade deployment over other tools I've used is a big plus. And the scissors, which i use frequently, are a big plus.

      I'm probably the opposite! The Pliers end up being one of my most used tool! If I just use a screwdriver, knife and Scissors, I'd be tempted by a slim victorinox though, but would be tempted by anything with a locking blade!

      For the life of me I can't understand what scissors can do that a sharp blade cannot. Even a flimsy set of pliers can twist, pull, push, bend, cut, crush, tear, pick things up, etc that no other tool can do. What is this mania for scissors that we see on practically every tool review?

    Weird that the KS2 Elite doesn't include a regular flathead driver/pry-bar option, but only the small micro bits, although the built-in phillips bit is acceptable for most applications. I ground the spur off the saw and reshaped the end to use as a sometime, light-use pry-bar and slot head driver.

      Just got my KS2E today, and I'm with you - I love it! I think D2 steel is highly underutilized for multitool blades, since it's not an expensive premium steel like M390 or Magnacut and offers decent edge retention and slight corrosion resistance (I'll see how it holds up in the summer months in my pockets.)

    I use the smaller (70mm long) M3, which is brilliant. I believe the socket is magnetised (it is on mine) and the M3 has tweezers and a toothpick and really small flat/philips screwdrivers (i.e. electronics components size) as well as regular screwdriver heads. Knife and scissors are CR13 steel, and all the tools lock. It also comes with the bit set. I carry it all the time.

    Thank you for an informative video. Love your video editing, etc. Not sure if this will replace my SAK explorer or the power pint. The deployment of the 3d Phillips head and the flat bit is super fast on the SAK. I work in electronics and use the mag. Glass to look at tiny labels on components. The PP won me over when I had to replace a circuit breaker on the 4th floor using the tiny flat head screwdriver. Like others have set, a bunch of us carry a “main Primary” folding knife for most cutting duties so in some ways “nullify” the knife of the Rox.

    I'm happy to see that you've started looking at Roxon tools. I've had the S802 Phantom multi-tool & the original S502 Phantasy lock blade pocket knife (original aluminum handle scales instead of plastic) for nearly 2 years now. I'm still very happy with the quality & utility of both. What sold me on both was the blade trader feature of both tools. You can trade out the blades without needing a tool to do the blade switch. Roxon makes 17 replaceable blades for them. The downside is that 2 of the blades are only available on the tool itself. So, in reality, you can only buy 15 blades separately. The pocket knife comes with a drop point blade & multi-tool comes with a Tanto blade. The good news is that all 15 replacement blades are still available in sets of 3 blades for $20 to $25 each set. That's $6.67 to $8.33 per blade, which is a bargain if you want to outfit your tool with what you consider the perfect blade for your personal EDC tool. The bad news is that you don't get to choose which blades are in each set. Another upside is that the S802 Phantom multi-tool comes with the nylon sheath, the 9-piece bit set & replacement wire cutter blades. In my opinion, it's a bargain for the $50 price on Amazon. Which blades do I consider worthless? I'd have to say the steel comb & the box cutter blade. So, basically, there are 15 usable blades available for your personal preferences. (I bought all 15 of the 'sold separately' replacement blades)

    I have a KS2 and a Roxon S802. The S802 has a neat blade-changing system so you can put on a serrated blade, drop-point, clip-point, or utility blade holder that takes standard utility knife blades, which sold me on it. Also a bit driver and bits that work about the same as the KS2 (with more bits). The S802 is about the same size as a Leatherman Wingman or Sidekick.

    Roxon ROCKS! HA, HA! My KS2E was delivered on the same day as your KS2E review vid!
    It's my first Roxon product, and I am blown away with the quality, functionality and value of this smaller pocket multitool.
    I was looking at buying another SAK, but I wanted more edge retention from a multitool blade, and all the online kudos for the KS2E and the Roxon brand, just made it easy to try something new - I'm not disappointed at all!
    Great form factor and feel imo, love the grippy G-10, and you're right Aaron, the scissors are awesome and I'm definitely a fan of D2 blade steel compared to the low edge retention steels by the competition. I agree, the pocket clip is limited - it seems more like a shirt pocket clip, rather than for pants pockets??? No discomfort in the hands from the clip, though....
    The bit extension is magnetic, but the contact point of the Phillips head, makes the magnetic retention weak, but it doesn't fall off easily - time will tell. The KS2E will definitely get some good (shirt) pocket time.
    Great review and keep up the fine work!

    Recently got a Leatherman Rebar after lots of research after being a locking folder or small fixed blade and a Victorinox guy for years. Thought maybe I could use a pair of pliers and decided to go for the big name brand, spend the money, and go from there. I love the rebar and it has worked perfectly for me even almost as a single carry item. I have been pairing it with an Izula II for when I feel like the cutting task isn't for the thin blades of the rebar. Now that I have pretty much decided I'll have to start adding more multitools that aren't Victorinox to my collection, I keep seeing Roxon pop up more and more. They really look like a valid contender for a purchase on several of their products. This one being D2 blade is a big plus. On a side note I realized I got swept up in the whole steel nerd stuff again, while I enjoy collecting and trying out the lastest trends, I almost forgot again that most people don't need a $150 plus 64hrc monster performer of a blade. Other than banging the blade into something like when I was scraping moss out of my leaf traps while cleaning my gutters the 420hc has honestly been totally satisfactory. I could have used any other tool and saved the blade but I wanted to see how bad the metal wire traps damaged the blade while scraping and picking stuff out. It really is just fine for a knife. I have used 5cr and below though and at that point it's really not that great, if it's treated and ground well enough though it should be about the same as 440a like rough ryder uses and will be alright for day to day uses. With that side note I think I am going to check out some of these cheaper options for sure.

    Missing a main argument for the Powerpint too with the magnetic bit setup. Plus the option of adding a mini ratchet with it as well. The pliers and use as a bit tool are the main reasons I love my Powerpint. And Im gonna say over 90% of us carry a folder or fixed as well as far as the knife goes. Or at least a utility knife, like the Workpro. Which is by far the best for the price. So as cool as it is. And it is cool. Its still not gonna replace anything I carry just yet.

    Victorinox SuperTinker maybe a Vic Mechanic at most is all I need for a pocket multitool. I might need a bigger knife, but I never need more tools than those unless I need a whole toolbox.

    One of the things that is hard to test for, and where the SAK has a big advantage, is the learning curve and the muscle retention of the tool itself. I can use my SAK safely, even blind drunk or half asleep. My muscles know the tool and I don't have to think about how to use it, I just *know* on a subconscious level, intuitively. I have a few pocket knives like that, too, that I just *know* without having to think about them. Not all tools will form muscle memory like that, not smoothly, not well, and some just fit that better than others. Partly it's familiarity, but not all designs age well. You can't really talk about that until you've had one for years. Everyone knows the reliability and limits of the SAKs. It's a crap shoot with other options, and not an aspect many people cover.

    • @ironman2326
      @ironman2326 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      These other newer tools are cool, but I'm going to stick with my Victorinox. It's just classic all the way around. I personally don't care that much about single hand deployment. The blade steel is great for EDC and sharpens up nicely. The whole thing is smooth, familiar, and comfortable to use. If I need a bigger blade or better steel, I have my Benchmade with me.

    • @willcool713
      @willcool713 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@ironman2326 Yeah, my feelings exactly. I have a couple of multitools I sometimes carry as well, which I rotate through, mostly for the pliers and shears, but with bit kits, too (but I use the bits with my SAK most times). And I also usually carry an Addamas with me.

    I just received mine (KS2E elite) and I am impressed.
    My only gripes are - Phillips screwdriver needs to be 1 size bigger (#1) and there is no flat head screw driver to turn a decent size screw (1/4" or 5/16" blade would be ideal).
    The bit driver is also too small but handy for eyeglasses. The star bits could be bigger as well. But I don't need the bit driver because I have a Wiha mini rachet/bit driver kit in my bag.
    The scissors are just what I was looking for. The D2 knife blade is the perfect compromise, the 3 tool push button release needs to make it into more multi tools. Even the (too small, too thin) saw works well enough. And I really like the very low profile glass be breaker, especially that its a captured ball bearing not a sharp point.
    Roxon made a really smart tool. I would actually pair this up with the SOG Powerpint for a great mini tool kit.

    pre-Covid when I was the office First Aider, I got a Nextool flagship pro, for the large shears. The scissors on this multitool look pretty usable, and being oblong and flat it doesn't look aggressive and wouldn't be out of place in an office environment.

    After using this for a couple of months the only thing I can knock it for is that the tools can sometimes be finicky to deploy. As a result, not my favorite in a pocket or on the belt for a primary multi tool. So, I built an EDC toolkit around this and a 711L mini ratchet in a Maxpedition mini. Very happy with it in that capacity.

    You’ve started something. A week ago you panned the Civivi utility for its poor blade mount and retention. Looking at the Roxon page I find the S502U, a simple $24 knife with replaceable blades. Further down is a $20 blade set that includes a utility blade mount. Combined $44 that should function better than the $43 Civivi and includes a Warncliffe blade in 8Cr13.
    I do have some concerns about that 25 year warranty. First it’s “offered” never says it’s included. Second warning is the Specifications picture that has WARRANTY 10 years printed on it. Probably worth the gamble anyway.

      It's even better than that if you just want the utility blade that by itself is available for $10 so that would be $34 but there is an option to bundle the knife with the utility blade for just $30 and you still get the normal blade that comes with the knife
