David, been a long time follower of a number of different knife channels over the last few years, and only started watching KnifeCenter in the last 6 months. I have to say that I’ve been making time the last couple of months to watch all new content from your channel. Your style and presentation, as well as your knife overviews, is very much to my liking. Keep up the great work. Knife Center will definitely get my business on my next purchase. Loved the TSA component today. Thank you!

Thanks DCA. I watched this for your review of the Gerber MP600 BLADELESS. I usually use my Leatherman because I feel it is better quality, but I moved from USA to Singapore about 3 years ago, and they have EXTREMELY STRICT knife laws (and most laws in general) along with astonishingly harsh punishments for breaking said laws, so I cannot carry anything outside my house with a blade 😕. Therefore, I asked my wife for the Gerber MP600 BLADELESS version for my upcoming birthday. That's why I'm doing some research on this tool that has already been out for so many years! Thanks for all your content, Steve Bates

Hello Mr. Anderson. Thank you for your in-depth and detailed answers to viewer questions in these FAQ vids. Have helped me make purchasing decisions in the past.
I am looking for a folding knife with blade around 2" and steel that can hold a scalpel-like edge, but has decent toughness. May or may not be stainless. Good edge retention is always a plus, but don't mind having to frequently strop if I can hone to a fine edge. Needs to allow fine control, like for wood engraving. Currently considering the Dragonfly 2 given the handle design and finger choil placement, but trying to compare to other models I may not know about. Thanks for doing the heavy lifting for us!

Detent, it holds the blade closed. It's usually a very small hole in the back end (on the lock bar side) of the blade, that a small ball on the lockbar drops in to.
The detent hole is very small at only around the 1mm to 1.25mm mark on most knives.

Another good bushcraft folder at a lower price point but still very sturdy and comfortable in hand is the Boker Arbolito bushcraft folder. It is 3.75" blade of 12c27 in a scandi grind with granito micarta handle scales and is a lock back. I have one, and am quite happy with it. It comes with a nylon belt sheath, and is under $100.

Vis-a-vis the steel opinel uses is 1 that I was able to keep Sharp all day long processing rabbits. They have hollow hairs, and anything less than razor sharp tends to roll the hair instead of cutting. I thought the opinel would be cheap enough to sharpen to death, but it wasn't necessary. It's in the same condition it was 35 years ago. Very fine grain

      @knifecenter  3 ปีที่แล้ว

No worries Amar! As I understand it, and according to Boker's website (www.boker.de/en/knife-law), a knife can be one-hand opening, or locking, but not both. Here is Boker's explanation: "Knives that can be "opened and locked with one hand" are knives that have a device for opening with one hand and a blade lock. If a knife has only one of these features, it is not affected by § 42a." -DCA

Flipper alternatives to CS Recon 1?
Question: I really like the contoured handle on the Cold Steel Recon 1 it fits my hand perfectly and gives a secure grip. As I live in a cold climate (Sweden) I also appreciated that the handle is G10 as metal handles gets uncomfortably when it is cold. But the Recon 1 is not a flipper. Cold you recommend any flipper alternatives with the same type of handle?

I'd go with the Opinel (preferably in carbon steel, for the food prep guy). Keep it clean and a light coating of the oil they use on Japanese knives (camellia?) I love the Opinels for lightness of weight and keep one as a spare in my possible pouch in the day pack and back pack. Can't beat the price or the history either. About the only thing to complain about is no pocket clip. Not that that would even be a good idea!

Hey David , I would like your advice on a topic I personally have never heard anyone talk about , and that’s size of knife to size of person ratio. I’m in the market for a good, general purpose fixed blade. Now I like bruiser knives as much as the next knifenut, but where someone pro wrestler size might be ok carrying say a tops steel eagle or esse junglas for example, someone like myself ( male, 5’8 and around 180lbs) might be better off with something more “realistic “? Any thoughts and/or advice? Thanks in advance!!

  • @jerrybobteasdale

A quick way to test sharpness is to perpendicularly tap the edge into your fingernail, and try to drag the blade sideways. A sharp knife will stick rather than slide easily. Cutting newspaper or telephone book paper is what I usually do.

I normally use a pm2 for work due to the blade profile with the pointy tip and ability to open and close it with gloves on. What else do you recommend for hard use folding work knives? I work in hvac/r, so I might be reaming the burr off the inside of a copper pipe, cutting foam insulation or scraping a valve gasket off.

Hi, DCA and the rest of the knowledgeable people reading this. I see a lot of axis lock clones because the patent ran out. Was wondering about Spyderco's compression lock. Will we ever see that lock on other brands? Thanking you all in advance.

Looking to see a list of modern knives inspired by traditional designs from across world history, e.g. kukri, puukko, kudu, duk duk, peshkabz, kawah, etc. there is a lot history to choose from, I leave that to your discretion and interest.

I’m looking for a small knife with a wharncliffe blade shape, a hollow grind and a high edge retaining powder steel. Something along the lines of CS Tuff Lite but with upgrades materials. For whomever asked the sharpness test question: you can lay the edge of your knife gently (really gently) on your thumbnail, and rock it side to side. If it bites and stays in place your edge is sharp enough for most tasks, if it skates around it needs sharpening.

By way of a question, for some years now, I've included a large pair of nail clippers in my EDC, and have found them to be almost shockingly useful. Nevertheless, my clippers are pretty generic stuff picked up at the local drugstore or even dollar store, and I've been wondering if there are more EDC-dedicated options. I know Victorinox has a clipper-based tool, but are there others that might be worth checking out?
