  • Hands on with my GOAT multitool. Slow paced (sorry) discussion of some of its features, and some potential short comings.

      Yeah it takes quite a while for these to arrive in the UK it seems so, during that time I have checked out your videos too!
      Fan of the fork!
      I do night shifts at work sometimes, something like could come in handy when I come across a snack :p
      At some point I may need to figure something like that out

    I just received mine, i agree about substituting can opener for reamer. I used a couple 2MM wrenches to loosen small tools to reduce clumping. Personally i see tremendous opportunity with creating other tools and accessories to place in it.

    👍🏼good vid. I got that leatherman for my wife. :) It is a very good little tool. No embarrassment needed. :) I use it sometimes. It was perfect to fix my dryer one time. Other pliers would not fit. I’m loving my goat. I greatly improved my wire cutters. I have a big playlist on everything I’m experiencing.

      Right yeah, I actually have seen some of your videos, I remember seeing that someone chopped the top of the knife off!
      I'll have a look through your videos, see if I can find what you did with the cutters.
      Did you see my other video from today, adding swiss army knife tweezers?

    great video thanks. I love mine (UK non locking) but I've now ordered the can opener as I feel the pointed locking AWL is problematic regarding S139.. 'sharply pointed' so i'll swap it for the can opener cheers

    Thanks for the review. I am building an EDC kit and am lacking a 1/4 inch driver solution. I may use pliers occasionally. I have a nice folding knife that is UK legal and is made from decent steel, so a blade in the multi-tool is a low priority. I do want a bottle opener. I have had Victorianox tools since about 1978 and am happy with them. I have to admit that I have only used a Victorianox can opener once in all that time. I have dulled several pairs of Victorianox scissors though so they are a priority. I am left handed. I have been looking at the GOAT as they offer UK legal unlocked blades, but have also been looking at the Roxon tools. Bearing in mind the retail price, would I be better off to go down the Roxon route and just throw away the blade, or should I spend more on the GOAT and think longer term? One other small thing. I think that in reality most of the screws I would encounter these days would be on the smaller side and I may be better off with a micro bit driver solution.

    • @tristan2531
      @tristan2531  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I think you can get micro bit-adapters on amazon.
      In relation to which you should get, that's really hard to say, personally I still carry the GOAT every day, but I need to tighten the hex nuts quite often...especially because I sometimes fidget with the knife and pliers, opening and closing them, which loosens the system.
      The tool is great because you can customize it, and I support the idea of being able to do that...but it does feel like a prototype

      @brianpage1886 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@tristan2531 Thanks for the information. I could opt for the GOAT, which has a good 1/4 inch driver, which is my first priority (I already have endless bits). I have seen videos of people modifying the Roxon for UK carry, but I don't want to go down that road, so another reason to opt for the GOAT. The hobby blade would be useful as well. Try some Locktite on your screws. The knife I just purchased uses Locktite straight from the factory. There are many grades to choose from. Just make sure that you select one that is not permanent or you will need a propane torch to take your knife apart. Try 221 or 222. Both are low strength and designed for quick disassembly.

    I recommend you don't flick open the pliers. I do this with most of my multi-tools but I don't believe it's safe with the GOAT (at least not mine). As my GOAT has been used and the tools have smoothed out, regardless of how tight I keep the screws I can get the tools to slightly pop out then pop back in if I flick the tool. If the blade were to partially deploy as you butterflied open the handles, it would bite right into the backs of your fingers. Especially dangerous if you have the precision utility blade installed. Another risk is that clumping can cause the disassembly lever to follow the tool that opens, so with a hard enough flick you could send your blade flying at someone. In testing, with the right motion, I can very consistently get an entire handle's tools to fully deploy and the locking lever to disengage with just a swift flick of a wrist. Never had a tool actually fall out but the tolerances will loosen more and more as it gets used.

    • @tristan2531
      @tristan2531  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Yeah, you're right, I've noticed a bit of this, I'm constantly testing flicking it and shaking it etc. My lever, it's quite tough to open fully, and the tools never open fully with a flick (still not good though) I think maybe... Maybe, the extra washers in-between tighten things up a bit.

    • @tristan2531
      @tristan2531  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Just tested it now, giving it a proper swing, at the moment, the side with my scissors on, can flip tools almost completely open if given an intentional flick.
      The side with my knife on however, does not open at all.
      It could just be a difference in machining or something, but it could also be, the amount of washers I've squashed together on the knife side.

    Would locking blade be illegal in UK, even tho it's under 3 inches??

    • @tristan2531
      @tristan2531  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yes, the cutting edge needs to be under 3 inches plus being readily foldable at all times.
      If you feel like knowing exactly why:
      The Criminal Justice act of 1988, section 139 describes the illegality of carrying a knife in public, however subsection 2 (of section 139) exempts folding pocket knives:
      "Subject to subsection (3) below, this section applies to any article which has a blade or is sharply pointed except a folding pocketknife."
      Subsection 3 says, that if it's longer than 3 inches however it is not exempt:
      "This section applies to a folding pocketknife if the cutting edge of its blade exceeds 3 inches."
      Then case law unfortunately (Harris vs DPP 1993) determined that a locking knife does not count as a folding pocket knife either.

      @@tristan2531 Have you added washers to your multitool for the 4 outside tools (scissors, hobby blade, knife and saw) to stop other tools coming out with them? I cut my finger yesterday on hobby blade, after getting scissors out, because hobby blade was sticking out abit.

    • @tristan2531
      @tristan2531  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@user-uj5nd6kx8e Yes, clumping is an issue with the base tool, but having added several of these tiny washers between the outside tools and the inside ones, they now open without affecting each other. It took a bit of time to get the right tightness too, i.e
      making sure tools don't flop out, but also allowing it to be opened with one hand
