  • In This video I list some of the multi tool options for UK legal carry. As the UK has strict knife laws that forbids carrying a knife with a locking blade, here is a list of some of the multi tools that are legal to carry.
Side Note, For some reason I called the Gerber MP600 the Smith and Wesson M and P 500, which is a hand gun.

Genuinely brilliant video. Very much considering the gerber 600, love the matt Black, all the tools I need, yeah would miss the blade, but everything I would use a blade for, I could use the saw. Thanks mate!

I'm 72 and never been stopped and searched in my life, I carry whatever seems appropriate for the day, I avoid rough areas and rough people and don't make an exhibition of myself.

That's the best way to do it honestly, tho I've been stopped many times, not that I had Done anything. I think they are trying to find a problem in my opinion.

Good review and overview, liked and finally subscribed to your channel after watching a number of other quality uploads from you. I am currently building up a collection of UK friendly EDC options. I go for Victorinox for blades and scissors, so I always carry a Classic, basically if I am not undressed in bed or the shower it's always in my coin or other pocket. On my keychain I carry a Farmer or Hiker, I don't need a saw blade in everyday urban life but I just like to have one on me. As for multitools, I just got a SOG microclip for it's pliers and of course I like to have a backup blade or three on me (one is none, two are one). I would really like a LM as they have an almost cult-like following but in all fairness I can't find one which fits my needs. The Squirt is just too dinky for me and I prefer my SOG. The larger LMs are mostly not legal UK carry, okay I don't just have legal carry blades and tools as I take a fixed blade when I go into the woods, but at the pricepoints of the Wave etc I think I'd rather get a Swisstool.
The next acquisition I'm eyeing now is the Gerber MP600 bladeless which you showed. I could get a LM Rebar bladeless for a couple of quid less...but what swings it for me in favour of the MP600 is the fact that this is the preferred multitool of the US military, and imho equipment which is tried and tested by serious armed forces (i.e. US, Canada, British, German, Dutch, Swedish, Finnish etc.) is bombproof and reliable. My bushcraft equipment (all kinds of stuff like bashas/ponchos, canteens & cups, mess tins, stoves and so on) consists of a lot of kit from those armed forces and has stood up extremely well.

Glad to have you as a subscriber. I still find multi tools for edc to be a headache, I don't like the idea of carrying a multi tool without a blade l, even though I can still carry a separate knife, the leatherman juice models are great,as are most older non locking multi tools, although I have modified some of my locking multi tools so the blades don't lock.

@@scotsman7626 Thanks for replying. I've seen a couple of your vids on modifying the blades on LMs. I always EDC 2 SAKs as I said, even just going across the road to buy a loaf of bread, because the Classic is always in my pocket, and a larger SAK is always on my keychain. A multitool is something I put in a bag/pouch with puncture repair kit, pump etc when I go to work or elsewhere on my bike.

I know what you mean about Gerber because their lower priced models are made in China, but this one is made in the USA. I like both of them, however what swings it for me is the fact that the Gerber MP600 (with knife) is the preferred multitool of the US military....I like army issue kit. They're both actually about the same price here in the UK. Also looking at the knifeless Rebar, it does have a pointy stabby awl which is locking so could be a prob. Plus the file doesn't look as good, the Phillips is kinda 2D, and there are only 2 flatheads. For those reasons I'm going to buy the MP600 knifeless which I'm going to carry in conjunction with a Victorinox Farmer for the blade, awl and woodsaw, plus a dinky little Classic in my coin pocket. That combination provides me with all functions I need, with all tools being excellent quality, tried and tested designs.

Hi, I currently own a rebar with knifes and would be bringing it over to the UK from Germany. If I had a reason to carry it (Army use) would that be okay?

the good reason has the justified all the time, so why do you have this knife...im on my way to the woods with my camping stuff to go camping....or I am going hunting right now I am on route now my guns in the boot.

@@clarky4492 A lot of people get caught out, for example a carpet fitter leaving his truck to walk into a house to cut carpet can be carrying a knife in a toolbelt as he has good reason to carry it, however if that person pops out to subway for a sandwich and forgets the knife is in his pocket and is stopped they are in breach and are committing an office, it is correct that it must be justified with good reason at all times, if not, leave it in a tool bag.

The Micra is on shaky ground as UK EDC legal IMO, the blade does not fully meet the requirements of S.139 as laid out in Harris vs DPP, it could be construed as a (poor) locking blade.

I'm in the exact same boat. Really can't fathom why Leatherman discontinued it, it really hit the sweet spot in my opinion. I've had the Nextool Flagship Mini recommended to me, seems like a really good tool but it is essentially a keychain tool. Barely larger than the Leatherman Squirt. The SOG Powerpint and Powerlitre are the right size but all the tools are locking so not UK-legal. I've got a Leatherman Bond but it's too big to take absolutely everywhere and it doesn't have scissors. Massive gap in the market rn unfortunately

    • @scotsman7626
      @scotsman7626  5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

As far as I'm aware, yes, but the scissors could be a bit of a grey area, that's the problem with the law's in the UK, it might be seen as a fixed or locking blade. For me however it's always on my keys, I can't see it being an issues other than that odd policeman that's having a bit day.

@@name5949 I couldn't say, I will recommend you learn your rights, you actually don't need to talk to the police, truth be told they don't know what's in your pocket unless you tell them, and they can't search you just because they feel like it. They need grounds.
Have a read at this, this is official as its straight from the government.
      www.gov.uk/arrested-your-rights
I haven't been stopped for a while, last time was during the first summer lockdown, just out cycling, I had my leatherman Surge in my back to deal with my bicycle, they didn't have a clue, not that I was doing anything I shouldn't, in fact I didn't awnser any questions because I don't have to, didn't even give them my name, still I was polite and respectfull, I think that's what matters.
Some police would take a victorinox classic of you if they are having a bad day, not that they have the power to do that.
Can't remember if I told you or not but when I was 17 they did stop and search me (didn't know my rights) and I did have my swiss champ, wasn't a problem.
In my opinion you should be fine with the bond, it doesn't have a locking mechanism, it's less the 3 inches at the cutting edge, and to be really honest even if it was locking the police would be a right prick to take a leatherman off someone.
I don't know about you, but I still fall into the category of "youth" and haven't had any trouble, in the 8 or so years I've been into knives, that includes EDC knives, having a lock multi tool while cycling, having a 5 inch fixed blade in the woods, right up having a machete and axe in my bag on the bus in in college, to use in the college woodland as part of the course. Never been a problem. 🙂

The none locking rule for these tools is stupid it puts more risk on the user as the blade could close onto the fingers of the user they restrict the length as it is. you can remove the lock on the Leatherman but you need the security Torx driver with the hollow point put a small plate across the locking spring plate holding it down which stops it engaging
