Try to do break -> topple -> launch -> Smash combinations during chain attacks. It's pretty satisfying when you push damage to 800% and then push in a Smash attack that will be 800% damage * whatever multiplier the smash attack do. I took down like haft the HP from a boss right away this way. And yeah you don't have to push the chain attack to 5th round ending with Uroboros but it's pretty satisfying seeing that XP multiplier (max 1000%) going up after you overkilled your enemy. It's also a good way to get additional CP for maxing out different classes. :)
I consider all of the Xenoblade games masterpieces. Even though they all have flaws in their own ways, these games give me an experience that I have not experienced with anything else. A sense of awe and wonder, making me feel excited to roam around everywhere and discover everything to see, and being enthralled by the story being unfolded, not knowing where the journey will take me, and still being amazed at what they do in the final hours of the game. And when I've done everything I can, I just want to do it all again.
British voice acting is always the best, sounds more natural, not sure if it's down to the way British actors are trained, but I always enjoy it more. Nice to hear it in this game.
What I LOVE about this game is the total lack of grinding. Normally in an RPG, you have to beat useless enemies for hours before you can progress, but just keeping up with side quests and killing creatures as you run is enough to keep you at the same level as the boss enemies. It makes the pacing of the game so good - you don't have to pause the story at any point. I'm also thoroughly in love with Noah - he's so cute! Also, I want a Manana amiibo please...
That's the beauty of jrpg "grinding" for many hours just to lvl up, master skills and probably pick up some decent items to aid you in your journey.. uhh kids these days just want everything to be easy and fast.. 😅
@@dhadzloco6550 yeah, plus there aren't many jrpgs that actually required grinding. Misunderstood games like most of the DQ games and especially Shin Megami Tensei we're actually just really challenging, but very doable without grinding. Grinding was just to make things easier. Although there are a bunch of jrpgs that required grinding just to be playable. I can't think of them right now.. maybe bravely default?
Except for Consul J on hard. Was 10 levels higher than that fat b*tch and he whooped my @$$, had to drop it to normal to get past him specifically so I didn't have to grind.
Great review! :) The only thing I HEAVILY disagree on is that the draw distance is anything but impressive considering the system that XC3 is running on. Any Switch game I personally know with big open areas like these (like e. g. BotW, Dragon Quest 11S and ESPECIALLY Pokémon Legends Arceus) pales in comparison to how far into the distance even some regular enemies are rendered in Xenoblade 3. Sure there's still pop-in at times, but often there's more enemies on screen at the same time than in any of those games (sometimes up to like 15 or upwards), and still you can see some of them multiple kilometers into the distance. And yeah, there's compromises in this regard like some frames being skipped on the ones that are further away (which then run on like 20FPS), but in the case of this game I think it's clear why they had to do that (unlike Pokémon where the frames dropped to like 10 FPS when a Gyarados was like 20 metres away even if it was the only Pokémon in sight). I'm really impressed by what they achieved in this regard. Again, great video, just wanted to bring in my opinion on this aspect :)
Thank you Ircha so much for this deep dive. My son is getting older and I am looking for a teen JRPG to start his journey outside western RPG. This review has made up my mind on Xenoblade 3. His Switch has been neglected for Game Pass and PS5 and so I dearly hope I can get him back onto the Switch this year with the up and coming Zelda, Xenoblade 3, Astra Chain and finally Ni No Kuni. All these titles are from videos I have watched from your review takes and I am very glad to have found your channel as you have quickly become my go to for everything Nintendo.
This is my first Xenoblade Chronicles, I'm on my 80 hours and mostly I spent more time exploring than the main quest and I love how you review this game, how you represent this game. Hopefully more people will play this game!

This is my first Xenoblade game and I'm about 13 hours in and loving it! I love how beginner-friendly it is and the story is absolutely incredible. Great review as always!
I could say a lot that I don't like about the game I will probably just say a few for now. 1: The game stutters when there is either a crit attack or a change in aggro, I think it also stutters for other reasons can't remember what it was though. I find this really annoying and not fluent it feels like there is frame drops. 2: Its lost its sex appeal xenoblade 2 has. 3: The character designs aren't as good as the rare blades in xenoblade 2 4: There is no mechs you can use to fly around jump and transform into land vehicle and pilot around a large open world. To make exploration more fun! 5: The graphics aren't upgraded they just look the same as all the others. 6: It's not open world 7: I'm spending too much time in my inventory changing class and re-equipping per accessories, gems, arts etc.. per class as well. 8: You cannot control or customize your addon hero! 9: The outfits clothes are boring and cleaning is a silly waste of time game mechanic when it should have been armor damage instead, then I would understand clean/fix clothes otherwise dust and dirt should automatically fade when you jump in the water, or when it rains. 10: the game pauses when blowing the whistle for dead people on the world, pauses are annoying. 11: Items on the map make me zig zag and retrace steps to collect items as they are scattered all over and makes you go out of your way to waste time with this. 12: Keep forgetting who's what class and in chain attack doesn't display your class so can accidently make mistake and use the wrong skills if going by the characters appearance. 13: Healers keep ressurecting the same player even if 4 die and are all huddled up around that one dead player ready for easy picking for the enemy to aoe them all. 14: Combat arena's are small and getting knocked out of bounds causes the elite to unspawn and reset. 15: Can't resurrect outside of a healer class unless you equip an item, once mastered the healer class that should already give you the ability to resurrect dead players, but it doesn't because its stupid. 16: You can easily over level way passed the storyline's recommended level and makes the main storyline super easy even on hard mode, you cannot de-level. 17: Putting the game on hard mode should net you rewards, such as rare equipment higher drop rates of better gear and items and materials and quantity. Currently there is virtually no different in hard mode and normal mode. So why should I waste time on hard mode if its not even harder? Its just higher hp on enemies and they do a bit more damage to you and you do less damage to them wasting time overall cause the outcome is the same. 18: Overkill time wasting- During chain attacks you can't skip skill attacks, and overkill enemy and its not a good idea to waste time for minutes after overkill just to get extra exp and make the game too easy to over level, and gets boring because chain attacks are too long and time waste with the same boring attacks. I don't find it interesting to overkill an enemy with repeated attacks such a bit time waste that makes you not want to skip it just for the bonus %, at least the music is good in this mode though. 19: You can't move and attack at the same time like you can in Xenoblade Chronicles X 20: The characters keep repeating the same voices on the world map it gets old and annoying there isn't much viariety in voice dialogue. Ok I'm sure I can find more flaws in the game did I miss anything? The best in the series is Xenoblade Chronicles X then 1 then 2 then 3 it just got worse after X. Though I praise 2 for having a smashing amount of cool/sexy designed characters with best storyline out of all the Xenoblades overall. Damn Jin you poor sob. Lastly want to note these aren't just personal preferences they are also preferences that would have made the game much much better.

The stutters that you say feel like frame drops is something known as "hit stop" and is intentional. It's commonly used in games to differentiate heavy impact attacks (just one example). Also, you can customize your heroes later on. Most of these are just personal preference though. Each game has it's own combat system with their own limitations to keep some semblance of balance. If they applied some of the changes you want it would make certain intended elements useless. Like having everyone able to revive would nerf the healer class without any tradeoffs to other classes(losing an accessory slot). If you're having trouble with AOE that's why they have certain ouroboros arts like "defend all" and "revive all". A lot of people also didn't like the hypersexualized designs of some of xeno 2 characters or how the art direction was all over the place with the character designs in general. With how they scaled back on all that with Torna, Future Connected, and now Xenoblade 3 it's safe to say that Xenoblade 2 was the outlier and not the blueprint for the series going forward.
@@sentoworf The only reason xenoblade 3 sold well is because it was carried by Xenoblade 2 as a sequel because there are xenoblade 2 connection in the game won't say anything incase it spoils it. Xenoblade 3 is overrated trust me on that, I will say though its way better than Tales of Arise. Everyone liked Xenoblade 2 character all except Rex lol and especially the Blades I can't stress enough how cool and sexy those blades look, even the guys and I normally hate males but Zeke (although not a blade still cool) and Corvin which is a blade is very cool and powerful, just so many cool blades and the heroes in xenoblade 3 are just mediocre and you can't even control them lmao... sorry Xenoblade 3 is a fail game, i played it all day today and found that I really was repeating so many moves and chain attacks 10 minutes passed the enemies expiry date still hitting on a dead enemy, talk about overkill with the same moves that aren't even that cool to look at and are unskippable. I also only liked a few outfits in Xenoblade 3 the rest were shit.. Not to mention how fucking slow it is to run around the world map, Its a chore to play this game seriously.
Played this game for 110hrs. and I haven't done all sidequests, yet. Those hours flew by quickly. Same for XBC2, which I played for around 140hrs. I really hope they continue with the series, like Final Fantasy.

Recently found and subscribed to your channel after buying my first Switch (2 months ago). Thanks for the discount code but I opted to buy the physical copy from Amazon at 7% discount as I write this. It's ironic that I prefer physical vrs digital for this console (Nintendo) when most of my PS purchases have been downloads from the PS store. What I really appreciate about you is your honest opinion about the games you recommend. You play the game, sometimes it's entirety, before recommending it. This makes you "top shelf" as to what I might consider to purchase, as these games ain't cheap. So, At 64, I've never played a Xenoblade game. Even with the shortcomings you mentioned, I purchased it. That's the trust I have in your recommendations. I even bought the official Xenoblade controller for 103.00 US. Great channel. I started to play xenoblade games only after release of the third one. I just started xenoblade 3. I am chapter 2. I am at last boss in torna. Still have not experienced future connected. I am lucky I have a friend who likes to grind games so when we are able to play i will let him finnish the sidequests in torna. Xenoblade 2 is one of my all tlme favourite games now. Third one seems to be even better. I never play support or tank in games but in xenoblade 3 i actually play tank because i feel i can keep the aggro better than ai.
I finished XC3 with all sidequests done about three weeks after release clocking in 170 hours on normal mode. So yea, this game is massive - but that's expected from a Xenoblade main line game. While the game is gorgeous and I'd recommend it to everyone, I agree to most of your criticism. It brings the switch to its technical limits and chain attacks do actually get tedious mid-late-game. They are also a bit broken gameplay-wise, since they deal so much damage. The only other detail which bugged me was the menu music. It always stops overworld songs which I find very irritating - no other games do this, so why?

I bought this game day one and its been AMAZING!!! Its' the 2nd Xenoblade game i've played. (I've played XBC1) I don't have XBC2 or Torna but after all i've been hearing about it, i'm going to pick it up. I'm currently about 100 hours into XBC3 but only on chapter 5. I've been taking my time. LOVE this game so much.!! Thanks for the awesome review!!
I wasn't sure if I liked it at first. ( and I love all the xenoblade games) until I realized that alot of stuff you have to unlock by getting to certain points in the game. I'm 15 hours in and I'm hooked!!
Aw Irene I can't believe you didn't give this a 10/10 lol. Yes I admit I think I preferred the graphics in XC2, because to me they were more colourful but it has so many elements that are just perfect. I had to turn the voices off again though as I just couldn't handle them constantly chattering 😂
Really?? Early in the game I did a side quest to find items for a dehydrated NPC and it took me 30 minutes of pointless wandering. Most boring side quest I have ever encountered in my gaming life. I’m starting to think everyone is under a spell when judging this game
Very well done review! There is a lot to explain about this game. I’m in the last chapter and 60h in, and I agree with everything you said. I also play mostly handheld and had to get used to the blurriness. It was distracting early on, but the storytelling in the game is really what kept me playing. SO MANY cutscenes showing interesting characters, I’m very impressed. The story is very well told, and even side quests are interesting to do. The other minor negatives I would add to your review are: 1) my game crashed crashed a lot, like 5-6 times throughout exploration, sometimes I lost 30min of gameplay to redo. 2) I wish the Hard mode would be rewarded with more experience or loot. As I explored a lot I quickly became overpowered in the main story and so I’ve switched to Hard sometimes. But I find the Hard mode takes too long for each battle, for no additional reward.

I know one thing I went through hell trying to get that special edition and I just said forget it. That's the last time I ever buy something exclusive through Nintendo's website that's for sure, but overall I just bought the standard edition and I say yes it's worth buying. I like the idea that, years from now, when this game has been remastered for a newer console, people will happen upon this old video and find it interesting that these are the graphics we used to be limited to if we wanted to play this game.
Nintendo might have had Switch Pro in the works, but "only" a Switch Oled eventually came out (maybe X3 was originally aimed to run on a Switch Pro that never got released, so they had to work around and ended up making run blurry on the Switch)
Recently purchased a Switch OLED. (I am typically a PC gamer.) So far, I have bought Bravely Default 2, Tokyo Mirage Sessions FE, and Mary Skelter 2. XBC seems like an interesting series. Do you have to play them in order, or is it ok to jump into XBC3 from the start?
Up to you, the 3 games are linked. Playing the first 2 will let you appreciate the world/story more. But the games are long and time consuming, which can be a problem for some and a boon for others 😄 Personally I played 1&2 before 3 and don't regret it.
the xenoblade series absolutely blew up in popularity. a bnew torna physical copy is going $80. double of its srp. not bad for a 3yr old game. apparently it only had a single print run
I bought the digital copy for the prime reason of hoping that when the Switch 2 comes out sometime in 2025 it will have the graphical rendering abilities and I hope larger screen to play this game much better than our current Nintendo Switch. These current graphics are at least 30 years behind what a PC offers. I don't need them to be up to date, but seriously perhaps ten yours would be a much bigger boost. Xbox and PS5. Nintendo is pretty well known not to be backwards compatible with their older game systems, so buying more games on a cartridge that will most likely be utterly useless on the future Nintendo Switch 2, it seems for now to just go digital and let Nintendo make us pay more. I had to upgrade my Micro SD and got a sweet deal on a 1TB for $80 bucks on Amazon. Crazy to see how 64gigs just doesn't cut it anymore. I really do enjoy this game. I hope it will be even a better experience on the newer system. Thank you for the review. I have never played this type of game style before I’m 43 and kind of new to gaming I have seen many videos on the Xenoblade games but I must say it is something about the way you explain this game and others that make me want to rush out and grab them I’m actually going to grab all of them as I want to start with the first one thanks
Yeah this game is amazing. I'm a little bit torn about deducting a point due to something the developer literally has zero agency over in this case, like its a Switch game, there is nothing they could have done about the "blurry" graphics at all in this case, quite the contrary this game is insanely impressive for how it manages to squeeze literally everything out of the hardware its running on
The uncovering map part is great, the (minor spoilers ahead) Uncovering the sea has been a few hours of my gameplay, still not close to actually uncovering it all, but it's a very soothing gameplay element for sure

I mever had issues owht blurriness or stutters in dock This game has a bug which causes the game to peeform poorly after being played for hours without being closed so make sure you close it everytime you stop playing
What I find interesting is you hate the chain attack. I LOVE them. I try to get as high damage as possible. You get exp bonuses and you run it so high and it has the satisfaction of running a high score in an arcade game.
I'm heavily addicted to Exploring; I'm over 50 hours and only on chapter 3. The thing I like about the chain attacks is trying to beat your previous high total damage record lol. The stuttering bothers me more than the graphics, but it's a Nintendo Switch not an Xbox or PC.
Never TV:s or mClassic cleans up the game pretty well. All new TV:s sorta upscales games to 4K quite well, I use the Sony a80j and it also got an additional feature called reality creation that will make rooks and stuff look more realistic (I use 45%). For me Xenoblade is super sharp and down right gorgeous on my TV, just a little tip for anyone thinking about upgrading their TV set.
Funny, because I've been playing XB3 with headphones since the beginning, and I would've never thought that certain songs would be quieter. I need to get back in and wrap up Ch. 6, but I just got NIS Classics Vol. 3 and may have taken an accidental detour... My main 2 gripes with this otherwise great game is 1: Lack of item sorting, ESPECIALLY with a frequently growing inventory, and 2: Voice direction. I LOVE the voice talent in the game, make no mistake- I always look forward to it in any Xenoblade game- but the delivery of the vast majority of the lines in this game feels like they were just reading a script, or just took the first take? I dunno, but there are many situations where the dialogue spoken didn't come off as realistic for the situation given. It's been this was since XB2, and I'm very concerned.

I look forward to playing it, based on the great things you and others have said about it. Glad to also know about its flaws.
Can you, like in XCX, have a separate "visual" equipment from the one that determines your stats? I often really don't like the looks of the best gear in rpg's, but prefer some of the more silly options without losing the stats of the better gear. I randomly remember looking like a carrot in Fantasy Life on 3ds, no way would I prefer a heroic armour VISUALLY over a carrot suit.
After playing the first Xenoblade on handheld mode for the first time, I vowed to myself to always play any Xenoblade game in docked mode. Lmao. I just can't stand how blurry it gets in handheld.

Story and characters are beautiful and the gameplay is awesome, but the graphics „switch“ from beautiful with shimmering lights on water and precious sundowners to blurry chaos and looking terrible (especially im combat ..) … Well… It still is so much fun … I need to admit it … 😂
What's funny is Erick Landon RPG is the only person in the world to beat the game as fast as he did. Like I'm talking mere days. He doesn't do side quest, classes or job system, plays on the easiest difficulties for all jrpgs and also cries about getting lost in open world like games. Thankfully it seems she actually took her time with the game and therefore I will be taking this review seriously

They do have low res textures because Nintendo will not allow first party games to exceed 16gb. So, Monolith had to use low res textures, or reduce the variety in the world. The hardware isn’t what is holding it back.
I’ve been trying to get thru 2 for forever. My ADHD, the. I’m at sucking for the first third or so, and the embarrassing character models of many of the Blades put me off. I eventually fell in love with the rest of the game, tho, once I forced myself to try and beat it before 3. Then my completionist tendencies kicked in. XC2, if you try to do most of the stuff, is loooong. I’ve got 300 hours in and I just got to what I thought would be the end… but isn’t even close to the end! Not to mention I kinda want to play the expansion, Torna the Golden Country. Also what I’ve learned thru playing (hell from just looking at the box art for 3!) is that these games are more connected than people tell you. I started on 2, bc ppl all said you didn’t need to play one first. That was probably true before, but now I want to know everything that happened in 1 before I go and see why the giant Titan from 1 is chopping in half poor Uraya! At this rate I wont get to 3 for like another year!

You’re a better person than me. I’ve actually started holding off buying some Switch games because the low resolution, severe pop-in, and pathetic frame rates really hamper my enjoyment of the games. A lot of these games I won’t ever play unless they release a more powerful console with backwards compatibility. It’s a shame because there’s a lot of really fun sounding games, but in reality they’re just a blurry stuttering mess. I’m not even a graphics snob, just a performance snob. I’d happily play XC3 with less eye candy if it was a constant 720p / 1080p 60fps.
Xenoblade Chronicles 3 is my all time favorite game, i can't believe I am just now watching your review on this game for the first time....i haven't noticed stuttering while playing docked but i absolutely refuse to play this game handheld because it is sooooo blurry handheld even on the OLED! It's a shame cause i prefer to play my Switch games handheld

Hmm i like this game better than the last two ones but i didnt like the class grinding that much it was such a pain to max my classes as soon as i get them and there is no level down until the post game
Witcher 3 is a bit “muddy” on switch, and I know the feel when you’re trying to sell a game and it stutters or becomes slushy, like it makes you look bad lol. But I think people’s expectations around the switch are so low to begin with they’ll be more impressed the game looks as good as it does

I am blown away by them and I keep saying to my friend "I can't believe this is on the Switch. I don't know how they did it!" Granted yes, it's not as good as a PS5 etc but it still looks incredible! Also I haven't played it handheld myself, I think this is the culprit for you maybe? It looks absolutely incredible on my TV. I have barely noticed this "blurryness" you mention and it rarely ever stuters. It loses some FPS sometimes in bigger zones, cough cough The sea zone. Other than this, again I am so impressed how it runs. OMG though, the size lol, I still haven't finished it. Been playing since release and I am 87 hours and only on chapter 6 hehe
You do know the Wii Wii U and Switch all have the same graphics nothings to change no better gameplay as you see on Xbox and PlayStation consoles if Nintendo had achievements I would of bought the game for the achievements as I did for so many other games like resident evil 5 but since Nintendo doesn’t have achievements I say buy the game once not twice

I borrowed & tried to get into XENOBLADE 2 when it first came out then again about a year ago but I couldn’t. Pacing kinda slow, main characters kinda meh & kiddish outside of Mia & I couldn’t completely relate to them, didn’t find them interesting from some of their designs to their personality. and furthermore I’m not a fan of “Auto-Battle” style in open world of games. I’m more turn base and hack n slash style gamer. I didn’t want to spent $60 on a game to essentially play itself. Then knowing how many hours I must sit through at that particular time in my life. I was like nah so I just watched all cutscenes on TH-cam. And it kept me interested enough to give another go. When XBC3 got announced I was interested in the characters, visuals etc. but still wasn’t sold. Ironically I went to pick it up physical copy on release day but sold out everywhere in town. Started playing XBC2 again got bored. I just so happen to shopping @ Walmart and there it was the last copy of XBC3! I bought it a 5days ago & have put it down since! Damn XBC3 is a great game! Within 10hrs of gameplay you’re already in AWW of the World, Story, Cast, Game Controls, Tutorials! Gotta Save The Best For Last.... MUSIC OMG THE PAUSE MENU THEME MUSIC IS BEST MENUE THEME MUSIC OF ALL TIME WTAF AM I LISTENING TO??? 🥰🥰🥰😍😍😍 I literally just sit edit my team just for the music. The music in this game game is phenomenally astounding XBC3 Top5 Switch Games

And yeah you don't have to push the chain attack to 5th round ending with Uroboros but it's pretty satisfying seeing that XP multiplier (max 1000%) going up after you overkilled your enemy. It's also a good way to get additional CP for maxing out different classes. :)

I consider all of the Xenoblade games masterpieces. Even though they all have flaws in their own ways, these games give me an experience that I have not experienced with anything else. A sense of awe and wonder, making me feel excited to roam around everywhere and discover everything to see, and being enthralled by the story being unfolded, not knowing where the journey will take me, and still being amazed at what they do in the final hours of the game. And when I've done everything I can, I just want to do it all again.
The 3ds version was almost uplayable for me :( i tried to like it but i felt like it was a huge GRAINY mess
This game is a 10/10 for me. Its my first jrpg and first xenoblade. I had to buy all the games after I beat this

British voice acting is always the best, sounds more natural, not sure if it's down to the way British actors are trained, but I always enjoy it more. Nice to hear it in this game.
What I LOVE about this game is the total lack of grinding. Normally in an RPG, you have to beat useless enemies for hours before you can progress, but just keeping up with side quests and killing creatures as you run is enough to keep you at the same level as the boss enemies. It makes the pacing of the game so good - you don't have to pause the story at any point. I'm also thoroughly in love with Noah - he's so cute! Also, I want a Manana amiibo please...
Leveling up at the campsites 😎👍 there hasn't been a need for grinding so far for me.
That's the beauty of jrpg "grinding" for many hours just to lvl up, master skills and probably pick up some decent items to aid you in your journey.. uhh kids these days just want everything to be easy and fast.. 😅
@@dhadzloco6550 yeah, plus there aren't many jrpgs that actually required grinding. Misunderstood games like most of the DQ games and especially Shin Megami Tensei we're actually just really challenging, but very doable without grinding. Grinding was just to make things easier.
Although there are a bunch of jrpgs that required grinding just to be playable. I can't think of them right now.. maybe bravely default?

The only thing I HEAVILY disagree on is that the draw distance is anything but impressive considering the system that XC3 is running on.
Any Switch game I personally know with big open areas like these (like e. g. BotW, Dragon Quest 11S and ESPECIALLY Pokémon Legends Arceus) pales in comparison to how far into the distance even some regular enemies are rendered in Xenoblade 3.
Sure there's still pop-in at times, but often there's more enemies on screen at the same time than in any of those games (sometimes up to like 15 or upwards), and still you can see some of them multiple kilometers into the distance.
And yeah, there's compromises in this regard like some frames being skipped on the ones that are further away (which then run on like 20FPS), but in the case of this game I think it's clear why they had to do that (unlike Pokémon where the frames dropped to like 10 FPS when a Gyarados was like 20 metres away even if it was the only Pokémon in sight).
I'm really impressed by what they achieved in this regard.

Just finished XC3 last night. Easily my new favorite game on the Switch.
Thank you Ircha so much for this deep dive. My son is getting older and I am looking for a teen JRPG to start his journey outside western RPG. This review has made up my mind on Xenoblade 3. His Switch has been neglected for Game Pass and PS5 and so I dearly hope I can get him back onto the Switch this year with the up and coming Zelda, Xenoblade 3, Astra Chain and finally Ni No Kuni. All these titles are from videos I have watched from your review takes and I am very glad to have found your channel as you have quickly become my go to for everything Nintendo.
140 hours in and still going. finished the main story at the 125 hour mark. side quests just keep popping up. it’s never ending.
I know I just hit the 205 hour mark still so much to do!!
This is my first Xenoblade Chronicles, I'm on my 80 hours and mostly I spent more time exploring than the main quest and I love how you review this game, how you represent this game. Hopefully more people will play this game!

This is my first Xenoblade game and I'm about 13 hours in and loving it! I love how beginner-friendly it is and the story is absolutely incredible. Great review as always!

I could say a lot that I don't like about the game I will probably just say a few for now.
1: The game stutters when there is either a crit attack or a change in aggro, I think it also stutters for other reasons can't remember what it was though. I find this really annoying and not fluent it feels like there is frame drops.
2: Its lost its sex appeal xenoblade 2 has.
3: The character designs aren't as good as the rare blades in xenoblade 2
4: There is no mechs you can use to fly around jump and transform into land vehicle and pilot around a large open world. To make exploration more fun!
5: The graphics aren't upgraded they just look the same as all the others.
6: It's not open world
7: I'm spending too much time in my inventory changing class and re-equipping per accessories, gems, arts etc.. per class as well.
8: You cannot control or customize your addon hero!
9: The outfits clothes are boring and cleaning is a silly waste of time game mechanic when it should have been armor damage instead, then I would understand clean/fix clothes otherwise dust and dirt should automatically fade when you jump in the water, or when it rains.
10: the game pauses when blowing the whistle for dead people on the world, pauses are annoying.
11: Items on the map make me zig zag and retrace steps to collect items as they are scattered all over and makes you go out of your way to waste time with this.
12: Keep forgetting who's what class and in chain attack doesn't display your class so can accidently make mistake and use the wrong skills if going by the characters appearance.
13: Healers keep ressurecting the same player even if 4 die and are all huddled up around that one dead player ready for easy picking for the enemy to aoe them all.
14: Combat arena's are small and getting knocked out of bounds causes the elite to unspawn and reset.
15: Can't resurrect outside of a healer class unless you equip an item, once mastered the healer class that should already give you the ability to resurrect dead players, but it doesn't because its stupid.
16: You can easily over level way passed the storyline's recommended level and makes the main storyline super easy even on hard mode, you cannot de-level.
17: Putting the game on hard mode should net you rewards, such as rare equipment higher drop rates of better gear and items and materials and quantity. Currently there is virtually no different in hard mode and normal mode. So why should I waste time on hard mode if its not even harder? Its just higher hp on enemies and they do a bit more damage to you and you do less damage to them wasting time overall cause the outcome is the same.
18: Overkill time wasting- During chain attacks you can't skip skill attacks, and overkill enemy and its not a good idea to waste time for minutes after overkill just to get extra exp and make the game too easy to over level, and gets boring because chain attacks are too long and time waste with the same boring attacks. I don't find it interesting to overkill an enemy with repeated attacks such a bit time waste that makes you not want to skip it just for the bonus %, at least the music is good in this mode though.
19: You can't move and attack at the same time like you can in Xenoblade Chronicles X
20: The characters keep repeating the same voices on the world map it gets old and annoying there isn't much viariety in voice dialogue.
Ok I'm sure I can find more flaws in the game did I miss anything? The best in the series is Xenoblade Chronicles X then 1 then 2 then 3 it just got worse after X. Though I praise 2 for having a smashing amount of cool/sexy designed characters with best storyline out of all the Xenoblades overall. Damn Jin you poor sob. Lastly want to note these aren't just personal preferences they are also preferences that would have made the game much much better.
You would like Xenoblade Chronicles 1 and 2 better and 3 is kind of a sequel to 2 you would have liked 3 more if you played through 2.

The stutters that you say feel like frame drops is something known as "hit stop" and is intentional. It's commonly used in games to differentiate heavy impact attacks (just one example). Also, you can customize your heroes later on.
Most of these are just personal preference though. Each game has it's own combat system with their own limitations to keep some semblance of balance. If they applied some of the changes you want it would make certain intended elements useless. Like having everyone able to revive would nerf the healer class without any tradeoffs to other classes(losing an accessory slot). If you're having trouble with AOE that's why they have certain ouroboros arts like "defend all" and "revive all".
A lot of people also didn't like the hypersexualized designs of some of xeno 2 characters or how the art direction was all over the place with the character designs in general. With how they scaled back on all that with Torna, Future Connected, and now Xenoblade 3 it's safe to say that Xenoblade 2 was the outlier and not the blueprint for the series going forward.
@@sentoworf The only reason xenoblade 3 sold well is because it was carried by Xenoblade 2 as a sequel because there are xenoblade 2 connection in the game won't say anything incase it spoils it.
Xenoblade 3 is overrated trust me on that, I will say though its way better than Tales of Arise.
Everyone liked Xenoblade 2 character all except Rex lol and especially the Blades I can't stress enough how cool and sexy those blades look, even the guys and I normally hate males but Zeke (although not a blade still cool) and Corvin which is a blade is very cool and powerful, just so many cool blades and the heroes in xenoblade 3 are just mediocre and you can't even control them lmao...
sorry Xenoblade 3 is a fail game, i played it all day today and found that I really was repeating so many moves and chain attacks 10 minutes passed the enemies expiry date still hitting on a dead enemy, talk about overkill with the same moves that aren't even that cool to look at and are unskippable.
I also only liked a few outfits in Xenoblade 3 the rest were shit.. Not to mention how fucking slow it is to run around the world map, Its a chore to play this game seriously.
Played this game for 110hrs. and I haven't done all sidequests, yet. Those hours flew by quickly. Same for XBC2, which I played for around 140hrs. I really hope they continue with the series, like Final Fantasy.

What I really appreciate about you is your honest opinion about the games you recommend. You play the game, sometimes it's entirety, before recommending it. This makes you "top shelf" as to what I might consider to purchase, as these games ain't cheap.

I started to play xenoblade games only after release of the third one. I just started xenoblade 3. I am chapter 2. I am at last boss in torna. Still have not experienced future connected. I am lucky I have a friend who likes to grind games so when we are able to play i will let him finnish the sidequests in torna. Xenoblade 2 is one of my all tlme favourite games now. Third one seems to be even better. I never play support or tank in games but in xenoblade 3 i actually play tank because i feel i can keep the aggro better than ai.
I finished XC3 with all sidequests done about three weeks after release clocking in 170 hours on normal mode. So yea, this game is massive - but that's expected from a Xenoblade main line game.
While the game is gorgeous and I'd recommend it to everyone, I agree to most of your criticism. It brings the switch to its technical limits and chain attacks do actually get tedious mid-late-game. They are also a bit broken gameplay-wise, since they deal so much damage. The only other detail which bugged me was the menu music. It always stops overworld songs which I find very irritating - no other games do this, so why?

(I've played XBC1) I don't have XBC2 or Torna but after all i've been hearing about it, i'm going to pick it up. I'm currently about 100 hours into XBC3 but only on chapter 5. I wasn't sure if I liked it at first. ( and I love all the xenoblade games) until I realized that alot of stuff you have to unlock by getting to certain points in the game. I'm 15 hours in and I'm hooked!!
Aw Irene I can't believe you didn't give this a 10/10 lol. Yes I admit I think I preferred the graphics in XC2, because to me they were more colourful but it has so many elements that are just perfect. I had to turn the voices off again though as I just couldn't handle them constantly chattering 😂

Really?? Early in the game I did a side quest to find items for a dehydrated NPC and it took me 30 minutes of pointless wandering. Most boring side quest I have ever encountered in my gaming life. I’m starting to think everyone is under a spell when judging this game

Very well done review! There is a lot to explain about this game. I’m in the last chapter and 60h in, and I agree with everything you said. I also play mostly handheld and had to get used to the blurriness. It was distracting early on, but the storytelling in the game is really what kept me playing. SO MANY cutscenes showing interesting characters, I’m very impressed. The story is very well told, and even side quests are interesting to do.
The other minor negatives I would add to your review are:
1) my game crashed crashed a lot, like 5-6 times throughout exploration, sometimes I lost 30min of gameplay to redo.
2) I wish the Hard mode would be rewarded with more experience or loot. As I explored a lot I quickly became overpowered in the main story and so I’ve switched to Hard sometimes. But I find the Hard mode takes too long for each battle, for no additional reward.
Long time fan. Though I'm not into RPG's, you are just so mesmerizing... I could watch you review just about anything. Keep up the good work. Your channel is top notch.
Do I have to play the prior Xenos to get a bigger grasp on the story & where it may go in the future.
I know one thing I went through hell trying to get that special edition and I just said forget it. That's the last time I ever buy something exclusive through Nintendo's website that's for sure, but overall I just bought the standard edition and I say yes it's worth buying. I like the idea that, years from now, when this game has been remastered for a newer console, people will happen upon this old video and find it interesting that these are the graphics we used to be limited to if we wanted to play this game.

Nintendo might have had Switch Pro in the works, but "only" a Switch Oled eventually came out (maybe X3 was originally aimed to run on a Switch Pro that never got released, so they had to work around and ended up making run blurry on the Switch)

Recently purchased a Switch OLED. (I am typically a PC gamer.) So far, I have bought Bravely Default 2, Tokyo Mirage Sessions FE, and Mary Skelter 2. XBC seems like an interesting series. Do you have to play them in order, or is it ok to jump into XBC3 from the start?
Up to you, the 3 games are linked. Playing the first 2 will let you appreciate the world/story more. But the games are long and time consuming, which can be a problem for some and a boon for others 😄 Personally I played 1&2 before 3 and don't regret it.

I bought the digital copy for the prime reason of hoping that when the Switch 2 comes out sometime in 2025 it will have the graphical rendering abilities and I hope larger screen to play this game much better than our current Nintendo Switch. These current graphics are at least 30 years behind what a PC offers. I don't need them to be up to date, but seriously perhaps ten yours would be a much bigger boost. Xbox and PS5.
Nintendo is pretty well known not to be backwards compatible with their older game systems, so buying more games on a cartridge that will most likely be utterly useless on the future Nintendo Switch 2, it seems for now to just go digital and let Nintendo make us pay more. I had to upgrade my Micro SD and got a sweet deal on a 1TB for $80 bucks on Amazon. Crazy to see how 64gigs just doesn't cut it anymore.

Yeah this game is amazing. I'm a little bit torn about deducting a point due to something the developer literally has zero agency over in this case, like its a Switch game, there is nothing they could have done about the "blurry" graphics at all in this case, quite the contrary this game is insanely impressive for how it manages to squeeze literally everything out of the hardware its running on

Uncovering the sea has been a few hours of my gameplay, still not close to actually uncovering it all, but it's a very soothing gameplay element for sure

This game has a bug which causes the game to peeform poorly after being played for hours without being closed so make sure you close it everytime you stop playing
What I find interesting is you hate the chain attack. I LOVE them. I try to get as high damage as possible. You get exp bonuses and you run it so high and it has the satisfaction of running a high score in an arcade game.
I'm heavily addicted to Exploring; I'm over 50 hours and only on chapter 3. The thing I like about the chain attacks is trying to beat your previous high total damage record lol. The stuttering bothers me more than the graphics, but it's a Nintendo Switch not an Xbox or PC.
I am on chapter 3, taking a lot of time exploring the map and do side quests😆 I also love Zeon's voice so much!

I enjoy the chain attacks but I do wish they added a way to speed up the animations 😅😅
Never TV:s or mClassic cleans up the game pretty well. All new TV:s sorta upscales games to 4K quite well, I use the Sony a80j and it also got an additional feature called reality creation that will make rooks and stuff look more realistic (I use 45%). For me Xenoblade is super sharp and down right gorgeous on my TV, just a little tip for anyone thinking about upgrading their TV set.
I’ll be getting it this fall/winter since nothing is coming out the rest of the year that interests me and I’m still finishing up other games.
Funny, because I've been playing XB3 with headphones since the beginning, and I would've never thought that certain songs would be quieter. I need to get back in and wrap up Ch. 6, but I just got NIS Classics Vol. 3 and may have taken an accidental detour...
My main 2 gripes with this otherwise great game is 1: Lack of item sorting, ESPECIALLY with a frequently growing inventory, and 2: Voice direction.
I LOVE the voice talent in the game, make no mistake- I always look forward to it in any Xenoblade game- but the delivery of the vast majority of the lines in this game feels like they were just reading a script, or just took the first take? I dunno, but there are many situations where the dialogue spoken didn't come off as realistic for the situation given. It's been this was since XB2, and I'm very concerned.

another graphics snob with a ps5. I played on a c1 oled and it looked amazing with clear resolution and beautiful graphics.
Can you, like in XCX, have a separate "visual" equipment from the one that determines your stats? I often really don't like the looks of the best gear in rpg's, but prefer some of the more silly options without losing the stats of the better gear. I randomly remember looking like a carrot in Fantasy Life on 3ds, no way would I prefer a heroic armour VISUALLY over a carrot suit.
I felt I leveled up too fast. I liked to do side quest stories ect a fair amount it exploring but always ended up overleveled 😔

After playing the first Xenoblade on handheld mode for the first time, I vowed to myself to always play any Xenoblade game in docked mode. Lmao. I just can't stand how blurry it gets in handheld.

Level 77 in chapter 5? The final boss is level 75. The story bosses will have zero difficulty, but to each their own.
Good review and i totally agree, Ircha. I love the game and it is one of my favorite games already. Story and characters are beautiful and the gameplay is awesome, but the graphics „switch“ from beautiful with shimmering lights on water and precious sundowners to blurry chaos and looking terrible (especially im combat ..) … Well… It still is so much fun … I need to admit it … 😂

What's funny is Erick Landon RPG is the only person in the world to beat the game as fast as he did. Like I'm talking mere days. He doesn't do side quest, classes or job system, plays on the easiest difficulties for all jrpgs and also cries about getting lost in open world like games.

Wow, I've never seen you be so critical of the graphics before; Pokémon Legends Arceus has really made you have to give them a second thought! A really really good review; I think you did a good job with explaining that any graphical faults shouldn't prevent you enjoying the game. Well done!
They do have low res textures because Nintendo will not allow first party games to exceed 16gb. So, Monolith had to use low res textures, or reduce the variety in the world. The hardware isn’t what is holding it back.
I’ve been trying to get thru 2 for forever.
My ADHD, the. I’m at sucking for the first third or so, and the embarrassing character models of many of the Blades put me off.
I eventually fell in love with the rest of the game, tho, once I forced myself to try and beat it before 3.
Then my completionist tendencies kicked in.
XC2, if you try to do most of the stuff, is loooong.
I’ve got 300 hours in and I just got to what I thought would be the end… but isn’t even close to the end!
Not to mention I kinda want to play the expansion, Torna the Golden Country.
Also what I’ve learned thru playing (hell from just looking at the box art for 3!) is that these games are more connected than people tell you.
I started on 2, bc ppl all said you didn’t need to play one first. That was probably true before, but now I want to know everything that happened in 1 before I go and see why the giant Titan from 1 is chopping in half poor Uraya!
At this rate I wont get to 3 for like another year!

You’re a better person than me. I’ve actually started holding off buying some Switch games because the low resolution, severe pop-in, and pathetic frame rates really hamper my enjoyment of the games. A lot of these games I won’t ever play unless they release a more powerful console with backwards compatibility. It’s a shame because there’s a lot of really fun sounding games, but in reality they’re just a blurry stuttering mess.
I’m not even a graphics snob, just a performance snob. I’d happily play XC3 with less eye candy if it was a constant 720p / 1080p 60fps.
Xenoblade Chronicles 3 is my all time favorite game, i can't believe I am just now watching your review on this game for the first time....i haven't noticed stuttering while playing docked but i absolutely refuse to play this game handheld because it is sooooo blurry handheld even on the OLED! It's a shame cause i prefer to play my Switch games handheld
Best Xeno story and characters imo. Lots of green grass levels. Overworld music is kinda meh sometimes, but I still can't want anything meatier!

This review made 3 look so good, I decided to buy Xenoblade Chronicles DE and start playing the series from the beginning. I played for 10 hours straight without even realizing it lmao.

Hope we get a Super Switch next year so we can see this game on better hardware!! I bought it already but haven't had time to start it. I think it will be a winter game for me :-)
Hmm i like this game better than the last two ones but i didnt like the class grinding that much it was such a pain to max my classes as soon as i get them and there is no level down until the post game
Witcher 3 is a bit “muddy” on switch, and I know the feel when you’re trying to sell a game and it stutters or becomes slushy, like it makes you look bad lol. But I think people’s expectations around the switch are so low to begin with they’ll be more impressed the game looks as good as it does
I said the exact same thing on my review lol, put this game with tales of arise engine and its the greatest jrpg ever

Great review, spot on mostly except the graphics. Oh man I can't believe u deducted some points for that haha. I am blown away by them and I keep saying to my friend "I can't believe this is on the Switch. I don't know how they did it!" Granted yes, it's not as good as a PS5 etc but it still looks incredible! Also I haven't played it handheld myself, I think this is the culprit for you maybe? It looks absolutely incredible on my TV. I have barely noticed this "blurryness" you mention and it rarely ever stuters. It loses some FPS sometimes in bigger zones, cough cough The sea zone. Other than this, again I am so impressed how it runs.
OMG though, the size lol, I still haven't finished it. Been playing since release and I am 87 hours and only on chapter 6 hehe
Xenoblade Chronicles X needs a port to Switch and also Yoshi's Wooly World:P
You do know the Wii Wii U and Switch all have the same graphics nothings to change no better gameplay as you see on Xbox and PlayStation consoles if Nintendo had achievements I would of bought the game for the achievements as I did for so many other games like resident evil 5 but since Nintendo doesn’t have achievements I say buy the game once not twice

I dont have a switch but i think o will finally jump in when the new switch finally comes out.
I borrowed & tried to get into XENOBLADE 2 when it first came out then again about a year ago but I couldn’t. Pacing kinda slow, main characters kinda meh & kiddish outside of Mia & I couldn’t completely relate to them, didn’t find them interesting from some of their designs to their personality. and furthermore I’m not a fan of “Auto-Battle” style in open world of games. I’m more turn base and hack n slash style gamer. I didn’t want to spent $60 on a game to essentially play itself. Then knowing how many hours I must sit through at that particular time in my life. I was like nah so I just watched all cutscenes on TH-cam. And it kept me interested enough to give another go.
When XBC3 got announced I was interested in the characters, visuals etc. but still wasn’t sold. Ironically I went to pick it up physical copy on release day but sold out everywhere in town. Started playing XBC2 again got bored. I just so happen to shopping @ Walmart and there it was the last copy of XBC3! I bought it a 5days ago & have put it down since!
Damn XBC3 is a great game! Within 10hrs of gameplay you’re already in AWW of the World, Story, Cast, Game Controls, Tutorials!

I agree that the graphics for XC3 could look better, but have you ever played 2 in handheld? The game looks horrible xD
