  • This is a 2021 Tesla Model 3 Standard Range plus and we are going to cover all aspects of it in the video to help you decide if it will be enough for your daily routines. Let me know what questions you have and be sure to subscribe for more on the Model 3 and Model Y.
    The LFP battery in this car will get more lifecycles out of it compared to the previous battery in the car and you are able to charge it to 100% without shortening the life span of the battery.

    That LFP though... Not sure Andrew realizes just how good about vehicle he has. That mother effer will probably get at least 5,000 cycles on the battery. 5,000 cycles times 250 miles per complete charge, just to make the math easy, is well in excess of 1 million miles. If he drives the average 13,500 mi per year, That car will literally last him 92 years. Congratulations bro! You just bought your last car. 😁🙌

    • @HermanWillems
      @HermanWillems ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes everything about the LFP is superior than the NMC. Except for energy density. Other than that. Less chance to catch fire, good charging speed, alot cycles very little degradation and thus it will keep its value well even after 8 years and 200 kilometers. I wanted to buy the Performance, but as i buy it with my own money i think its wiser to buy the standard range for long term driving. And the new standard range has 60kWh battery. Has almost the same range as long range, and uses less electricity which is cheaper to run..... about the audio. U can upgrade the sound system to have more speakers. Add a subwoofer.

      Most times, you charge your Tesla when your battery still has 50% capacity instead of 0% capacity.

      The energy density isn't great though. And it doesn't charge as fast as the other models.

    I’ve done several road trips already in my SR+ (non-LFP) over the Summer and have had no issues at all. For around here where they’re still building out the Supercharger network though, it does help if you’re going too far off main highways to have the CHADeMO adapter as a backup.

    Lithium Iron Phosphate is great for battery longevity as it usually has 2 to 3 times as many full charging cycles of Lithium Ion, however, the voltage of LiFePo batteries is a bit lower, so you are not able to get as much peak power out of them as if you would out of Lithium Ion. The huge benefit of LiFePo though is that they are less likely to catch fire, therefore, they are much safer.
    There has been concern of LiFePo in the cold climates as well, not sure if that has been improved, certainly shouldn't be an issue in Arizona though.

    @Geckogold 2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    Congrats Andrew! One thing I've learned from Out of Spec Motoring and two recent long range road trips I did in my Model Y to Yellowstone and the Grand Canyon, is to arrive at the next supercharger at around 5-15% battery, and leave once the car says you'll arrive at the next supercharger with around 15-20% battery.
    It's usually means more supercharger stops, but when you're at them, you're typically spending 10-15 minutes at each one, compared to 30-50 minutes if you charge up to 80% each time. In some stops, it was often just enough to use a nearby bathroom and buy a snack/drink when the car said it was ready to go.
    There are some caveats though. The first is that if it's on a weekend, the superchargers may be busy in bigger cities. The second is that if the supercharger is far from the freeway, like say a 10-15 minute drive just to get to it from the freeway exit, it might not be worth stopping at unless you just want to visit it once so you can say you were there, or it's a V3 supercharger.
    In those cases, it may be more practical to just charge longer at one supercharger, skip the next one, and then reach the one after. To pass the time, play a game in the car or watch a video on Hulu, Twitch, Netflix, TH-cam, or Disney+.

We are driving in chill mode and it seems fast, but, then again we are coming from a 2007 Prius. BTW chill mode is seriously more efficient. Lots of benefits to LFP. Compared to NCA: you can charge to 100% ALL the time with NO degradation (with projected life span of 1.3 million miles). Not affected by extreme temperatures. Not susceptible to thermal runaway. Unlikely to ignite when punctured. Less costly to produce. Iron is "infinitely" abundant. If the goal is reliable everyday use rather than pushing the limits of range and performance, LFP is currently the ideal chemistry for BEVs.

      Well, not "no" degradation. LFP will reach 80% of original capacity at ~2000 cycles using near 100% battery capacity at every charge. Versus only 5-600 cycles in NCA. Now keep that LFP pack within 20-95% charge, it then becomes somewhere around 5000 full charge cycles. Which realistically is what most users will do anyhow. So yeah, now you have 1 million miles at 80% of original capacity. But by then, you're realistically running more into age degradation than anything else. Note: LFP is more sensitive to low states of charge rather than high state. Like you said, charging to 95-100% isn't really an issue. Even low state isn't bad, but better to keep it above 10% just like NCA.
      The major downside (other than energy density) is it can't be charged at all below freezing, whereas NCA can be, just at a heavily reduced rate. That is an important factor for me in the upper midwest as it will spend more time and energy keeping the battery warm.
      I really like my LR 3, but I also like the idea of LFP for long term ownership. Maybe in a truck where there can be a lot more empty space for batteries. Even if it only had 250mi of max range, that would still be good for those heavy snow days and home depot runs. I'd take the density hit for longevity in a truck.

      @@andrewt9204 your life cycle data is not accurate... it's much too low, even for NCA. Estimation for LFP is 4500 cycles before reaching 80% depth of discharge (study done cycling from 100% SOC to 100% DOD at rate of 0.5C - which is much more abusive than what an EV battery would normally experience during real world use). That's going from fully charged to completely discgarged... every single day...for over 12 years😄
      Not sure of CATL's exact specs for Tesla, but there are LFP batteries that can charge at temps as low as -20c without an external heat source. What's more, I actually forgot to mention a few key LFP advantages: they can provide constant power regardless of discharge level. Additionally, end of life effect on environment is extremely low to negligible, containing non-toxic solvents and no heavy metals, they are over almost entirely recyclable👍

      @@georgecostanza2695 Hey, curious question- thank you for the great detail on the LFP lifespan. What have you been able to learn regarding what this lifespan looks like on NCA or even the LiPo batteries that are in some other brands (such as the Kia EV's)? I know they aren't going to last as long as LFP, but how wide is that gulf? I've seen some things that state the overall lifespan of LiPo is only 300-600 charge cycles, but that seems absurdly low considering that Kia is putting them in brand new models such as the EV6, with a 10 year/100,000 mile warranty. So I was curious how far off these really are from the LFP batteries in the Model 3.

Tesla claims 5.8 but most videos online are showing over 6 seconds. The Lithium Ion version is 5.3 so you need to change that in your video.

    I got a M3 for a test drive and it's a pretty tiny car. Fast as hell, but small inside.
    The trunk is definitely not the one I would describe as "so much storage" - it's very small, even with undertrunk (throw away a spare wheel and any sedan will have it).
    Reno Logan is about the same size (completely different category, I know), but the trunk is 2 times bigger.
    I'm 180cm and fitting my knees under the wheel wasn't too comfortable. OK, but not great.
    Definitely not a choice for me. I hope MY is much bigger, cause I want it 😭

    • @Geckogold
      @Geckogold 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The Model Y has more interior room, and sits higher, so you can step in/out of it fairly easily, compared to "falling in/climbing out" of the Model 3. The frunk and sub trunk in the Y is also much larger, and with the hatchback design and folding seats, you can fit a decent amount of cargo in the back.
      It is a little less efficient and slightly slower than the Model 3, in addition to being pricier. But for me, the cargo room and ease of entry/exit were big selling points for me, and worth the tradeoffs.
