    My 60KWh Model 3 is extremely impressive when it comes to efficiency. I made two 1000km trips recently (same conditions as in the video) and the overall consumption was 197Wh/km (reported by car) with Autopilot mostly set to 150km/h when possible, otherwise 5km/h above the speed limit (I live in Germany). I found out that 150km/h seems to be the sweet spot when balancing consumption and speed. I did a 1000km challenge of my own and it took me 9:50 for 1050km and I did not optimize my charging stops, I just did what the navigation told me.

    • @TimoFuchs
      @TimoFuchs 2 ปีที่แล้ว +17

      BTW: I am using Michelin CrossClimate 2 all season tyres. It feels like they are much quieter than the Michelin Pilot Sport it came with and the consumption seems quite good (I have not compared it to other tyres, though).

    • @UndefeatedDeity
      @UndefeatedDeity 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Thank you for sharing your experience, Timo! Wow 9:50 on tesla navigation?? How many stops did you make? I’m anticipating my SR+ in March and ABRP calculates roughly 10:30 for 1000km through Germany, so this is excellent news.

    • @TimoFuchs
      @TimoFuchs 2 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      @@UndefeatedDeity I made 5 stops, IIRC. And a few times I stopped charging earlier than the Tesla navigation recommended, so I almost always arrived at the SuperCharger with a rather low SoC. I reached my final destination with 3% SoC. So maybe there was a little bit of optimization, but I didn't use ABRP, just the on board navigation system and my gut feeling. And I made all the stops that the Tesla navigation planned initially.
      I feel that ABRP over-estimates the consumption for the 60KWh at certain speeds, I have been significantly quicker than ABRP (and the Tesla nav) almost every time without trying hard.
      The Autobahn was relatively empty most of the time so that might also have been a beneficial factor. But all in all I was really surprised how efficient the M3 is in winter.

    I am driving my M3 2021 SR+ LFP for almost 7 months already and absolutely happy with comfort, range, and drive experience. Now planning long family trip from Latvia to Austria for skiing with a box on the roof :).. Hopefully this will not be too extreme and will have mo problems with range, chargin points etc.. As for now, after 20K km, average battery comsumption is about 140 Wt/km, which I think very efficient even considering summer time. Will see how it will be during my first Tesla winter :)

    As Model 3 60kWh LFP owner I have noticed that the heat pump scavenges heat from the battery until it's temperature drops to around 10-11'C. After this consumption jumps quite a lot. In -8'C outside temperature the car was pulling 4kW to heat the cabin. This was after 80km of drive when battery was down to 10'C.
    I wish Bjorn would do some sort of cold car cabin heating tests / consumption tests.
    My consumption is usually 190-220wh / km in -10'C with pre-heated car. Speed under 90km/h.

    Is it an idea to "normalise" you consumption figures to a particular temperture? For example the yearly average temp in Norge. Than it is easier to compare the different cars. Now are the numbers always cluthered by the temperature. You can use the general factors from Geotab to calculate a normalised consumption for every range test. I already do that in my EV spreadsheet and it gives good results. I know that the correction factor is different for every car but it differs not to much to be unuseful, i think.

    So I'm not sure where else I can comment, but we have a 2020 SR+ and it just got a warranty battery pack replacement, in which they've retrofitted us to the 60kWh LFP pack. However, the "usable" kWh (100-0) appears to have been unchanged from original - from what I gather it's around 52.5kWh. It would seem then that there's a 7.5kWh buffer after reaching 0% SOC. Not sure if they're going to do any OTA update to change this but something to point out I guess with these retrofits starting to occur!

    Looking at the consumption of M3, my fat E-tron isn’t efficient at all. About 300wh/km (5 degrees outside & 100km/h). But at the end of the day, a sedan can’t be compared to a SUV. (Same applies for an ICE) Fun fact, I am still saving roughly 40-70% on running cost compared to my old ICE SUV, so I don’t mind the high EV consumption. @@fabianstuckmann3611 I think that (charging speed gets slower above 80%) is relevant only to DC fast charging (50-350kW charging).
      99% of the time I charge at my home or workplace with a normal plug at 1,76 kW power, so I don't think that is really affected whether I am charging below or above 80%. :) In practice it just means that I don't have to keep any charging limit e.g. at home, so that it doesn't accidentally charge over 80, unless I specifically tell it to for some longer trips.
      Especially on weekends, I quite often go over 80% even with slow home charging. I drive around 120km-200km daily, sometimes not at all if e.g. working from home etc. Like right now, my EV is charged up to around 75%, so I have actually disconnected it altogether from my home slow charging power outlet.

    W8... So there are 2 versions on the 2021 SR+? And one of them has a slightly larger battery?
    What is the difference between this one and the 2021 SR+ LFP MiC? According to Bjørn's chart, they are quite different!

    • @adrianleitch6996
      @adrianleitch6996 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Same motor, bigger battery, became standard in Oct 2021 SR+ models. 2022 RWD builds have the same battery but a less powerful motor, it will be interesting to see how they do.

      @theaimuse 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@adrianleitch6996 Thanks for that info Adrian.
      So any M3 SR+ produced after October 2021 would have the larger battery? Even the MiC models?
      Is there any way to identify them - or is production date later than October a guarantee?

    • @adrianleitch6996
      @adrianleitch6996 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@theaimuse I can't speak for the US models but Shanghai factory swapped over mid October to the larger battery. So a MiC Model 3 from late October onwards in the SR+/RWD Models only (not LR or P) should all be the 60kW LFP model. BTF1 is the code for the 60kW battery that Tesla uses.

      On the plus side you don't need to have that screen up anymore to see charging speed. You can have spotify or the web browsert for example up while still being able to see the speed. The charge screen is now only for setting charge limit and timers.
      Might be a bit annoying for Bjørn when he is streaming. But for most people it is actually better. Unless you have really poor eyesight it is no problem to read the text.
