Don't say the Slim 7 isn't worth the extra cost. You get full aluminium, a better battery, better speakers.
That alone makes the Slim 7 more premium and certainly worth the extra charge.
and a fingerprint sensor, thunderbolt 4, per-key RGB, 240 hz and 3 USB ports instead of 2

After going back and forth over the past two months, for the money and what it offers the one that stands out the most seems to be the LENOVO LEGION PRO 5 with the 7745HX and 32 gigs of ram. plus 4070
I had that (got it as a work laptop, but with i9 13900HX and RTX 4060, 1TB/32GB), and unfortunately I had to send it back to Lenovo due to abysmal battery life. I requested for it to be replaced with a Slim 7i.
I hope your Pro 5 with AMD will have better battery life!

in the UK at least we've had an offer going for the past month where the 32GB RAM upgrade was free. I picked up my legion slim 7i with i9 and rtx 4070 for only £100 more than the UK list price of the slim 5 (at £1650 with the lenovo sales person adding an extra discount)!

@@pauldivers1348 Currently it's being sold at its launch price (of £2200). I believe I got mine during a back to school sale (around the end of August). Lenovo do lots of offers so maybe wait until Black Friday. (Also if you talk to one of the lenovo reps in the chat function they add discounts). To find it I just went onto the Lenovo website and searched "Legion Slim 7i" and went to customise on the configurator.

Can you imagine how difficult it is to watch the review when you bought Slim 7 (Y9000X) on 13900H with RTX4060 and 32GB of RAM. I console myself with the fact that 4070 should not be much better than 4060. But in the slim versions they are 115Watt. So I sometimes regret that I didn’t take the usual one, it’s not dramatic anymore, only the huge 330W power supply in the regular version is embarrassing.

Rtx 4050, 4060 and 4070 max out at 100 watts this, despite nvidia calling them 140 watts, so you are indeed getting the best of rtx 4060 in your laptop

Question: is the i9/4070 warmer? Im about to pull the trigger on the Slim 7 (AMD 7840HS/4060), but I was wondering if upgrading to the Slim 7i (i9 and 4070) is worth it. Im a casual gamer so it might be overkill, but its nice to have no ceiling in a few years to come; problem is I’m worried about thermal performance, this being a slim version, and I’ve read that the i9 will draw more power and get hotter… any thoughts? What would you recommend, considering I’m not a graphic designer or anything like that, it’ll be my day to day laptop for normal use and gaming while travelling
O meu e um I9 13900h RTX 4060 e só uso na opção de silencioso e ele incomoda um pouco onde fica nos pulsos pois esquenta então se o rayzen for mais frio aconselho rayzen peguei i9 porque tive um notebook amd e ele ficava dando uns bug não sei se era a placa de vídeo ou o processador ai fui de linha intel mais e bem esquentadinho esse intel porem o notebook me passou uma sensação premium só to estranhando não ter c cedilha pois o meu e importado e por ser mais leve e jogar warzone no maximo em 1080p pra mim e o suficiente

If you don't need that extra thump of multicore processing power that a professional editor/ designer would want then AMD option is the way to go. It's only slightly less powerful in multicore, almost the same power in singlecore for a lot less of cost.
Hey Ben, couldn't a USB to Ethernet adapter work on the Slim 7i ? I'm thinking it not having an Ethernet port isn't that bad
yes, but it means bringing the extra dongle along if you move around and still want a wired connection
I have a HP Omen 15 with all aluminum frame. I believe notebooks made out of aluminum or plastic frames is overblown as I've had great experiences with both types of frame construction types with no cracks or any other form of construction build issues 😊.
Does the legion slim 5i even support 2 32GB 6:15 RAM sticks? On the Indian website it says "Up to 32GB 5600MHz DDR5 (2 x 16GB)"
with the 7i, if you put another 16gb of ram, with a total of 32, would it playback outperform the 5i?
🤔there are a lot more options for both of these though! For CPU there are 2 AMD and 2 intel options, and both can come with RTX4060 or 4070 (sometimes radeon), and different screen sizes (2560x1600 or 1920x1200). Maybe screen color gamut could also be different for these different screens?
I realize that this is a nightmare for trying to benchmark the performance across all the different configurations, but it's hard to compare the 2 models when the spec is pretty different too

Thanks for making these comparisons. I just bought the slim 5 about 3 days ago, and got curious to see what the Legion Slim 7i had to offer. This video made me feel better in doubling down in my choice. It's nice to see that there is wiggle room to upgrade to an even punchier RAM option if need be. I'm happy to have the Slim 5 as my casual gaming PC. [personal note - I've got a Macbook Pro to handle other work & personal needs, so, if a premium or luxury aesthetic is something that y'all need... maybe check out the 7i]

I think you missed highlighting that the slim 5 does not come with a Thunderbolt 4, unless it's a different case in your country? Slim 5 comes with 2xUSB-C 3.2 Gen 2 instead of 1xUSB-C 3.2 Gen 2, 1xThunderbolt 4 as in Slim 7i. One more noticeable difference is the battery size - slim 5 comes with 80Wh and slim 7i with a 99.9Wh.

I got the 7i because of the second SSD slot and the superbe "industrial metal design".
The 5i is an option non the less.
Plus I have an XMG i7 Intel with 64 GB RAM, but never got the limits.

Well, for the I/O Port part, you should have mentioned that the Slim 7 has one Thunderbolt 4(Intel)/USB 4.0(Ryzen) that the 5i doesn't.
Hi! thanks for your videos. What you will choose between slim 7 with 4060 and slim 5 with 4070 for 170€ more? I heard that slim7's screen is way better (500nits/240Hz vs 300nits/165Hz) but I don't know if the difference is remarquable inside. Are temperatures better in slim 5 or slim 7? I don't want to pay for aesthetics but for a laptop that last the most. I don't know if the better contruction quality of slim7 translates on a better durability or the more efficient 4070 with better temps (?) is the way. It will be great to know your thoughts! Thanks.
@@SebastianH1987 i checked for almost several months. Not all the countries have the same specs. Here in France slim 5 didn't have 500nits screen option one month for now. I don't know at the moment but you can check before answering ;)

@@BenGKaiser Thanks - that'd be amazing. The new Legion 9i seems to be a thinner version of the Legion 7i, only with a 4090 and a mini-LED (likely the same 3.2k one found on the Slim 9 Pro 16"). There's also an upgraded watercooling system in the laptop.

32gb in total +slot is enough for me, however with 3y Premium warranty i dont care about hw issues. also there is not a lot of choice of ram and there is no ram overclocking in my mind. so in my eyes the two slots ram is just plus of you want to ise the notebook longer then the warranty...

So I'm torn with choosing Legion 5 pro and Legion 5 slim so can anyone tell me what's the difference between them besides that the slim is much more "slimmer".
from what ive seen gathered over the last few days:
- slim isnt really much slimmer if you opt for 4060 or up and the other dimensions dont change much either on the regular one you have the bulkier looking fan exhausts
- slim comes with 60 or 80wh battery while regular always is 80
- different screen options
- different I/O usb c vs usb a and the card reader
- different Processors HX version on Pro vs H on Slim (H vs HS on AMD models)
- there might be differences in Wattages
First of all, the slim 5 isn't actually slimmer but looks more clean and less "gamer". Performance wise, slim performs slightly less than pro but also offer better battery life. Also, the slim is like 150$ cheaper for comparable CPUs and exact same specs.

i regret buying the Rog Strix g15 G513IM (3060 R7 4800H) in april 2023, i found the Slim 5 4060 for 1200€ (100€ more than the strix)

Nga I saw my friend who accidentally dropped his legion 5 from a 6ft height and it didn't even have a dent on it whatsoever.
Infact its was his second time dropping it and before he told me that it was his second time dropping it, the laptop looked just as any other laptop you could find.
You could make an argument that the legion 5 pro from 2021 had some really bad hinge issues. I really dunno why they went ahead with that but subsequent models from newer gen were among the best built quality units. 2022 models and this year's models all have exceptional build quality. You're just unlucky if you get one that has qc issues. Its un avoidable with any brand. But I can assure you that lenovo's build quality is among the best I've seen.

What about the Slim 5i?
Although not 'recommended' would the 7i work with a 48 GB stick, giving it a total of 64Gb? Would it be any 'worse' in performance than just the single 16Gb? There is very little information online about 'asyncronous' dual channel (where the 2 channels of RAM are different sizes). (great review btw, and if your code works downunder I will use it....)
Asynchronous ram doesn’t function properly in almost any machine. You won’t find information on it.

I got a slim 5 7840hs, 1TB, 16GB and RTX4070 for 15490 SEK on a sale (thats 1399 USD). So a no-brainer. Upgrade from my 2020 Legion 5i. And its amazing, currently adicted to Starfield.

@@TheMegusta1337 Elgiganten hade 20% på alla Windows datorer för ett par veckor sedan. Var ute efter en Legion Pro men när jag väl kom till butiken, var alla redan "bokade". Så kom hem med en slim istället, för samma pris som Pro hade kostat. Tror dem är listar slim för 16990 nu. För 15490 fick jag även en extra 1TB NVME.
Jag hade en Lenovo Legion 5i 2020 sedan tidigare, men ångrar inte att jag plockade upp en slim 5, allt är i princip bättre. =)

@@User98-456 Pro har ju 240 Hz display, men det är lite overkill när det gäller gaming laptops så vida man inte ska spela CS eller andra spel där datorn klarar av att generera frames som når upp 250+fps. Den slim jag köpte har en 165 Hz 2560x1600p, vilket egentligen också är lite för bra om man ska spela AAA spel. Pro har också lite fler USB portar än vad Slim 5 har.
Tyvärr finns inget val dock att välja annat om man inte går in på Lenovos hemsida och bygger en där, men då blir det oftast dyrare.
Nackdelen med Slim är att den har en någon mindre profil än Pro, så jag gissar att kylningen är något större på just Pro.
Men jag har inga problem med ljudet eller värme i min slim, och då kör jag Starfiled, Cyberpunk, Metro Exodus och många andra AAA spel.
Lenovo är bland dem bästa när det gäller just kylning och ljud nivå. Slim 5an är dock inte slim, den är precis lika stor/hög som vanliga Lenovo 5. Det är bara Slim 7 som kan klassas som en slim.

I choose slim 5, 16'' WQXGA 240Hz AMD Ryzen 7-7840HS, RAM 16Go, SSD 1To, NVIDIA RTX 4070 8Go, Windows 11 Home. 450$ less in Europe, the slim 7i model is way to expensive here.

The 2022 legion 5i pro is still a very strong laptop but the slim5 is currently 1189$, so if you have issues with the 2022 legion 5i pro, then it might be a worthy upgrade. Or if you decide to sell the pro.
Why linked the slim 5 to a Ryzen 5. You said the model was Ryzen 7?!
Basically, the Slim 5 has similar performance with Slim 7 until you throw in another Ram stick on the Slim 7.
No need to do benchmark scores for anything MT heavy as they are different architectures and worse yet not even same core counts. It will pretty much always lean toward the higher core count..

I'm baffled that 7 doesn't have a dedicated internet port and also in terms of the ram slots. If you looks at the name. It should be the other way around. They market the 7 as a model with better options
Yes and no. The Slim 5 is great but shouldn't be called "slim" cause it's just average in size compared to other laptops.
If you are really looking for portability, the slim 7 is the way to go.

I just got the slim 5 version for 1149 today at best buy. I don't think you can beat that deal
Slim 7: better keyboard, better RGB lighting, much better speakers, better trackpad, much better screen (500 nits +) all metal build, actually slim, bigger battery, etc. I personally did not like the slim 5 keyboard and the screen just looked washed out and was not bright enough, anything under 400 nits of brightness is pathetic.
they downgraded the known metal build quality of the legion series from 2022 so they can use that build as a sales pitch on the much more expensive 7 and 9 series.
Great. I literally took Delivery of an I9, RTX 4070, 32G ram slim 7i this morning. Very happy w the machine regardless. I have it for both college and gaming, so don't regret the extra horses.

@johndavid65 I have tried intel version and found it performed worse on battery and when connected to power source about the same. I use laptop for cad/design work and 780m is just awesome. Uses about 16w of power to run Autocad or Sketchup and performance is smooth. With powerbank I was able to work for 12 hours. Amd is also cheaper. That's why I choose amd version.
@@alexeipopov3030 I ordered the i7 13700h version but has a weird issue with it so returned it and ordered the AMD version with 7840hs.
With i7 performance was excellent and it ran really surpassingly cool, but battery like was ok at best, no more than 5h of normal use. From all the info I could gather the AMD version uses about 40/50% less power on video playback for example. That's huge.
I should receive it in a week let's see.

tdp doesnt matter this gen but the slim 7 4060 has 105w and thats the best tdp you can get because RTX 4050/60/70 gpus have tdp limit of 90-110w@@greateminemfan

Slim 7 AMD is way better. You do not need more than 32gb of ram unless you are a high end creator and in which case the 4060 of the Lenovo legion 7 slim is just not going to cut it anyway.

No no no. Slim 7i more more more brighter and vibrant screen, slim 5 too dark IMO which is not suitable for bright room. You should play slim 5 in the cave IMO.
For a photographer wich ojne you think is better option?
