I'd go Legion Slim 5 over the Slim 7i based on the ports, but that's my opinion.

The network port is what actually made me sell my other gaming laptop. It made the laptop too thick. I ordered legion 7 slim instead.

I bought slim 5 it's on delivery now. I just noticed specs I bought are i7 13700 + RTX 4070. I can't find a single link with that specs online for this laptop

I got the Slim 5 recently and have been loving it, but I got it under the assumption that I'd use a dock anyway, especially since I'll only really be using it a lot on the go. I also wasn't originally going for a gaming laptop, but the $800 discounted price tag on Best Buy was hard to pass up.
The reason most people go for the slims is portability or a cheaper price. The "slim" 5 becomes much thicker cuz of the Ethernet port and a usb-c adapter for ethernet is just as fast as an in-built ethernet port. So no reason to buy the slim 5 if the port is your only worry. A better comparison would be the slim 7 vs pro 5 (better portability vs better performance).
But u can use a Lan cabel Adapter on the Slim7?

That port makes the laptop noticeably thicker, which is a major issue for anyone shopping for a "slim" version. You can always throw an adapter in a bag if you're going to need it. My last laptop was a macbook air. It lasted 10 years and I never used ethernet once. These are designed for portability.
It's annoying that it doesn't have a USB type A on the side.
It seems that the cooling fans on slim 5 are bigger. Slim 7 probably has worse cooling.
slim 7 had major cooling issues, idk about the slim 5. slim 7 kept burning my fingers on the keyboard. you'd have to have the fans running max to keep the keyboard cool enough running games from 2003. You shouldn't be using either as a laptop, they are designed to be hooked up to desk setups.
I got my Lenovo 8th gen 7i slim for like 1080 the Best Buy employee made a mistake by adding in more damage than there was and had to honor the price
I stacked on a 10 percent discount and traded in my old laptop for 935 I got the Lenovo for basically 43 dollars
Also very personal an specific I feel like unless you are an serious gamer that will never matter I'd rather have ports I use every other day vs one I may either never use or use just once 😂😂. I also feel like average person doesn't use that or needs to since whatever they are doing is okay over wifi an if they need that type of connection I doubt they even have the cord to use it with anyway

Literally none of us is using network port.. wifi is more convenient. We buy laptops for convenience
