I looked outside when I woke up, and it was still dark. It didn't get light out until about 7:30/745am. So if it did become permanent, it won't be light out until about 8:30/8:45am.
So, even though it's a hassle to change our clocks twice a year, that's the only way to get the right amount of daylight all year long.

As someone who moved from Illinois to Arizona (where Daylight Savings Time doesn't exist) I can safely say not having to change the clock every 6 months and never having to see the sun instantly go down leaving work/school in the span of a single day really does help psychologically. Why would you agree to work an hour for free? And why would you comment about your terrible decision, like it's the result of some sort of attack against you? You are a grown man, living in a free country. Negotiate better terms of employment. I've worked nights for a few years now, at a few different companies. Even at a temp agency, I was paid for the extra hour. If your boss won't agree to better terms, it's because he doesn't think you're worth what you're asking for. Probably because you're easily replaceable. So be less replaceable. Improve yourself, stop being a doormat, put your nose to the grindstone and earn what you're worth. Or don't.

I lived in Arizona on Standard time year around. It worked out fine. On the other hand, going to daylight savings time year around would be a real drag and I would rather switch my clock. In the northern states waking up in the dark after 8:30 or even 9:00 feels like waking up in the middle of the night and makes working outdoors harder and less productive in the dark until nearly 9:00. Real hard on the kids also and it is still dark after work anyway. If you want to keep it the same year around, like Arizona, stay on Standard time.

My only concern is that the end result focus on pushing sunlight as late into the evening on average year round as possible. If your job is so dependent on daylight that a change in the seasons can affect it you probably shouldn't be worrying about the official clock time at all. But being stuck indoors away from natural sunlight only to finally leave work or school as the sun goes down can lead to physical and psychological health problems in a matter of weeks.

'If your job is so dependent on daylight' Rationale was about moving unused early daylight into the evening, it still applies just as much for recreational use after work as it did to work when it was initially implemented. @@ModelLights We can't "mostly ignore it" because the time change drastically affects people's daily lives. Waking up earlier, staying up later. Driving in a rush to and from work through towns and cities with sudden changes to lighting and sleep schedule while everyone else hopes their neighbor got enough sleep as they use the crosswalk or drive to see their families.
Right now the USA experiences 2 massive spikes in accidents at work, at home and while commuting each year because of the clock change. It is _literally killing us_ for no financial or social benefit. The only reason - _the only reason -_ it still exists is because fixing it requires political buy-in from both parties. Hell there are parts of this country where it causes as many as 7 time changes by driving less than 500 miles.
And it's time to _end it._
      Permanently.

A few years ago, they put a proposition on the ballot that stated if it passed, our lawmakers could change us to daylight savings time all year round without our needing to vote it in. I noticed that almost all the people promoting the prop were Chinese or Chinese American. You see this would put us one hour closer to China time, making it much easier to do business with China or to share trade secrets with China. I calculated how many more hours of heat and lights this would cost us per year, since we need to reduce global warming. It would cost us billions more hours of energy in California alone. we tried it in California several years ago, but after kids ended up dead or missing going to school in the dark and people ended up shot and robbed on their way to work, we switched back. Daylight savings means just that: saving the daylight hours. That's why birds get up earlier, stay up later in the summer.

You do know days are longer in the summer, so it wouldn't matter much if it gets dark closer to 9 instead of 10. The best part about standard time is the kids won't have to wait for the bus in the dark, it's part of our natural cycle, and we wouldn't alienate AZ and HI.
