    When it comes to wastegate spring sizing you typically want to put in a size that is 60 percent of your target boost pressure that way when the tuner is adjusting your boost pressure it requires a larger percentage of duty cycle giving him better control. I.e. you don't want to add 5 percent and boost pressure rise 7 psi you want to add 20 percent and get 7 psi. Remember the tuner can double whatever the spring pressure is in the Wastegate.

    18mm diameter gives you 9*9/3,14=254,34 area external 38 diameter 19*19/3,14=1133,54 which is 400% more except that you are spot on.nice job.

      @@Smeedia thats the formula and this the reason why you need to calculate many factors when you change from internal to external since the gap is huge and the responce time of the external does not allow you to maintain the desired boost level stable cause external have more inertia since it is heavier. nice video again keep on the nice job.

    Doesn't the blow off valve do the same thing if you keep 25lbs springs if the turbo went past wouldn't the extra just bleed off when the spring opens up thus eliminating a need for a waste gate?.

      A wastegate will lower turbo shaft speed, and controlling boost with a BOV leak will raise shaft speed at the same boost level. Not saying there aren't instances to do it, but not ideal for regular old boost control

    Can you explain the different sounds of a ewg? The 2015+ wrx with wastegates sounds like a two tone note but on some STI’s they have a one time note. How do I get the two tone note on a sti with a wastegate? I hear some sti with different size wastegates but some sound different. Is the the tune or the spring rates that affect the sound of it?

    • @Smeedia
      @Smeedia  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Wastegates size, Boost controller, the tune. For the 2915+ they use two wastegates where the STI only uses one. The dump tube also can play a factor 🙏😁

      It's more subjective to the turbo you run and the engine that your using for most stock turbo cars a 38mm works fine. I wouldent really suggest a 44mm unless your using a large turbo staying under 50% of its rating
