'War Hero' Accused of Stolen Valor Bought Medals Online: Feds

  • As Sarah Jane Cavanaugh tells it, she earned a Purple Heart “for actions in Afghanistan,” and a bronze star with a “V” for valor. From handing out awards to acting as master of ceremonies, she certainly seemed like a true war hero. But there’s one small problem: the Marines told Inside Edition there’s no record of her serving in the military at all, let alone earning all those medals.

You don't see people going around bragging about how great they were at there fast food job, because they burned themselves on the grill. There's no shame in getting a purple heart, but its not something to brag about, and hype up like it's some kind of achievement. HERE, LET ME SHOUT TO SEEM MORE DRAMATIC AS WELL.. THE ONLY JUSTICE FOR PEOPLE LIKE HER IS "GET A ROPE", & IT ONLY ENDS WHEN THEIR LEGS STOP KICKING.

Unbelievable!! I am a veteran, and living with one kidney after a very rare cancer took my left one. Secondary infection almost did me in. I have a truly devoted and loving family that saw me through. The betrayal you feel and disgust for someone who can do this kind of thing. I hope she’s put in prison for this maybe she’ll learn not to tell lies after some real punishment. That and dumping some bed pans at the VA.

Yes, my uncle has the purple heart, but he never talks about it. Not that he is ashamed of it, but I mean he just never really likes to say much about it. He did tell me once when some guy he was talking to telling him that he was a paratrooper. My uncle was a real one with the 101st in Vietnam. He asked him a few questions and knew he was fake. Things he should have known, he did not. I'm sorry to hear about your cancer. I had cancer twice, my back and my lungs. hang in there. I will pray for you

I might met someone that was stolen valor, they con gullible civilians about being dishonorable discharged for killing a toddler, they con landlords.
They assume no one question their credibility because of "their PTSD" they claimed to be part of a special forces taskforce of the USMC in a top secret mission. Probably just googling up Afghanistan and Iraq stories.

Disgusting, I don’t understand why anyone would want to pretend to be a Purple Heart recipient, let alone pretend to be in the military. These recipients have gone through hell and back and continue to struggle from their traumas and injuries. I hope they throw her in the brig instead of prison.

20+ years ago a friend of mine started telling girls he was a marine and he'd seen action in Bosnia. I pulled him aside and set him straight. We were teenagers back then but I knew some things you just don't do.

A side note... As someone who did NOT serve, but took care of displaced soldiers and Marines, and was subsequently educated, that was the most pathetic salute I've ever seen.
