  • The Land Cruiser is getting an Old Man Emu 2 inch lift kit. This is part 2, where I install the front suspension, and press in the castor correction bushings in the control arms.

Great set of videos, I am getting ready to do my LJ78 with a 2” OME lift and your videos will have been a great help. I’ve done lifts before on leaf spring systems but not coil and now a lot more about what to expect, on only wish I still had a garage to work in. Off topic but are the gloves your wearing flight gloves? I’m a former Navy Helo Crewchief so things like that catch my eye. Once again, Nice work on the videos.

Thanks! I'm glad this is helpful. The gloves are just work gloves I bought at my local lumber yard, haha.

Great helpful video, question, did your land cruiser have a Lean to the right after the install? I installed my springs the one labeled A went on the driverside and B went to the passenger side, is that wrong?

I don’t remember A and B labels on my springs. Oftentimes one spring is slightly taller, and most people put that on the drivers side to account for the weight of the fuel tank and driver.

Nice work...looks like you didn't have too much of a battle replacing those bushings. I have heard pretty bad war stories about those. ;-). Would have been cool (and a lot more work I guess) if you did a before and after with and without caster correction bushings. Looks awesome.

You could always lower the air pressure in the tires. Might be helpful get in and out. Awesome video. Thanks for sharing 👍 😊.

Wow man, you worked really hard, all alone. Hats off to you. Awesome cruiser. I want to ask about caster correction, when we uplift our SUV, coils are straight, it only gives height to body, why caster correction is required? This is confusing me, living in Pakistan, I can find new radius arm bushes but I cant find caster correction bushes, there is no concept here of caster correction.

    • @ldooffroad1823

The purpose of the caster correction bushings is to change the angle of the front axle back to the correct angle. In other words, when you increase the lift (distance between the axle and the body, the radius arms are angled down more. This twists the front axle slightly forward, which makes the "castor" wrong. The castor correction bushings "twist" the axle back to the correct angle. There is another method called "castor correction plates". But I'm not familiar with those. I think they are used for bigger lifts like 4".

I have done 2" lifts on the 80 and for that small amount of lift you really don't need the caster correction. Anything above that and you will need it to get your axle back to where it normally should be. If you are doing anything under 2 inches I would see how your rig drives withouth the correction and I think you will find it is just fine.
