  • So exciting!! The Land Cruiser is getting an Old Man Emu 2 inch lift kit. This is part 1, where I install the rear suspension. Sometimes older vehicles have rusted and seized bolts - watch as I repair a broken bolt in the axle.

It often helps to loosen all the bolts for the upper/lower trailing arms and track bar to allow the axle to drop more when installing longer shocks.

Thanks as always - show me an 80 project that doesn't have 5 rusty or "old as Moses parts" sub-projects before you can start. It is the ONLY part of newer rigs that I am jealous of.

Nice job, as I’m getting ready to do the same on my 80

You could have raised the opposite side wheel up to lower the one side so that to make it easier for you as you took the springs out and put back in. I felt bad seeing you struggling.

Nicely done...not a hard job too much but when you start breaking bolts that really sucks! Good you didn't break those top bolts on the rear shocks...not a good time. I would use Liquid Wrench in the future. It has proven to be one of the best. I commend your forward thinking of running a tap through those threads and anti-seize!...great idea!! I don't think you need to do caster correction for anything under 2 inches. I put a 2" Dobinsons on my 80 and did not do any correction and it's been awesome. Anything above that and I would say yes, do it. The really only modification I had to do was to extend my breather tubes and I just used fuel line. I might get extended swaybar links tho. Enjoy your 80.

I am also getting ready to do the Dobinsons lift.
You think I should order Deltas sway bar mounts?

@@daviddrabek5834 Depends what size lift you go. Even if you go stock height springs I am sure you are going to get a lift if your springs are stock and original since they have sagged so much. Wouldn't hurtgetting them tho. If you go even with a 2" lift you are probably going to have to extend the breather tubes on your front and rear diffs.

Not sure on the entire situation you were in with that seized shock bolt. But in general, if it was rusted, then once it cracks loose, you tighten it again and then back out a bit more. Keep going with this process to remove rusted and seized fasteners. If you don't sometimes you think you are good after it cracks loose only to have it gal up and snap on you.

Question I might have missed this on the thread what lift height did you do for your vehicle ?

I did the 2” OME lift. I actually got slightly heavier springs in the rear, so when it’s loaded down with gear, it still rides at 2”, however when I’m riding with no load it sits at about 3” in the rear.

Did you have to extend any brake lines? Thanks so much for sharing!

I did not extend any brake lines at first, and had no problems. Later I decided to extend them just in case.

Great effort but please keep the wheels you took off under the vehicle for added security. Safety first, you are trusting your life on two steel pins. Keep the videos coming.
