Yeah same here for the price it's exceptional. UI is a bit odd and the build instructions were not the best, it's a simple build but I did have to adjust a fair few things from experience. Produced a great Benchy with just a slight temp increase over the generic PLA profile and nothing else. Only thing I'd change is there should be a couple of bigger nozzles (0.8mm) as 0.4 over that build volume is a bit unrealistic. Anyway I backed the Phecda to go along with the Max and Saturn

I'd like to see you engrave glass. There are a few different ways you can do this. Easiest way is to have a sheet of black craft paper beneath it and then flip the engraving backwards as it will engrave where the paper is. Next easiest, and probably more reliable, is a matte black spray paint like chalkboard spray paint. On the top. After engraving, you can clean it off with acetone etc. It creates a tone of microfractures leaving a clouded appearance. The issue that you can run into with using a diode laser on glass is over-heating it and causing it to actually Crack. So it would be cool to see some settings with this specific laser engraver that work for you.
Would love to see you engrave some Yeti mugs. They come in all shapes and sizes so curious to see how the rotary attachment would work with something like that.
The roller style rotary attachment they're currently planning is not great for anything more complicated than a simple cylinder. I already suggested a chuck rotary attachment and they forwarded that to r&d so fingers crossed a better one will become available too. Heard it might be possible to use other brands too, like the great but expensive RA2 Pro from xTool.
@@Bazzdiver Yes, I could and I have done that in the past, but it's a hack, not a solution. Tapered cups need to be levelled, not sit straight on the rollers. It's very easy to ruin an expensive cup because it slipped on the rollers. It still doesn't solve the problem of handles.

Look into getting proper goggles, the green ones they included here don't actually block the wavelength of the laser. Wavelength is listed on the KS, and you can use that to cross reference with certified laser goggles. They're about $180+. Several of us backers have brought up to Elegoo that the goggles are incorrect and insufficient. We'll see if they fix it by shipping.

I backed it based on your livesteam, despite being quite nervous about the state of safety with inexpensive laser cutter/engravers. There are a boatload of enclosures for these out there and I'll definitely be getting one. From what I know, the one thing I'd say is to really thoroughly research any new material before engraving or cutting it. Lots of unexpected reactions are possible. I'm sure lots of folks have told you you have to be really careful to only use vegetable-tanned leather, but that kind of gotcha is really easy to stumble on. Be especially careful with using it on paints. Lots of stuff is stable and safe until it meets the unstoppable power of *LASERS*.
I would be interested in seeing how it does on different hardwoods. I like that it is a raised unit with legs that you can place even very long pieces of wood under to engrave
Hi, I recently purchased the phecda 10w, I did the test, 2 engravings, now I can't engrave anything anymore, can you help me? I checked all the parameters of speed and power (mm/min) but it seems as if the laser has no power and is unable to engrave. I would like to understand if I'm doing something wrong, or the laser I received is faulty. Thank you!

I ordered one but I am a bit worried about the eye protection, it is pretty lackluster. Perhaps the cheap glasses combined with the orange glass pane is enough?
I'm honestly not sure as I have no experience with these types of machines. I am looking into what other glasses options there are and I might look into making a printable adapter for another piece of acrylic. Then again I'm assuming its some sort of special light blocking ... dunno but will be looking into it
I'm a rockhound, and would love to see you engrave on stone. I follow another rock hounder on TH-cam that has a laser engraver, but not the Elegoo Brand Engraver. He had to use some painter's tape on some of the stones, but again, he was using another brand engraver. Thanks in advance!
Hello. What is better Algo Laser Delta, this Elego PHECDA, Creality Falcon2 or Ortur Master 3? I need the thinnest laser beam with cleaning air beam and precise mechanics.
Cutting acrylic on an open laser like this would create a horrible stank. I hate cutting acrylic because of smell on my epilog helix and it’s closed with a 4” exhaust so I would never do that on an open bed.

@Uncle Jessy Would a vinyl welding curtain be able to provide extra protection from this type of laser? I have a spouse and pets that freely wonder about and i'd like to prevent accidental exposure when possible. If a vinyl welding curtain can provide some protection but still allow me to visually monitor the Phecda what color curtain should I get.?
You can buy ready made enclosure with a laser protection window. I'm not sure if welding curtain would work, to protect you from the laser it would have to block 455nm light.
Seems like they have a little more to go before they release it. Like not having to home the gantry manually (this is the first machine I've heard that needs that), no air assist, rotary, a little clunky looking if I'm honest. They're apparently new so I'm sure they'll have other versions if this one sells

For my Diode, I pretty much always use Start from Current Position. Then I put the positioning laser where I want it to start, do a test frame to check, and go from there. Air assist is a must get, no enclosure option is a major issue. You should never leave your laser burning unattended, but without an enclosure you need to always wear your glasses. That doesn't play out well given many jobs can be 1 or many hours. I guess they have to start somewhere but I wouldn't touch this until this is addressed.
Open laser cutter or engravers without full protective enclosure should be illegal in the EU, who knows, maybe they are and these things get sold here anyway. Maker's Muse has made some great videos on how irresponsible those devices are, as others have mentioned here already too.
I held this view for a long time too, but if you're willing to take the steps needed to ensure your safety, they're fine. Also, the Phecda goes way further than any of the other diode lasers I've seen with regards to eye and fume safety. For the $240-400 KS price, you can easily buy a pair of certified laser goggles and a 3m respirator rated for laser fumes before even hitting the price of competition units without any safety features. Second, I'd like to say the only thing that needs to change with these machines is transparency with regards to the risks. 3d printers share many of the risks with fumes from the various thermoplastics being melted inside people's homes. Not as bad as laser cutters obviously, but it's hypocritical to parrot the 'dangers' of a machine while ignoring the dangers of a far more widely accepted machine. The idea of banning these machines is typical nanny state BS I'd expect from a European. Inform people of risks, don't legally prevent them from taking them, especially when simple steps can be taken to completely eliminate them.
In the shape and form that they are sold they are definitely not safe to use. You are either using them in an heavily modified form or you are using them in an unsafe fashion. Adding insult to injury one can not trust cheap Chinese "UV Protection" glasses either. So even if you operate those lasers in strictly access controlled spaces, you can't operate them safely unless you buy additional safety equipment and wear it at all time while the machine is powered on.
@@sagichnicht6748 no if you make a simple enclosure for them, wear the supplied eye pro that filters the light wavelength of the laser and use it well ventilated area it’s fine. Would you say an angle grinder or a drill is unsafe in the way they are sold? No probably not.
Certified goggles in this wavelength cost ~$170. $570 all in for a 20w laser and goggles (plus $50 for a respirator, and running the thing in my open barn) is still about 1/10th the price of a glowforge which locks you into their cloud ecosystem, or 1/20th the price of a full floor sized machine. It's worth it to try out my ideas. If they work, I'll use this to fund a more capable machine. Just be aware of the risks and how to mitigate them, don't regurgitate the fear mongering without actually educating yourself on the details of the risks. Also, 3D printing has its own fume problem that people willfully ignore as they run them day and night in their spare bedrooms, garages and offices. These 'non toxic' thermoplastics might not be as bad as the smoke and fumes off of a laser, but I'll be using the laser in a well ventilated barn with a respirator, which is far less risky than running a 3d printer in your bedroom.
@@roofoofighter With proper venting (not this tiny filter, enclosure + inline fan and venting outside) some plastics are safe to laser, but resin definitely isn't.
Could you test cutting vinyl sheet please? I would like to create my own stencils for painting and want to find out if laser cutter will melt too much on the edges.
You say this cant be left unattended and must be monitored the whole time its working and then don't tell us why, what are the specific safety hazards associated with this machine? is there a fire risk?
One note about Lightburn (amazing software) is that you do need to pay a yearly subscription 'if' you want to keep getting updates to it. They add new features all the time so it's well worth it and it won't stop working if you don't pay the subscription but you won't be eligible for updates if you don't pay the subscription. I use it on my CO2 laser and it's amazing.
From the note in the video it made it seem like you pay $60 once and then if you ever want to upgrade to current it's $30 once. Then I'd assume you just wait it out until you decide to upgrade again.. so not exactly a subscription but also not paying full price for software you already own.

I think acrylic needs a different type of laser as this one tends to transmit through the plastic

10W blue laser will not cut through acrylic.. or if so, it would take so long and look horrible.

These type of lasers cannot cut clear acrylic (lasers passes through them) they can do opaque acrylic though.
One thing I didnt think about until the other day (i backed this btw, cant wait) is using cardstock paper and having it cut out stencils!

Not as bad as laser cutters obviously, but it's hypocritical to parrot the 'dangers' of a machine while ignoring the dangers of a far more widely accepted machine. The idea of banning these machines is typical nanny state BS I'd expect from a European. Inform people of risks, don't legally prevent them from taking them, especially when simple steps can be taken to completely eliminate them.

In the shape and form that they are sold they are definitely not safe to use. You are either using them in an heavily modified form or you are using them in an unsafe fashion. Adding insult to injury one can not trust cheap Chinese "UV Protection" glasses either. So even if you operate those lasers in strictly access controlled spaces, you can't operate them safely unless you buy additional safety equipment and wear it at all time while the machine is powered on.
@@sagichnicht6748 no if you make a simple enclosure for them, wear the supplied eye pro that filters the light wavelength of the laser and use it well ventilated area it’s fine. Would you say an angle grinder or a drill is unsafe in the way they are sold? No probably not.

Who made this open frames lasers popular? this thing is so dangerous, I will never gamble my eyes on any open laser.
Certified goggles in this wavelength cost ~$170. $570 all in for a 20w laser and goggles (plus $50 for a respirator, and running the thing in my open barn) is still about 1/10th the price of a glowforge which locks you into their cloud ecosystem, or 1/20th the price of a full floor sized machine. It's worth it to try out my ideas. If they work, I'll use this to fund a more capable machine. Just be aware of the risks and how to mitigate them, don't regurgitate the fear mongering without actually educating yourself on the details of the risks. Also, 3D printing has its own fume problem that people willfully ignore as they run them day and night in their spare bedrooms, garages and offices. These 'non toxic' thermoplastics might not be as bad as the smoke and fumes off of a laser, but I'll be using the laser in a well ventilated barn with a respirator, which is far less risky than running a 3d printer in your bedroom.

@@roofoofighter With proper venting (not this tiny filter, enclosure + inline fan and venting outside) some plastics are safe to laser, but resin definitely isn't.
Could you test cutting vinyl sheet please? I would like to create my own stencils for painting and want to find out if laser cutter will melt too much on the edges.

Manually homing the laser before you start! Why? There's a setting in the device settings in Lightburn to auto home the laser on startup.

One note about Lightburn (amazing software) is that you do need to pay a yearly subscription 'if' you want to keep getting updates to it. They add new features all the time so it's well worth it and it won't stop working if you don't pay the subscription but you won't be eligible for updates if you don't pay the subscription. I use it on my CO2 laser and it's amazing.
From the note in the video it made it seem like you pay $60 once and then if you ever want to upgrade to current it's $30 once. Then I'd assume you just wait it out until you decide to upgrade again.. so not exactly a subscription but also not paying full price for software you already own.
