    Hi Myks, thank you for the video. I am a first time Diesel owner. I have a 2021 1500 Duramax got 18000 plus miles on it. I live in Cali. Couple of weeks ago check engine light came on, dealer said it was a Nox sensor (fixed it). Three days ago the check engine light came back on again🤬. Took it to the dealer, this time they told me the reason is a Bio Diesel. I've been going to the same Chevron gas station almost from the day one that I purchased my truck. They told me that it's ok up to 30% for Bio, however my truck had 50% Bio in the tank when they test it for Bio. Now they want $1200 for drain and filter replacement and warranty does not cover it🙄. The only thing that now makes sense to me after watching your video is that I left my truck sit in the driveway for more then a week, that could be the reason. But, from now on it's going to be pure diesel, no more that BS Bio. Sorry for a long comment😁. Maybe my situation will help others.

      So, I have an update 🙁. Took my truck to a different dealership. They said it was fuel injector module. Three weeks later picked from the dealer looked good 👍. Had my truck for three weeks (about 800 miles) check engine light is back on again 🤔. Run diagnostic, getting same message P026D, taking to same dealer. Will see what they going to say this time. At this point I'm thinking Lemon law.

    Thanks for this video! I have a 2021 Chevy Silverado with the 3L Duramax - 21,000 miles (in 1 1/2 years) mostly highway but some hauling 2 horse trailer. I average 30 mpg and just last week got my first tank of B20 - mostly cuz it’s cheaper - and 300 mi in I’m still at 30mpg. It does seem quieter so overall I’m a fan but I’ll have to see how it goes over the summer.

    Gorgeous ride. I just bought a Silverado 6500 work truck with a duramax. We have a few locations with biodiesel in Washington but few and far between. I was curious about what others experience was which is how I found this. My mechanic said that the more regular filter changes are largely due to remnants left in the tank from regular diesel built up from years of use. He recommends that if I switch to bio long term, just drop the tank and have it cleaned, and filter maintenance will be about the same. Good to know that it's an option where it's available and understanding the circumstances when it's not advisable

      Biodiesel does have a little lubricity, but has 1.1% less energy at maximum blend (B20) and draws moisture, also has more susceptibility to bacteria growth

    I use it all the time in my 2020 GMC denali its cheaper then regular diesel fuel but I always have at least 50% regular diesel fuel in my truck.
    I top off with 50% with bio diesel but i add amsoil Ctane boost with injector cleaner to my fuel tank when topping off with bio diesel and in winter time I add amsoil all in one which has a ctane booster injector cleaner and anti gel additive to prevent all of the possible problems you folks have been having above. When its all said and done I never had any problems what so ever even after thousands of miles on biodiesel. I sure as heck would not top off my whole tank with the stuff though.

      You don't need to add an injector cleaner or cetane booster with biodiesel(FAME, B20+, 1st generation Biodiesel) or renewable diesel(hydrotreated vegetable oil, R80+, 2nd generation Biodiesel). FAME is a powerful solvent and has a higher cetane than petrodiesel, and renewable diesel has a much higher cetane.

    • @Unique377
      @Unique377 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@ChaosViper67 That would depend on the state you live in. Here in California the Ctane levels vary dramatically and as for all gasoline and diesel fuels so does the quality cheaper gas doesn’t mean better gas same with diesel. Independent studies have been conducted and the quality and purity of fuels varied and most fuels just met the minimum standards in terms of performance so as an additional precaution i add Ctane and injector cleaner to my fuel when running bio diesel fuel mixture especially in a modern engine and have noticed cleaner fuel filters and combustion cambers with increased mpg.

    • @ChaosViper67
      @ChaosViper67 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I've heard of those studies but I'm pretty sure they were from years ago before they used HVO around 2011 and we're just regarding the typical petrodiesel blend P95B5. In my opinion the best blend you can get is Chevron's Renewable Biodiesel B20 that has at least 80% HVO and 5-20% biodiesel. If you're running petroleum diesel then the additives will help but with B20 the lubricity is higher than any additive available plus it cleans the fuel system and with the R80-R99 the cetane is already 65 minimum. I've heard from probably the earliest performance injector builder that there's no benefit above ~55 or 60 I can't remember.

    I have a 2022 2500HD Duramax. B20 is available here close to my house. It’s pretty much all I’ve used since I bought the truck new. It has 15k miles now. Lots of towing my bobcat, and small tractor. Seems to run great. According to my truck my fuel filter is now at 30% life. Chevrolet recommends it to be changed at 20k miles. Seems like that’s where I’ll land at the current rate. Assuming that even if I ran ULSD they also suggest 20k fuel filter change. Seems to be the same. The diesel mechanics in my area say that ULSD is massively dirty compared to B20 , and the lead tech says they have to add lubricants to ULSD. I don’t know much about diesel v B20 just that my truck seems to like it 😝

    I have a 2014 Chevy Silverado 1500 4.3L Ecotec3 V6 and I’ve been pumping E85 which is 85% Ethanol and in my opinion nearly the same as that bio diesel. I personally haven’t noticed any flaws to my engine since I’ve been using however I do notice I lose 2-3 mpg from when it’s regular gas E87. But for the price you really can’t complain $2.39 a gallon sometimes over here in Central California $50-$60 fills up my truck and I’m happy cuz that means more outings for the family.. I know it ain’t diesel, but I’ve been thinking a lot about that 2023 Chevy Silverado 3.0L LZO Duramax and how good the mileage on that bad boy can be even if I mild lifted it and added 22x14 on 305/40/22 Street Tires or possibly 33s A/Ts

      HPR is on the website propel fuels. Cetane rating up to 75+ also has lube added and not biodiesel but it is manufactured from biomass. Kind of a catch 22 there. They say 98 percent renewable content. Not sure if it is safe for a B20 rated engine. copied per website:
      "If you drive a diesel, then your vehicle is ready for Propel Diesel HPR - it’s that simple. Propel Diesel HPR meets the ASTM D975 diesel fuel specification (ULSD) for use in all diesel engines."

    • @OutdoorBoys.308
      @OutdoorBoys.308 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @Merlyn Priester I been using 76 diesel which is also 95 percent renewable like the hpr diesel they both say #2 diesel at the pump no problems so far. Manual does say compatible up to b20 or less however 76 and hpr diesel are renewable totally different the b5 or b20

    Of course it’s fine in very small doses perhaps but on a regular basis it will definitely cause major problems in my opinion… I feel everyone should be out raged that they are pushing this dirty fuel on us. It’s slightly cheaper here in California but definitely becoming more and more difficult to avoid at the stations. If the fuel pump I was out in my truck it’s extremely expensive… If that destroys the motor it’s absolutely devastating… We should not be tolerating this propaganda on renewable or bio anything… It comes from cooking grease and it’s disgusting

      You're thinking of raw vegetable oil. Biodiesel at the pumps is more refined. The diesel engine was designed by Rudolf Diesel to originally run on vegetable oils and grease. Cetane ratings are higher from biodiesel(FAME) and much higher from renewable diesel(HVO) and very high lubricity from FAME.
