      I would love to see all your sweaters, no need to pick your favourites 😁. It’s my favourite kind of video to watch. I like the hoodie sweater and the striped raglan from another video. I have only knit four sweaters so I am not too experienced. My favourite was the ramble jumper by Irene Lin. I really enjoyed the whole process including the yarn I choose.

    Hi Caleb, I just finished my 4th montrealer hoodie! Two months ago I wanted to knit a sweater again since a very very long time without knitting, and found this one through one of your videos. Immediately fell for it. I love it so much! I made one for myself, and then one for each of my 3 kids. And speaking about gender and knitting patterns/clothing: the montrealer is for everyone, my daughter and I love it as much as my sons. Thank you for making these videos, especially about everything sweater related.

    Wow, Caleb, you make me want to knit a sweater. I love the hoodie sweater that you made. I do like the other 3 also. I am teaching myself how to knit. I am knitting a shawl at the moment. I am planning on just knitting next year, putting my crocheting on the back burner. I am truly looking forward to practicing knitting items and not being scare. Thanks for showing your sweaters.

      I'm so happy you liked the video and found it inspiring! I am a big shawl knitter too... I need to share more about that! Shawls are such great projects... but I am sure you are fully capable of knitting a sweater. It's so much easier than it seems as long as you take the time to swatch first and make sure you gauge is right! I hope you enjoy your knitting adventures and I can't wait to hear more about what you're making!

    I don’t have a favorite knit sweater. Yet. I’m a beginner knitter. I’m literally working on my second project of all time currently. I love little videos like this cause they give me a good idea as to what to look forward to if I ever decide to tackle a sweater, so thank you! So far, I’m pretty sure I wouldn’t mind a montrealer once I’m more practiced. Thanks for sharing your list! I’d be curious to know the others in the like.

    Caleb, I really enjoy your videos, both the survey type videos, like this one with your 3 favorite sweaters, and more detailed videos. I see you have videos with specific tips for techniques, stitches/cast-ons, and even a sweater video for a beginner or “adventurous” beginner knitter, like me. I’m pretty good at following patterns but I plan on tackling my first sweater with your video(s). Have only watched it quickly up to now, but once I get the yarn, I’m going to work on my very 1st sweater! I live In the land of cactus & desert creatures, where we have only a couple weeks of “sweater weather” (a little before & after 12/21 each year), but I’m going to knit a sweater anyway. If I can’t wear it, It’ll knit a matching hat and donate it (there are several donation opportunities out there). I’ll let you know when it’s done - but I’m not fast, so probably not for our 2-4 week “winter” this year. Who knows, maybe we’ll get snow someday! I like your teaching style and look forward to working on something with new skills with you. Keep teaching! Thanks.

    My current favorite sweater is the Daytripper Cardigan - very approachable first steeked, and colourwork, pattern. Especially if you knit it out of very affordable Lettlopi and Plutloppi yarns. (I've knit two so far and plan to knit more for myself and as gifts...)

  • @kanke2147

    Im pretty new to knitting. Did a few pie of socks and just started my first try on a sweater. I'm following the flax light pattern because it's mostly pretty warm where I live and I want something I can wear for more than a couple of weeks a year. I love the three patterns you showed here, especially the hoodie. I might give it a try for the next project!

    • @DrowninginYarn
      @DrowninginYarn  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      A flax light sound perfect for a warmer climate! I think you would really enjoy the hoodie. You could always do it in a wool/cotton blend and I think you'd be happy with your fabric while still ending up with a garment that might be better I a less cold climate.

  • @ChelleC33
    @ChelleC33 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Oh yeah, the hoodie is definitely my fav in your 3. I’ll have to give it a try, but I’d use 8 ply (I think that is DK to you) because it’s not cold enough here very often to wear chunkier knits.
    I have only ever completed three jumpers, and one of those was a baby one. My fav of the three is a super-chunky mohair & wool jumper which was knitted on needles like telegraph poles. It was started and finished within a week. It has some cabling and a fairly high neck. I hardly ever wear it… just on astronomy nights a few times a year, but it was regularly worn when I was living in Milwaukee one winter (2013-14).

    I've only ever made one sweater and it took 20 years. Life got in the way. So now I want to knit one for me - a short sleeved summer weight one and I have a couple of patterns saved on Ravelry to choose from after I finish my holiday knitting. I'm not a fan of raglan though - as I'm short and a little petite and they tend to bunch up, so I'm looking at set in sleeves. As a person who also sews a bit, a set in sleeve is not scary. What scares me is trying to make a hat on a circular needle with too long of a connector. DPNs in a 5 are on their way.

    Hey I just recently subscribed to your channel. I dont crochet but I do use looms. I have a question. Do you stretch out the yarn when you make a project? Do you wet it? It will be very helpful if you answer these questions. I enjoy your videos so far.

    Great sweaters. You definitely have a preferred color palette - those rich earthy colors. I have only knit one sweater so far and am currently searching for my next pattern. I am trying to decide between a casual v neck or a color work sweater while I finish up my current project. (Stephen West’s shawlography which has been a wild ride for this basic knitter😃) I love the color work on the Otte Sweater but unfortunately the style is not one that would work for me. There are so many beautiful color work sweaters out there to choose from. It’s a conundrum.

      We're kinda in the same boat! I'm currently deciding on my first sweater and I'm also working on shawlography 🤯. I'm pretty far behind and as a knitting novice I'm thoroughly impressed by what I'm learning.

      I have definitely found the colors that I enjoy and stuck to them. Haha. I vote for a casual v neck for your next one... staple pieces like that are so versatile and you can mix and match them with so many different things to achieve a lot of different looks with one garment. But you can't go wrong with color work either :-)

      Did you happen to see my video with first sweater patterns? I think you'll find that a sweater is much easier than it might seem at first :-)

      Josie, if you can do shawlography you can do a sweater. In addition to the beginner sweaters that Caleb recommends in his previous video, the vanilla sweater is an easy top down raglan sweater.

    I've been really wanting to give the Nelson Pullover by Irina Anikeeva a go. It would be my first sweater but i am not sure if i can afford a sweater quantity of yarn that i would like to wear...

      Are you comfortable holding yarn double (or maybe triple depending on what you need to achieve gauge)? If so, you could check out Holst Garn on cones… one or two cones of Supersoft would likely be enough and would be lovely. Also, I haven’t used it but Valley Yarns from Webs are highly recommended by a friend of mine and they come in all kinds of lovely fibers with a discount when you buy certain amounts.

    In your June video about what experienced knitters do, you showed a color blocked sweater at your LYS. Can you send the info on that? I’d like to try that pattern-

    Love that Otte and as a female body with more narrow shoulders and I get wider heading south. Not familiar with that pattern. Does it go the other way?

    • @DrowninginYarn
      @DrowninginYarn  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm sorry... are you referring to the tapering? It decreases slightly as the body goes down. But you can easily omit that portion.

    I've been knitting for a little while. Haven't made my first sweater yet. Picked out the pattern and bought the yarn. Just Haven't cast on yet. I'm also into vintage things and have been buying vintage pattern books from eBay. Have you ever thought of purchasing vintage patterns instead of using just modern patterns?

    • @DrowninginYarn

      I haven't... There are so many gorgeous modern patterns already that inspire me :-) But it sounds like you're having fun with that which is awesome!

    Can you please explain why it's so hard to find Men's cardigan shawl neck patterns for worsted weight or lighter yarns..?
    My husband is a 56 chest and it's more cost effective to buy the yarn and make him the sweater he wants than pay $200 + for store bought one..
