Hi, I leave in the US . But I knit like you ,we called it combined knitting. Thanks to a German Friend , she thought me combined knitting. I was tought when I was a child to knit English style But from them on i only knit combined and will never go back. Combined knitting is fastest and I love it . Love the way you knit the sweater, but i wanted to learned to knit the arme hole differently like from top button . I have searched for this tutorial for months in every languages possible - I finally found yours and you made it so accurate - Well done, and.. thank you
Fabulous! I loved watching you knit just like my grandmothers taught me. They were German and Swedish. Interesting that you also pick up the stitch from the back of the needle for both the knit and purl. This is also the way that I was taught, but when I went for knitting lessons as an adult, they said I was doing it wrong and taught me a different way. Some tutorials now show “Continental” knitting, but they usually have the stitches slanted so that you go through the front of the stitch. I eventually figured it out and realized that the old way was better for me, more comfortable, and faster. It just goes to show there is no exactly “right” way, and if anyone is confused, there is a very good book called “Knitting the Old Way” that explains it all very well. That is a new way of doing an invisible cast on, it is fairly easy, and yours looks GREAT. I think I will try this method.
Thank you Jill for your comment! I was taught both ways and it's very personal how do you prefer to knit. I do both ways and even mix them if I find it more comfortable. So you're absolutely right, there is no right way, all of them right enough. We call the old one - grandma method :) enjoy your knitting!
My Aunt knitted the “Continental” method, and she could knit twice as fast as anyone knitting the English method. I think I have gotten almost as fast. The fact is that Continental method might vary between knitting flat and knitting in the round. You just have to do what works.

I found a pattern I want to knit for Christmas -- and I couldn't figure out how to decrease while continuing to work a patter -- its been about 30 years since I made a sweater like this! You got me started with enthusiasm! I will be watching the rest of the videos in this series so I can "regain" the knowledge of how to do this. I know its tucked away in my brain somewhere but I just can't find it!!!!!

I've started knitting this exact patern for my sister as an upcoming Christmas gift ( she loved it when I showed it to her!) and I have to say : I was really stressed because I've never knitted a patterned sweater before and have done only one work so far involving working on four needles at a time... And yet! I've already knitted the sleeves for the sweater, all thanks to your amazing video! It was very instructive, full of useful and easy to follow tips. I can't wait to start on the second video and follow along with my own knitting
I love the way you cast on half the sts then pick up for the increase after 3 rows of purl. Another game changer for me of 64 yrs knitting. As for the cast on ... Mum taught me to knit them on, but that leaves holes, however the way you do it with your thumb is how I do it now as it makes a neater edge.
Thank you for your wonderful tutorial on my favorite type of icelandic yoke sweater‼️ I've always wondered on how to neatly sew up the underarm, and join tbe body and sleeves to begin tbe yoke ‼️
Thanks for the tutorial; you knit beautifully and give great instructions. At first, I could not understand how you did the sleeve edge because it went fast, but I see you have another video on your channel showing that. Love the video and glad to come across a channel that actually shows knitting not show us what they made.

I would love to see a video of you doing the cast on part of the sleeve by itself! It looks so great but I wasn’t really following what to do when when you started picking up the stitches between the waste yarn. Love this sweater.
Thank you so much!!! I will try my first Icelandic sweater soon with alafosslopi wool :) Just in case you've never tried this technique, for small diameter circle, I love using two pairs of circular needles (with shorter cables, not really short but not super long so they don't dangle to much while you're working with the second pair on the other side of the sleeve) and you knit with one pair, then turn around and knit with the other pair...etc... round and round. since I tend to have tendinitis if I knit a lot, it has been great that way as it's more fluid in the posture than with 4 or 5 double pointed needles. (I used to always use the double pointed ones, but now I just love this method ^^) thank you once again for those great videos!

@@yuhaknitting Do you know what this cast on method is called? Could you do a video showing this in detail? It looks amazing! Thanks so much for this great video.
I'm using this pattern to practice continental knitting and try out some of these techniques - never seen this cuff start done this way before, and eager to try the neck bind off as well - and I tried out unpicking the waste yarn vs cutting and it works great. So if you wanna be able to use your waste yarn again, you can just unpick the cast on stitches after you to the pick-up increases round. :)

wow! such exciting news! I hope you will enjoy the process and make your mom looking forward to having new member of the family! By the way, in February-March I'm planning to start with some tutorials for baby and kids clothing, maybe you will find even more projects to knit :)
I would love another lopapeysa sweater tutorial in the same style as your balaclava tutorial--with measurements and a simple "guide" for how to calculate the number of stitches for every part! I made a balaclava so easily from your tutorial, but I can't do the same with this lopapeysa tutorial, not exactly.
Hi Alan! It is a bit more complicating because you have to consider the number of chart stitches and match it to the sleeves and yoke. The height of the yoke matters too as if you choose too thin yarn for the pattern made for thick yarn, you can end up having too short yoke. Therefore sweaters with colorwork mainly have one particular gauge.
This is so hard 😭 I have trouble controlling the tension, it's either too loose or too tight. Yarns are expensive so I really wanna do this right becuase its soooo pretty!
Hi your written pattern and your video pattern are not the same I should be following the witten or the video ? so confusing and you dont mention it in the video that thier is a difference with both ? e.g increase 2 sts every 10 rounds in the video and on written pattern every 8 rounds Sleeves cast on 36 sts for Large size on video cast 42 ?? they are all different you numbers. None the less your video and explaination are great ty love the pattern. But why the difference in the written and video Pattern ???
Thank you. This is a really concise tutorial. I understand all your instructions, thanks to your clarity. I did notice that you are purling through the back loop on the increase stitches. Is that necessary? Or is it your preferred method? I’m a bit late to this knitting party however, better late than never 😊. I’m enjoying your colour choices too. Thanks again.
Love your tuturial.I am a beginner knitting I am not that good at nothing but I would love to try this patterning I am going to try. Thank you so much for you video
So happy to find your video! I am making a cardigan but need to watch you do your sweater to be more confident. I am using their Plotulopi which is a one strand similar to knitting with thin roving so its my first time using this yarn. There are several Icelandic websites that sell the many different kinds of Icelandic yarn and they sell kits. They also have free patterns but they don't have the videos.
I had some problems to solve when I had knitted my first lopapeysa and there were not video explaining some details and no written instructions, that’s why I decided to make it 😊 thank you for appreciating
@@yuhaknitting My plates were not able to be drawn from the center. I did try numerous times but its been the best idea to unwind alot into a ball to work from. I just unwound it from the outside.
@@yuhaknitting Imagine knitting with thin roving and that will about sum it up. If you are not gentle as you knit it breaks. It is strong up to one inch apart so you can't loop it in fingers that regulate the tension. I found it works very well by a wrap method gently with my right hand. I am doing just fine with it but will be joining the sleeves etc using your video. Thank you!
I’m a little confused, I noticed you are purling through the back loops instead of the front loops??? I love the effect your beginning edge technique makes. It is very clean and professional looking.
Thank you for your comment Kristie! I'm not really focused on the methods of knitting and purling here :) after casting on, I just use the side that most convenient to not twist stitches. And it depends on how do you cast on stitches at very beginning. I believe it's more about how you r used to knit :) If the difference is too obvious, please let me know!
Thank you for the tutorial! For some reason my sleeve ended up having a very tight edge... I saw your other video suggests to use a bigger size needle for the cast on, wonder if it will help my other sleeve to not be as tight 🤔
I too love watching you knit. I am trying to re-train myself to knit your way as it is so much more efficient than the throw-over way I was taught as a child. Please can I make a suggestion? instead of the sped up sections where you voice-over, maybe you could do a slowed down video of you knitting the 'boring bits' while you voice over, to make it easier to watch exactly how you hold the needles and turn your hands etc.. for those of us who still have a lot to learn! Thank you so much for posting these videos. They have been a great help for me during a time of bereavement. Getting back into knitting again has given me comfort and helped me cope with my grief.
Thank you so much! Soon I will start your moose sweater, hopefully finished for my trip to Iceland next September! Do you wear a shirt underneath? Do these sweaters ever have turtlenecks? I can't wait to start, you are an amazing teacher.

thank you so much for these amazing tutorials! i can try knitting one now! what's the pattern for that beautiful navy, green, and yellow sweater at the beginning of the video?
What an amazing sweater, I will try to make it! There’s a yarn in my country called Lovikkagarn, can one used that instead? I think it's the same thinkness and it's icelandic wool.
Hello, thank you so much for this, it has given me the impetus to knit a first sweater. I have my yarn now (the Alafos Lopi) I see you purling through the back of the stitch, will it matter if I purl the way I know? or will that change something on knitting in the round? I look forward to starting having dwonloaded and studied the pattern. Regards, Peter

What a beautiful daughter you must be and you'll be a great big sister!
I hope your sweater turns out really well ❤
@@stephiedrown795 Thank you very much ▼・ᴥ・▼ The sweater came out looking very cute, my mommy was actually really happy about it
@@Min-cb4gp .You're welcome.
Bravo for the good result ! Enjoy your knitting and your new sibling.❤
Я ничерта не понимаю, но хочу связать такой свитер, спасибо большое за видео
Thanks!!! This is breathtaking and wonderful! I adore such sweaters and I have just started knitting!
Very very good video. Congratulations and many thanks.
I had a hand knitted lips or look sweater back in the 1970s when it became first popular as a fashion garment
I like how you do cuffs.
what a great video tutorial. Thank you so much. Very helpful !!
Beautiful! Thanks for sharing. I've just realised I favourited this pattern on ravelry last week!
Thanks for watching! 😊
Hayranlıkla izledim. Cok teşekkür ederim. Kemdim için faydalı bir kanal bulduğum için çok mutluyum.💝💐
Definately will knit one this winter. Thank u so much!
I love being inspired, thank you
I have had three attempts at this method of casting on them cutting the thread and I find it really difficult. Got better with every attempt though.
Amazing love fair isle designs brilliant I love it well done 👍 🇬🇧🌹🌹😊👏🏼🌹🌹❤️
Thanks a lot for the comment! :) It inspires a lot!
You knit beautifully.
Thank you so much for these videos!!
My pleasure!
Amazing watching your videos and had learned so much❤❤❤🙏
Beautiful sweaters. Funny colors And combination 🙌! I want to learn to knit.
I'm going to buy tools and yarns for the project! Thank you so much for tutorial ♥♥♥
May i ask you how many yarn do i need?... In the pdf are some numbers of the balls... 1 ball = 100g?
Thank you for replying!
@@irinaompad9051 In the chart with colors you can see the number of yarn pieces you need to get for your size :)
Can you make a video tutorial for knitting in the circle for this similar sweater in the whale design? That would be awesome!
Thankyou for the tutorial . It's so helpful
@@romy4593 I’ve never been using Plotulopi, therefore cannot give you any tips, but I know it’s tricky to knit from it
@@yuhaknitting Imagine knitting with thin roving and that will about sum it up. If you are not gentle as you knit it breaks. It is strong up to one inch apart so you can't loop it in fingers that regulate the tension. I found it works very well by a wrap method gently with my right hand. I am doing just fine with it but will be joining the sleeves etc using your video. Thank you!
@@romy4593 I’m wondering how you going to seal the armholes 🤔 maybe you can use another yarn same color that is stronger
What a lovely tutorial ❤thank you
I’m a little confused, I noticed you are purling through the back loops instead of the front loops???
Try using bigger needle if you knit tight, it normally helps. Or 2 needles put together for even looser edge
Beautiful work dear
This is so cool! I'll admit, I still don't understand how you did all of that but I really wanna make a sweater and this looks so comfy!
Absolutely gorgeous!
Really informative and helpful 👍
Beautiful work. I would never be able to do this.
Amazing work!! Thank you 🙏 😊❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
I love this tutorial. thank you so much!!
Thank you for this tutorial!!
Wonderful to discover you!
Thank you Linda!
Your sweaters are outstanding! The Stephan by Stephan tutorial as well! In the very beginning you turn pages in a book with the most beautiful patterns. How can I get /this book?
Beautiful sweater! Thank you for sharing.
thank you so much for these amazing tutorials! i can try knitting one now!
what's the pattern for that beautiful navy, green, and yellow sweater at the beginning of the video?
Очень красиво!👍🏻💐
What an amazing sweater, I will try to make it! There’s a yarn in my country called Lovikkagarn, can one used that instead? I think it's the same thinkness and it's icelandic wool.
what a beautiful video!
Lovely video, started making my sweater, very exciting! I was wondering why the numbers of the pdf pattern are different from the ones in the video
This is just AWESOME. Thank you so much!
What a tidy cuff ❤
This is just amazing !!!!!!
