  • Have you ever wondered what happens if you switch the Positive and Negative Battery terminal when you jump start your car. Well, we decided to demonstrate you. We have tested on many vehicles and we decided to show you what happens, what gets damaged, and how to fix your car if it happens to you.
    We have heard so many people to say that you will fry the ECU and it will need to be replaced.
    We are testing in in the video and you can find out what actually happens.
    WE DO NOT RECOMMEND TO DO IT ON PURPOSE!

    These are the best type of videos and example of what to do with something goes wrong and how to fix the problem. The great thing is you at least you have no idea of how the mechanic will fix the problem if you do not feel comfortable doing it yourself.

    If your battery was flat there would be a good chance you blew the rectifier diodes in the Alternator with that demonstration. They will blow way before the fuse does. You will only notice it a few days or weeks from now.

    Ashamed to say I had done this to my moms 2011 jetta. First things I check all the fuses 1 was blown. Replaced it not the issue. Checked the main fuse right off the battery cables headed to the fuse box under the hood. That was intact. Checked with a test light all my fuses under the hood had power. The fuze box under the steering wheel lost power to about 30% of the fuses had no power. Proceeded to check if the ignition was broken it checked out. I have hotwired one of the 15 amp fuses from the battery and jumped the starter it started no problem. I believe the issue is a fryed contol module. I'll keep you updated with my findings

    How do you fix it if it's a Toyota Prius 2007

  • @TheTechCguy
    @TheTechCguy 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Also, make sure the running car is turned off BEFORE you connect the cables! This will prevent arcing, as seen in this video, fire, injury, and death. I see that as a rookie mistake when I see people do that.

      You've seen actual deaths from this ?

    • @TheTechCguy
      @TheTechCguy ปีที่แล้ว

      @@GuerthysGrowlers No, but I've heard that it can cause it. That explosion it produces can be enough for the person to sustain injuries that could be fatal.

    My old Mazda's battery terminal cover was grey from age & I did this today. Killed a perfectly good jump pack & blew the main 80a fuse...oops

    my neighbor claims I broke his car... his car wouldn't start so he asked me to give him a jump. I pull my car up, both cars are off, I hooked up cables to my car then started it, i accidentally touched cables together on other end and there were a few sparks. I then hooked them up to my neighbors car. his car still wouldn't start after 15 minutes but claims I damaged his car because the connectors touched. but they weren't even hooked up to his car yet and he won't show proof that he took it to a mechanic that said that would cause his car not to start.

      he is full of crap. there is NO POSSIBLE WAY ON EARTH that shorting the cables while only hooked to YOUR vehicle, BEFORE trying to jump a DEAD CAR would cause ANY damage to said DEAD CAR. Damn... you want to be a good neighbor - but sometimes your neighbor is a crack head

    I did this accidentally on my 2009 Toyota Corolla. The horn sounded. Weird. Then I noticed a few blown fuses. AM1, AM2, and I tbi k a radical fuse. Central locking didn't work, ignition, radio, OBD2, etc. I replaced fuses and the car DID start (roughly) then stopped and blew the AM1 AND AM2 fuses again

    You got lucky
    90% of the time it fries the ECU when you do that the main ones that do are BMW,Mercedes and Audi
    Don't ask me why but for some reason they are very sensitive to that

      German cars in general are sensitive. I own an E39 and I love the car a bunch but omg the dash lights come on for the smallest issues! It's an amazing car though otherwise which is why I don't mind fixing it often. Would much rather have this car than a mundane Japanese car.

      hey what about if you only hook up the negative to the positive by mistake? I went to pickup a new car and i had to use my audi to boost it. I connected the cables to the second car (acura) first and it was dark and the hood wouldn't stay up so i fucked up at just lightly touched the black to my positive but i didn't hook them both up. I was able to drive my car fine later but recently it started stalling and was getting EPS message i think, i forget ECU or ESP or something but I think there were signs of this problem before this event.

  • @soldatheero
    @soldatheero 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    what if only one is hooked up to the second car? I had a dead car and i put the cables on that car first (properly) and then I accidently touched the negative of the first car to the positive on the second car could that fry the computer? they both ran fine for like a 40 minute trip after this event but recently i seem to be having an issue

      This is normal, sensors would report a short circuit to ground when they are backyards or shorted which is right lol. I scanned one of the cars that was hooked up reversed polarity and had these reports lol.

    Anytime a short is created in your cars electrical system or any electrical equipment. Always check the fuses first.

  • @HCkev

    0:14 That's why you plug the positive cable to dead battery first, then positive to live battery second, and THEN proceed with the negative cable. You don't want to accidentally drop energized positive cable on a grounded piece of metal (negative)... Hopefully he didn't drop the red one.

    Always pay attention when you’re jumpstarting a car because if your battery is like leaking fluid or has cracks in it then if it sparks and it could explode or something.
