    If you’re an x-drive owner, you’ll get an AWD and DSC failure warning after doing the reset procedure in this video. Don’t panic - easy fix. Put in key, start car. Turn steering wheel all the way to left stop, then turn all the way to right stop. Warning disappears.

    It has been my understanding that, rather than touch the two disconnected leads to one another, one should connect them via a resistor so that the drain is slower so that any sensitive parts of the electrical system would not experience an excessive amperage. Any thoughts if this is correct or not?

    • @lamaq101
      @lamaq101 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      If you're connecting the power terminals together without the battery connected surely there won't be any amperage spikes as the battery is no longer attached to provide any power? My understanding is that this method will only drain any residual power held in the electrical systems. I'm open to be corrected, just my thoughts on the topic

    Great video. Also, can better perform the discharge of internal memory circuit capacitors by disconnecting the negative post, for safety purposes then connecting the lose negative cable to the positive cable without removing the positive post cable, and only approximately 30 seconds should suffice. Turning on power circuits like the lights is a great idea, but I doubt that the circuit in the lights have anything to do with the engine performance as the intelligent battery sensor reports incoming and outgoing charged particles, but I will try and see if I find a difference, if I do, I'll report back. Lastly, throw a rag over the battery negative post, just in case, to avoid completing the circuit. I find all your videos a wealth of information. Thank you.

      Re light and the engine... I once had some bad electronics on a headlight that would pull more amps that it should, which apparently ment less total amperage was left for the other parts?

  • @craigjulian7100
    @craigjulian7100 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    We call this a Hard Reset in North America. It won't clear hard faults, but it may clear erroneous ghost faults that ISTA won't clear. All that this does is discharges the capacitors in the modules that would have stored power at the time. This doesn't work all the time nor will it fix the hard faults or non-hard faults. Once the car is restarted and possibly even driven, if the faults are legitimate, the faults will return. This sometimes is a good diagnosis technique for particular situations; key words: sometimes and particular.
    Dean: I am still awaiting an email from you in regards to ISTA with Motorrad. Hopefully I hear from you in regards to this.
    Cheers

    Hi Dean I have a 2015 740 LI drive. And my instrument cluster went bezerk. I lost all the gauges from one day to the next. There were no indications that it was going bad. Can I try this method on my car. Without having to reprogram the car?

  • @wolvoman1
    @wolvoman1 3 ปีที่แล้ว +18

    Doing this will not fix your car, all it will do is reset all settings to default, just like a reboot to the system
    It will extinguish all warning lights and modules, however if the fault persists then eventually the warnings will reappear, so it does not fix it.
    (If you dont know your radio codes you will need them)

    I have watched way too many of these DIY "almost fixes". I have learned a great deal about the complexities of my 2 750Li's....that being said having two 2008 7's allows me to try things on 1 car while leaving the other alone. I am no master mechanic, but what I have discovered is these vehicles are covered with sensors. 99% of the time if a warning light comes on there is NOTHING WRONG with the car. You have to understand BMW expects you to freak out and take it in. If you are wealthy and lucky it gets fixed. If she's sick you will know. For instance, are you aware the sensor in the fuel tank that stops the pump from overflowing can come loose and it takes 5 times as long to fill your tank? It's a pain, and it makes the check engine light come on. There is nothing wrong with the car/engine. A good mechanic can solve it for less than 100.00 US. Toying with a BMW battery can result in other issues. All BMW's should have a trickle charge to ensure critical CPU parameters. For example....I am still fighting (in court at this point)a BMW dealership that tried to screw me on the soft-close recall....I have internal documents stating the importance of a trickle charge while fixing the latch defect. The morons neglected this resulting in about 5 coding failures which I personally had to reset....pinch protection comfort access....Remember the CPU talks to the battery to be able to convey to the alternator the charge needed....If you have a good BMW mechanic trust her/him, and please verify what I have stated. Don't mess up your car.

    Good day. Thanks for your videos, always very helpful. I tried your method to reset the car (2006 E90 320D Man) and I am sure Idid it correctly. I do however think my issue with my car could possible be something different. My key fob remote opens the car and opens the boot but does not lock the car. The first time this is happened I realised one of the windows were not fully closed. I got back into the car switched on the ignition and closed the window. Used the key fob to lock the car and it locked. Thereafter I found I had to open the windows fully and reclose them before the key would lock the doors. Now nothing I do helps. Have you ever come across this problem before? Any advise would really help. Thanks alot. Alfred from South Africa.

    I had the PO302 code on a 2004 330ci. I replaced the coil first; still a problem so logically I went to the #2 injector. After installing it, re-connecting the battery (which by disconnecting reset the ECU) and starting the car the idle was perfect, it drove perfectly so I thought problem solved. Later that evening. 6 hours later I started the car and it idled roughly again, threw the code again. Could this be a software problem in the ECU or a compression problem in cylinder #2?
