I love your channel. It feels like TH-cam used to be when it started. Honest, not trying to sell things or bragging excessively about things. It feels like being with a friend and sharing. Keep going!
That's great to hear in part you started the channel to improve your communication. I think you come off as a very sincere and genuine person, really enjoy watching your stuff.
Your channel came up just a few days ago and I think I've watched all of your videos already. I think I enjoy you talking about why you love games and the amount of nostalgia I get with each watch. Also, Pajama Sam, Cartoon Network's games, alongside Tony Hawk and Backyard Soccer are things I haven't thought about in forever lol. I also studied Public Health although I gravitated towards a different direction. Keep up the good work!
Saw this video in my feed today. Watched it. Honestly cried a tiny little bit. Slightly more than that maybe. I always wanted to bond with my kids over computers and video games and I never got the opportunity. As a school teacher I did get the opportunity to introduce my students into some things that I love. I recently had the amazing opportunity to teach one of my overseas students to completely disassemble and upgrade a macbook that was never meant to be upgraded and that was really cool. As a tech, enthusiast, gamer teacher and father, one of the greatest joys in my life would be to see someone that I had taught grow up and start a TH-cam channel talking about that topic in such a clear and succinct and interesting and passionate way. So shout out to your dad for being awesome and you've got one more subscriber today. Keep it up. Love your work.
Aww thank you so much for sharing! It's always wonderful to hear how teaching can significantly impact other lives. I would love to also help inspire more people (especially young ones) in the future :)
Congrats on 1k Emily! Really happy to have you as a content creator here on youtube, and would also love streams on here or twitch 😊. Can't wait to see you grow as a creator Edit: I'm in my 30s too, so that makes me happy that you're also a little older lol. Although I'm still a lil older than you at almost 36 😢
Been binge watching a lot of your older videos (working my way through all of them!) and thank you for sharing your passion and talking about games as a whole, to the great videos about retailers and where to get games, factoring in pricing, availability, accessibility etc etc, stellar content and work. Also it's rare to see someone share so many common interests in titles i like myself, one being the Trails of Cold Steel / series as a whole being my favorite JRPG series ever as well, to your overall affinity in interests for similar games! Keep up the amazing work Emily :)
When I subscribed you had about 2,900 subs, and that wasn’t that long ago. Now you’re almost at 7,000! Congrats! You deserve it, you have a great channel and are so knowledgeable about games. I expect it will continue to grow fast.
Over 1k subscribers in just a couple of months, bravo Emily, your channel is cruising! I look forward to seeing where your channel goes from here. I liked your gaming origin story. Your dad seems pretty cool.
I am so glad you are finding success in your endeavor. I work nights, so I literally just woke up and came right for youtube hoping to see this! As someone mentioned earlier, so inspire those of us with anxiety. Your content is appreciated on many levels, Emily. If I ever drum up the courage to launch my own channel proper, it will be because of creators like you.
Thank you so much! I really appreciate all the support you've given me, and I hope you decide to make a channel someday! Starting was the hardest part for me. I kept second guessing how I should go about it without all the fancy equipment and editing skills that other creators have. But once I made that initial plunge it got a little easier, especially when I saw every new video as an opportunity to practice and grow :)
Nice q&a vid! Really impressed with your occupation. Good on you. And using TH-cam to practice your verbal communication skills is very common. I did the same thing upwards of 10 years ago when I started
Congratulations on 1k, I'm a recent subscriber and really love the content I've seen so far! As a 32 year old considering graduate school I think it's awesome you kept your passion alive through all the school you've taken! Best wishes going forward!
Thank you so much! And I wish you the best in your future endeavors! Grad school can be hard, especially if you've been out of school for awhile. But it can be a very rewarding experience all the same :)
Congrats on 1000! i found your channel because of your "Recent Pick-Ups & Games I Played in May 2022" video, which was great! Now I find out in this video that you're a One Piece fan!? Thumbs up!!
True! I remember when I was a child I used to play these flash games on the cartoon network website, specifically a ben 10 fighting game I’m still looking for to this day. I think it was around 2007 when I played these flash games
Nice! Yeah the tv network flash games were an iconic time. I used to play the early 2000 games I want to say (I forget exactly when started these), for programs like Johnny Bravo, Courage the Cowardly Dog, and other old ones like that haha.
Thank you! Tbh I haven't tried too many survival horror games outside of the first Bioshock (which I've been meaning to replay actually). But I should really dive more into that genre when I get a chance :)
Congrats on the channel growth !! and I can relate to wanting to practice verbal skills since I have a verbal communication disability and having to talk on a consist basis really helps but I still stutter sometimes and most notorious I have a hard time reading peoples names lol I've gotten so much better with a lot of trial and error so please don't feel embarrassed cant wait to see your channel grow 💙
Thank you!! I've found making videos really helpful so far with delivering the thoughts that sometimes get jumbled around in my head. I've always had a difficult time conveying things I've wanted to say in a concise & smooth way, especially when directed towards multiple people. I still have a long way to go but it's all about taking those baby steps :) And I'm glad to hear that practice from things like YT has helped you as well! Also I've been meaning to tell you this but I've been a long-time lurker on your channel and really love what you do on there, and how you've evolved your channel over time :)
Thank you so much!! 😊 I actually recently discovered your channel & have been a bit shy to comment on your videos. But I'll try to remedy that soon~ We share quite a few favorite franchises like Fire Emblem :)
Congrats on the 1K milestone! I'll always appreciate VideoGamesPlus, PNPGamesOnline, and a few other recommendations you've shared. Basically made me realize the alternative to get retro games was under our nose in Canada. I respect that verbal communication skills reason. I'm always good at talking to people, but never good at ending conversations. Which leads to me rambling till they initiate the closure lol I have noticed you're building confidence over time, but always came off as genuine. I know One Piece is a very intimidating franchise to catch up on, but without spoiling anything. It's worth trying to catch up little by little. Oda is setting up something very big soon to the point he's on a 1 month break right now. Resuming July 25! Also One Piece's 25th anniversary will be on July 22nd, and there's gonna be English streams for the 2 day celebration. I'll link them here for you or anyone interested below: th-cam.com/video/XWmGiQqcOII/w-d-xo.html th-cam.com/video/xiH0pqg1TyI/w-d-xo.html Sorry for the rambling, and congrats again!
Yeah the Canadian shops have been really a great alternative, especially here in the US! For me I'm usually ok talking in small groups in casual settings, but when it gets to multiple people my anxiety kicks in & I'm especially awful whenever I have to present something, even if it's something I'm an 'expert' in. So I've been trying to work on making concise but interesting statements with a smooth delivery 😅 And I'm been trying to catch up as fast as possible on One Piece before I accidently come across spoilers. I keep hearing how the recent arc is some of the best writing yet, so I can't wait to finally see how everything is unfolding :)
@@orbalology Yeah! I also get my odd anxiety moments, and even when I've prepared in advance. Sometimes you just have 1 little detail not go as planned, and have to improvise. Which at times can jolt anxiety causing you to lose track. I've learned to be at least humble and laugh at yourself to ease up those mistakes. Experience and familiarity builds confidence.. Also yeah I like that we don't pay taxes and VGP ships free if I go over their $80 limit. Which is easy to meet given how many sought after items they've got available. I won't spoil One Piece, but yes Oda's writing has been very ballsy as of late.
I have some good memories playing RuneScape back in the day, it felt like such an accomplishment after I spent a whole summer training to beat Dragon Slayer so I could finally wear full rune. I'm glad they brought back that version. Great Q&A and congrats on the 1k.
Thanks! I've been thinking about revisiting Old School semi-recently actually - it may be fun to relive some of those memories. Though I've gotten content with modern quality of life improvement from other games so I'm sure I'll be more impatient with things like grinding 😂
@@orbalology I made a new account last year just to replay through the f2p quests and it was pretty nostalgic but RuneScape was definitely always about the grind lol
Oh you played SSX Tricky too!? And yeah the DDR pads were so iconic back then. Pretty sure the ones we had got tossed at some point, they took up so much space 😂
Oh nice! Yeah epi is an interesting field. Has it's problems like the other fields but there are some great applications that can positively impact public health and related areas.
Thanks! And haha I've used both but most people who work with medical/public health data (outside of some academic settings) tend to stick with the standard classical approaches & don't deviate much from those. So frequentist 😂
I shared flipping through my childhood PS2 collection not too long after uploading this 1K special :) Haha, I played around with all the different races in WOW but probably spent the most time in Alliance.
Always the pretty girls that are the math brainiacs 😂 but cool that you’re in the medical field. Same here. I’ve spent most of my adult life working in a pediatric advanced life support ambulance and critical care advanced life support. I need to finish up my nursing degree 😅. This was an awesome video. I enjoyed it 👌🏾
That was a nice gaming background. I also feel so much nostalgia for the GBC, actually #1 and #2 favorite games of all time for me, are in that platform. Digimon survive, looks awesome, I dig more into it, I'm also that kind of person who liked both pokemon and digimon when I was a child. In Digimons case I prefered a lot more the series rather than games (from 1 to 4, after that I lost the track, but yeesh I loved so much digimon adventure and digimon frontier, the latter being so underrated and hated for the fandom). And yes, manga> anime, there are a few exceptions to that rule, like Shingeki no Kyojin, Kimetsu no yaiba or Jujutsu kaisen. But generally, manga is so much better. I started reading pirate manga😅 but now that I work, I'm supporting the industry with a Crunchyroll subscription. If they ever release something like it, but with mangas, I would do it as well. Manga plus is an official app, but they only count with the first 3 and last 3 episodes for manga, so it's not good to read something from scratch. You definitely need to catch one piece up, it's been crazy lately in the manga ! Nice video Emily ! Congrats again for the 1K.
Thanks 😄 Which GBC games are your favorite btw? For Digimon I've only played the Cyber Sleuth games, but I agree back in the day I was also preferred the Digimon show over Pokemon. And yes I really need to catch up on One Piece, I keep hearing amazing things 😅
@@orbalology hello, Emi. I've left you many hints😁 my fav games are Pokemon Blue and Pokemon Gold, my environmental footprint was big as a child, thanks to those batteries. It's really hard for to pick one or the other. Pokemon blue was the first Pokemon I played, but pokemon Gold has so many cool things xD. I think Gold has the upper hand. It's my favorite franchise ever. I loved the show as well, but there were some chapters that didn't hit me emotionally, whole Digimon somehow had some mature moments, and death took place many times, specially in Tamers and frontier. I played a digimon game on PSOne, but i don't remember its name. Try to avoid spoilers! Some things are going to be so cool, that you better not know it, till you read it/watch it. Since I made you do a top 5. Here is mine. - Pokémon gold (GBC) - Pokémon Blue (GBC) - MegaMan X (SNES) - Crash Bandicoot Warped (PS1) - Bloody Roar 2 (PS1) Such good old memories.
Oh cool picks! I just played the equivalent pokemon games (yellow & silver in my case) from your list. Maybe one day I'll get around to trying some of the other ones :)
@@orbalology thank you! Very nostalgic ones, but you know, some feelings as a child are quite harder to replicate as you grow up. But climax as a gamer, was climbing to the top of the MT. Silver. after winning all 16 badges, beating the Elite 4, beating the Champ, coming from defeating Blue. suddenly I see a guy in the peak, I talk to him, we get into battle, I read his name "trainer red" I see his team , 8 yo realized I was against myself who passed Pokémon blue. That feeling is just so hard to describe. Also his lvl 81 Pikachu oneshot my whole team xD. You should try MegaMan X, it's one of the best platformer game ever done, a true legend. The physicis of that game is so well done to be a 1993 year game (my birth year BTW). Also I'm surprised you haven't played crash Bandicoot, it's another cool platformer. Legendary, as well The last one you wouldn't like it, it's a fighter game, but the characters are so cool they can turn into beasts, i remember playing it a lot with friends and my brother.
Making videos definitely helps with your confidence and anxiety especially when you can kind of converge your TH-cam persona and IRL persona into one. I have ADHD and it definitely helped reduce the problem where I sometimes skip words when I'm excited because i'm already thinking about what I'm going to say next. Regarding your quick growth, there are a lot of things that go into the algorithm, but I'm pretty sure TH-cam does something similar to tiktok and other social medias where they have AI face recognition prioritizing videos in the algorithm that include overall-attractive people. So if you are averagish or better looking and show your face for much of your video, it'll bump you up over videos from similarly sized channels that don't include any human faces or include unattractive human faces or grainy footage that messes with the facial recognition. You also get super penalized in the algorithm if you get copyright claimed, so usually your own face is also not claimable and safe to use.
It's great to hear that YT has helped you in that way! And hmm, I'm not sure if the YT algorithm has integrated that facial recognition sort of technology yet. It can certainly help with the click through rate and retention though, which I've heard are key factors that go into the algorithm. I feel like YT wouldn't want to penalize channels that don't show their face, like commentary & animation channels. There are so many creators that don't show their face on the platform so I'm sure that wouldn't go over well if they tried to be more like Tiktok in that regard.
@@orbalology I could be misremembering, but I could've sworn I heard something along those lines a few months ago. Definitely not a huge factor though, the algorithm is driven primarily by engagement, current trends, viewer retention and meta tags although I've heard tags are currently being nerfed a bit. I also did an experiment earlier this year and went full stream of consciousness in the description of a video to put as many specific nouns as possible and that video got many more clicks than I've gotten lately.
Oh interesting, did that help you with YT search or YT homepage recs by chance? I've started looking closer at the YT analytics and they're interesting. For a new channel there's not a much info you can really extract from it for the most part but it's been fun to look at the trends & demographic dynamics.
@@orbalology Increasing searchability was my theory and it does have a higher a TH-cam search rate and more unsubbed views and a much, much higher Google search rate. The only con is I feel like my description reads like those Google translatated scam how-to sites that give terrible advice.
Thanks! And the two concerts I saw were Korean artists (but I also really love their Japanese discography). The first was one of my favorite rock bands FT Island, and the second was a member from my favorite group Junho from 2PM :)
I am still interested how you manage to get all those games! Those games you just showed us are a bit expensive! I barely get the games that you have to my collection.
@@yumyumrazon Most of my high valued 3DS games I bought years ago, though I managed to pick up a few recent titles mostly from the VideoGamesPlus site for a decent price. And for the Vita games I mostly just wait for used copies to pop up on eBay or Mercari for decent prices 😅
It's surprising that felt you needed to work on your verbal communication skills. Your videos are clear easy to follow. Also I would have pegged you at around 25.
You're seeing the edited version (with my simple jump cut edits), so trust me the raw footage is a bit more of a mess 😂 And I think my demeanor can make me seem a bit younger at times 😅
@@orbalology well I'm sure you'll get better at it as you make more content. Also it's cool to hear your dad was gaming with you from the beginning. I think I got my dad to try playing tetris like once lol.
That could work. I'll need to figure out how I would want to balance it, especially when games can often feel a bit unbalanced themselves during a playthrough. I'll figure out something :)
I'm honestly not the best person to ask for monitor advice unfortunately. I mostly play handheld games with the exception of a PS4 which I just hook up to the tv 😅
I just found your channel out this week (went on a MetalJesusRocks binge and suddenly uou showed up in the recommended haha!) and lo and behold, you’re already at over 2k, damn!! Congrats on the very fast growth for this niche!!
A lot of 90’s kids grew up playing a Gameboy and 2000’s kids grew up playing a GBA and/or DS. Agreed I’m not interested at all in the majority sports games, no offense to anyone but I’m not interested in playing a football game because I can go outside and play football but I cannot go on a epic quest in a fantasy world to fight evil and save a kingdom and get the girl. But I can do that in a video game.
@@orbalology Oh I’m also looking forward to Xenoblade Chronicles 3 (I still love the first one) and Digimon Survive. A shame that both of them are coming out on the same day, I’m concerned this will effect Digimon’s sells. I’m tempted to purchase both day one but who has time for that? Lol
I love your channel. It feels like TH-cam used to be when it started. Honest, not trying to sell things or bragging excessively about things. It feels like being with a friend and sharing. Keep going!

Bayesian or frequentist?
Cool video though and congrats on the growth of your channel!
Thanks! And haha I've used both but most people who work with medical/public health data (outside of some academic settings) tend to stick with the standard classical approaches & don't deviate much from those. So frequentist 😂
Binder of loose games!? You have to show us! Also...
Horde or Alliance?
I shared flipping through my childhood PS2 collection not too long after uploading this 1K special :)
Haha, I played around with all the different races in WOW but probably spent the most time in Alliance.
Gonna' go find it now, thanks!
also nice! Any race is fun in wow. Their lore around races, and everything is super interesting.
Wait so you're Dr. Orbalology :O Women in STEM!
👩🔬 😄
Always the pretty girls that are the math brainiacs 😂 but cool that you’re in the medical field. Same here. I’ve spent most of my adult life working in a pediatric advanced life support ambulance and critical care advanced life support. I need to finish up my nursing degree 😅. This was an awesome video. I enjoyed it 👌🏾
Glad you enjoyed! And best of luck with finishing up your nursing degree. The medical field is a very rewarding one to be part of :)
you look 10 years younger, I'M SHOOKT
Congrats on 1k!
Thank you! 😄
Look ma, I'm in a video! Good stuff!
😄
- Pokémon gold (GBC)
- Pokémon Blue (GBC)
- MegaMan X (SNES)
- Crash Bandicoot Warped (PS1)
- Bloody Roar 2 (PS1)
Such good old memories.
Legendary, as well
The last one you wouldn't like it, it's a fighter game, but the characters are so cool they can turn into beasts, i remember playing it a lot with friends and my brother.
Congrats!!
Thanks! 😄
Congratulations
Thanks! 😄
Hi Emily! Congrats on 1k subs! You deserve it!🥳 Who did you see perform in Japan if you don't mind me asking?
Thanks! And the two concerts I saw were Korean artists (but I also really love their Japanese discography). The first was one of my favorite rock bands FT Island, and the second was a member from my favorite group Junho from 2PM :)
@@orbalology That's awesome! I'd love to see my favorite Korean artists in concert too some day! :)
Concerts are really the best! Who is you favorite Korean artist(s) if you don't mind me asking? 😄
@@orbalology I don't mind at all! My favorite groups are Red Velvet and GFRIEND, and I also love Taeyeon's music. ☺️
Oh I really like all of them too! I'm super excited for SNSD's comeback this August :)
I am still interested how you manage to get all those games! Those games you just showed us are a bit expensive! I barely get the games that you have to my collection.
Oh, which games do you mean? Are you referring to the ones in this video from my early gaming years or another video? 😅
@@orbalology Those Vita games and those 3DS games. They are expensive here in my area.
Congrats
im 26 and love collecting ps vita and nintendo switch games i wish i met a woman as awesome as you
It's surprising that felt you needed to work on your verbal communication skills.
Haha. My mom is similar, though I managed to get her to try Monument Valley and those types of games which she enjoyed. It's the little wins 😂
10:00 This has probably been commented before, but I hope GBA games (and eventually all of Nintendo's vault) come to Switch Online.
It's a such a shame & missed opportunity they haven't done this yet.
Nice video
I remember Lego land pc from school
I played so much of that game. Really loved designing the parks & unlocking all the different themes 😂
casual reviews are nice at the end of the month but maybe reviews after a few hours into the game would also work.
That could work. I'll need to figure out how I would want to balance it, especially when games can often feel a bit unbalanced themselves during a playthrough. I'll figure out something :)
heyy can you suggest which monitor.i should go for my xbox series s 1440 will be suffice ya 4k ?
I'm honestly not the best person to ask for monitor advice unfortunately. I mostly play handheld games with the exception of a PS4 which I just hook up to the tv 😅
@@orbalology no problemo
I’d like to hear your opinions of games. Don’t call them reviews, call them software impressions. :)
Haha I like that :)
I just found your channel out this week (went on a MetalJesusRocks binge and suddenly uou showed up in the recommended haha!) and lo and behold, you’re already at over 2k, damn!! Congrats on the very fast growth for this niche!!
Thank you so much! 😄
For sure, haha 😂
@@orbalology Oh I’m also looking forward to Xenoblade Chronicles 3 (I still love the first one) and Digimon Survive. A shame that both of them are coming out on the same day, I’m concerned this will effect Digimon’s sells. I’m tempted to purchase both day one but who has time for that? Lol
I have similar concerns but ugh I try to avoid buying titles on launch day that will go on the backburner for a bit unless it's something limited 😅
32? Ngl I’m 26 and kinda scared of turning 30
I subscribe only becouse I wanna know why you record in the closet. Hope that one day you will tell us (maybe even in this video.. let's find out!)
ah it's not a closet lol 😂 My filming time & areas are limited so I basically just try to set up where the best natural lighting is.
@@orbalology ok, thanks for anwser - unsub xD
Keep up the good work, hope your channel grows.
You are kidding! I swear I would have guessed 24. Maybe you won't ever age?
lol, if only vampires existed 😂
One piece sub or dub
I've always watched it subbed :)
