I can relate a lot to your love for handheld consoles! I got into gaming with GBC as well as a kid! I have lots of nostalgia for GBC and GBA while traveling. I lost interest in gaming for a while. I would play casually here and there throughout the years. I always played the Zelda titles and was absolutely blown away by Breath of the Wild in 2017. Then in 2022, I played Persona 5 Royal for the first time and it single handedly got me back into gaming and collecting as a hobby! It’s cool to see other people get into this hobby later in life like myself!
This is such a cool channel! You have a nice collection of handhelds and games. This videos has inspired me to make more videos about handhelds. They're just so awesome!
You were lucky having that as your first hand held! I remember getting the original Gameboy for Christmas when I was 10 years old. It killed batteries like you wouldn't believe! I remember getting under the covers at bedtime ready to play some marioland when my parents thought I was asleep and then was heartbroken when I realised the screen wasn't backlit! 😭
We share a similar interest in the Vita! Also have very fond memories going back to probably 1988 or 9 when a friend of mine brought a gameboy to school. I already had an NES but boy did the gameboy change everything. My favorite handheld was the GBA, I loved that thing to death. Had the OG, SP, and Mini. GBA is the system where I fell in love with the Fire Emblem and Final Fantasy Tactics games. Great vid, thanks!
Awesome - thanks for sharing! I recently picked up a flashcart to go back and play all those GBA classics I missed actually. Really glad I made the leap to do that - the game boy systems have so many fantastic games.
I love collecting for the gameboy, virtual boy, GBA, DS, 3ds and the switch. My favorite is the switch then the 3ds. I have finished playing all of my 3ds games.
So many great handhelds! Those are my top two favorite as well though I'm not sure where I would place the Vita - I still have quite the backlog for that system. But it's great to have played all your 3DS games - lots of gems on that system.
Nice collection. My sister and I played the Zelda oracle games back when we were in middle school. I had ages and she had seasons. What I thought was cool about those games is that when you beat one you get a password which you can enter in the opposite game to unlock new story.
Yeah! The game linking was a really neat feature from the oracle games. Definitely made it fun as a kid to unlock all the hidden secrets. I can't quite remember if my brother and I were able to beat one of the games or not to relink. The details are a bit fuzy, but I should really revisit these games again soon.
I had the exact same GBC and GBA as you! The GBC was my first personal console, which I won along with Pokémon Red at a Toys R Us Easter event. Unfortunately they are both long gone, along with the games.. I relied heavily on trade-in credit for acquiring new games and systems back then.
A great selection I must say what would be your favourite like to own if the world ended? Have a lot of memories of games there not just life savers there portals to other realms 🙏🏻 also what’s your favourite genre or is it jpgs 😀🙏🏻
Really glad I came across your channel, you share many of the same tastes in games as I. You’ve got my sub, looking forward to following you in your gaming journey. Keep up the great work.
Hey! I've been enjoying collecting for Switch, 3DS & DS lately. I know the 3DS online store has both Oracle of Ages/Seasons for like $7 each because I bought them like 2 months ago. If you purchase a Nintendo Card you should be able to still download onto your 3DS, you just can't do credit card purchases anymore. Do you purchase any games from Super Rare Games, LRG, Strictly Limited or One Print Games? One Print still has Ittle Dew available for purchase. It's one that I think you'd really love to have.
Yes! I try to purchase a few of the limited print publishers. I had my eye on Ittle Dew actually. The shipping fee can be a bit steep from One Print because I think they're located in Singapore if I remember correctly. But I've been meaning to try them out so I may try to get a few in a haul or something.
Oh man, I'm SO jealous of those Trails collector's editions! It's a real shame --Trails is my favorite series and I don't have any of the Liberl games physically. 😅 I'd like to find the American release of Sky 1 (🤑🤑🤑), but I'd be happy to find a good deal on imports for the other two.
Ugh yeah the localized PSP Trails in the Sky FC would be something I would love to add to my collection one day. The Japanese versions are much better price-wise though! I recommend looking into importing them through a proxy service perhaps. The limited Vita editions I shared in this video are not too expensive used though the 3rd one has been giving me a lot of trouble to find for a decent price 😭
I have some good memories with my Game Boy color , it was also my first handheld (second console, after SNES). I loved it so much, and certainly I was an environmental menace, the amount of batteries i used on my game boy color was insane. Mainly playing Pokemon blue and gold, unfortunately I lost my GBC and games when I moved onto another country. When you first started i was Happy, i thought we were about the same age. But then you said you were in highschool when A link between worlds came out, which means, I'm definitely older :( but it was nice to see someone enjoyed GBC as much as I did.
I think you may have misheard. A Link Between Worlds came out with I was in grad school, so I'm probably as old if not older than you thought lol 😂 In high school I didn't do too much gaming, other than dabble a bit in some MMORPGs like Runescape and WOW. Oh and I played a bit of FPS with my dad and brother. Mostly Return to Castle Wolfenstein 😅
@@orbalology Ow, I see. I might have misheard you, English is not my first language, and you've got a soft voice xD. In that case we may be around the same age. I could consider highschool and university as my dark gaming moments. I didn't play much console during those years, you know, internet was a thing. I played MU a lot (it's like a MMORPG), then i played league of legends, and some mobile games too. I recently got bad to this world. Although I didn't leave pokemon out. But haven't played black &white during those darker moments in highschool(?) I followed you on Twitter ^-^ hopefully we can chat there
I used getting a 3DS as a exercise motivator haha. I had to work out for like x number of days for y months to get a 3DS and animal crossing new leaf 😂 Also not handheld related but I also have a memory of just not understanding how to level up in FFX so I got stuck very early 😂😂😂
Oh nice, that's great! And certainly one way to get motivated :) I actually still need to get ACNL. New Horizons was my first introduction so I wasn't totally sure if it made sense to get that one. But I keep hearing that ACNL is still a lot of people's favorite so I should give it a shot some day now that I've sort of abandoned my ACNH island 😅 And gosh FFX 😂 I actually never finished that game. I started on the PS2 back in the day but then the game somehow got traded to GS before I had a chance to really dive in. I then tried it again on the Vita a few years ago but put it down in favor of playing some other games. I now have it for the Switch when I picked it up on super discount... so someday I will finally get through it 😂
@@orbalology Definitely recommend getting New Leaf. I started playing New Leaf when everyone else got New Horizons. I didn't have a Switch at that time, but I did have a 2ds XL. I've tried most of the AC games since then and New Leaf is definitely number 1.
I'm glad I got back into it. I just got an Xbox 360 again with a good amount of games. A PSVITA on the way, and trying to figure how I want to regain the Sony systems. I was browsing PS4's and them being almost the current price of used PS5's I'm wondering if I should even bother. I eventually want all of the systems with only a couple as dedicated playable machine's. Ohh this is so much fun lol. My only real fear is acquiring good equipment. After seeing so many horror stories on here.
Can't believe you don't have a PSP?! Alot of good games are on PSP! I have PSP, PS Vita, 3DS XL, & DS Lite! Also a couple of the Mattel Electronics handheld football games from the 80's! Lol! Oh, & a Wii U that has the handheld controller screen! You have a nice collection of handhelds- hold on to them for as long as you can!
My favorite handheld to collect for is the Gameboy family of systems. I use zip up three ring binders and baseball card sheets to put my gameboy games in. I really recommend the ips screen for the Gameboy Advance. I got mine from Ali-Express. It's not hard to do at all if you buy the shell that's all prepared for you. I got the Gameboy original looking shell. I also have a Consolized gba and some Everdrives. They are almost impossible to get now though because of the War in the Ukraine. ☹
Oh I haven't considered DIYing the screens on the gameboys systems. I probably wouldn't modify the ones from my childhood but it's something to consider for a few other ones I may have access to. I'll need to look into it - thanks for the suggestion!
I wonder how much of a difference that grip makes with the switch. I've been playing Breath of the Wild on the light, and it can get straining after a while. Also, I loved my Gameboy color my brother eventually gave me his for my collection which is the same purple one. I have a psp and the original launch DS that I would love to start collecting for.
I found the grip to really help with my hand cramps. Especially in more action based games like Hades that require a lot of quick movements. I highly recommend trying one out if you also encountered similar problems that limit your play sessions.
@@orbalology I definitely do get the cramps, and I get frustrated because I love my switch lite and want to utilize it more. Also, so if you get a bunch of like notificatioin's from me, I am getting caught up with your vids.
I still adore the gameboy advance. The DS has a better library than the 3DS partly because it can play GBA games. At the top of that list sits METROID ZERO MISSION and METROID FUSION. SONIC ADVANCE 3 is also unique.
I had the same exact gbc as you. My biggest regret is trading it in for some ps1 games. Wish I still have it. Now I have to spend $300 on an ips modded gba and these old games are so expensive now. Can't even find Pokemon gold for a reasonable price
GBA games - especially the popular ones - are really expensive! I actually purchased a flash cart semi-recently to help alleviate the game pricing issue and hoping to mod my GBA/GBC with the IPS screen kits eventually. The IPS screens really make a huge difference.
I've been actually looking into some - the ones with replacement backlite screens seem really neat. I've also been meaning to import a Japanese 3DS one of these days for modding purposes.
@@orbalology Yeah, the backlit Gameboys are fantastic. Playing the games on those screens is a better experience overall. Also, if you do import a 3ds, I recommend importing a new Nintendo 3ds model. It is my favorite 3ds model, and being able to change faceplates is fun because there are so many options.
The faceplates are really neat! I've never tried the non-XL 3DS size so I've been a bit hesitant to get that model actually. But the faceplates do really make it special. There are a few LL models I've had my eye on but I'm just waiting for the right price.
Oh no, have you considered modding it so it's useable again? I ended up modding my slim version so that it could accept any memory card instead of the proprietary sony one.
Sucks you never owned a DSi/DSi XL. I had one when I was a lot younger at played THE HELL outta the thing. Probably so much that the hinge is starting to break. I now play most of my DS games on my New 3DS XL that I got a few years ago. Still play my 3DS to this day, as well as my Switch. Sadly don't have a lot of games on either my 3DS or DSi (Not counting downloads). A very small amount I sadly lost (Most likely from moving). If you ever decide to get some DSiWare on one of your 3DS's, I have some good ones for ya
