Correction: the Muv Luv Psychedelica games are also available on steam! However right now the only way to get them physically in the west is on the vita.
@@Ad-us8vjpersonally I prefer the oled for the better screen the colours and deep blacks look amazing and I feel the oled model feels more premium but you do have worse battery life than the 2000 model and a proprietary charging cable so it's up you what you'd prefer really :) The slim is also well slimmer lol and a lot lighter so that could be a pro or con depending on what you prefer
You have a good-sized Psvita physical collection. Psvita is one of my favorite underrated handhelds. Sony gave up on the Vita. Way too soon, but Indie games gave the Vita a longer life span. I love collecting for the Vita because of its unique library. I originally played Trails of Cold Steel 1 for the Vita and had a wonderful experience, and it got me into the Trails series!😁👍
I played the Cold Steel 1/2 games on there initially as well! (though on my modded system). I was amazed how different the approach was from the Sky games :)
Welcome to Vita Island Emily! That's a pretty good collection you picked up despite starting late. I'm glad I'm not the only one that has both a modded Vita Slim and an OLED to play the physical collection. I was fortunate enough to start collecting most of my games when GameStop started selling the preowned copies for 12-25 bucks back in 2016-18, (I have new copies of games as well, but back then I had to be really frugal with my game collecting by buying preowned copies). By the time 2019 came around, you had to ask the GameStop clerk for a printed list of what they had in stock since GameStop was still selling them, but did not want to provide any shelf space for them. The only thing that I'm missing from my collection that I really want is Tale Of Hearts R. GameStop was selling it for 18 bucks back in the day, but unfortunately I didn't pull the trigger. and now the physical price has tripled. I am a fan of the Tales series how you are to the LOH Trails series. Love your channel and collection set-up! Keep up the good content!
I recently bought a brand new Silver PS Vita 2000. I know most games have been ported over, but I love the system and I'm excited to get some certain physical Vita games.
Not exclusive to the Vita entirely but Dissidia Duodecim and The Force Unleashed (PSP) are highly underrated. The Vita Ports of Need For Speed Most Wanted 2012 and Split Second are actually pretty solid. And if you haven't played Threads of Fate, it's one of the few available ways to do so. LOVE that game.
Emily, you are simply my favorite TH-camr at this point in terms of game collecting. Your voice always calms me down and tips help me reorganize my thoughts around my own strategies for my collection. I feel like you don't follow How To Be Amazing TH-camr in 2024 type of guidelines and you have your own way of content creation which is a very unique alternative these days. I really appreciate that you invest your free time to regularly create videos.
I played the Code: Realize trilogy on the Switch and I liked the experience via the Switch, just for the fact I could switch between a bigger screen (TV) and a handheld device. From what I know, I believe in the rereleases, Wintertide Miracles (last game) has a few extra story scenes (unvoiced) that are extremely short, so if you go with the VIta version, you aren’t missing out on much.
Might I suggest Utewarerumono: Mask of Lies and Utewarerumono: Mask of Truth. I got those for the PSVita a long while back, they fit into a strategy RPG meets heavy on the visual novel aspects. One of my favorites. Also God Wars, but also a visual novel strategy game mesh and was released on the Switch as well where I have it there too.
I own these on the PS4 actually! Heard the performance & load times are a bit better on there (& wanted it to go with my prelude PS4 game too 😅). God wars I have on the Switch - I think that one has the DLC or something making it the 'complete' version. But not bad choices for others to consider on the Vita!
I would love to see a port of Muramasa Rebirth to the Switch. I loved the Wii version, but never owned a Vita. I'm really not someone that double dips with their collection, but for this game I might. Something about Vanillaware's art style is so peaceful and calming no matter how much violence is on the screen lol
I hope so too because Muramasa is one of my favorite Vanillaware titles. The DLC Rebirth received was great as well, as it introduced 4 new original stories with characters that play vastly different from each other. The Nekomata, the cursed ninja and the one starring the Oni girl were my favorites.
The Tales series of Games is a fantastic series to jump into. The first one that I had played was Tales of Symphonia on my GameCube when I was kid back in the early 2000s. After jailbreaking my vita and finding out about Tales of Hearts R, I had to grab it to relive that real-time party combat game play and awesome story that comes along with it. It's a good "sit down and play" game, especially if you're on a long flight.
Great video and wonderful for a reference! I love my Vita and at this point I’m pretty much done collecting for it but there’s the odd game I’d probably still buy for it. Such a nice little system!
Thank you for sharing! I have three Vita consoles (the original and two slims, one being special edition). However, my Vita game collection is rather humble. I have not modded any of my console but plan to do so. Just want to make sure I won't lose the digital games I bought after modding.
I bought a Vita and Persona 4 Golden in a Black Friday sale a decade ago and for nearly that entire decade P4G was the only game I owned for it. It wasn't until some time last year while I was on a long travel trip that I visited some retro games store and saw among their stock the Vita versions for Final Fantasy X/X2 Collection and the standalone Virtue's Last Reward part of Nonary Games and thought "Eh...why not? Like I already own both of those on other consoles but I may as well buy them so that I have more than literally one game for this console after 10 years." Though I barely played the console when I got it and then just put it back in the box and onto my shelf where it proceeded to sit for years to present day. At least I own 3 games for it now. (Though I also did order the LRG Switch release for P4G)
Thanks for the recommendations! I will definitely be looking into some of the jrpgs you mentioned! I didn’t buy my Vita until 2020, more or less just to put it in my handheld collection, but I ended up really loving the system and wishing I had picked it up when it was more current. The OLED display is just stunning and I absolutely loved playing the first 2 Danganronpas on it.
I bought a Vita Slim last year and only played maybe 10 hours or so in a year. But now I play it more than my Switch OLED lol. I really love PS Vita after finding out I can increase games performance by overclocking it. That's a nice feature on a modded Vita.
I love both Steins Gate and the Zero Escape series, so cool to see you own them physically! Visual Novels are awesome, one of my favourite genres of video games ❤
Thanks for sharing a very nice Video, you have a clear and pleasant voice and you presented titles that are great although you cannot find many videos or vlogs talking about some of those games they will take more of their exclusive and Best of all time Vita Games, I hope you get your hands on Uncharted too Golden Abyss is still Exclusive to the vita maybe Gravity Rush too is used to be a very good Exclusive to the Vita, I dont know My friend if there are fake copies of games now in Asia but I just saw some stores selling Vita Games and Vita Consoles that are way cheaper especially those that are not modded yet then modded ones have pre loaded games already same with other modded consoles Like Switch and SteamDeck, good luck on finding great Games...
Hi Emily! This is my first time seeing your channel as this video randomly showed up in my feed. Great to see a fellow Vita collector talk about their favorites. I've owned my Vita a week before launch (Sony did an odd pre-release and came out with the so-called "First Edition" that came with a 4GB card and a copy of Little Deviants which was an Augmented Reality type game that I have yet to open up 😂) Seeing this system from launch all the way up to PSTV and the LCD version, I just wanted to give you some.of my favorites and suggestions as well. The first three games I picked up within that window are Uncharted: Golden Abyss (absolute must play, I know you will love), Ninja Gaiden Sigma (I know this was released on a ton of consoles but at the time, I wanted it portable so it was a no brained for me) and Unit 13 (This is also a great Vita exclusive shooter and it was the last game created by Zipper Interactive, the team behind SOCOM US Navy Seals). If you like shooters, Unit 13 may be worth it. As time went on, I got Ragnarok Odyssey (a Phantasy Star Online / Monster Hunter style Action RPG based on the Ragnarok Online series), Dynasty Warriors Next (a decent, well playing game in that series) and Soul Sacrifice (an early exclusive that has a unique sacrificial mechanic that you use to get more powers in hopes of defeating your opponent.) Like yourself, I also have Muramasa Rebirth (was so glad that game was released because I missed the Wii version) and Tales of Hearts R (which was a Game Stop Exclusive in the US). Since Vita did not have Monster Hunter, I embraced a lot of excellent, Monster Hunter style Action RPGs on the system. In addition to Ragnarok Odyssey, I also picked up Toukiden: Kiwami (this was a more complete version of Age of Demons that was themed around Samurai, Japanese lore and mythology), the absolutely incredible Freedom Wars (I never played this online but the offline is still a ton of fun, story based and totally worth the playthrough. Think a Cyberpunk-ish Phantasy Star Online meets Attack on Titan with Mecha and robots in place of the Titans and you will get the general idea. Also, it seems enhanced when playing it on the PSTV and can be played with a PS4 controller which makes it feel like a console game). Also, in that genre, as you can probably tell by now, I'm a huge Phantasy Star Online fan as well as Monster Hunter so I imported a fun little single player action RPG called Phantasy Star Nova (which was a combination of efforts between SEGA and Tri-Ace, the team behind the Star Ocean series). Yes, it's in Japanese and in terms of reading, it will be difficult to regular players. However, I'm quite adventurous and will play despite my extreme lack of knowledge when it comes to reading Hiragana, Katakana and Kanji. Once I got the menus figured out, the game was insane Ina good way! Giant Mecha Prawns with Rail Gina's and missile launchers? Absolutely! Chef Gundam in your party? You better believe it! I've been bugging the hell out of SEGA to localize this for release in the West on the Switch. I truly hope they eventually listen because we have not seen any single player Phantasy Star game since the NDS. I also really enjoyed Dragons Crown. Originally, it was a times exclusive for the Vita. It has also been released on PS3 and PS4. It may be on Steam and Xbox One but I'm not sure at the moment. Currently, the Vita version is the only way to play that game portably. Along with Muramasa, this is another Vanillaware game I would love to see on Switch. We just recently got a demo for the upcoming Unicorn Overlord so hopefully, that's the sign we need for remaster or ports of other Vanillaware classics. For anyone who wants to get into importing and likes custom firmware, despite the fact that a lot of RPGs do not have English versions, keep in mind that some games get English Translation patches which help significantly increase the playability of these games. Anyway, I've rambled for way too long. Great video! Good luck with your channel and I look forward to more upcoming content. I could keep going on as I haven't covered my entire collection but it would take me forever to finish this. Have a great rest of your week and keep up the great work!
I was with the vita since launch. I have over 40 physical titles. Vita store is still up, so you can snag some great ps1 or psp titles to play on the device. The rachet and clank collection is a good one for the system.
@@lesterbronson2385 oh I know, I actually ended up paying close to that, but I found it in the wild. There was only a European physical release, I'm in the states. So I'd say a rare find. Heck finding vita games in person can be a tall order. Just started playing it finally. Never played a rachet game.
@@orbalology I would say it runs quite well. Good enough that upon testing and played for an hour. Performs much better than jak or God of war collection. Not sure how sly collection runs.
Just throwing it out there gravity rush and assassins creed liberation work so well on the vita and they're my favorite to play to this day on vita exclusively
The PS Vita was definitely my favorite console to collect for as someone who is a fan of rhythm games, visual novels, and JRPGs. While collecting for the console can be expensive, it got me interested in game importing, something I have carried over to my Switch collection. Definitely get Gravity Rush for the Vita, such a great way to experience the game, and easily my favorite Vita title. Furthermore, Dungeon Traveler's 2 is definitely worth playing. As someone who previously never played a DRPG, the game is surprising deep with character build customization and is very friendly to new players of the genre. Once you get past the excessive fan service, there's a solid game there, glad I gave it a chance. Finally, getting Trails of Cold Steel 1 + 2 on the Vita & PS3 allows you to take advantage of the cross save feature, weird that Sony didn't promote this more since it was basically a precursor to what the Nintendo Switch does.
Physical forever! I still collect for it, although its getting harder and more expensive. I didnt get my first Vita until 2020 and had no idea how great of collection existed. Great vid!
In a tweet response to me, Video Games Plus said that Zero Time Dilemma was going out of print and that as of December 2023, whatever they had in stock is pretty much all they'll have going forward.
Hi Emily. Awesome video always. I think I figured out why I love your videos so much even though I don't have a Vita or have played any of those RPG games. I think it's because you are so knowledgeable & you educate me in all of your videos you do.
@@orbalology You're very captivating for sure. I would say interesting a lot. You would have to be interesting for me to watch a gaming Genre I am not into.
nice pickups for the vita Em's. yes i still recommend collecting for the vita. it's one of my favorite handhelds of all time. i never finished tales of hearts r and i regret that to this day. i hope a miracle happens and we get a modern console port one day.
Great video Emily and over the last year or so the quality of these has gone way up. I'm sad to say my Vita is collecting dust. I haven't purchased a game for it in years. I got a Blue colored one right at the end of the main Vita life cycle and grabbed a bunch of games at the time, including Tearaway. This video doe give me some thought to go back to the well and maybe pull up some of those games that are less expensive and give it another try.
Vita have a lot of potential. I been having my vita for 7 years and still of the best handheld ever. Nice ps vita collection. The first 3 games i bought was BlazBlue chronophantasma extend, MK9 and call of duty declassified.
I love collecting for the PS Vita 🙂, I think it's the most comfortable handheld and love the remote play feature. I have noticed in the UK some PS Vita games are going down in price too, which is tempting me to buy physical copies of my favourite digital games I own.
My favorites are gravity, persona 4 golden, tearaway, hotline Miami, and dragon crown. I don't modd my systems or even buy them that way but with the handhelds I definitely have them modded because that's a must have because I love my jrpg. I got quite a few from Japan and their games seem better than our ps vita games in North America. It was a great handheld and still is. I play it everyday when I get the chance
We own 194 Vita games. So many JRPGs. Someday we're going to retire and my wife (who also plays JRPGs) and I will just sit in a house somewhere and play RPGs for the rest of our days. Maybe then we'll catch up.
wow i got the same setup, a modded slim white and a 1000 model for the physical games i got. I love Vita content, keep it up! Btw I got one hidden gem recommendation: Epic Mickey 2 physical, the price of this game is probably going to the moon because they are going to remaster the first one for the current gen consoles, so be quick :)
Wipeout Omega Collection (released on PS4) is probably the premier Wipeout game to get at this point. It's more or less a compendium of the two Wipeout games for the PSP (Wipeout Pure & Pulse) and Wipeout 2048 for the Vita. Runs at 4k/60hz on PS5 if you fancy that.
Thanks for showing off your cool collection Dr. Emily! Some games you may want to check out are Arafell Enhanced Edition on the Switch. It's a simple but charming RPG. Also, The Caligula Effect 2 on PS4/PS5 looks promising.
Ah, I have both these haha. Though Caligula Effect 2 on the Switch - I've considered upgrading to the PS5 version that recently released but still not sure if the enhancements in that version are worth doing that for.
@@orbalology Mount and Blade 2 Bannerlord on PS5 is a worthy pick up too. It's like a medieval combat simulator. Very unique with huge scale battles like 500 vs 500. There is an open ended story mode too.
Thank you for clearing up which version of Steins Gate to pickup! I’ve heard great things about the series but never knew which of the many versions was best! Also good to know some vita games aren’t too expensive, i’d worried they had kept rising in price, great suggestions!!
Happy I could help clarify that point with Steins Gate! I was definitely confused when I was initially researching all the different versions 😂 I think the Vita game market has really fluctuated the past year or so with all these recent ports (& possibly interest in other handheld alternatives).
I just got a vita and I loved your content! If you had to pick 3 which would you recommend to me? I loved all of the final fantasy games if that helps to narrow it down. Thanks for the response in advance!
Nice collection of Vita games! I had a PSP but ended up skipping the Vita. Which is too bad as it had a nice library of games. Looking back Sony really dropped the ball on some of their decision making when it came to marketing and other odd choices they made with the PSP handhelds. It could've been such a super successful system! Great video! 😺🔥
Thanks, and I agree the Vita was ahead of it's time & not well supported by Sony. There are rumors of a new dedicated handheld coming out from them, and if that's the case I hope they properly support it this time around.
I bought a Vita just to play Fate/Extella: The Umbral Star because even now years after release it's only available for the Vita and PS4, and I wasn’t about to buy a PlayStation given I was a college student then lol (I still don’t have a PS). I absolutely LOVE the Psychedelica games, some of my favorire VNs ever, but they're both available on Steam now so I don’t recommend buying a Vita just for those. But Sweet Fuse was only ever in the Vita and PSP and I really enjoyed it!
Oh I may be mistaken, but I think Umbral Star is available physically on the Switch now! Along with Link. I want to say I own one of those now and have the other on my to-buy list. But the Psychedelica games are so good! It's good they're available on steam now - hopefully they'll see Switch or other console ports at some point.
@orbalology Just checked and yeah, Umbral Star is on Switch and PC now, which is cool! I know Otomate just announced that 7'scarlet is getting a Switch release at least in Japan, and that game is on Steam, too, so there's hope yet for the Psychedelicas to be on the Switch - but we'll have to see if that carries over to the English versions 🙏
Another great topic. I have a few of these Ps vita games. I don't think i'll add to it as it's sooo expensive to buy for but might keep my eye out for lost dimensions as I do like Atlus.
I have a sealed copy of Uncharted: Golden Abyss I wish I could send you, but it is pretty much impossible from Argentina. I could recommend you to try Soul Sacrifice (or Soul Sacrifice Delta, its "enhanced" version). It is a pretty good game and still exclusive to Vita.
Hi Emily! I think the PS Vita is a very well made portal gaming console, but I just never could get myself to get it not only because of the price but lack of games that attracts me to the system. Other than the PSP, it's always been Nintendo handheld for me since the original Game Boy.
I always appreciate the care and thought put into your collection Emily! You always curate such a diverse collection that's filled with many gems, and it's nice seeing how you go about it as well, along with your opinions as well! :) Really hoping, maybe one day Sony will tackle a Vita 2 of some kind, i remember owning one years and years ago and the games were really were so fun! Specially the ones that utilize the Vita (like you said) in full - like Tearaway! As always, stellar work!
A few more exclusives I'm familiar with: DJMAX Technika Tune (You can get the songs as DLC in DJMAX Respect, it doesn't play exactly the same - Technika on Vita and in arcades is a touchscreen game, other DJMAX games use buttons), and Drive Girls (It's an action, kind of musou-like game about girls that can transform into cars). There wasn't much to it, but Neptunia PP: Producing Perfection is another Vita exclusive. Disgaea 3 is also only available on PS3/Vita - It doesn't have a 'complete' port on Switch like most of the other numbered entries for some reason. There's also no Steam version, so while it does also exist on PS3 it's very close to being a Vita exclusive. Ar Nosurge is also only on PS3 and Vita, and the Vita version also includes all of the PS3 version's DLC. There is an Ar Nosurge DX in Japan for Switch/PS4/PC since 2021, but no mention of a localization yet. Games available elsewhere I enjoyed a lot on Vita: Monster Monpiece has a Steam version, and is only available digitally in the west on Vita but I enjoyed that game as well. It also leans lewd in some of its upgrade mechanics (frantic screen rubbing, front and back touchscreen at the time time 🫣), but the game itself is also pretty fun. It was sort of like autochess/auto battlers before they were popular where you draw cards and can place them in a lane, then they automatically progress toward an opponent. I really enjoyed the Neptunia games on Vita (particularly the Re;Birth 1-3 series - Switch ports were just announced for these recently [in Japan, at least] and they're also on Steam). Valkyrie DriveMind Zero, Ray Gigant, Conception II, Tokyo Tattoo Girls, Criminal Girls I and II, Senran Kagura Bon Appetit (all have Steam versions, but physical is exclusive to Vita) These also aren't exclusive (and a few are imports), but: Child of Light, DOA Xtreme, Moe Chronicle, Miracle Girls Festival, Hatsune Miku Project Diva F and F 2nd, - gosh I've enjoyed so many games on Vita. My favorite was probably Steins;Gate, which you covered - one of few games that has actually made me cry while playing it. Steins;Gate 0 is 'midquel', it's a bit complicated with it being about time travel as you might expect, but their explanation for the 'zero' (and it specifically being one with a line through it) is pretty interesting. I like the first game more overall, but more Steins;Gate was certainly welcome!
Thanks for the detailed recommendation list! I've been looking at Disgae 3 in particular because I have a few of the complete ones on the Switch, though I do wonder if that'll see a complete version someday as well so I may continue pushing that one off too 😅
Gravity rush is hand down one of the best best games on Vita. I really think if Sony hadnt abandoned it and marketed Gravity Rush as the "must have, must play" game for Vita, and invested into the franchise a little more, it could have brought a more mainstream audience to the Vita. I 100% recommend picking it up! Its such a shame Gravity Rush 2 didn't release on Vita and didnt do so well on PS4!
It's crazy how much some Vita games cost compared to launch or when places cleared them out at $10. I remember importing games dirt cheap and picking up a vita tv for $20. Thank goodness I did because people seem to sell them at a high price now to make a profit. I guess it's best to buy games now instead of waiting so long. It's sometimes a gamble if a game will drop to $5 or stop being produced and skyrocket. Some games like Gravity Rush remastered and Panzler Dragoon Saga I should have known better not to sell because they launched with a limited amount planned but I figured they would re-release them eventually. I wish they would release shining force 3 parts 1 though 3 again but it's looking like that will never happen
Nice line up. Killzone Mercenary was pretty solid. Wipeout was good, but I believe thsoe maps were intergrated into the PS4 version. You have a pretty solid list of titles to chase down still too. Is there a fan translation for the Trails in the Sky FC/SC? I have a moded PSTV that I wouldn't mind patching in an english translation. Pretty sure the english translation isn't on the vita card. Only played them on PSP and was disapointed we never got the Vita versions. Still my favorite portable of all time.
Correct - the physical cart doesn't include English. But there's either a fan patch or an option to add the PC translations to the Evolution PS Vita on the modded systems.
love vita videos, other channels i watch that do them all agree, when youve experienced vita, you trulyappreciate it a lot and see how big of a wasted oppertunity it was had sony not given up on it, (for those wondering, xbox performmed a kamikaze at e3 2013 and allowed sony to take the home console throne, so for the whole generation, sony allocated all resources to the ps4, giving up on the handheld market, and while it is sad, we had an incredible generation as the ps4 is now one of the best of all time thanks to the vita's sacrifice lol) but the vita is truly a special device, the switch owes everthing to sonys foundation it left with vita, all vita franchises migrated to switch now, so the vita is truly an important device!
POV: You were roaming YT looking for PS vita hidden gems... You died and woke up in heaven to a jRpg collecting dark-haired PS vita angel. Everything's fine. 😊
Bought the lost child digitally right before it gotten delisted on switch. Haven't played it, just that losing access to it, made me impulse buy it 🫠 On the plus side, it was super cheap, under $10. Im sorta excited for that Xanadu game. I watch basement bros and he did a video on the pc88 Xanadu game. He's done alot of early falcom games on the channel 🤓
Whenever delistments are announced in advanced I cannot help but try to prioritize them as well - glad you grabbed it for not too much though! I haven't played Tokyo Xanadu yet (even though I have the eX+ version on PS4) but I hear really good things about them. They're often described as cross between Ys gameplay with Trails/Persona social links.
Great topic the ps vita :) I have it too but my collection of vita games is quite small. I got the vita most for playing Tales of Hearts and Talea of Innocence. To bad vita games are so rare and uncommon here in Scandinavia.
As someone with a Vita and a PS4, before I had my portal, I used to stream games from my PS4 to my Vita often. I even played Elden Ring on my Vita 😅. So if there was a PS4 and Vita option I always would go for the PS4 and then stream. Now with the portal, I definitely think that is now the superior PlayStation streaming device.
I'm still a bit torn about getting a portal (if I can find it lol). I unfortunately can't have my PS5 hardwired but I do have pretty good wifi so I may try to buy it from a store with a good return policy.
@@orbalology that's definitely a good idea! A good return policy makes it less risky. I bought mine at Best Buy online. I feel like portals been showing up in stock more often lately.
I have the Code Realize Trilogy CEs on both Vita and Switch IMO you’re better off just getting the switch versions because docked mode on the Switch can be really clutch and the higher resolution really pops out on a TV 👌
Oh good to know! I imagine finding the switch versions will likely be easier too so I may just go for those unless I find a great bundle deal for the vita versions.
I was happy to grab Night Trap a few years back. To my knowledge it’s one of the handful of FMV games that made to the Vita. Highly recommended. Or not.
The PS Vita is such a lovely handheld and I wish it was a bigger success to Sony and had a true successor. Regardless, your collection is fantastic and you have a bunch of great titles on it. I love the Vanillaware games on it especially Dragon's Crown and Muramasa, the latter still hasn't gotten ported to anything else which is unfortunate since it was originally on Wii so hopefully we see Muramasa get revived. It's definitely long overdue. The Nonary Games are a must on the Vita, I ended up getting it on PS4 but it doesn't feel right. I need these games on a handheld. Wish they'd get a Switch port already.
@@orbalology I’ve thought about it but decided against it ultimately. When it comes to handheld experiences I’ll stick to the Switch. I bought the PS5 for the sole purpose of using it on my TV at the end of the day. Now if they decided to make a Vita successor then that’s a different story. 😅
I'm fairly new to them too, having grown up with the Nintendo handhelds. The vita itself is a pretty neat system that seemed to be ahead of it's time. But it's nice that many of these games are now getting ported to the Switch since it's much more accessible on there.
I think the ps vita is an amazing piece of hardware especially for the time of its release. But ultimately it just became a thing I played Persona 4 Golden and Ys: Memories of Celceta and that's kinda it. I really should look into modding mine 🤔
Thanks for sharing your PS Vita collection, Emily! My main PS Vita titles were Persona 4 Golden, the first two Trails in the Sky games and the first two Trails of Cold Steel games. I wouldn't have discovered the Persona and Trails series as early as I did if it wasn't for the PS Vita.
The Vita initiated me to the Trails games as well! I've considered double dipping and grabbing the CS 1/2 on there... but I was sorta holding out we'd get Switch ports but that seems less likely now.
@@orbalologyI discovered the Trails series back in 2017 because I was randomly looking for a new game to play and found the first Trails of Cold Steel for PS Vita on Amazon. I saw that it had good reviews so I bought it. Once I played through some of the game, I immediately bought Trails of Cold Steel 2!
I'm a PS fan but I never bought a vita, I don't know why and now I'm buying all the consoles for collection and I hope to have the vita soon and see its abilities 🤣😂
Hi Emily. I just want to tell you that I quit Anno Mutationem. So I was really frustrated with this game. I was at the part in the sewers I guess. It's where you go to activate platforms. This is a huge puzzle in this game. So when you activate them some go horizontal & some go Vertical. Then you need to jump on these circled platforms that bring you to other switches. It's really taking me a long time just to figure something like that out. Before that part it took me a while just to get to that part cuz I had to fix a lift. I don't know if you were at that part of the game. If you found that annoying. I was trying for hours to pass it too.
Oh no, sorry to hear the game was frustrating for you! The most annoying part of the game for me was a bit further in where there was this chase scene that you had to platform to avoid. Took me like 10 tries to finally get it 😭 Sorry to hear this was another recommendation that didn't work for you though :(
@@orbalology Thank you Emily for replying back to me. It means a lot to me. Don't worry it's not your fault. Those games were great recommendations. They start off really well & for some reason you get to a point to a game where the difficulty spikes so much that it becomes so hard & you are there for hours upon hours where to go or what to do. I'll eventually play 1 game that you highly recommend, maybe I'll switch to a full RPG genre type game where the fights are you know that choose a command like pokemon type games. Even games that I play I quit just because I don't know where to go, what to do or enemies keep killing me to progress fwd. Very cool that you beat that chase scene later on.
Nice vita collection. I just started collecting for it myself this year. And Tales of Hearts R is worth playing. Im halfway through and enjoying but the boss fights are really annoying so far
Correction: the Muv Luv Psychedelica games are also available on steam! However right now the only way to get them physically in the west is on the vita.
@orbalology what is the better version of the vita the oled or the slim?
Muv-Luv / Muv-Luv Alternative Remastered Double Pack (Multi-Language) has just released on switch in June. =)
@@Ad-us8vjpersonally I prefer the oled for the better screen the colours and deep blacks look amazing and I feel the oled model feels more premium but you do have worse battery life than the 2000 model and a proprietary charging cable so it's up you what you'd prefer really :)
The slim is also well slimmer lol and a lot lighter so that could be a pro or con depending on what you prefer
Really nice collection! I'm also nearing the end of my Vita collecting, which feels good in a way, but it's also kinda sad. Such a cool system!
Oh I'll have to look into those, thanks for mentioning them!
Great video! I love playing on the Vita for the comfort, OLED, and trophies 😃
Thank you! I appreciate your kind words :)
Watched the show because im a weeb....
heard the games are bit echi;?
The Vita was a cool device at the time, I played a ton of Everybody’s Golf.
I know the Vita version with the OLED screen looked amazing. I hope it gets a modern port soon too.
Vanillaware's games are always an excellent time!
Your video concepts are great thanks for posting so much informative content!
Just finished Bad Apple Wars -- big thumbs up from me! Quirky visual style, compelling story, solid characters -- I think you would really enjoy it.
Oh that's great to hear!
I bought a sealed copy of Bad Apple Wars from GameStop the other day for $1 during their clearance sale :o
ohhh that's a great deal
7’Scarlet was my first visual novel. It was very well written and opened up a new genre for me. I love the vita so much.
Hope you can find some games you don't own on other consoles to help fill out your library a little!
The OLED screen is really nice!! The handheld was so ahead of it's time 😭 Hope you can grab some more titles to enjoy on it :)
I love the thought and effort you put into your collection. And that shirt is fire! Thank you for you content!
Aww thanks, this is one of my favorite xeno shirts 😆
I absolutely loved my vita. I recently finished collecting for it and didn't mod it at all.
Always nice to see some passion for the Vita, I still think it's the best handheld ever made. Thanks for the show and tell 😊😊😊
VNs are so great! Though I do struggle to play them sometimes when I'm in the middle of a book 😅
As time went on, I got Ragnarok Odyssey (a Phantasy Star Online / Monster Hunter style Action RPG based on the Ragnarok Online series), Dynasty Warriors Next (a decent, well playing game in that series) and Soul Sacrifice (an early exclusive that has a unique sacrificial mechanic that you use to get more powers in hopes of defeating your opponent.)
Like yourself, I also have Muramasa Rebirth (was so glad that game was released because I missed the Wii version) and Tales of Hearts R (which was a Game Stop Exclusive in the US).
Haha, rambling about hobbies is something I'm passionate about too 😂 Hope you have a great weekend!
I was with the vita since launch. I have over 40 physical titles. Vita store is still up, so you can snag some great ps1 or psp titles to play on the device. The rachet and clank collection is a good one for the system.
It’s crazy how expensive the physical copy of the Ratchet and clank trilogy is. A couple years ago, it was going for $100+.
@@lesterbronson2385 oh I know, I actually ended up paying close to that, but I found it in the wild. There was only a European physical release, I'm in the states. So I'd say a rare find. Heck finding vita games in person can be a tall order. Just started playing it finally. Never played a rachet game.
Does the Rachet & Clank collection run well? Or is it similar to the Jak collection that apparently runs super poorly?
@@orbalology I would say it runs quite well. Good enough that upon testing and played for an hour. Performs much better than jak or God of war collection. Not sure how sly collection runs.
Just throwing it out there gravity rush and assassins creed liberation work so well on the vita and they're my favorite to play to this day on vita exclusively
Channel is booming! Congrats! Go Emily go!🎉🎉
The PS Vita was definitely my favorite console to collect for as someone who is a fan of rhythm games, visual novels, and JRPGs.
As someone who previously never played a DRPG, the game is surprising deep with character build customization and is very
friendly to new players of the genre. Once you get past the excessive fan service, there's a solid game there, glad I gave it a chance.
Finally, getting Trails of Cold Steel 1 + 2 on the Vita & PS3 allows you to take advantage of the cross save feature, weird that Sony didn't promote this more since it was basically a precursor to what the Nintendo Switch does.
holy moly that Pyra/Mythra figure behind you is so sick
Physical forever! I still collect for it, although its getting harder and more expensive. I didnt get my first Vita until 2020 and had no idea how great of collection existed. Great vid!
Thank you! I've found some of the used prices very variable within the past year so hope you can snag some more titles at great deals :)
In a tweet response to me, Video Games Plus said that Zero Time Dilemma was going out of print and that as of December 2023, whatever they had in stock is pretty much all they'll have going forward.
It's worth it. My collection is for keeps. I got Horizon Chase Turbo as part of my physical collection.
Tearaway was so much fun on the Vita! I’ve been debating trying the PS4 version… hopefully the new control scheme isn’t too much of a downgrade 🤞
Hi Emily. Awesome video always. I think I figured out why I love your videos so much even though I don't have a Vita or have played any of those RPG games. I think it's because you are so knowledgeable & you educate me in all of your videos you do.
Thanks! I try my best to share what I've learned about a certain thing to make it digestible (and hopefully interesting).
Hope you can return to Tales of Heart R someday to finish it! :)
Year ago I bought used Playstation TV and I just remembered that PSTV is able to use PS Vita cartridges. Great selection of specialties!
Yeah! I've heard a lot of folks enjoy their PSTV w/ their vita games :)
Vita have a lot of potential. I been having my vita for 7 years and still of the best handheld ever. Nice ps vita collection. The first 3 games i bought was BlazBlue chronophantasma extend, MK9 and call of duty declassified.
Had to dump half of my physical Vita collection, but it’s such a rad system
It's a really nice handheld! But I don't blame you for wanting to size down the collection.
I love collecting for the PS Vita 🙂, I think it's the most comfortable handheld and love the remote play feature.
I have noticed in the UK some PS Vita games are going down in price too, which is tempting me to buy physical copies of my favourite digital games I own.
I find the Vita the most comfortable too - the Slim model especially!
Dokuro is a nice japanese puzzle game (with english on the cartridge). Hidden gem.
We own 194 Vita games. So many JRPGs. Someday we're going to retire and my wife (who also plays JRPGs) and I will just sit in a house somewhere and play RPGs for the rest of our days. Maybe then we'll catch up.
Gravity Rush is the main reason I bought myself a Vita and I wasn't disappointed.
wow i got the same setup, a modded slim white and a 1000 model for the physical games i got.
Muramasa and Dragon’s Crown are my two favourite Vita games by far!
answered all of my questions! thanks for the video, i will hopfully pick one up soon.
Hope you can snag a good deal on one! I recommend maybe checking out some import options if the local ones are really pricey.
Really nicely spoken and structred video
I bought the Call of Duty Declassified PS Vita bundle when it launched! Cool lil system that I still play & collect for!😊
Aww nice! What are you favorites on the system?
@@orbalology COD, Uncharted, Batman & few lil ps1 digital games on there!
I don’t know how I missed this! Still not necessarily a vita person. But I appreciate all the work you put into this video.
Hope you can find a good deal on Lost Dimension!
Your video sounds incredible! Would you mind telling me what kind of mic you're using?
I'm using the Rode VideoMic NTG
Finally a unique list, gets tiring hearing only persona, uncharted and kill zone every list. Thanks for the recommendations!
That's fair! I grew up with Nintendo handhelds so it's been cool to see what PS offered on their in more recent years.
I always appreciate the care and thought put into your collection Emily! You always curate such a diverse collection that's filled with many gems, and it's nice seeing how you go about it as well, along with your opinions as well! :)
Really hoping, maybe one day Sony will tackle a Vita 2 of some kind, i remember owning one years and years ago and the games were really were so fun! Specially the ones that utilize the Vita (like you said) in full - like Tearaway!
As always, stellar work!
Thanks Michael! I would love Sony to try another dedicated handheld system, but this time actually give it the proper support it deserves 😭
@@orbalologyi completely agree! It really is such a nice system but lacked in support by them in general :(
An awesome video! You’re so knowledgeable ❤ love ya vids!
Howzit Emily, awesome video, thank you.😊
A few more exclusives I'm familiar with: DJMAX Technika Tune (You can get the songs as DLC in DJMAX Respect, it doesn't play exactly the same - Technika on Vita and in arcades is a touchscreen game, other DJMAX games use buttons), and Drive Girls (It's an action, kind of musou-like game about girls that can transform into cars).
Games available elsewhere I enjoyed a lot on Vita:
Monster Monpiece has a Steam version, and is only available digitally in the west on Vita but I enjoyed that game as well.
Valkyrie DriveMind Zero, Ray Gigant, Conception II, Tokyo Tattoo Girls, Criminal Girls I and II, Senran Kagura Bon Appetit (all have Steam versions, but physical is exclusive to Vita)
These also aren't exclusive (and a few are imports), but: Child of Light, DOA Xtreme, Moe Chronicle, Miracle Girls Festival, Hatsune Miku Project Diva F and F 2nd, - gosh I've enjoyed so many games on Vita.
I've been looking at Disgae 3 in particular because I have a few of the complete ones on the Switch, though I do wonder if that'll see a complete version someday as well so I may continue pushing that one off too 😅
Awesome video! I'd love to hear your opinion on the downloadable ps vita content like dlc's and which you'd recommend.
Recently bought a Vita and oh man i love it hacked it because its so easy and now everywhere i go i take it with meee
Great video thanks for the information
Gravity rush is hand down one of the best best games on Vita. I really think if Sony hadnt abandoned it and marketed Gravity Rush as the "must have, must play" game for Vita, and invested into the franchise a little more, it could have brought a more mainstream audience to the Vita. I 100% recommend picking it up! Its such a shame Gravity Rush 2 didn't release on Vita and didnt do so well on PS4!
Hey! New subscriber. Just found your channel today. Enjoying your content so far. That's all, thanks!
Aww yeah, Shining Force is a SRPG I've been meaning to try. It's too bad we're unlikely to see that re-released again here.
Thank you for sharing your collection!! So cool! I also have a ps vita
Yes you can get fan patch for trails vita
Correct - the physical cart doesn't include English. But there's either a fan patch or an option to add the PC translations to the Evolution PS Vita on the modded systems.
I'm jealous of all your vita collections.
Yes yes yes! The video i never expected but i needed from you 😍
Gravity Rush is one of my fave games of all time. It’s a rarity that has no equal except for its sequel. Hope you enjoy it!
Thanks, I'm hoping to find a copy soon!
love vita videos, other channels i watch that do them all agree, when youve experienced vita, you trulyappreciate it a lot and see how big of a wasted oppertunity it was had sony not given up on it, (for those wondering, xbox performmed a kamikaze at e3 2013 and allowed sony to take the home console throne, so for the whole generation, sony allocated all resources to the ps4, giving up on the handheld market, and while it is sad, we had an incredible generation as the ps4 is now one of the best of all time thanks to the vita's sacrifice lol) but the vita is truly a special device, the switch owes everthing to sonys foundation it left with vita, all vita franchises migrated to switch now, so the vita is truly an important device!
Great collection!😊 I enjoyed the video! I love my modded slim vita! 🔥
POV: You were roaming YT looking for PS vita hidden gems... You died and woke up in heaven to a jRpg collecting dark-haired PS vita angel. Everything's fine. 😊
Bought the lost child digitally right before it gotten delisted on switch. Haven't played it, just that losing access to it, made me impulse buy it 🫠
On the plus side, it was super cheap, under $10.
It's probably not up your alley, but I highly recommend Soul Sacrifice Delta. That game along with P4Golden were the reasons I bought a Vita.
I've been hearing high praise for Soul Sacrifice so I'm tempted to give it a try.
Tokyo Xanadu on the Switch is actually the 2nd Enhanced release of it since an enhanced release was already on the PS4.
Yup, I have the eX+ PS4 version.
So do I! Also Ys 8 is another of my favorites from Falcom. @@orbalology
Great topic the ps vita :) I have it too but my collection of vita games is quite small. I got the vita most for playing Tales of Hearts and Talea of Innocence. To bad vita games are so rare and uncommon here in Scandinavia.
Sorry to hear they're difficult to find in Scandinavia! I never see them out in the wild over here, so I have to rely on online options.
Love these videos, always looking for new games to play. I am very late to the RPG scene.
Glad I could offer some more RPG recommendations! :)
The vita is really a special handheld. Have you considered getting a PS Portal to play some of your PS4/5 games handheld? I'm still a bit torn myself.
@@orbalology I’ve thought about it but decided against it ultimately. When it comes to handheld experiences I’ll stick to the Switch. I bought the PS5 for the sole purpose of using it on my TV at the end of the day. Now if they decided to make a Vita successor then that’s a different story. 😅
I never own any playstation hand held but I do like that a lot of these are coming to switch
I'm fairly new to them too, having grown up with the Nintendo handhelds. The vita itself is a pretty neat system that seemed to be ahead of it's time. But it's nice that many of these games are now getting ported to the Switch since it's much more accessible on there.
Great video. As always
I think the ps vita is an amazing piece of hardware especially for the time of its release. But ultimately it just became a thing I played Persona 4 Golden and Ys: Memories of Celceta and that's kinda it. I really should look into modding mine 🤔
It's a great system to mod!
Im 28 vita games away from the full North America set. I’ve been working on it for 6 years. I have a total of 345 vita games.
good luck on getting them, thats really cool 👍👍
Took me like 10 tries to finally get it 😭
Sorry to hear this was another recommendation that didn't work for you though :(
@@orbalology Thank you Emily for replying back to me.
Happy collecting! I've heard mixed things about Tales of Heart R, but they're overall mostly positive.
@orbalology I'm big into the Series and rn I'm liking every game I've played minus a couple
