    Be careful brother, just lost a good friend from a 55 mph crash on his bike, someone pulled out in front him, he hit them, flew over the car, and when he landed his brand new ruroc 4.0 split straight down the face and up the skull and killed him on impact from the massive failure. I've heard a lot of horror stories about these helmets and just recently had it happen to someone I was close with. Shared this on your original video of the 4.0, but figured it'd be easier to see on a recently video. Stay safe out there and keep it rubber side down 🙏

    I got the Hollow. I have been ogling over these since the original launch, and have always had some skepticism. First was they were new to motorcycle helmets, but stayed in the loop as best I could watching the improvements. When I saw the Changes made on the 4.0 I decided, and had the funds to finally give them a try knowing the issues of the past still was skeptical. Received it within of ordering,(shipped out of Cali)tried it on to make sure it fit and was pleasantly surprised. Took it out over the weekend surprised again, it is quite comfortable and quieter then both my other helmets (hjc i70, and a Sedici Strada 2). The Shockwave system is pretty loud, but hard to manipulate, I think they need to either make the buttons more pronounced, or handlebar controls.

    FYI, I’m in Texas. I ordered my helmet Wednesday and received it Monday from that California warehouse.

  • @ROBSOLUTELY
    @ROBSOLUTELY 2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    Overpriced! Ruroc quality matches most $200 helmets. If you want to spend a lot of money on a quality helmet, buy a Shoe or Aria. If you want a quality helmet for a great price, buy a Voss. Voss offers style, quality, pinlock and basically the same features as Ruroc for around $200 shipped. And Voss helmets are super comfortable too. Ruroc has had 4 times to get the Atlas right, meaning they are using customers as beta-testers. Beta testers should NOT have to pay a high price to help a company fix product issues.

    • @Skipshift
      @Skipshift  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I agree with a few of those points. The customer betas testers thing does get under my skin. I will say though that the 4.0 and my Arai are comparable in comfort and noise but the Arai construction is better in some ways. I continue to wear both helmets on a regular basis aside from the 30 days of Atlas 4.0 testing. The 4.0 is truly not in the same realm as previous Atlas helmets though, this is coming from a person who was anti-Ruroc since the purchase of the 2.0. Take that for what you will.
      Cost wise, the Ghost Atlas was $475, my Arai Defiant was $510 on sale from Revzilla. The 1.0-3.0 was the equivalent of a 200 dollar helmet, I'll give you that though.
      I haven't laid hands on a Voss, so I can't make a comparison there.
      Either way, ride safe and thanks for checking out the video ✌️

    Just crashed the other day so I'm looking into a new helmet. Is the Atlas 4.0 compatible with the pack talk com units? How does it compare to the scorpion exo-1400 carbon?

    • @Skipshift
      @Skipshift  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I've never ridden in an EXO-1400 but I did look at one up close and try it on at Cycle Gear.
      I have an intermediate oval head shape and didn't like how the scorpion sat on my head, and I wasn't a fan of the pointy chin since I planned on mounting gopro to the helmet. I do know of a lot of riders that really like the EXO though, so it would be worth trying one on if you have a shop nearby. It may fit you better than me.
      As for the comm unit, I just installed a cardo on mine using the adhesive mount and it works great. The velcro is already in the helmet in the right spot so you can drop everything right in.

    • @Skipshift
      @Skipshift  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I highly recommend measuring your head and adding just a little bit for comfort.
      I measured at about 23.5" circumference with an intermediate oval head shape. I added 0.25" for some extra room to wear a balaclava or gator when its chilly, and that put me at the top end of the M/L size helmet so I went up to the L/XL and I think it was a good choice for my head size.
      The neck roll and cheek pads still feel snug going onto my head, and once the helmet is on it still has a good hold after a month of break in.
      Hope that helps! 👍

    The 4.0 looks like it is everything the 3.0 wasn’t which is a very good thing. I still have my reservations about the fact you can’t go into a shop and try before you buy . Helmets need to fit properly to work properly and the customer isn’t always right .I sadly have seen people wearing helmets that clearly don’t fit that they have gotten off the internet because they can get them cheaper . I would love Ruroc to produce helmets that take on Shoei and Arai in terms of quality etc the 4.0 looks like it is getting there .

      100% agree.
      If the the 1,2 and 3.0 had never happened, this version of Atlas would not have stirred up as much controversy as any of those, I think.
      If they can/will make the helmets more accessible for test fitting and something like in-store pickup would be good. I think those two things would help them more than they know.

    • @Skipshift
      @Skipshift  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@DawidMore Both the Atlas 4.0 and X14 are solid lids. A lot of people still hate on Ruroc because of the past helmets and customer service problems. Between my Arai and Atlas I find myself in the atlas more often lately. It's nice and quiet, especially with ear plugs in, and the field of view is pretty wide open.
      There's a little jump in price to the X14 from what I remember, but it depends what you'd rather ride in. If you have a CycleGear or similar shop close by that you can try on the Shoei it would be worth the trip. The only Shoei I've had on was an RF1400 and after about 10 minutes I got a little bit of a hot spot behind my ear on the mastoid area of the skull.

      They did have quite a few available during the launch, but it seemed like most of them sold out in the first few minutes. I'm not sure how they haven't caught up in the 2 months since. If the order quantity is high enough to put them this far behind, it may be time to invest into better productivity.

      Also I think out the chin curtain could definitely cause road debris and without a pinlock could cause some fogging, that's the reason for it being there. But the wind noise on one side and the rubber strip coming off sounds weird. I'd say get in touch with Archie @ Ruroc when you return it and let him know what's going on. I'm sorry, but Ruroc is out of my league.
    Too many flaws and poor quality for the money.
    I might try the Atlas 10 in the distant future.

    The cost of this helmet is absolutely absurd for what it is.... the fact that ruroc makes these overpriced Simpson clones that are known to be loud, not vented properly, and known poor QC. I'll keep my Arai and Shoei lids

    No matter what anyone says about this helmet, it's a $200 dollar helmet with $300 dollars of carbon fiber and $200 of marketing. And a $100 extra visor in the box. Weird how it's only payed TH-cam motorcycle guys standing behind it.

      Except I and several others are not paid and actually bought our own helmets.
      They stepped it up a lot for the 4.0, but have already earned a bad rep from the previous helmets, so a lot of people won't give it a chance based off of that history alone.
      100% I would say the 1.0 and 2.0 weren't even 200 dollar helmets. I had a 200 dollar helmet that was 10 times better than the 2.0.
      The wonderful thing about opinions is we can all have one.
      Hope you have a good day regardless bud ✌

    Mine certainly hasn’t been worth the money as the inner and outer shells have separated at the brow and the inner is exposed!!! Told to return for inspection, like I want that lid back, and told the brow separation is “common”, even sending me a photo of one of theirs to reassure me!?! Reassure me? Frightens the living fuck out of me to see that. Fuck that being on my head!!!! Asked for refund, now getting ghosted. Legendary Ruroc customer service now shows its ugly head.

      That sucks man. If you are willing to share pictures of that to me via email I would like to see and share them. I read a review where someone said they had some separation, but they had no pictures of it.
      Hopefully they get you taken care of and not continue the shady customer service.

      @@Skipshift absolutely, got a few pictures I’m happy to share. Worryingly the inner shell moves with finger pressure. To be told it’s common and have a photo sent to me showing their helmet with exposed inner shell is proper worrying. Send me your email and I’ll send the photos over.👍

      @Jim Riley Thanks for sending those over. I'm not as concerned about the liner being visible like it is in those pics, but the ability to move it concerns me a lot. If it was just out of position but firmly in place I'd say they glued it into the shell out of position, but with it moving I'm wondering if it was glued in at all, or obviously not very well. I'm going to see if I can dig up any information on their assembly process and go from there. Thanks again for bringing this up.

    I just don't trust Ruroc at all. Yes they are def cool looking helmets and have so many awesome choices to choose from. I still choose my life over looking cool out there. I will never ever EVER purchase a Ruroc no matter how good their marketing is and no matter how many movies their helmets end up in. Please guys stay away from Ruroc.

      I can't tell if the helmet in your videos is a 3.0 or 4.0. The design looks like a 3.0, and those were in fact garbage tier helmets. I've still yet to have any problems with my 4.0 from the first part of the release. I've seen where later helmets had some QA issues. What version is your helmet and what's junk about it?
