Did Ruroc Finally Get it Right with the Atlas 4.0?

  • Ruroc and their helmets have largely been a horrible experience for me and I have had their Atlas 2.0, Berserker, and the Atlas 3.0. In each of these helmets, I have had horrible fitment problems, quality issues, and extreme wind noise. So they recently released the Ruroc Atlas 4.0 and have made claims that they have listened to the issues people have had and they have fixed them and have made major improvements on the quality, fitment, safety, and comfort of the Ruroc Atlas helmet. But have they? Join me and we'll talk about this Ruroc 4.0 and I'll give you my opinion....

    So happy they finally fixed a lot of these issues. I'm a bit worried about the size but I did follow their chart. I was half way between sizes so I went up a size. It better be damn good though as the total price with the helmet, shockwave, pinlock, crash insurance, etc came out to just over $900. I am a bit curious on the shipping time though since they have always had issues with shipping on time. I see other say they got theirs quickly, but I ordered mine as soon as they became available on Feb 18 and here it is March 21 and have heard nothing on when it will be here.

      @@ferris8541 It was painful getting on my head. Hurt my brain when I finally got it on. Hurt my ears really bad when turning my head left or right. Started to get scared because it was super hard to get off and had to take a couple of breaks with the helmet half way off my head because it hurt so much. My head was throbbing afterwards. It's weird because the shell is much larger than the Bell that slides right on my head. it's just that the opening is super tiny. I have a neanderthal forehead, so maybe that's why... idk. The inside padding was super snug(more snug than normal snug) and perhaps would have broke in and felt better, but that opening was just to hard to deal with. I sent it back for a size swap to the next size up and that isn't scheduled to be delivered until the end of July. It's going to take me 6 months, from the time of initial order, to get a helmet that hopefully maybe fits.

    Hey dude, Great video. I watched GearsandGadget and when he said the 4.0 was replacing the RF-1400 I was shocked as he had the transition lens as well.
    I was looking at the 1400 as my next helmet, but maybe I should be looking at the 4.0 as well. Someone who is willing to cut open a helmet and laugh at the helmet earned my respect about giving an honest review of the 4.0. Now youwith all the issues you had in the past with Ruroc, switching from the RF-1400 with transition lens to the 4.0 is making me thinking about it even more now.
    Couple questions for you.
    -How did it fit compared to the 1400? so if the 1400 needed a Medium, was the Ruroc a medium as well?
    -Speakers, I know you have the shockwave so you might not be able to answer this, but Do you think the Cardo packtalk bold 40mm JBL's will fit in there without pushing up against the ears?
    Reason I ask this question, is I am currently wearing a AGV K6 (that fits good other then the padding is wearing to quickly and needing to be replaced), My wife bought my son and I cardo packtalk bolds and no matter how I adjust the speakers, they are pushing up against my ears and bothering me now. The helmet never bothered me before the speakers were put in other then I find it loud.
    What are your thoughts?
    Can't wait to see a Vlog with the helmet on to hear the volume of wind and exhaust. Thanks for the video and hopefully answers to my questions.

    • @dadwithabike
      @dadwithabike  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for the thoughtful comment. Let me try and answer all your questions.
      1. The Fit. So I wear a Medium in an RF1400 and that translates to an ML in Ruroc. Best bet is to measure your noggin and follow their website instructions for picking the right size.
      2. Speakers. They should fit just fine. The Ruroc 4.0 have deeper wells for the speakers and they almost cup your ears. I think that's why the sound is much, much better in the 4.0
      So, the problem you MAY have is that your head is not an Intermediate Oval head and may be a more Oval head. If you have a Cycle Gear or a helmet shop near you go try on a few and see if you notice the difference. If that is the case, any Intermediate Oval helmet shape is going to give you problems with where your ears are when speakers are added. Now I can say this, in my Berserker and Atlas 2.0/3.0 the speakers did touch my ears - so I know for a fact that the had to have deepened the speaker well.

  • @fabinho69fs
    @fabinho69fs 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I have chosen the Shoei GT AIr 2 over the atlas 2.0 (And do not regret it). The 2.0 and 3.0 were miserable after some months. I know some that ordered them. And i am honest, I love the looks of the ruroc. But the poor quality and loudness kept me from buying one. Would you choose it again over the shoei if you had to buy it now? How does the shockwave system, compare to the shoei - senna srl2? AND if you open the visor on your ruroc a bit while riding low speed (like to catch some wind), does it still does that annoying wishle sound inside the helmet? Last one, how is the fitment, if one is between to sizes, should one go for the bigger one or smaller one?
    AHHH and min. 6:38 - did anything slipped, what is this strip above, looks like glue residue?

    • @dadwithabike
      @dadwithabike  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      So the shockwave is better than with my Sena 10C Evo inside my Shoei RF1400. The wind whistling doesn't happen anymore (or at least not on mine) and as for the fitment ... man I could tell you on that, best would be to ask Ruroc their opinion. Lastly, it's just the inner foam protection, nothing slipping.

      2.) The second helmet they sent me was also incorrect size, even though I used their size chart to measure my head and ordered the size for that measurement. They did pay for shipping back on this one.
      3.) Cheek pads were horrible, not me just griping, they actually released newer thicker cheek pads because of the mass complaints. They expected the owners of the 3.0 to buy the new pads.
      4.) Purchased these new pads because I was already so deep into the helmet figured may as well, the new pads probably would have made the recommended size fit because now the helmet was way too tight. When I emailed about this they responded "they will break in". I've ridden for well over 15 years...they should not take this long to break in. It hurts my jaw, I just removed them and use the old cheek pads.
      Ruroc is a great marketing company, and maybe this new helmet is good. However, the poor customer service and quality of the helmet has left a poor taste in my mouth. I will never purchase another Ruroc in my life, nor will I recommend anyone else.

    Hey Dad, thanks for putting out this video. I’ve commented on your past Ruroc videos and I had similar issues with the company’s service more than anything. I own a 2.0 and. 3.0 and I in the past have drank their koolaide. So I appreciate you doing this video.
    I’m so frustrated with the past experience that I’ve been holding off ordering the new lid, even with the good reviews, so people like yourself, Dan from gears and gadgets and Brett from ChopperFett are easing me into the decision… again. They aren’t cheap tho. I’m in Canada, so the cost is about $300 more for me. The shipping is more and we pay duty, that’s $150-$200 by itself.
    Do you trust the new sizing chart?? My 2.0 is an XL and I swim in it (that was my normal helmet size). My 3.0 is a L and it fit well with the original cheek pads, but I couldn’t get it on my head with the upgraded ones (more hype, didn’t fix the problem because it didn’t fit). The new sizing chart says M/L. So I’m not sure what that means, but I’m worried it’s snappers than a L and if they fixed the padding issues then is it going to be too small? Ugh! I just wish I could try one on at a retail store!
    Anyways, great video, I most likely will drop another $1000 on a Ruroc Atlas 4.0.

    I had been a ruroc user for years. Die hard. Had the atlas 4.0. Then. I recently got the Shoei rf 1400. Let me just say there is absolutely no comparison. The Shoei blows it out of the water on many levels. Quality-ruroc started falling apart fairly quickly. Rubber trim glued back several times. Chin skirt and cheek pads always popping out. And it was damn loud with lots of head movement at high speed. Now the Shoei i have looks and feels much higher in quality. From the interior. To the venting. To the shell sizing. Virtually no wind noise. Or satisfying low muffle at high speed. Zero head movement on highway. And the size of shell looks compact. The ruroc looked huge on my head. Anyway. Great video. Rf 1400 all day any day. It’s cheaper as well. And as cool as ruroc can look. I think the Shoei looks better in its understated sleekness and proper shell size to the head.

    Got a 4.0 customer service was horrible with huge delays and lies about delivery. Thennnn once the helmet came the seal that you mentioned for the 3.0 happened to my 4.0! I hadn’t even worn it out just tried it on. I emailed them about returning it and a week later still no reply! I was going to just get an exchange but I am going to stay clear of this company. I ordered a HJC 11 pro carbon and the built quality is 100% Better then ruroc. Plus it was 150£ cheaper.

    I enjoy my 4.0 quite a bit. It looks cool, fits well and the shockwave system sounds really good. My biggest issue has been the mic that comes with the system. Every call I've ever been on with it I'm told I sound static-y and I have to pull over and call them back after disconnecting. Helmet noise is amazing, even my harley with drag pipes doesn't kill my ears with the helmet on.

    I tried the 3.0 my friend had and it fit ok a little loose... I ordered the 4.0 for myself and while I'll say this looks amazing feels amazing I love the fidlock strap on it but I do wish they gave more room on the strap so it was more adjustable... the helmet itself doesn't fit me at all really. like in the 3.0 I could easily put two fingers between my face and the front vents... on my 4.0 I can't even get a finger in to flip the chin vent switch. the only way I could even get the helmet on my head was by removing the pads... So I tried to take out the cheek pads because I can't remember who but someone mentioned you could separate the layers to make it custom... nope they are glued and ripped. I still like the helmet but if their padding has to be so extreme they really need to make a size bigger shell as they did for the xxs helmet. I couldn't return it if I wanted to because the pads tore and the tag came off just trying to put the helmet on so I'm kinda pissed but in the end, it's my fault for buying a helmet online.

    I’ve been an Arai fan for may years and have owned 4 of them to date. I also own a 2.0 Ruroc and to be honest I don’t understand all the bashing. I think for what I paid the quality is good, it’s amazingly light, fairly comfortable and not as loud as people have reported. That being said I just purchased a 4.0 Superman and looking forward to comparing it to my 2.0.
