How many Miles has your MT09 when you do this job ? Another question: regardless of the tensioner, when should the timing chain be replaced ?
@memeacademy2295 my MT09 was around 9,000 miles when I did this install I think. Yamaha recommends 80,000-100,000 miles before a chain replacement, but it could be earlier if the oil is not changed regularly, or the engine is overheated occasionally.
I noticed you still have a very pretty sizable clunk putting the bike into gear with engine running at the end of the video. Any ideas? I'm guessing the clutch is dragging a bit?
@DearMajesty That clunk dropping into gear from neutral is from the clutch still spinning from idling with the clutch engaged. If I start the bike with the lever pulled in and drop it into first it's not as pronounced. There is likely some clutch drag anyway, but nowhere near the clunk you hear from some other bikes. Harley's, for example, are very loud going into gear after idling in neutral.
Alright. So hear me out… One, this is by far one of the best made videos I’ve seen, especially for this clutch. You showed pics of the manual, classical music and clear concise video angles and instructions. Great! Wish more videos were like this. You also showed the diagnostics very clearly and options on fixing it, very thorough very well done sir. But* You did not mention that in the parts schematic that they want different plates and at different sections. Not friction, those are correct, also on the thin frictions they do have colors (purple) on the ends which you didn’t mention. No, it doesn’t make a difference but I like to line up all the colors. And I missed the first one because you said the “larger ones” have it. And I wasn’t about to pull the stack back out. All of the plates all have numbers and I put those facing out. Again just being meticulous as you are which I really appreciate and I hope you can appreciate me writing this and pointing out a couple other details. Technically, I’d say the clutch was not installed correctly because you didn’t say the part numbers for each steel plate. Take a look at a parts schematic from any online retailer that offers the OEM exploded schematics and you can click on each one and see the part number. 4 total different part numbers and each has its place in the stack where Yamaha wants it. Not sure why but they do. Might come down to just getting the stack height, correct. But it’s something worth noting and mentioning. Also I liked the blue loctite over red as it wants in the manual, the smaller tips that fit, I use a punch on the tabs. Loctite in just the nut. And no grease is needed on that end piece. Pointless to put LS on there. My clutch pack was 43.58 mm with oil, I soaked the frictions before measuring unfortunately but like you pointed out, it’s just a slight difference with that film of oil. I think that’s where the .08 comes into play, not sure how close .08 is to where you where also over? I also thought it was odd you went SAE over metric on that measurement but you must be old school. I’m 40 so I’m also up there lol. I did not know which way the concave faced on the chatter Springs, even in the manual it doesn’t really tell you at least I couldn’t figure it out, so thank you for that. Wish you really showed the convex on the one. But it’s hard to see. There’s also an updated part number on the plates. Again, take a look at the OEM schematics from a retailer. 2.0 & 2.1. I’m actually hoping you can look into that more and tell me what that’s all about. I must have the older version because from the clutch kit I bought which is unfortunate. but as long as it does, what it’s supposed to do in about a year I’m gonna buy a recluse auto clutch for it. Or maybe that Kevlar kit offered by Barnett. So anyhow. Just wanted to formulate my thoughts on here, point those out to you and ask those questions hopefully, I can get a good detailed reply. If not no worries and thanks again for making the video. Lastly, I can’t believe you only have 695 subscribers. And I never even found this video until ChatGPT suggested it to me. Comparing this high-quality well done instructional video, to so many others on YT, it alludes me that you’re not 100k+ in subs. Thanks again man!
So the spring washers. The flat one goes on first than, Does the conical spring have the convex (outward portion) going away from the bike? And concave towards the bike? And does that go on second. Than a thin disc and so on?
@desertrider325 At about 13:32, there's a portion of the diagran on screen to help. The thin flat disc goes in first, and the conical spring goes in with the smaller end toward the thin disc (toward the bike). The thinner friction disc goes in next, followed by a steel plate and so on. At 14:33, you can see the order of the friction and steel plates going in. Hope that helps 👍
The music made me love this guy and I had no idea I’d like this type of music to motorcycle repair jobs, I think I’ll play this while I do this job.

your video is clean well done. i just hit subscribe
i dont understand how you took the rear seat off
@@cugnuggler there is a keyed latch under the left side of the tail fairing that unlatches the rear seat on that model.
Thanks for your video... I actually just did this today and after installation it started right up and sounded normal (no ticking). I ran it about 30sec. Then an hour later i went out to ride and it started up again but after only 3-5 sec it sputtered and died. Now it won't start. Any thoughts? Ideas?
@lezipOD A sputter before shutting off would be air or fuel related more than likely. Check for fuel and spark if you're able and see which one is missing. I can't think of any connectors in the area that may have gotten unplugged or pinched during this install process.
Hello, i have a “problem” i just bought 2021 tracer 9GT and i hear a noise from clutch when stacionary no noise when i pull clutch only when its in neutral, othar than that clutch and gear shift work perfectly fine, i found on YT a lot videos whether people complain if the sound is normal even on new bikes or not… ??
@amilaganovic5030 It could just be a little slop in the clutch basket. I've heard that from a lot of bikes that operate perfectly fine for years. If it concerns you too much, taking the side cover off of the engine isn't that big of a deal to get a visual on the basket. Check for play in the clutch basket, rotationaly and "wobble" on the shaft. Check for broken clutch discs and any slack in the clutch pack. All of that said, it could just be a noisy clutch. I've had a few Hondas, Suzukis, and other brands over the years that always had a little neutral noise but ran and shifted perfectly fine the whole time. If you start feeling a lurch or surging while under constant throttle, then it may be a sign of mechanical issues.
@ i have contacted a few bike shops and most of them said its normal because clutch is free and not under tension but when it engaged clutch sound dissaper for 100%, i actually only hear it when on red light and with helmet ON then i can hear all vibratios of bike etc. when helmet of only can hear it if get ears close to clutch itseft
Thanks bro, I needed this!
Thank you Sir, I learned all the details I was looking for.
What do I do if someone stripped the Allen bolt out before I bought the bike? 😐
That's a tough one. You can try getting some vice-grip style pliers on it and see if that works. It may have to be drilled and maybe a screw extractor will get it loose if they didn't overtighten it.
What camera did you use to film this
I used a Sony ZV1 to record with. It has a good field of view and gives a good bokeh on up close shots.
Sir this video it’s there clearest explanation every I watched. Thank you so much
Amazing explained!!!!🙂🙂
I've had my Ruroc carbon track for about 2months I absolutely love it. Field of vision is huge amd the weight is light. The red visor I wear day amd night and can see perfectly in both situations and the only thing I had to mess with was the pin lock fitment. I received it in less then a week from California.
Nice no bull review. Appreciate it. Nice job.
This was the most in depth review with no bs because your not sponsored so no biased opinion this video deserves to blow up because you went head over heals in great detail and legit factual comparison’s thanks for sharing🙏👍 subscribing now
Thank you for the review, your audio sounds great, what mic setup do you use?
I used the Tascam DR10L for that recording and audio was later synced in post.
Just in the same way, similar symptoms are occurring in XSR900. It was very helpful. The video is wonderful for you. And it's very polite. By the way, was there a sound even in the neutral gear state? GROOOOOOONNNNKKKK ♩
I never noticed the noise in neutral, only while off throttle in gear. Usually low rpm also.
To jest to samo na jałowym
I tightened it as much as I could by hand and never heard the whining noise of being to tight, when cold i have the chain 1/4 turn tighter than when warm to get the rattle to be gone should I stick with a 1/4 turn tighter so it's not rattling on cold start? I'm worried it's to tight.
If the bike still rattles when cold should I tighten it up a bit? It rattles until about 130 degrees, I don't want to over tighten it
You could make a few small adjustments and see if it makes a difference. Go maybe 1/8 or 1/4 turn at a time so as not to overtighten the chain. If you hear a light "whining" noise then back the tensioner off slowly until the whine goes away.
@Skipshift is the whirring very noticeable? The bike whines/whirrs normally and I'm worried I won't be able to tell
You could also increase the brightness on the cluster.
The brightness is maxed 😬 The blue overlay dims the display a lot, but it's still visible enough during the day and plenty bright at night.
@@Skipshift nice imma install the yellow one tomorrow. going for black and yellow accents on my fz.
Thanks for sharing. The previous owner installed a MCCT on my FZ09 and I want to adjust it. Which wrench should I use to loosen the tighten nut of the MCCT? And if I understand correctly, after loosen the nut a little bit, I need a 4mm allen key to adjust the screw?
Thanks for this video. The most informative I've seen yet!!
Glad it was helpful!
Porque voce girou o motor manualmente? ( 6:49min)
Certificando-se de que o sincronismo do motor está correto. Se a sincronização estiver errada, as válvulas podem entortar e danificar o motor. Girar manualmente apresenta menos riscos do que usar o starter. Checking the engine timing. If the timing chain had slipped it could cause a valve to hit the piston and damage the engine. Turning the engine by hand let me feel for any collisions or binding without risk of bending valves.

Be aware if the nut come loos on these types of tencheners, it will destroy your engine ask me how I know.
Thank you soooooo much for this video! I have been messing with my new audio recorder and my mic placement for weeks, wondering why I am getting such horrible crackling audio! You were the only person to bring to my attention, how bad my mic actually is. I had no idea it was my mics fault, I thought it was my voice or my set up or my gain level settings I had changed one million times. This is a great video and deserves way more attention! Happy riding :)
You're very welcome!
What was the front sprocket torque spec? I got the speed sensor nut but not the nut for the sprocket itself. Also is this the same specs for a gsxr750?
The front sprocket nut torque is 83 ft-lb. Same on the GSXR750. 👍
Do you also have video without ndfilters?
Nope. I always used ND filters on the GoPros. The main difference was details in things like clouds and brighter textures. It gave a little more of the HDR look to the videos.
Thanks man! Perfect summary.
Ive got an MT09 GEN1.. 2014.. MY CLUTCH DOSNT MKE ANY NOISY SOUND.. MY ENGINE IS NOW AT 68.000 MILES.. my valves have never been checked.. so basically i would say.. STOP ABUSING UR MACHINE.. CHANGE PLUGS FILTERS AND OIL REGULAR.. no need for any silly noises if you respect your engine
Not checking your valve clearances is disrespecting your engine. As a Yamaha service tech, your CP3 has about a 66% chance of eating an exhaust valve in the next 10k-15k miles. Good luck!
Com quantos mil km vc fez a troca dos discos de embreagem?
Cuanta tension debe llevar la cadena de distribución??
Able to move slightly by hand. Maybe 1mm at most. Capaz de moverse ligeramente con la mano. 1 milímetro como máximo.
