That's why he is professional, you have to be open minded, like to learning new things, totally being passionate. Mr Wheeler, thanks for sharing your passion !
For shallower dirty water one technique i like to use is a 3/8 to 1/2 once darker colored (black/blue or balck/green) swim jig. i trim the skirt so on the pause it flares more agrresively and fish it similerly to a crank bait. I skip it under or through thick cover to the bank if possible and Immediately start the retrieve reeling at a medium to fast paste to keep it just off the bottom the key is to direct the bait so it rams into any available cover. Doing so makes the bait flare and change direction Like a crankbait and thats when ur strikes will happen.
I do love me some swim jig fishing! I fish a Dirty Jigs swimjig with either a 3.3-3.8 Keiteck Fat, a River2Sea Dwalker, or an Xzone Swammer swimbait trailer. Killer combo!
@@duskycotw8404 I throw basically 2 colors… white with a white keiteck and bluegill with the bluegill Keiteck ( goldish color ) . Just caught my first fish on a jig after so many tries. Talk about a rush. These videos really do help. Still at times get confused on if it's a bite or getting caught on something at times.
Great info! Been watching you, DC, Mdj and others for quite awhile now. Y’all have some awesome content in your vlogs. Definitely helps this amateur out. Keep’em coming.
Great Stuff Jacob! Love the "alabama shake", that yo yo method is typically my favorite when fishing through heavy cover. Underwater footage is key! Killin it!
Great video Wheeler. I am addicted to the swim jig. I have trouble trying other presentations for too long when that jigs does so well for me here in MN. I even sometimes use a snap swivel when I am around pike, it helps me from losing so many lures to those sharks. Seems to create just enough distance from the line that it doesn't end up in their teeth. I am sure I don't get as many bass hitting it, but it saves me money. If i was in a tourney i would have trouble justifying that philosophy. Thank you sir, and love watching your videos and watching you compete. Congrats on a phenomenal year!! Cheers.
Awesome video. I really needed this video. Ty for going into deep detail. I use a swim jig with a keitech swim bait for smallies in rivers or whenever I can find current over rocks and crawl it ever so painfully slow. I caught 4 small jaws over 4lbs last year in the West fork river here in West by God Virginia. That's a big smallie around these parts and not a huge river. Thanks again for the info. I had often wondered about the Alabama shake.
Watching for the 3rd year in a row, always useful info and there's always some little detail to pick up. Thanks for the info dump. Good luck at the next derb.
Those swim jigs really are a staple on the boat deck when im on lake Toho. I will literally have 4 rods dedicated to swimjigs and when u find em in the Kissimmee grass theyre always stacked up.
Great video as always and I will be adding your techniques to my repertoire. I have only ever straight retrieved a swim jig with 20+ # floro or 30+ # braid on a 7'3 to 7'6 MH with success. In the past, I would use a swim jig with a craw style trailer, but this year I have started using Paddle tail and zako swimbait style trailer.
My wife and I really enjoy the entertainment value you bring to MLF. You definatley are one of our boys! Ahhhhh ding!! I notice in the video you do not trim the skirts back to the hook like many suggest. Have you found this to be the most effective? I am over here on Lake Istokpoga for the Winter months. Fished here Winters for the past 4 years with waning success on plastic baits. Thinking of going heavy on swim baits this year. Thank you sir.
Thankyou for all u do!!!! your content made this old man a lot better fishermen really wanta see u nail the classic this year would bring me to tears 💪💰
Thanks for the stroll done swim jig lane! Super informative, I tend to throw either a craw or swimbait trailer. I like fishing braid but utilize flouro carbon 15 pound for most clearer water situations.
I have year round success running a jig a lot like a tube. Just a nice scoot and pause on the bottom anywhere where bait is hugging low. Twin tailed grub is a great all around trailer.
I use Krackin craws on jigs chatterbaits and by itself because I like the width of the claws and action as opposed to some other craw style baits that are to wide or not any action
an incredible good swim jig for keeping it easily at the top and going through lily pads is the booyah swim jig with the arrowhead even in the 3/8oz or 1/2 oz, very easy to keep it up , even really very slowly and riggin a paca craw on it and using superglue to hold it even better, thanks for all the awesome videos, we just need more ''dings'''!!!
I strongly agree with a) the paca craw or baby paca trailer, they are amazing, great on swim jigs, best on bladed jigs like the jackhammer! It’s the hallow body maybe. And B) i always super glue them in place and they stay put until they are beat! don’t glue the skirt tails
I love watching your videos on my home water! You missed an awesome derby a few weeks ago just ask Dan the man😉 Don't worry your invitation stands hopefully it works out for 2021 we'd be honored to fish against you JW !!!
Thanks for more information. You are definitely the best fisherman anywhere right now. What a roll your on. Keep up the great work because I definitely know you put in the time. Maybe some day I’ll see you at your favorite Mexican food spot I think.
I like running it about a foot off the bottom in a similar way that u do the alabama shake I really like doing that with a 3/8 or half with a googan swim jig combined with either a berkley soft ribbed swimbait I think that swimmer was made for chatterbaits but works really well
Great tips. My question is do you trim weedgaurd like on a standard jig? And one tip I have is try throwing an 1/8 oz white swim jig when fishing rivers matchup with a 3” pro blue/red pearl swim bait. Killer in moving water.
I use a few different swim jigs, I like the old school, strikeking sexyshad down here in florida, and blk blue both 1/4 and 3/8.i use the gambler swim jigs w the braid, and the sk jigs with floro 15 lb for clear open water. I use yum cristie craw for the craw trailer, and a flat top boot tail swim at for the swim trailer. Both can be cut down for matching up bait size. I prefer the floro if it's Brite out in stained or clear water, and the single layer skirt has better Secondary action with the shake...now the gambler jig has starflash round ru ber skirt that flares more like a regular full skirted jig, and with a agressive paddle tail w flat top creates more jig skirt pulsing ,and flaring. I don't trim out the inner skirt. For this setup I want the bulkier profile to look like a big pan fish or brim.and this jig draws big strikes! Less bites. And I fish these on a 7ft1 med hvy w a 6 to 1 reel for deep stuff, and 7to1 or higher for hvy cover,or around grass mats or open holes.retreives I keep simple, the cast and reel w rod tip shake, and the pump and glide w a few quick reels then kill it,which I use in edges of shade and Reed cover,or ambush points or pads and pockets.the craw trailer I use around rock and wood more to emulate a craw.and the swimbait is for bumping into padstems,or cover to create the reaction strikes. Great bait for when they go back.out to secondary points to recover after spawn, even shallow ponds have them pushed out deeper or mid lake. I find them where the contours first drop from.a shallow feeding flat to open water.or just outside the grass edges or elbows of the bank dropping off to deeper water. Edges are the important areas to target in small ponds with little or no cover.if I can dupe em on just a swimbait I'll do that to fish faster w winder. Conditions and use the vmc ballhead to a paddletail swimbait in 1/4 and 1/2. Works when it's got more surface chop and cloudy Conditions. The faster fall gives no time to inspect the offering, and flees like a escaped fish.
Just was wondering why you where the gloves with half fingers....do they help protect soft hands....or do they help keep from getting calises from the Fishing rod grip.

Hey, great video. I have a question tho. I have used swim jigs through all different types of cover in my chain and a bunch of different colors and trailers. They seem to not bite it very much. What can I do?
Presentation and retrieve can be very crucial. Where are you out of? If it’s somewhere they are very tight to cover a more finicky retrieve allowing the jig to fall around cover more could be beneficial. Or if it’s somewhere they’re super keyed in on baitfish in the middle of the pockets, burning it open water can also attract bass.
