You had a really good point in ther that I was thinking it didn’t know how to articulate with “ you want to be as subtle as the conditions of the water will allow” I feel like that applies to all fishing
I saw a couple of your videos but.....WOW this Crappie 101 turned me into a SUBSCRIBER - I have NEVER seen anyone so accurate and such great content. I fish in the Florida, Tampa Bay area - gulf and fresh water. (I'm the one with dark hair) ! ! I am also a real estate broker and instructor and "I truly recommend your video" to anyone serious about fishing. Your teaching skills are very professional, very clear and soft pace for anyone to follow. You've got a BIG FAN here. I fish from piers, docks, and I wade in skinny water. My preferred species are Mangrove Snappers, Sheepheads, Reds - Blue Gills and Crappies. TK YOU for your time & love your work ! !
I mostly fish for largemouth & striper but I will fish for crappie if I come across them. I just finally added electronics to my kayak after 9yrs. So I've been finding them a lot more lately. Just recently got access to small private lake that no one fishes in. It's packed fun of 14-25" crappie
Thank you! Im just learning how to fish for crappie and this is one of the first vids ive watched and i feel like i learned a lot. definitely more confident in my abilities now. Youre a G
What I know about fishing for crappie in the south is.... you can catch them on just about anything. Dont waste your money on dumb shit. Minnow and a hook is all you need.
I got four of em up north in lake sabego, ME All with a $1 Walmart fly spinner. I used a 1/4 oz line weight in 4feet of water.... Let the fly sink to about 2 feet.. reeled slow, no stopping.. .. took 20 minutes from my canoe.... Lol. So I agree. They bite about anything. Dumb, dumb fish
Funny you say that. I have never caught crappie on live bait, but do good with lures. However my little brother has stood right next to me and just landed crappie after crappie on minnows laughing at me not catching so much as a cold using minnows.
Im new to florida, and havent been fishing in well over 10 years, so using your videos as tutorials really has me feeling confident in getting back into it. Where im originally from(not idaho) we woukd just dig up our own worms, or bug and use them, so i have no idea on bait . So this is helpful in giving me an idea on what to use.
I've had other BPM baits th-cam.com/users/postUgkxCbNOWAGmn6nfbCbJDmasvBq7J38KZNw2 before and they've pretty much always came through for me with the suskie smallies here and even with the walleye and pike, but I realized I didn't have an "in-between" pattern so this junebug one fills that role in no problem. it pairs up magnificently with a junebug Zoom Z-craw Jr that was trimmed a couple millimeters before the hook slots and rigged sideways for that fatter panfish side profile while still being a nice'n'compact presentation, a real power-finesse bait. Hell, it was so pretty I even bothered to fotosketch the pic into a watercolor painting image just to show you it's beauty! Even the blades are really well made, sure, they're not of Hildebrandt-level exquisiteness but look at the bead's reflection on the colorado blade, definitely well-made! The only "problem" spot it had was a bald spot in the skirt but it was nothing that I couldn't easily fix with a but of tuggin'n'shiftin' with the strands for a couple of seconds, besides that it is pretty minty!
I enjoy your channel and watch as many episodes as possible. I'm a professional fisherman and specialize in crappie. Don't forget about jigs with a light wire hook that are easy to pull off hangups without breaking off. Thanks
Hi! Great explanation - I love seeing your YT channel grow and grow. Just as an idea for another vid: If you have a certain water condition, also sun makes an influence - therefore (and I am sure you do), you could explain how you select lure colors e.g. "clear water and sun" vs. "clear water and cloudy". Keep fishing!
I was having great success yesterday catching small bass and big blue gill with a brown natural colored Hellgrammite and a black 1/16th jighead, with slightly murky water and dark skies they sure found it easily.
This is a great video. I'm just now buying actual crappie plastics and have been so confused on what jig heads, colors and bodies to use. I've got more knowledge now. On a side note: could you also use these for trout. Thank you
Your videos are amazing! everytime I watch them, I'm excited to get back out there! I was on Arcadia lake bank fishing for about 3hrs and got skunk, I'm trying this out tomorrow!! Thank you
Would like to have seen you rig them on a rod. Good info though. Loop knot? Cinch? Upside down tail or not, bobber? I’m sure there is a presentation video, I just figured it’d have been part of a 101 video…..I’ll look for that one. Tight lines!
I have a couple soft plastics and some jig heads and I think a couple small idk I think there spoons, no idea how to use em tho. I mostly fish for bass and catfish.
If you want a cheap option with a super sharp and longer hook than the moon eye, check out Kalins crappie jigs. Wire keeper and comes in different colors and sizes and much cheaper than the vmc but also lighter. I throw the vmc when it’s windy and I need a little more weight.
Hey Southern, Ive got a question for further clarification; so I'm new to fishing this is about to be my fourth run out and I'm looking at bass, crappie, and bluegill. Where specifically do I find the crappie at? Towards the shore in the lake? In deep grass? Etc... I'd really appreciate some ideas, thanks!
Good stuff,.. I've only fished for crappie as a youngster, with a cane pole and a bucket of minnows. Now I know the jigs...thanks ...and your first louisianna red fish was a beast.. congratulations!
I don’t target crappie in moving water but I would go with a heavier jig until you find the size that gets your lure down to the depth you need it to be.
I love catching crappie, I only do well on a handful of lakes though. No where near the level of the guys that really know crappie. Years ago a guy showed me a trick, he caught one and pulled a piece off of it and it kinda looked like a frog in the water. Can’t remember what he did exactly.
Can you go a step further and show me how to put the hook in and do I cast it out and reel it in quickly? Or do I cast it out and let it sit, then reel it in slowly? Thanks for the tips.
I need to know where to find some crappie in northwest Florida panhandle I'm from Oklahoma and I Miss my 2lb and up crappie but I just need to know where I can get into some crappie please please someone help me out
I don't know how to put my hook through the crappie jig it looks wrong every different way I try and I can't find a single video that shows someone pitting the hook through the jig

This channel is going to blow up big time. Not only do you fish, you show tips and techniques which is the best of both worlds. Thanks for the tips.
Thanks brother I appreciate it!!
Finally! Someone who is easy to understand and willing to share useful information. Thank you!

Can confirm. We have caught crappie on just about everything, bread, corn, minnow bait, etc.
How do YOU hook the minnow?
@@Stoviecakes either thru the mouth out the gills then hook mid spine. Or just mid spine

Nice!
We dont have a lot of deep water here in South Louisiana were Im at. I also fish 1/64th oz jigs when its hot or cold.

I use these jigs for steelhead and they are surprisingly very effective I’ve also caught big browns on em
Nice!!

Have you tried a squid tail? They're good for KS pond crappie and caught a white bass on it at Lake of the Ozarks.
Great information sir. The crappie are hitting good where I fish in Pennsylvania. Time for a trip to Bass Pro to gear up.
🙌
This is the best crappie vid hands down.i got my mojo back..🔥🔥🔥a🐟bishwish!!!keep them lines tight knights!!!!!
🙌 🙌
Great information
Easy to listen to and follow along

Thank you so much. Very informative.

I have a couple soft plastics and some jig heads and I think a couple small idk I think there spoons, no idea how to use em tho. I mostly fish for bass and catfish.
great video man loved it very informational but what motion do you want to do with your rod when fishing these jigs
Very light twitches
awesome information again I love this channel

Pretty good info, what about how to reel in using crappie jigs?
There should be some good info on that on my other crappie videos. There’s a whole playlist dedicated to crappie fishing
@@southernsalt alright I'll look into it thanks
Thank you so much bubby. Never had anything explained.

This time of year they will be moving to shallow water to spawn look for structure in 6 feet or less.
@@southernsalt thank you very much! I got one lure for them currently; hopefully I can catch one. Lol
Love your videos man
Thank you 🙏
What sunglasses are u wearing
Better to throw small than big so they dont get spooked and see what they want👌.Great video and information
Thank you!!

I know this might be a dumb question but what jig set up should I use or what does anyone use on Quick moving water?
I don’t target crappie in moving water but I would go with a heavier jig until you find the size that gets your lure down to the depth you need it to be.

If you could only have 2 weights for jig heads which would you choose 1/32 & 1/16?
Yep those 2 sizes exactly
Can you go a step further and show me how to put the hook in and do I cast it out and reel it in quickly? Or do I cast it out and let it sit, then reel it in slowly? Thanks for the tips.
Do i need to add a scent or bait to jigs and lures? Or can i just toss them right in the water?
I don’t use scent at all so it’s definitely not something you have to have.
@@southernsalt oh, awesome. Thank you!
I love me some crappie fishing! Do you ever troll for them?
I don’t troll but mainly because I’m in a kayak and it’s a little tougher
Great tips thanks!
Nice Crappie fishing
Where can i get thoes jigs?
I need to know where to find some crappie in northwest Florida panhandle I'm from Oklahoma and I Miss my 2lb and up crappie but I just need to know where I can get into some crappie please please someone help me out

I’ll put something together for you. Look out for my next crappie video
I caught a crappie by accident and I'm hooked. Pun intended.
🙌 🙌
The same happened to me! Now I almost strictly fish for crappie
So throw a White color? Cool, cool!
🙌
Very nice

Preciate it
You bet!!
❤️👍🔥🔥

They also slay tarpon
Never tried that but I can see where the micro tarpons would be all over them
@@southernsalt yea they are my go to for juvenile poons just a straight retrieve it drives them crazy
Dang people he’s telling about the jigs not the rigs if you want a rig set up search that into the bar😭😂
I think you need to have closeups on your jigs. Too hard to see them otherwise.
This didn’t answer a single one of my questions. Bold claim
Maybe watch again I don’t think you listened well lol
Lake fork live baby shad
I mean all you need is a minnow or a worm🗿
