If you’re starting on a topical retinoid or if you’re having trouble tolerating one, here are a few picks to help you tolerate your retinoid. I like key ingredients in my moisturizers including niacinamide, ceramides, Hyaluronic acid and squalane.
    Hope this video helps!

Thanks for pointing out the clean/natural thing. The truth is that terms like medical-grade/clean/natural are not regulated terms. And yes, a lot of the clean/natural brands like to call their products "fragrance free" but that's only because they don't use synthetic fragrance but still insert essential oils, flower/fruit extracts, flower/fruit flowers or hydrosols.

Glad you mentioned Vanicream. I had a severe reaction to the retinol. So the doctor prescribed a one pound tub of vanicream. It pretty much worked overnight - after 3 days of dry, peeling, burnt skin.

Man I’m in my late 20s and I just never gave a damn about making my skin look better cuz I honestly never felt insecure about my skin problems. I just cleansed and moisturized and that’s it. I let my body do its thing. Plus I didn’t want to invest in a ton of skincare products because I just didn’t think it was worth it. But when I realized I’m almost 29, I had a change of heart. I decided that I needed to care more if I wanted to age gracefully. I needed to educate myself on skincare. I found this channel to be so informative and easy to comprehend. So I took the advice of Dr. Sugai and got on the retinol and Vitamin C and sunscreen bandwagon mostly from the CeraVe line. In just two weeks I noticed a difference for the better. I can’t believe it was so easy and I spent all my 20s with blackheads 😆 man I regret not starting sooner. I regret not investing in myself sooner. Teens, if you’re watching this channel, listen to Dr. Sugai! Start early and get into good habits. Your older selves will thank you!

It's such a shame so many things contain niacinamide. My skin burns and stings when I use anything with niacinamide in it. It's the only ingredient I have been sensitive to so far 🥴

This is exactly the video I was looking for. I was (still am) using a Trader Joe’s antioxidant moisturizer, I love it but I didn’t realize it has retinol in it and I don’t think it’s a good idea to be “doubling up” on retinol. I also use Differin gel. I will be trying on of the moisturizer you’ve recommended in this video, thank you so much!

Thank you for saying ‘peel around the mouth’, that happened to me. I recently jumped on the retinoids bandwagon starting off at every other night. After about a week I changed to every night. I almost freaked out and went back to every other night. I do moisturize and used a little Aquaphor because the dry feeling bothered me. It only lasted a couple days. I’m hoping to try every night again and use the Retinoids sandwich. So cool!

I am officially HOOKED to your channel; so many of the products you recommend have either been in my repertoire or on my wish list, and I just like your studied, no nonsense, science-based approach, backed up by your real life experience USING them all. ON OUR BEHALF lol.
Could you recommend a simple AM/PM product duo for my 85-yr old mom, with somewhat sensitive skin, who has NOT really been on any consistent or serious regimen her entire life? If it contained a mineral sunscreen in the am, that would be ideal (as I'm not sure how she reacts to chemical or hybrid sunscreens). She has all the 'issues' you'd expect at her age and of someone who has not sufficiently focused on anti aging: laxity, crepiness, sporadic dark spots, lines, wrinkles....
So, I don't know which ingredients would most benefit her without the side effects/irritations discouraging her from sticking with it.... She does NOT like to admit that she cares about such things, and feels it best to focus on one's inner beauty (though she IS GORGEOUS, for what it's worth) but she has reluctantly shared with me that she would like some 'help' selecting a few products to address her most pressing concerns. She has no illusions about achieving dramatic results, but if I could just find something to moisturize her skin and perhaps mitigate SOME of the damage, while staving off NEW damage, that would be great.
I've been considering the restore and renew am/pm from No 7 but know she'd 'feel' comfortable with an Olay product since she's familiar with the brand name. Not sure that even their 24 retinol/peptide that you reviewed would be suitable as she might become irritated, but I know the Olay line as assorted actives/ingredients and maybe one of the others could be a good starting point for her. I'm almost tempted to just get her that Vanicream you reviewed, and that I have subsequently placed in my Amazon cart. I also stumbled upon this body cream which any say is great for seniors with fragile skin, needing barrier boosting and strengthening: Cetaphil Restoring Body Lotion with Antioxidants for Aging Skin, Great for Neck and Chest Areas, Fragrance and Paraben Free, Suitable for Sensitve Skin 16 oz. Bottle and think I might just get that for body, but could definitely use some help devising an am/pm facial regiment. Thanks for any help / thoughts...🙏🙏🙏

I like that you included an option without HA (kiehls), it’s so hard to find products without it anymore. I find that having every product in my routine having it causes irritation in the form of redness around my nose, cheeks, and high forehead. Not only that, but it tends to backfire for me in drier climates, generally in the winter when it’s dry where I am. But it’s a little pricey. The illiyoon ceramide soothing gel is the product for me. Simple ingredients, no HA or essential oils, very cheap, large tube of product, works well for oily skin, has squalane for actual emollience.

True. If you live in a cold climate. Hyaluronic acid tends to dry your skin more. it pulls water out of your skin. I like glycerin more

@@bsaldy That's why dermatologists told us to wash out face and then DO NOT towel dry, put on HA when ur face is still wet, that way HA can pull water into ur face, then right away you put on lotion with a bit of oil in it to seal in the water that the HA just pulled into ur skin. I live in nevada desert and there were a few times i ran out of HA and the eczema on my face flared up cuz my face was too dry.

There are resources online that list products without hyaluronic acid. See "The Ultimate Guide to Moisturizers without Hyaluronic Acid", and "Sensitive to Hyaluronic Acid? Try These HA Alternatives Instead"

I live in the UK and generally find Sodium Hyularonate dries me out we have to remember it's not actually true HA in its pure form maybe that's why it's more drying 🤷

Ok I have a question. I actually have battled a form of ocd most of my life, dermatillomania, aka CSP aka excoriation disorder.... There really is NOT enough help out there for it, or products or product recommendations specifically targeted to EXTRA sensitive, raw, or broken* skin, that really needs extra TLC to help heal up and beat the odds when sometimes we’re unable to avoid re-damaging the skin. Anything to help speed skin healing... also things to help guard against or treat infection (just plain antibac ointment i guess?) Things to help prevent & treat scarring as well. All of this would be helpful. 🙏✌️ (ps. for me personally i live in Cali & its extremely arid here so... there’s that too. Almost? Maybe? too dry to use hyaluronic bc it might pull moisture out of the skin bc there really is no moisture in the air here 🏜😕 I’m not 100% sure if it helps me here or not 😕)

I’ve been using the Olay Retinol for a week and I’ve never seen my skin in such distress. I’m peeling and sensitive. I don’t see how this is an everyday product, it feel like a chemical peel. If I used this product everyday I won’t be able to use anything else. I feel it’s better as a treatment rather than an everyday product. As soon as I get my results I’m going right back to my hyaluronic acid, where the moistures at!

I use RoC retin a which causes some irritation. I was using CeraVe until it started stinging. I started using Aveeno calm and restore. Just wondering what you think of Aveeno.

Outstanding video. I’ve been watching your channel a ton lately to fine tune my skin care routine.
    I currently use
    -cerave hydrating cleanser
    - cerave retinol resurfacing (at night)
    - L’Oréal age perfect eye cream (for dark circles)
    Occasional face moisturizer (bravo sierra)
I’m looking to purchase a face moisturizer because I feel like bravo sierra isn’t necessarily a ‘good brand’ as far as dermatology grade at least. Who knows I may be wrong.
Anyways, I work with paint and chemicals so I wear a respirator all day at work. I clean my mask with paper towel and hand soap every few hours and wash my face with cerave 2x per shift. I wore a hat to work for over half a year so my temples have slight scars/acne
Even tho ‘the boys’ will smile and look at me funny sometimes when they see me with my face products, cuz there’s a stigma in society with men and personal hygiene, I’ve been really upping my hygiene game for a better, more confident life.
All in All I just wanted to share my appreciation for you and the work you put out in ur channel, thanks for listenin
