  • No one told us how much maintenance our 5 acres would be 😅, especially during the summer when our property becomes a jungle. This week we are searching for the best method to tackle taking care of the property faster and effectively with the Lane Shark on the front of the tractor and our new bush hog on the back! This property is about to get a major makeover!

    Fyi, the bolt where the pto shaft connects to the gear box is called a shear bolt. It's there to protect the gear box on the brush hog. You are doing a great job with your cleanup. I love following along with all of your projects.

    I wouldn't mind zying. Y'all get a limb mulcher and mulch up some of them. Electric limbs that you got laying around and you know kind of get you. A couple of those metal raised beds and put that in the bottom of them. I start your little garden with them with it. Because that'll be hold in the moisture. And then put your dirt on top of that. They're about 2 foot tall, so you just fill them half with that ground up tree limbs and then I fill the other half with dirt. The limbs that are composting at the bottom, taking holding the moisture, while the plants grow and the roots grow in it, and then they keep. Grown, you don't have to water as much.

    I vote yes on the clean up videos. More importantly, please, please, please, do not stand anywhere near the brush cutter when in use. It can throw rocks, stumps, debris hundreds of feet and people have been killed. A chain type guard helps, but isn't a guarantee. And yes, they are very noisy as they do their thing. You both were spot on with your assessment of the first time being the longest/toughest. Once it is cleared, maintaining it will be much easier and faster. Maybe twice a year, late Fall and Spring will keep it maintained. The weeds a d brush will take off growing in the Summer but unless you are going for the manicured look, it will wait till the Autumn. Great job! Love the combo of those two attachments!

    Good combination you are using and being careful about what you are running over helps too. Get some spare sheer pins and blades and oil for the brush cutter, so if you hit something and the pin breaks or blade gets bent it's a simple task. Will get easier after you've done the first cut through the unknown areas.

    We have a Quick hitch on our tractor, it does make things difficult at the start but once you get the implements set up for it it makes a lot easier. only one implement I have that will not work is the 8 inch auger which requires removing the top link as the frame mounts in its place.
    Its not used that much. But you will come to find hook up is easier.

    Love y'all and your relationship! So encouraging to see a young couple working together to make a future. I would recommend returning the quick hitch and getting a Pat's quick hitch. I saw it on this link from Tractor Mike( th-cam.com/video/6Rsdr-wz4f4/w-d-xo.htmlsi=xzo53uDDU1AFFrWc ). The land pride quick hitch I got with my Kubota 5 years ago made the pto attachment difficult and crowded. The Pat's system is so much easier and versatile. I used the quick hitch on my landscape rake to add down weight!! Keep up the good work!!

    Yes, bush hogs do make a racket sometimes but you'll get used to it. They can handle more than you think but having less blades and being larger blades, they like to complain. You can easily handle 2-4 inch saplings. Also, get an extra shear bolt for the PTO connection because, well, stuff happens. Wish my tractor had front hydraulics, I'd love to use a lane shark to clear wood line on my 20 acres!

  • @scottmorris4914
    @scottmorris4914 12 วันที่ผ่านมา

    For that three point quick hitch, can you use a pin with a cotter pin instead of the botls at the top? If you still had to move it, with the pins it would be easier.

    By the way Brush hogs are noisy you will get used to the sounds and when it quits making sounds while cutting you most likely have sheared a pin. keep several for those times trust me if you cut long enough you will shear a pin. Only thing that stopped mine was running into a pile of steel which required a cutting torch to remove it, no damage to mower just a shear pin and back in business..

    Just curious, how many of the poisonous snakes slither around your property? By keeping the brush down you can see them better and in my opinion a poisonous snake is only good if it is dead!! I feel for Molly being pregnant during these hot, very humid months! My wife and I moved to Northwest Arkansas to live with our daughter and her beautiful family in Springdale. I'm not a big fan of the humidity but it is nice seeing the sun more often than we had in the Puget Sound in Washington. I do miss our 5 acres of cedars, alder and doug fir and a whole lot of underbrush.!! Stay safe and enjoy the journey you are about to experience with the arrival of that little man! A friend from afar. D

    I prefer a flail mower over the rotary cutters on the rear. My usual setup is flail mower on the back and laneshark on the front. Laneshark knocks things down and flail mower just chips everything up to 2 inches or something, although Ive gone larger than that. Thats just with a similar size tractor to yours. We have a larger tractor and flail that will do up to 3.5 inches.

    I'm not familiar with your geography so I'm curious about why you feel you need to clear growth and cut trees so much? What we're seeing more and more where I live, rather than manicured sterile grass, is preservation of habitat for critters. Cut/maintained trails through the property would be awesome for walking, etc but clear cutting for the sake of clear cutting seems old school and a waste of a lot of things - fuel, time, habitat, wear and tear on machinery, etc. Just wondering, I'm sure you have your reasons.
