The house next door to us is only lived in 3 months out of the year. The owner lives at her brother's the rest of the time. The house is left to rot when she's not there and the rest of the street is left to take care of her front garden because it looks abandoned most of the time. We feed and water whichever neighbour it is who takes their turn doing her yard. Abandoned houses get broken into. We're doing ourselves and her a favour...not that she sees it as such.... Old mate should've realised it was in his interests to have that house cleaned up, instead of b*tching about it to the police.

Several years ago, my son, who was in second grade at the time, was in ICU in a coma. I did not want to leave the hospital at all. When we brought our son home, we found that someone had mowed our yard while we were away. I never found out who did that, but it meant so much to me that someone did that for us. Leaving the skin complexion out of the equation because it doesn't really matter. I see it as a local dude who likely knows the history of the property getting all up in Sean's business because he sees himself as the caretaker of the lot for whatever reason and Sean was there performing deferred maintenance without his permission. The confrontation could have happened in any neighborhood, regardless of the ethnicities of the landscapers or residents involved.

Check that for a moment. You don’t know the history of that neighborhood. They may have had bad interactions with white people coming into it, and that can go all the way back to the 60’s, some of which he may have lived through. He’s protecting his neighborhood, so I’d show him some grace. Sean did probably because he understands the history of the area.

he was so worried cuz he was asked by police to report things like that to make sure the mower guy is in the same boat with them selling the property. That's it: city, police and neighbour people trying legally take over the property and sell it. That's better than if some narco squatters would burn it down.
In our area the members of a local church decided to help out a senior citizen that couldn't maintain their property anymore but had no where else to go and no other family. The church members showed up on a Saturday morning (all 200 of them). Took care of the property. Noticed that the roof needed major repairs. Took donation right then and there, two hours later a truck rolled up with all new roofing material and a dump trailer for the waste. With six roofer teams the roof was stopped and redone before sundown. All from the grace and goodwill of people that stepped up to do the right thing.

I used to cut vacant weed lots in my city neighborhood. Lot behind my house was getting really tall and neighbor lady was always complaining how the city should be doing it, the city should be doing it. I finally tackled it and cut it and she got mad as hell because I did it when the city should have done it. Another older lady neighbor ( bad neighborhood ) I cut the lot next to her after they tore the house down. She got mad at me because I cut it ' whenever ' and was not cutting it on a weekly schedule.
Stop him from raising the neighborhood's property taxes? Very few things can be safely put into the purely "good" category. You don't live there, you only see the good. I see an increase in my monthly bills because the areas value went up and now the bank wants more money from me each month.

When we brought our son home, we found that someone had mowed our yard while we were away. I never found out who did that, but it meant so much to me that someone did that for us.

If someone came to my neighborhood and raised the property value of the area that would result in me paying more taxes. Don't give me that nonsense about my house's value increasing too, most people don't plan on selling their home like your rich jerks do to make a buck. We live in them, and plan to have our children live in them. Raising the property value does NOTHING for me but increasing my monthly bills. I see it as a local dude who likely knows the history of the property getting all up in Sean's business because he sees himself as the caretaker of the lot for whatever reason and Sean was there performing deferred maintenance without his permission. The confrontation could have happened in any neighborhood, regardless of the ethnicities of the landscapers or residents involved.

Check that for a moment. You don’t know the history of that neighborhood. They may have had bad interactions with white people coming into it, and that can go all the way back to the 60’s, some of which he may have lived through. He’s protecting his neighborhood, so I’d show him some grace. Sean did probably because he understands the history of the area.

he was so worried cuz he was asked by police to report things like that to make sure the mower guy is in the same boat with them selling the property. That's it: city, police and neighbour people trying legally take over the property and sell it. That's better than if some narco squatters would burn it down.
In our area the members of a local church decided to help out a senior citizen that couldn't maintain their property anymore but had no where else to go and no other family. The church members showed up on a Saturday morning (all 200 of them). Took care of the property. Noticed that the roof needed major repairs. Took donation right then and there, two hours later a truck rolled up with all new roofing material and a dump trailer for the waste. With six roofer teams the roof was stopped and redone before sundown. All from the grace and goodwill of people that stepped up to do the right thing.

For Russel to draw a staking-out conclusion from a white man doing landscaping is a stretch that draws close to paranoia, but it has a reason. I thought perhaps the neighbour was using the abandoned house lot as a place to do "drug deals". There was a lot of privacy with all of the bushes there to hide their dealing business behind. Nobody would see them from the road, especially at night.

I used to cut vacant weed lots in my city neighborhood.
Lot behind my house was getting really tall and neighbor lady was always complaining how the city should be doing it, the city should be doing it.
I finally tackled it and cut it and she got mad as hell because I did it when the city should have done it.
Another older lady neighbor ( bad neighborhood ) I cut the lot next to her after they tore the house down.
