  • This is how it all started. This radio is in amazing condition. The bakelite face and dials are in like new condition. The wood has been re finished. It still contains all the original parts.

Great video. My uncle built a radio in the 1920's (when he was a teenager) so my grandparents were the first on their block to have a radio.

Thank You! Yes, it was $125.00 back in 1925. That was BIG bucks back then and not too many people could afford a radio. That $125 is without 5 tubes and without a horn speaker! Talk about expensive!!

So back in 1925 the vast majority had no home radio sets of their own, not counting Xtal Sets and One Tubers

I love it when I see or get a hold of a working radio that has never been restored. The inside of your FADA looks great. Show more sets.

Nice! I haven't used any of my battery sets in a long time. I think the last time, I actually used batteries!

@gregoryagogo Sorry for the long overdue reply, no, the radio is more than strong enough to power the horn speaker. That is the power supply I made for my 1920's radios. It produces many of the needed voltages for all of my radios.

Amazing find!! It seems it came from 1995 not 1925!! How could it be in such good condition!! They must have loved this radio. I am sure you will as well. Nice eliminator and speaker as well. Its funny how fast the set came on because you elim was already on..hehe!! I am sure no-one today will catch that! or at least very few. Thx and be careful some museum does not come looking fr this!! haha

Actually, the 301A or 01A tubes work very quickly. They will start working in about one second.

I assume that's because those tubes have directly-heated cathodes? That is the filament in each tube is the cathode, and not just a heater as in newer tubes.

Beautiful machine! I can just visualize seeing it at someone's house in 1925. That was the top technology entertainment item around, and I'm sure everyone in the neighbor hood wanted to see it! Would you know what it sold for in 1925? -- Atco

Those internal components are in too good of condition to not have been restored and/or parts replaced

What kind of battery(ies) does that radio use.?

So, I guess the horn speaker needs it's own amp?

I received a FADA radio very similar to the large one you got there from a neighbor who past away at 98 years of age, he said it was in his family since he was a boy. I am wondering if you have any suggestions as to where I can have it apprasise or get more info on it, I have google it and to may surprise dont get much on the wood models.

Do you have a 'Neutralette" Radio Set?
