That is so cool to see a 1948 TV working. I remember watching one simular to this when I was about four years old. Dad bought a magnifying glass for it. Thanks for posting!

Become the big hit of the neighborhood - invite everyone to your place to watch the Super Bowl on that TV.

The only thing I remember about the performance of the TV set is that the room was dark. I'm sure your right about the magnifying glass because is seems to me now, all of a sudden we had a new TV with a bigger screen. As you know when you replace the caps, the performance should improve. What a neat project.

@AllAmericanFiveRadio That is really cool that you can remember something like that from so young in your life. Yes, they did have aftermarket magnifying glasses for it, although I doubt it helped very much! I'm amazed how simple this set is. Do you recall if these ever produced very much brightness? This set has seen work by whomever owned it before, so I didn't do very much to it to make it work. When I restore it I will finish re capping it and testing the tubes and resistors.

@rich6955 I got this set on ebay and yup, it's an old Twilight Zone show. I display my collection in several areas of my house. I gotta keep it nice and neat so my wife wont mind. Gotta keep the wife happy you know!

Now that analog no longer broadcasts I doubt antique tvs work today unless connected to cable.

You could possibly (in theory) connect a VCR and hide it in a cabinet or something, or DVD player
