This is the exact same model my grandfather had on the second floor landing of our two flat in Chicago. It sat there from early 1960s until 1991 when we sold off the house. The unmistakable on/off switch and wood fretwork gave it away! Congrats on get this one working again. Now I know what it was. My brother still has it in storage so who knows if I can con him into me finally restoring it.
Thank You All American Five Radio! I knew you would like this one! I wish you could hear it in person, you turn up the volume and you can really reel the bass in it! It exceeded my expectations.
Fresno Ca. Today I just picked up the most beautiful RCA Victor console radio with phonograph on top. I will fix it up and sell it. Someone who ever gets this will be one lucky person. I'd keep it but I don't collect RCA.
Hey Gregory! Well it does have a phono input, so I can hook up my XM radio and listen to the 40's on it, or hook up my computer to it and stream some 30's music into it. This radio sounds amazing in person!!
Great job! Nice radio. Perhaps someday I'll restore my late granddad's American Bosch with a 15" speaker from the 30's. I have original manual for it and schematics, but it still plays so I hate to disturb it, but seeing how you re-stuffed the condensers makes me want to learn how to restore it to it's former glory.
What do you charge for this kind of work?! I have two machines... 1st one I'm interested in having resoted (cabinet is pretty good, it's the works) is a Philco Model 112 Lowboy. 2nd one is a Philco Model 42-1008 (this one had work done to it, and is just missing tubes and a speaker and the turntable does not work and missing mirror part in the stylus).
Well, I've gotten pretty busy this year, I also restore motorcycles, and ride a lot, and I have kids and a wife, so as you can tell, I'm pretty busy. I'm hesitant to take on work for other people because sometimes it can get time intensive if the chassis has been molested in the past, thus causing a lot of extra work and $. Are you in CA?
I have a very similar model and it still contains it's original tubes and dial. It turn on but isn't picking up any stations. I'm interested in finding a new home for it. One that will restore it and keep it as a radio. Any suggestions on places/people collecting and restoring?
I have afada K a44 and I was interested in getting some information and possibly how much it was worth my father and I love the TH-cam channel. Thank you
Hey I recently picked up a beautiful old FADA tube radio that looks VERY similar to this, but isn't the same one. I can't find any photos that match, would you be interested in helping me identify it? I'd appreciate the help!
Beautiful, glad to see another vintage radio with the tubes glowing and doing what it was built to do

Nice restoration. You got lucky, finding a cabinet in such beautiful condition, too. Really well done.
WOW!! That is beautiful!! Very nice work!!
I like the illuminated dial and the gold painted chassis!

Never trust original capacitors. I always replace them on every old radio, even if it plays nicely.
Ok, thanks! Once I get started on it, I'll change them all.
You did a very nice clean job. Congrats!
I used to hi-jack my phono input on my philco, and then play tapes with my walkman through it!
Man that one is amazing.
Thank you! I really enjoy it.
No, I never let out the magic smoke out of my projects LOL
It be nice to turn it into a Bluetooth radio and play those great radio programs from the 30's up to 1962.
You and me both!
I understand... I'm in San Diego. Money's tight anyway, not even sure how much something like this would cost.

Any of your 'projects' ever catch fire?

Too bad you can't pick up the 1930s on that thing!
