    Did a 300 mile dirt ride on my bone stock Crf300l. Only mod I did the night before the ride was an acerbis tank and I was extremely glad I did. While everyone else was running out of gas I had plenty 🤙🏼

    Great timing for me on this video! I ordered one of these (in black) a couple weeks ago and plan to install it tomorrow (and check my valves while I'm in there).
    My thinking is similar to yours; I picked up a used 2014 CRF a couple months ago and have been working to turn it into a bit of a mini-adventure bike that can take me to those hard-to-reach places in the Appalachian mountains. The previous owner had done all of the stage 1 performance mods which gave it a bit more "oomph" but at the cost of fuel efficiency and I certainly don't want to have to stop every hour or two for a fill-up! Now I've got pannier racks, drybags, a rally-style windscreen, and I think the Acerbis will be the last step to having the kind of bike I wanted (at least until I can get my hands on a Tenere 700 here in the States!).
    Cheers!

      Dont miss the automatic oiler;)
      What you did , I did to just recently -just the tank is still missing. Because I am still hesitant due to the fitting. What (was your experience with fitting the acerbis?
      PS: What do you mean with "stage1" other sprockets and ICU?

    • @GalamatiasOne
      @GalamatiasOne 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@noidea2655 I had no trouble fitting the Acerbis at all! If anything, I had to fiddle with the body plastics a little to make them look nice, but the tank itself went on with no problem (just follow the instructions).
      "Stage 1" generally just refers to the upgraded exhaust and EFI controller

    I mounted a 3L long haul portable jerry can upright on the side of the rear rack opposite to the exhaust total cost £23 (in 2021). I'm now getting 130+ miles from the original tank the psychological difference regarding range anxiety is immense. I've only topped up from it once. Malcolm

    • @lightweightadv
      @lightweightadv  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Malcolm, that's a great option too and cost effective, I think you hit the nail on the head there. The main thing is knowing you have it available isn't it, even if you don't use it, that's usually the way with life though isn't it 😂

    I have recently fitted the Acerbis tank to my 2fiddy as well, (2015 bike and the fit was shockingly bad !) and have a theory that once your down to around 8ltrs, the weight actually sits lower on the bike than with the standard tank, because of the width of the Acerbis ?? Oh and just listened to the TAMP podcast ... brilliant 👍

    • @lightweightadv
      @lightweightadv  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Fenner-g, yeah I didn't have the same issues with the fit to be honest but I know, like you, some people have 🤷🏻‍♂️ I hadn't thought about the weight sitting lower but you could well be right there, it would make sense.

    I love mine. I don't get quite as good as mileage out of my 2015 crf 250l though. Mostly because of the EJK and Q4 exhaust. But I agree totally ,looks good. Handles slightly better as well

    i want to have one, but i read lot of ppl complain about the trouble they get to install it, and that dont fit well etc,, and i dont want bend, cut plastic or anything,, .. and like i see in your video you did this kind of thing, so,, apparently the IMS fit better and you can put back your key locker on it,.,

    • @lightweightadv
      @lightweightadv  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Peter, yeah I think they're a good investment. I didnt weigh the tank tbh but I don't think there is much between them dry, obviously when full there will be, somewhere in the region of 4-5 kg heavier with the bigger tank I think.

    HI nice video I had a look as I am still pondering the option even tho is not even an option yet as the acerbic one for the CRF300L will be out only in June but to be honest I am not 100%sold my other option would be the Giant loop armadillo 7.5 laters bag sure is a bag so you have the "pain" to fill it up and put it in the tank that's true BUT I tought how many time do I need that extra fuel not a lot of time really would be only for my longer trips and even then I can only fill when I really need and not even always fill it up full when is empty I weights 500 gram and store away in a way that you don-t even think you have it and last but not least it costs 130 quid so I am really not sure ...

    • @lightweightadv
      @lightweightadv  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks Silvio, yeah there certainly are a few different options out there now. I quite like the idea of a fold away fuel bag to be honest, before I for this tank I used to carry 2 x 1ltr Jerry cans but didn't really like the idea of having them just stowed on the bike so ended up topping up my main tank as soon as it got low enough to decant them. I think I would do the same with the bag but it would have the benefit of stowing smaller. At this price point though the Rotax set up starts to become an option (which is securely fixed with very minimal risk of leaking) but there's even the rear camel tank option too which is basically an extension/reserve tank connected to your main tank.
      There really are plenty of options to choose from, for me though it mainly came down to ease of use and although more money the larger tank just ticked more boxes for me. Were all different though u suppose eh, I'm sure you'll find what works for you 👍 ride safe buddy

    The added range for me is important. 50kms to get to the TET then a day riding and home again without thinking where fuel is available.
    I would get the version which yses the original fuel cap if i did it again.
    The Acerbis cap is cr@p.

    • @lightweightadv
      @lightweightadv  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, we do the same, less stops just makes life better.
      I've not had enough time to form an opinion on the fuel cap yet but so far it seems ok. Ride safe buddy

  • @usbsol
    @usbsol 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I guess it depends on how you do your rides.
    If I am adventuring, for me that means brining my enduristan blizzard bags and one (thinking of upgrading to two) 1.5L primus bottles (enduristan makes a nice flask holder) and they sit way low.
    If I am just out and about for a days ride though I wont venture far from a gasstation and so will not need extra fuel capacity.
    Two questions; are you also running the michelin trackers?
    And you have some tools outside the fenderbag it seems... that does not drive you insane? 😉
    Thanks for the content.

    • @lightweightadv
      @lightweightadv  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey usbsol, yeah it certainly does depend on what you want to achieve/do I suppose, and I agree, the enduristan gear is quality stuff.
      Yes I am on trackers and have a new set to fit before we head off on our next trip in a few weeks, I think they're great tyres.
      And yes I do have some bits strapped to the outside of my fender pack, it's a bike pump that doesn't fit in the bag. It doesn't bother me in the slightest tbh as I like the rugged (not pretty and neat) look but I do know that I would drive some people crackers 😂

    was thinking about upgrading me tank on the '19 Rally... 300$+ for 3 extra liters... doesn't seem worth it to me..
    then looked at 6l camel tank for the rear....300$ for 6 extra liters... and if you're just commuting you don't have to fill it.. not alot of extra weight back there...
    or 100$ for an almost 4l rotopak I can strap to the bike if iam going on a trip I may need it... that seems to be what I am thinking now....
    if I was to do a RTW or a long trip I'd probably get both the larger tank and camel tank... but for my riding, it doesn't seem worth it...

    • @lightweightadv
      @lightweightadv  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah there certainly are plenty of options on the market and I went through the same questions myself. The price put me off for quite a while but then I got this one cheap (ish) and it made sense. Now it's fitted I am super happy with it, really neat and easy. Hope you find the set up that works for you buddy 👍

  • @dnx789
    @dnx789 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Is it worth it? I guess it depends , doesn't have a locking cap and isn't a true fit so i'd say not for my needs, just can up on the back for longer adventures. Always a fuel stop on my rides and an excuse for a coffee break every hour.

    • @lightweightadv
      @lightweightadv  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Dank, yeah that's true it really does depend on your needs doesn't it. You're right, when just pootling around on trails it's not so much of a worry, the thing is we are wanting to head out further afield on longer adventures and it just makes that side of things a little easier in my opinion, maybe I'm just getting lazy 😂. This is the thing I love about adventure motorcyclists is we all have a diffent way of getting to the adventure, both figuratively and literally 👍 happy trails buddy

    Does the fuel guage still work?

    • @lightweightadv
      @lightweightadv  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi rule, yes it does although it isn’t as accurate as it was, it tends to stay at full for a fair bit and then once it’s used up about a third of the tank starts to go down as normal. It’s not really a problem though because with the clear one you can visibly see exactly how much fuel is in the tank, I love it 👍

    Sorry this maybe off topic really but how come you have gone back to the standard exhaust??

    • @lightweightadv
      @lightweightadv  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hey Ian, the simple answer is that as much as I lived the sound of the aftermarket exhaust it was a bit louder than I wanted and became a little annoying for me on our longer trips. Although heavier, the original is more pleasant on my ears 😂

    • @iangriffiths9930
      @iangriffiths9930 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Agreed, I loved the sound of that exhaust you had but I prefer the standard exhaust for green lanes. Looking at some of latest reviews are you looking to sell the 250s and move to a bigger bike??

    • @lightweightadv
      @lightweightadv  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah it did sounds nice, but like you say quieter is nicer for the country lanes.
      No we aren't looking at changing our bikes out any time soon, if anything there only just getting to where we want them to be, but it doesn't hurt to see what's out and about and there are certainly people who follow the channel that may be interested, plus who wouldn't want to play on new bikes eh 😂

    • @iangriffiths9930
      @iangriffiths9930 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Really happy that you are sticking with the 250s as I’ve really enjoyed watching your journey. I bought my crf about the same as you did but I don’t really use mine for travel more for green lanes and the back roads of North Wales. Still it’s nice to see how versatile these bikes are.
