    In my opinion the CRF250L is one of the best routes into green laning and whilst the CRF300L is better on paper, when you are on the green lanes the two are so close in terms of capability that the main difference is actually the rider and not the bike.

    Great video, this is true about buying a used 250 with extra for mods- The value is there. Plus it is a Honda so more than likely there will be no mechanical issues to worry over.

      There are some bargain 250s coming on the market now too 😎

    I've recently bought a CRF. I would prefer the 300, the extra HP, warranty, and peace of mind would be a great bonus. However as a new green laner I know there will be knocks and scraps to the bike, and as you say there are still a lot of mods to do (bash plate, frame protectors, rack, suspension?), so it made sense to me to buy a cheaper 250 and spend the saved money on worthwhile extras.
    I may upgrade in the future to a 300, but buying a 250 is a great way to start and I doubt I'll lose any money in depreciation. I'm all for free biking :)

      You'll love the 250 Dave. The warranty would be welcomed, but they're very robust little bikes, so I don't think you'll miss it. The extra HP doesn't make too much odds when you're on the lanes 👌🏻

    • @davebethell1
      @davebethell1 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@lightweightadv yeah, I've heard the 250's are robust, so figured the warranty wouldn't really be needed. Personally I think a 250 seems a bargain, certainly a lot of bike for the money and fun to ride.

      If you already own a 250 I’m not 100% convinced it’s worth paying what £5500 just to get the small increase? I have ridden the 300 and no doubt it is better but when it comes down to it I think for me anyway it wasn’t worth the extra in cost

    I seriously considered a CRF300L and would have bought one, but none were to be had here. I'm sure I would have loved it. I was able to score a like new 2016 CRF250L with 81 miles on the clock and have found that its capabilities exceed my skills. Very happy as a result. As a funny sidenote, I was also able to get a 1973 (50 years old) Honda CT90 Trail with dual range tranny, and less than 1000 miles. Not as fast as you, but there is nowhere you can go that it will not go past. (Except maybe deep sand - much easier to extract from mud). Aint life great?

    • @jgordoncooper7112
      @jgordoncooper7112 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Seriously, if you see a CT90 -110 in good shape at a decent price, grab it. I think mine spent most of its life on the back of a motorhome. When you have one of those days where all you want to do is laugh, the CT will make you happy. You can wear a disguise, so people won't recognize you, and they are up for an adventure if you are.

    Great vid as usual! The 300 is undoubtedly a great bike but over the 250 it has a lot of nice to haves but it’s not substantially more capable. I wouldn’t go from my 250 Rally to the 300, but I’d happily swap out my gearing and crank assembly for the 300s.

    • @lightweightadv
      @lightweightadv  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Completely agree. If you don't have a CRF at the moment, it's a question of cost really. But if you have a 250, we'll its a much harder thing to call 🤷🏻‍♂️

    I have bought the CRF 250L, three mounths ago, used, just 1500kms, almost new, with handguards and USB conection, 4500€, the 300 model costs 1500€ + bike registration more, I do not regret it, in addition there are no units of the 300 model and with what I have saved I can greatly improve the 250, i don find big diferences between them.

    As usual a well balanced video, on the lanes50cc either way from the 250 makes no difference. But the rehearing of 6th does make the 300 easier for the road.

    I have a 250 and often ride 7k miles a year, don't need to go any faster on the sort of roads i ride , rarely have it at full pin,
    The 300 has an overstroked 250 engine and gets very hot , uses more fuel and sounds knocky.
    sticking to a 250 pre abs with upgraded supension , i would advise spending 3k less and get a used 250.
