Helpful note to anyone who is shopping a new tank for their CRF250L: I was in contact with Acerbis last week (big shout out to Adam at Acerbis, very professional and helpful) and regarding fitment issues on pre 2016 CRFs, I am told Acerbis has addresses and corrected the problem. It is important to specify the model year of your CRF250L to get the correct tank.

Nice! I wasn't sure which brand to go with but it seems clear IMS is the way to go! I was only getting 100kms per tank on my 2007 KTM 450 EXC and after hitting the reserve one too many times, I had to pick up an oversized tank.
It is an upgrade from the standard one, but still plastic like a cheap locking cap you would get for a car at a Walmart. The point I'm making about the OEM cap option from IMS is... it is OEM and works more perfecter LOL. Easier to put on, take off, and the lock matches the ignition so I don't have to mess with another key.
I am also a bigger is better guy, however fuel stops are as good as the worst range in the riding group... so I generally already have the best range between the bigger tank and best fuel mileage. If riding alone (which I generally don't recommend with adventure riding) it would benefit to have bigger.
I just did the install this past weekend. Put just enough gas to get to a gas station 1 mile from my house. When I filled up it only put 3 gallons in. There is no way I put .5 a gallon in the tank before hand. How much gas do you put in when you fill up? Thanks
Great video - thank you for putting it together! Quick question about the IMS tank with the OEM cap - how does it breathe? Does this tank have some sort of one way valve in the metal part at the top that allows the air to get in and prevents fuel from spilling? As fair as I can tell, the OEM cap creates an air-tight seal, which is different to standard plastic IMS cap which have a breather hole in the centre. I believe the Honda OEM tank has a breather pipe inside the tank, which comes near the fuel pump mount. This way, even with an air-tight fuel cap, the air is able to get inside the tank. I'm curious how the IMS resolved this? All the best, Shem
That is a good question, that would best be answered by IMS. I don't know how a stock tank breathes... but with using the same top and bottom connections, my guess would be that it breathes like the stock one does.

Does the fuel gauge not work with larger tank? You mentioned being able to see your fuel, just wondering if the fuel gauge doesn't work with larger tank
Go to the IMS Products web site... they don't make the OEM option for all models or years, so you will have to look at the specific model and year. Mine is a 2019 Honda CRF250L

I really want a bigger tank for my '13 Honda CRF 250L and would get the IMS tank but I can't find it anywhere online with the option for the OEM tank cap. Where did you buy yours? Maybe it's not an option for a '13. Thanks!
I got mine directly from IMS. Mine is a 2019, so not sure on what other years they do it. I noticed that they don't offer the option on all of their tanks.
How is the clearance towards the Radiator overflow hose? I've got some issue there with my Acerbis on my 2019 model. Apparently the angle of the nozzle was changed in 2017.
@@GuybrushT91 If you look closely at the photo comparison of the tanks you will see that the IMS is shaped to match the body parts that mount and have two mount screws on both sides... it is hard to describe how much different the shape is and how different the mounting was.

You only need a strip of clear to check fuel levels. The rest can be spray painted whatever color you want.

I just bought Acerbis lockable cap and it is fantastic. It fit perfectly.

Yes, it works. It hows from 1/4 to empty pretty fast - the shape of the tank may be why.

Do these tanks not allow you to use your existing fuel gauge in some way?
The OEM fuel gauge still works.

That IMS gascap is fugly.
