Thank you for the demo. My machine wouldn't drain. I opened up the coin trap and it was full of lint. Running another wash this time to see if it drains properly
@@mikehawk5247 yeah its amazing how much stuff gets down there. Thanks for watching and hopefully that has fixed it and there isn't something caught in the pump.
We have done this. What happens is when it's time to skin it just sits but when we drain that bottom part as you've shown, it will spin and drain just fine.
Thanks for your help! I discovered that there’s a coin stuck on the far side of the filter hole. Too big to clear out through the hole. I’m guessing I’ll need to take the barrel out or something? Is there another way to access that catcher without major disassembly?
Hey we have one that’s newer and touch screen/smart washer I think it’s LG but we don’t have the stand either and I’ve been trying to learn to do it and not sure how any pan would fit under it. Believe Best Buy installed it, bought it on a whim quickly to replace older one so didn’t know about the stand being purchased in addition thought it came with. And ugh ours is so dirty. My hair is so long so it gets all in the rubber flap part.
Yes a lot of lg's that hose is plugged, it's for draining the machine before getting into the pump. There isn't a great way to unplug it besides trying to pick out whatever is in there without causing a hole in the line, or taking the hose right off of the pump to clean it out but that requires you to take apart the machine.
Mimi, were you able to clean the black drain hose or did you have to replace it? We have the same problem with packed sand in the hose and I'm looking for ideas other than replacing. Thanks, and thank you Greg for the excellent video.
@@lukegehring, we tried to unplug the hose with a small bottle brush, then a makeshift "drill" with a coat hanger.(being extremely careful not to put a hole in it, like Greg said. It worked for a while, but my husband ended up taking it apart. Not pleased at all with the machine. Best of luck to you.
Hi! Thanks for this video. My LG4500 is under 2 years old and I keep it very clean - I run the tub clean cycle, keep the door open btwn loads, check the gasket, etc. But still, it starts to emit a mildew smell after about a week's worth of laundry. So now, each week I do this exact process, drain the tub, check the trap, and that solves the problem. My question is why do I need to do it so often? Is there a further drain issue I should be looking into? Thx!
You shouldn't have to do it that often at all, the problem can be so many things, from the kind of soap used, to the hardness of the water, what your washing. There is deodorizer that I've seen in stores you can get for a front load washer, maybe try one of those.
@@Thomasappliance I’m so grateful for your video! Made a small mess but my son and I cleaned out the filter and the areas inside. Back to working condition. Thanks 🙏
I have found a lot of water sitting in the gasket ring after a load is finished. I tried to drain the little black hose, but nothing came out. I was able to clean out the filter. There was a lot of junk in there. Do you have any advice on how to drain the gasket ring (perhaps unplug the little drainage hole in the gasket) and any advice on how to unplug the little black hose (I’m assuming it’s plugged with sand or something and therefore not draining). Finally, is the water sitting in the gasket ring and the fact that the little black hose isn’t draining a connected problem? Is one issue causing the other?
Thanks for watching maccarone, the front door boot is what I think your talking about, there should be some drainage holes that let the water run back into the outer tub, they can plug up with hair and stuff. The easiest way I've found is to push the stuff through out of the holes towards the inside, being very careful not to poke a hole in the boot. The drainage tubes are always plugged, the only way to fix that is to pull out the drain pump and detach the hose from the drain pump and clean it out.
Any other ideas why the machine wouldn't drain? I have the exact same machine, i clean it frequently. I've noticed quite a bit of sediment from the drain hose. Any idea how one would clean it?
The drain hose that is attached to the side of the d4ain pump to get the water out before taking the filter our is always plugged on these machines, and can not be taken out easily. The drain hose going to the wall should never plug up.
Thank you for the reply. It would be the hose draining out the water in the back. I put it so it drains into my laundry sink so I can see if it drains or not. It might be the water pump. I guess after 5 years maybe it's deciding to quit. It's also extremely loud when extracting!
I would always suggest unplugging the machine before doing any work on it, nothing needs to be disconnected, but there will be water in the drain pump area so get ready with towels for that. Thanks for watching Donna Liddell.
Hi I have the LG WM3998HBA. It’s a washer/ dryer combo. I’ve had this machine a few weeks and I have noticed that the day after I do a load there’s a little puddle of water accumulated in the drum. It is always dry when it finishes the dry cycle. I let out all the water from the tube in the bottom after I use it as I want to maintain it as dry as possible. Can you tell me why this happens and how can I stop it. Thanks!
If there is water in the machine between cycles, and there was none in there after the last load was done the watervalve on the machine isn't closing properly, you will need to change the water valve. Thanks for watching Lissette Marrero.
Question--I have an LG washer similar to the one in the video. About once every 2 weeks, I find my clothes sitting in about 2-3 inches of water at the end of the cycle. I have to drain the tub as you did in the video. I've verified the filter is clear. No error codes when I do the Smart Diagnosis. Any ideas on why it doesn't drain periodically? I know I need to sanitize the tub as I have some rotten egg smell coming from the drained water. I just ran a load and verified it does drain water at a fast rate into the sink after the wash cycle.
@@Thomasappliance I WROTE TO U UP HIGHER, BUT MY LG FRONT LOADER ALL THE SUDDEN GAVE THE OE CODE, AND SO I DRAINED IT WITH THE LITTLE HOSE, TOOK OUT THE FILTER, IT WAS CLEAN, THEN I CHECKED THE DRAIN HOSE THAT GOES TO THE WALL,,, IT WAS CLOGGED AS FAR AS I CAN TELL, ANYWAYS IT MAKES A NOISE WHEN IT SHOULD BE DRAINING AND SPINNING, OH MERCY
Hello Greg, Thanks for the video. I notice on my LG front load washer that there is water that collects on the bottom of the inside gasket. So... when you open the door and look at the rubber gasket ring there is a little drain hole in the bottom middle. A Bit of water collects there after a wash cycle. Is this normal? Does this drain hole need to be cleaned periodically? Thanks !
@@Thomasappliance Thanks for your reply Greg. Is it normal for a bit of water to settle in the boot? Also, If water is sitting in the boot, what steps do you take in order to allow this to drain properly?
Dave Cimo, there is usually a little water still in the boot after a wash, if you really dont like it in there you can wipe it out with a towel after a load, or the manufacturer recommends leaving the door open between cycles and the water should evaporate.
Heya Greg, just got an LG Model #WM4000HBA and ran my first load, out of curiosity I drained it from the little black drainage hose in the front and was a bit surprised to see roughly a pint of water come out. Is that a normal amount for an average load? Is it required to drain it after every load or every 2-3 loads? Wondering how big the reservoir is in there and just how often it needs to be drained. If I don't stay on top of it, I imagine I will get an OE error eventually. Thanks in advance!
The machine will fill according to the weight of the clothes in the tub, so yes that could be a normal amount. The only time you have to drain it from the black hose is when you are cleaning the system out. At first I would say check the filter area after 3 months and see if anything comes out. If not bump it to every 6 months, every household will be different, you can also check the manual and use the recommended time frame. Thanks for watching K Hbrn!!
@@Thomasappliance Awesome, thanks again. Just to be certain, it will just hold about that much water in it until you clean the filter out and drain it. Not a load by load draining that needs to be done.
yeah the water that is in there is only left in there to keep the seals inside the drain pump from drying out and cracking, I'm sure it also blocks gasses possibly from coming back into the machine much like a "p" trap on your sink. So yes the little black hose at the bottom front of the machine is just used for cleanouts.
@@Thomasappliance When draining from front black house is it normal for water to smell really bad and before draining and after some.loads whole room has awful odor scent
