I was there freezing to see him do it in 1994! My brother and I got his autograph a few years earlier in 1986. This was after KC beat Pittsburgh on the road that year to make the playoffs for the first time in forever. That win courtesy of a Nick Lowery FG earlier in the game. Just outa high school my brother and I were excited that KC beat Pittsburgh and finally had a playoff team - so we went down and bought season tickets for the following year. Season tickets were much cheaper back then but being in college I still had to scrape up every dime I could get my hands on. I think my older brother helped me pay for some of it if I recall. We met your Uncle leaving the stadium (after practice) getting ready for KC’s playoff game that week in New York. There was really no one around - but us and Nick. You could tell he was in a hurry when we spotted him walking quickly… but he stopped right away when we asked him please sign an autograph. He was so kind and courteous to take the time and chat with us for a few minutes and sign an autograph. I been a season ticket holder now for 32 years and counting. Best PK in KC history and a genuine nice man/class act. God’s best to you and your family.

What a great run it was. I have wondered ever since what if Joe hadn't been concussed in Buffalo. I was 17 at the time and let me tell you this Pittsburgh game....it was COLD that day!

    • @erichaynes7502
      @erichaynes7502 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

@@georgecostanza12 I don't know if you remember this but a few weeks earlier in game 15 KC went to Minnesota with a chance to snag the 2nd seed(instead of the 3rd seed they ended up with). KC had already secured the division title but we really needed that 2nd seed to avoid going to Buffalo, we could easily beat them at Arrowhead but no way at Buffalo. So, what did Marty and his staff do? Yep, he didn't even have the Chiefs try to win at Minnesota..he pulled out a bunch of players and you could see him and the players on the sidelines smiling and congratulating each other and this was during a rout by the Vikings! If Marty would have tried and successfully won that game we would have had the 2nd seed, Bills the 3rd seed, Hou 1st seed. KC would have a BYE so this Steelers game wouldn't have taken place. KC would have hosted Bills for the Div round and won then play the winner of the Raiders AT Hou game. In other words we would have had a much, much better chance at going to the Super bowl. I lost a lot of faith in Marty the day he didn't try to win at Minnesota.

2ND HALF & OT TIMESTAMPS ( 1st half TIMESTAMPS are in comments by a Steeler fan who understandably had to “Tap Out” on rewatching 2nd half )
1:19:08 Rod Woodson 41 yd KO return to start 2nd half
1:22:10 Dan Dierdorf explains that Bill Cowher is ultra conservative & how this will lead to plenty of blown close games, especially in the playoffs. However it’s also explained that he learned all of his conservative habits from Marty Schottenheimer & so this particular game could be blown by either coach in equally spectacular fashion.
1:26:07 Neil O’Donnell is finally sacked and stripped by Neil Smith while doing a classic “Neil O’Donnell Impression” & holding onto the ball for 8 seconds in the pocket.
1:33:00 Neil O’Donnell performs TEXTBOOK instance of Intentional Grounding. Chases after Ref in a shocked stupor when subsequently penalized for Intentional Grounding.
1:43:20 Nick Lowery 24 YD FG GOOD
Current Score PITT 17 KC 10
    1:47:58 END OF 3RD QUARTER
1:53:40 Montana to Willie Davis for 22 yards
1:54:26 Freddy Jones approx 15 YDS on an END AROUND play. Takes a pretty good hit from Rod Woodson at end of play.
1:57:45 Marcus Allen 2 yard TD Run
Current Score KC 17 PITT 17
2:00:53 Dwight Stone 26 YD Catch & Run while balancing to not step out of bounds.
2:05:30 Eric Green 22 YD Touchdown Catch. Green mocks the Chiefs fans & their ridiculous Tomahawk Chop in celebration of his TD catch.
Current Score PITT 24 KC 17
2:07:30 - Future Tag Team Partner of Hollywood Hulk Hogan, Kevin Greene drags down Marcus Allen for a 5 yard loss on 1st and 10. Marcus Allen was still good friends with OJ Simpson at the time of this taping.
2:08:11 - Bill Cowher has his team up by a TOUCHDOWN and has forced KC into a 3rd down & 15 with only 3 minutes to go while pinned deep into their own territory. Things are looking pretty good for Bill C. Currently
2:08:39 Joe Montana SACKED by Gerald Williams forcing 4th and very long. The Punt team comes onto the field and the Steelers are home free!!
2:13:20 PITT goes 3 and OUT - take very little time off clock but do cause KC to burn 2/3 timeouts. The drive consisted of a 4 yd loss run , 4 yard run gain , and 1 incomplete pass. Ultra Conservative approach that both head coaches would be proud to call their own.
2:14:00 Mark Royal (who I thought looked like Louie Aguilar ) has punt BLOCKED by one of the CASH twins ... it then floats into waiting hands of Freddy Jones who takes it all the way down to the PITT 9 yard line.
2:14:18 Bill Cowher chews out Mark Royal on Sideline while simultaneously chewing the hell out of his gum.
2:17:03 Marty Schottenheimer shows he won’t be “out choked” by his pupil Cowher by calling for a HB DRAW on 3rd & Goal from the 8 YD line. It goes nowhere.
2:18:48 - JOE MONTANA audibles out of the Schottenheimer called FB TRAP play and instead throws an 8 yd touchdown pass to Tim Barnett on 4th & Goal w/ under 2 minutes remaining.
2:23:42 - Justin Strzelczyk cheap shots Kevin Ross on the sideline after a play, injuring him. The Refs did not catch this & a few seconds later Strzelczyk is shown lining up looking quite pleased with himself.
In 2004 Strzelczyk would die while evading police in a high speed chase & hitting a Tank Truck at 90 mph.
2:24:35 PITT goes a very quick 3 and out leaving KC some time to work with.
2:28:38 The Refs are fooled again , this time by Todd McNair who picked up a ball off the ground as if he had caught it and moves the ball into FG position and out of bounds to stop the clock in the waning seconds of the game.
2:29:18 - GOD intercedes as instant replay is not active in 1993 and causes Nick Lowery to miss the potential game winning 43 yard FG.
    2:30:53 End of Regulation
2:35:33 Joe Montana takes a pretty good hit on a 3rd and 5 scramble that came up just short.
2:43:54 Deon Figures lays a big hit on JJ Birden , but Birden holds onto the ball for a 7 YD gain.
2:45:48 Keith Cash for a “Big Money Play” (courtesy Al Michaels) of a 20 yard catch and run putting KC close to FG range.
2:49:49 Game Winning FG by Nick Lowery. Bill Cowher beats Marty Schottenheimer at his own game of snatching defeat from the Jaws of Victory.

All those Tomlin bashers should take a look at Cowher's playoff losses like these....up 7 with 3 minutes to go WITH the ball at the 50 yard line....add this to the previous year's Home playoff loss to Buffalo 24-3 and his 1-4 HOME AFC Championship record (two of those losses to double digit underdogs Chargers '94 and Pats '01). Even the great HOF Cowher had his issues in big games that they should have won. Just saying......I think they're both great coaches but Tomlin NEVER gets the benefit of the doubt by Steelers fans the way Cowher does when it comes to praise. Maybe time will alter that perception.

    • @apishion
      @apishion 3 ปีที่แล้ว

Cowher rarely had the kind of players that Tomlin had and still has. For instance: Brister, O'Donnell, Tomczak, Maddox, and Kordell is what Cowher had to work with, whereas Tomlin has had Roethlisberger his entire tenure. Tomlin has squandered the careers of some exceptional talent over his clumsy coaching career.

Watch the typical Steeler cheap shots in this game. Typical Bill Cowher/Mike Tomlin team.

I thought chiefs always played on grass.

@@willhopson1277 Turf has gotten a lot better with the move from AstroTurf to FieldTurf.
Obviously, some teams still have to use artificial turf. The Vikings, Lions, and Saints play home games strictly indoors. My Colts, the Atlanta Falcons, the Houston Texans, and the Dallas Cowboys have stadiums with retractable roofs, and they all use artificial turf as well. The new SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles will have a retractable roof and artificial turf as well.
They will close the roof at Lucas Oil Stadium on a beautiful day in September if there is even the slightest threat of rain...or even if management just wants to create as much crowd noise as possible for a critical game. It's not just from the '80s...the Colts were playing on AstroTurf until 2005 before switching to FieldTurf for the last few seasons of the RCA Dome.
I don't know so much about NRG Stadium or AT&T Stadium, but Lucas Oil Stadium gets a lot of uses for conventions that need the hard concrete floor, so they have to pull up the turf fairly regularly. Same for the RCA Dome that came before it. I believe the same is true for Mercedes-Benz Stadium and the Georgia Dome before it because they were attached to the Georgia World Congress Center. Even though Rogers Centre in Toronto has a retractable roof, they still use artificial turf for baseball despite the fans clamoring for natural grass. NRG Stadium actually had natural grass when it opened in 2002, but they finally replaced it with artificial turf mid-season in 2015 after lots of injuries piled up for the home and visiting teams, and the field looked discolored.
The Arizona Cardinals have a retractable roof stadium as well, but they get to play on natural grass because their field can be completely rolled out of the stadium. Same for Las Vegas.
As for outdoor teams, the Patriots switched from grass to FieldTurf because the grass turned to mud in the winter, and they didn't want guys like Tom Brady getting hurt from that. The Bills, Bengals, Seahawks, Giants, and Jets still use artificial turf.

@@danieldougan269 the Patriots had AstroTurf until 1991 or 92, then real grass thru the end of foxboro stadium and the first several years of Gillette, the mud was actually an advantage because it helped slow down AstroTurf receiving corps like the Colts, who could not win in Foxboro. However after losing to the Jets in the mud in 2006, following a game played the day before by Kraft’s new soccer team, FieldTurf was installed during the middle of the season before the next home game. However I’ve always thought they gave something up by ditching grass.
